gotta go by chung ha blasted through the boys earphones as he waltzed towards the run down corner store closest to his house.
his black doc martins thumping a beat as he walked. he took in his surroundings, finally picking up on the fact that the park that he and his friends used to always hang out was now barricaded off by police tape.
he huffed in sadness as he kicked a pebble with his foot. after what seemed like hours, the boy arrived at the corner store. he pulled out his earphones and stuffed them in the pocket of his black leather jacket.
the familiar ringing of the bell on the door rung as he entered the warm store. the owner gave the boy a warm smile which he returned with a bow of his head.
he quickly made his way to the instant noodles and grabbed himself, mother and younger brother one each. he quickly glanced at the price of them and sighed before making his way to the counter.
the cashier quickly rung up the boys items as he knew where the boy needed to be at the moment. the cashier quickly bagged the noodles and snuck in a few packs of candy before the boy noticed before handing it over to him.
the boy nodded as a thank you and quickly left the corner store. he pulled out his earphones again and pressed play on his phone.
the words to control by zoe wees encompassed his senses as he walked down the street. the boy pulled his cap down to cover his eyes more as he walked. he felt their eyes on him.
they all liked to stare at the boy who no one was brave enough to approach. the mothers with young children quickly grabbed their children and ran across the street to seek safety from the boy just walking down the street.
he was all too used to it by now. he had no one to talk to, no one cared about him. but he was okay with that. he was okay being alone. but that never stopped him from imagining how life would be if he did certain things differently.
with a huff the boy stopped in front of his house. he opened the door and not shortly after his younger brother came running over, chanting the older boys name and hugging his legs.
an instant smile made its way to his face as he replied to his younger brother and led him to the kitchen. he sat his younger brother down on a seat, told him to wait there and sauntered off to his mother's room.
he took a deep breath and knocked on his mother's door awaiting an answer that never came. with furrowed eyebrows he opened the door quietly and saw his mother peacefully sleeping.
he shook his head and walked over to her, pulling the blanket over her, turning her tv off and placing a kiss on his mother's forehead and whispering a soft goodnight before walking back to his younger brother.
he smiled softly at the younger who was now playing with his toy cars on the counter. he turned his back to his younger brother and begun making their usual dinner. instant noodles.
when he was finished making the noodles he placed a fair amount in a bowl and placed it to the side while placing the remaining noodles into a smaller bowl and grabbing a small plastic fork and walking over to his younger brother.
the little boy cheeses up at his older brother sheepishly as the older fed the younger. the oldest had a small smile on his face as he listened to his younger brother talk about his day at school.
however the smile was short lived when the youngest of the two told him what had happened as soon as their mother brought them home.
he instantly grabbed his younger brothers arms and looked for any sort of marking, then moving to look at the younger boys face then his legs.
tears pricked his eyes as he saw small bruises littered over the little boys arm that he knew weren't there this morning.
the boy picked up his younger brother and hummed a song to help calm himself down and lull his brother to sleep. he slowly made his way to his brothers room and tucked him in.
after bidding him goodnight the boy grabbed a scarf and quietly exited the house. he plugged in his earphones and let the lyrics of losing you by wonho be all that he heard.
he was upset and angry at himself. upset that his brother was now going through what he has to go through with their mother and angry with himself because he wasn't there to stop it, to stop their mother from hurting the little boy.
he grunted angrily as he stomped towards the barricaded park and entered, despite the 'danger' tape that was placed on the entrance.
he came to a halt at the swings and sat down while swallowing hard. no matter how hard he tried to suppress the tears from escaping he couldn't.
he placed his head in his hands as he sobbed quietly. he whispered out apologies and curses as he sobbed.
he didn't want to be here anymore. he didn't want to go on any longer than he has to. but he couldn't be selfish and leave his younger brother in the arms of the monster he sadly had to call his mother.
he slowly stopped crying and let his thoughts churn in his head. but what if he leaves and his mother changes? becomes softer? because after all she hated her oldest son more than anything.
he was the reason her husband was gone. he was the reason why they had the younger son. he was the reason her world fell apart.
but all he did was storm off during a pour down because his mother called him useless all because he failed a maths test.
so his father trailed after him but was soon stopped by a car that had lost control during the severe storm.
the boy blamed his father death on himself. he blamed himself for everything bad that ever happened to his family on him.
but what he didn't know was that it wasn't his fault. it was far from his fault.
the boy shook his head and realised it was beginning to rain. he scoffed and stayed seated.
all while the boy was fighting an internal battle in his mind he didn't seem to notice the girl who entered the park.
she slowly made her way to the boy, pulled out her earphones and shoving her phone in the pocket of her jumper before tapping the boys shoulder.
he yanks his earphones out and whips his head to her. all he can do is stare at her. why did she approach him? had she not heard the rumours about him?
the girl smiled softly, the boy almost didn't see it. she pointed to the swing next to the boy and asked if she could sit there.
the boy scoffed with a roll of his eyes and spat out an 'i don't care'. the girl rolled her eyes in response but sat down nevertheless.
she placed her earphones back in and decided to play arcade by duncan laurence. for the both of them, music was an escape from reality. an escape from the harsh world around him.
for the boy, music was an escape from his mother, his thoughts and his guilts. for the girl it was an escape from being who she had to pretend to be, the endless thoughts that clouded her mind and the endless emotions piled up in her.
the boy looked to his right and still saw the girl sitting there. he rolled his eyes and closed his eyes taking in the words of the songs that played in his earphones all until it begun pouring down raining.
he quickly opened his eyes and jolted up and put his phone into his leather jacket pocket to not let the rain ruin it. he couldn't afford to get a new one let alone fix it.
he was about to run home when he noticed the girl still sitting down on the swing. she had now begun actually using the swing to move back and forth. a smile on her face as she closed her eyes and let the sad music play louder than it was before.
the boy stood baffled before regaining his conscious and scoffing with a shake of his head, he bolted home and quickly changed out of his wet clothes and into his pyjamas.
he dried his hair with a towel and lay down on his bed, he plugged his phone in and played his music softly and shut his eyes, hoping to see nothing but black but to his surprise the girls eyes kept him company that night.
✨
multiple days passed before the boy saw the girl again. but something was different. she sat alone on one of the benches in the park that was barricaded off. she had her head in her hands as her body shook softly.
the boy let his feet mindlessly take him to the girl. she was in pain both physically and mentally. she was sick of pretending to be the good, straight a'd student her parents wanted her to be.
she was tired of dressing up in pristine clothes her parents forced her to wear. she was tired of not being herself. she swore to herself that one day she'd pack up and leave so she could finally let go of the person her parents wanted her to be.
she kept repeating to herself how one day it would all end and how she hopped it was sooner rather than later. as the boy neared the girl he could hear her soft weeps even with his earphones in.
he sighed, taking out his earphones and placing a gentle hand on her shoulder. the girl turned around slowly. mascara dripping down from her eyes as she looked up at the boy. her heart pounded as she looked into his worried and sorrowful eyes.
it pained him to see her in such a state of pain. he didn't like seeing anyone in pain. although he didn't even know her name, he felt guilty that someone other than himself was in pain. in the boys head only he deserved the pain the world had to offer.
the girl tilted her head downwards and hid her face from the boy who had by now sat next to her. the girl quickly wiped her face with her hands and turned her back to the boy.
he slumped his shoulders at the reaction he had gotten but still asked if she was okay to which she replied with a 'i'm fine.' in a whisper he almost didn't catch.
the girl wanted to open up, she wanted to tell the boy what had her heart feeling as heavy as it does. but she couldn't, she didn't know him like that. she didn't know if he was in contact with her parents or not.
