"AND WHAT IF SMALL DE VRIES QUALIFIES AHEAD OF ME? DO I GET FIRED?" Alicia stressed as she rapidly pet Waffle, a usually calming action which was given him whiplash currently.

"He's not going to qualify ahead of you," Charlotte scoffed, throwing a pair of gloves at the driver, "He's been in the car less times than-"

"You forget who did hours of testing for Williams, newsflash it wasn't me!" Alicia reminded her personal trainer, "If he qualifies ahead of me, that's it for me. I can say bye-bye to my seat next year."

Charlotte raised her eyebrow, "You said we weren't focusing on that."

Alicia rolled her eyes, "Of course we are! I love racing, Charlotte. And now I've finally got a seat I can't imagine what it feels like to lose one. And Williams? I love it here."

"You're getting attached!" Charlotte sung to her friend as she looked for Waffle's treats.

"So! Williams is like..."

"Family." Charlotte finished the sentence for her, the driver almost went to disagree immediately but the word settled with Alicia.

A family.

Alicia only had a father. She never had the nagging mother or the annoying brother or sister. And although Alicia adored her dad, there were often times she wished to have that annoying sibling.

To Alicia, Williams was her family.

Being the only girl on the karting track had often left her sidelined, no one dared to come near here or even stood laughing at her. Alicia was never invited to the boys' birthday parties, or included in the yearly secret Santa.

Alicia often viewed life from the sidelines. Watching everyone else enjoy something she desired to do so badly.

And now, she got to race. She got to participate in secret Santa. She'd celebrate her birthday surrounded by a team that actually valued her.

"Is it bad that I'm attached to Williams?" Alicia asked, her heart was already syncing at the possibility of her not being there in a years time.

"Everyone thinks that McLaren is the biggest family on the grid," in the background Alicia chuckled, that was to far from the truth, "But Williams is like Jost gained a daughter and a son. He made us all a massive family."

Alicia sighed as Waffle crawled into her lap. "So you see why I don't want to leave, right?"

Charlotte nodded, "But you get too caught up in all these things. We need to work on your concentration."

Alicia groaned, staying sat on the floor. "Why!"

"I knew bringing Waffle was a bad idea."

"Alicia." The voice of Nadia spoke over the radio. So far qualifying was fun! Alicia had clearly made it into Q2 and now was waiting to see if a Q3 appearance was happening today.

"I don't like that voice..." Alicia warned over the radio, as she pulled into the pits. Throughout the whole session, Nyck had been all over her. Any lap she did, he did better. It was exhausting!

In the last two races Alex hadn't been able to push his teammate like this due to her furthered state of mind, but Alicia really thought that Monza was going to be her week.

A first time Q3 appearance was what she wanted, no scratch that a Q3 appearance was what she needed.

Nadia laughed, "You're always so negative."

This suspense was not what Alicia needed, she would need at least five minutes of screaming to recover from the fact that she could be in Q3. And all this messing about was not helping her nerves.

"Can you just-"

"You're in."

Alicia's eyes widened, "Sorry! Say that again! Say it again Nadia!" She exclaimed into the mic.

"Q3 Alicia. You're into Q3." Behind Nadia was a collective group cheer, the TV screens even turned to Jost jumping around in the garage.

Many would wonder why a Q3 appearance is so special. But not everyone understood just what it meant to Williams. The last few years had been hell for them, Q3 hadn't even been on their minds. They'd gone for the prestigious WDC champions to the backmarkers and although they weren't back to winning ways they were making progress.

And Jost was starting the future in Albon and Hugo.

"Alicia!" WILL BUXTON greeted the girl who had just qualified P9.

"Hello to you too, William." There was a smile on her face that seemed impossible to wipe off. She was on cloud nine. She'd qualified P9 at Monza, the temple of speed. Ferrari's home. And she was quickly coming to learn she had a lot of fans in Italy.

Alicia didn't even know she had fans!

"I see you're very pleased with yourself today, any hints as to why?" Will joked, raising his eyebrows.

The Williams driver sighed with content as she readjusted the hat that sat on her head. "I'm over the moon. I don't even think I'm on this planet right now. Am I dreaming maybe?" Alicia chuckled, using a towel to wipe the sweat off her forehead, "This means so much to me. Every race we just keep on going up and up."

"Points tomorrow, I hope."

"Believe me, you are not the only one." Alicia laughed, "If I score points tomorrow I don't even know what I'll do. Throw a party?"

"Do I get an invite?" Will asked, and from beside Alicia (as he always seemed to be) Carlos raised his eyebrows and decided to glare at the interviewer.

The girl nervously chuckled and rubbed the back of her neck, "Honestly I will not be throwing any party until Alex has recovered. If anyone deserves some credit, it's Alex. And my PT Charlotte. And Nadia, my engineer who likes to keep me on edge constantly. And Summer, she makes sure the press like me."

From the behind her Summer rolled her eyes, "Actually I'm going to go thank everyone in the garage. And then I'm going to meet Roscoe. And life's going to be great."

Will nodded, understanding that this was most likely was a big ordeal for the driver who just wanted to get away and celebrate with her team. "Before you go, we do have to ponder over that black eye."

No, no we don't Will.

That was not the focus of the interview we were supposed to be celebrating not dwelling on past 'events'.

Yes, that's what Alicia was labeling it as. Although she had come to an agreement in her mind it was an assault she still couldn't bring herself to say it out loud or even talk about it out loud.

Williams were pushing the girl for some form of statement, they couldn't keep avoiding the question as that only asked more questions.

"I-"

"Oh! We've got to get going, sorry." Summer apologized before dragging her driver by the arm down the media pen.

"What was that!" Alicia scolded the professional. Never in any mind had the driver expected her press officer to do that.

"You're not ready to talk about, and I forgot to say he couldn't ask about it. It was my fault. I'm sorry." Summer apologized as they walked down the paddock. "I can't-"

"Hey! Summer!" Alicia exclaimed, the pair coming to a halt in the middle of the paddock. "Just take a breather. You don't have to apologize for anything."

"I do-"

"Believe me, you do not." Alicia interrupted and clarified for Summer, "What you need is so Waffle cuddles and to not beat yourself up about it."

Speak of the devil, Waffle was on a paddock walk via Charlotte. And it was safe to say he enjoyed barking at Red Bull employees...

"Hey! Take this devil off of me." Charlotte pushed the lead into his owners hands, "He barked at every single Red Bull employee. And he almost bit Lando's fingers off!"

"Good." Alicia giggled as Waffle attempted to lick her face, "That rancid child probably deserved it."

"He also loved Carlos for some reason." Charlotte shrugged her shoulders.

Alicia immediately frowned at her dog, "Traitor."

"Alicia!" A voice boomed behind her and dreams were coming true. The fact it was Lewis behind her wasn't the matter at hand, it was the dog that followed him.

A gasp instantly left her mouth as she crouched down to the floor to meet the panting dog, "Hello! Oh you are so cute, Roscoe. Oh yes you are."

Charlotte and Summer exchanged a confused expression as they watched the driver softly talk to Roscoe.

Waffle was cautiously approaching the trio, but the second he spotted Roscoe he lay on the ground and stared at the smaller dog.

The two owners exchanged a glance as their paws were touching.

"I think our dogs are in love."

Italy was so warm. Alicia had very much not prepared for this. The race in Monza seemed to be never ending, it was so close to needing and then there was a safety car.

She just wanted to get out of this temple of hell and have a nice ice cold bath. And maybe some champagne too! Alicia definitely deserved it.

"This race is definitely ending behind the safety car, Alicia." Nadia confirmed. The McLaren of Daniel Ricciardo had given up on him in the final few laps and now the rest were slowly trundling along the track as they waited for it to end.

"Well, this is anticlimactic." Alicia commented. She wasn't sure what position she was in all she knew was that she had been fighting Perez for a position. So she assumed that was a points position but with Perez you never really knew.

"I don't even know what position I'm in." Alicia dryly chuckled. Monza was really taking everything out of her.

This triple header had felt like it was never ending. Everything seemed to be at a constant and it felt like you never had time for a break.

"I think I'm going to leave you in suspense." Nadia said, a smirk on her face as the final lap began all the car following after that beautiful Aston Martin safety car.

Alicia groaned, "I'd much rather you didn't. Actually, before you tell me where I am, tell me where Nyck is." As she drove at the desired speed she crossed her fingers.

Behind me, please say he is behind me Nadia.

"Behind you."

Oh thank God.

"P7. Alicia."

"Fuck off!" Alicia immediately cursed, "Sorry that was involuntary! I don't even know how many points that is."

Nadia herself didn't know. She wasn't used to Williams gaining points, and she most definitely wasn't used to them getting points this high up. "Well, while I try to figure that out, you'll be pleased to know this was a double points race for Williams."

No Nadia, that does not please her in the slightest! Way to ruin the point gaining race!

Nyck getting points on his first race was not what Alicia needed.

If people didn't advocate enough for the Dutch driver to take her place, they were most certainly advocating for it now.

aliciahugo: i am so speechless i have no way to put this feeling into cohesive words. three races in and we've scored points. it's a feeling like no other and i am filled with immense pride and joy.

i owe everything to williams who put their faith in me and are continuing too even if i swear at them over my radio (whoops?) this team has changed my life and i don't know how i can every repay them enough (more points i suppose 🫡)

to know even my dad was in tears as i crossed the line is just so relieving. that after all this time, all he sacrificed for me is finally being payed back to him.

i hope we can share more moments like this 💙

it might've seemed like the assault from last chapter has been glossed over but i didn't want to include aspects in this chapter i wanted alicia to celebrate first 😁
