"His mind must have given out, stress can do that to a person. All we can do it wait until he gains some of his memories back, he's still in a fragile state."
Oikawa stared at the doctor who stood before his parents, the ones he could no longer remember, and looked at Oikawa sadly.
"T-that'll happen soon, right?" The man who Oikawa had woken up to, who had been identified as Iwaizumi Hajime, who stood close to Oikawa's bed, his hands curled into fists as he spoke, his voice weak and small.
The doctor shook his head. "I can't say when." He explained, holding up his clipboard, "the best thing we can do is wait for any sort of recognition, but for the time being, so he isn't flooded with things from his past life, he should transfer to a different school."
Oikawa's parents caught their breath, his mother was sobbing now, she had been for hours, and it broke Oikawa's heart.
She was special to him, he knew that.
"M-mom," he said after a few moments, watching as the brown-haired women looked up, her eyes red and raw from crying, and Oikawa smiled a little, his smile feeling fake, and he spoke.
"I-it's okay," he said, "i-if it'll help, then I'll go to a different school for the time being." He murmured, hearing Iwaizumi's breath stiffen.
"Y-you can't leave!" He yelled, effectively catching Oikawa's attention as he looked over to the shaking teen.
"I-Iwa-chan-" he started, gasping in pain as his head pounded and he fell forward, feeling his head pounding as the doctor rushed forward, and faintly recognized something, a memory, one that stung at his eyes and clutched his heart tightly.
"Iwa-chan! No fair!" A smaller version of himself was running after a smaller Iwaizumi who was laughing.
The two of them were in a large forest, one that smelled of the earth and felt crisp and alive under his bare feet as he ran, both of them giggling and laughing until they reached a large treehouse, Iwaizumi climbing up quickly, Oikawa following before tackling Iwaizumi into the treehouse, the two of them wrestling a little before they landed next to one another, their chests heaving as they breathed, their hands clinging to one another, both of them smiling as they caught their breath.
"Hey, Tooru." Iwaizumi said after a minutie, Oikawa hummed, looking over to the boy whose face flushed pink for a few seconds before he spoke.
"W-when we grow up, can I-"
"Tooru!"
Oikawa jolted up, shivering as cold sweat covered his body. He was slumped in Iwaizumi's arms, his body limp as he breathed hard, looking up to Iwaizumi who stared down at him, his eyes wide and worried.
"I... Iwa-chan..." Oikawa breathed, "t-that's what I called you.." He murmured, watching as Iwaizumi nodded a little as he tucked his head down to Oikawa's, letting their foreheads touch, and this time, Oikawa didn't pull away.
"Don't scare me like that, idiot." Iwaizumi whispered, his voice was choked up as he trembled, and Oikawa slowly reached up, touching his fingertips to Iwaizumi's face, smiling a little.
"S... Sorry, Iwa-chan." He murmured, his fingers meeting an achingly familiar face, his hand cupped his chin like it had done so many times in Oikawa's lost memory, and something in Oikawa sparked, and he let his eyes slip closed again, a spark in his mind occurred as the memory slowly fell into piece, a single slice of a much bigger puzzle.
"Thank you, Iwa-chan." He whispered, pulling back after a few moments, letting his head clear as he sat up a little more to look around.
The doctor was nearby, checking his vitals and his parents were at his other side, his mother grasping his hand tightly when she saw him move, her eyes watering with tears again as she kissed the back of his hand, crying softly.
"M...Mom," he said, pulling his hand back and holding hers tightly, smiling a little.
"I-if it's okay," he whispered, looking back to the sad looking Iwaizumi.
"Id like to choose my school. And I want Iwa-chan to come with me."
