Hyunjin
Hope you guys had an amazing Thanksgiving with your family and friends. Hopefully everyone kept it at a minimum when it came to visitors because COVID-19 is no joke. Anyway, this will be a Thanksgiving Chapter/Part!
_______________________________
Thanksgiving week has started so that means no school for a while week. BUT (y/n) still has work and she slightly hated it. Not that working at the university's coffee shop is bad but some customers/students can be really rude, especially near the holidays.
"Hey."
(Y/n) was sweeping up the shop when her friend Hyunjin entered while wearing a really cute beanie. When she turned around to face him, she smiled and placed the broom aside.
"Thanks for letting me borrow your notes. I swear, asking the professor what we did on days we miss is a real pain and embarrassment. Luckily your notes are very organized", he said, handing her the notebook for English course.
"I get what you're saying", she said.
"You don't because you never miss a day. How do you do it? It's like you love school", he chuckled.
"I don't. Unlike you, I have to pay off loans. Not everyone gets a scholarship. Which is why I'm working here. Though with my payment, it'll take years and years. Probably even after I'm dead", she continued sweeping all while talking to him.
He sat down on one of the booths and took out three textbooks, opening one of them up.
"You have to study again? Why don't you go down to the library? It's much quieter there and I doubt the smell of coffee and the annoying sound of the customers' voices will let you focus", she said.
He raised the corner of his mouth, intertwining his hands together and leaning forward to say, "I'm one of your customers. You're saying I'm annoying?"
"You're tolerable. Anyway, the usual?", she asked, heading behind the counter as he nodded.
She quickly whipped up a hot chocolate and banana bread before bringing it to his booth. She made sure to place it aside so it wouldn't bother him while studying.
Continuing to clean up the shop before closing time, she washed all of the dishes, wiped off stains and crumbs from the counters, threw away the trash, etc.
A few minutes into studying, Hyunjin glanced to his left and noticed (y/n) breathing heavily before walking off to the back. His eyebrows went up and put his pencil down. He took out a water bottle from his backpack and stood up, waiting for her to come back to the front.
When she did, she got startled as he put the water bottle in her hand.
"What's this for?", she asked.
"For you. I think you're overworking yourself. Be sure to take breaks so you won't get as tired", he smiled, ruffling up her hair before getting back to the booth to study.
She tilted her head, confused but shook her head before taking a sip.
It was a few minutes after closing time. (Y/n) checked and locked everything, putting her bag over her shoulder while taking out her phone.
"Hey."
She almost dropped her phone as she was startled by Hyunjin who was leaning against the wall. He pushed himself off and walked towards her.
"Hey, I thought you left", she said.
"Yeah but...your bike still has that flat tire?", he asked.
"Yeah I won't get it fixed until tomorrow night. Why?", she asked.
"Do you think I can walk you home? I mean, your dorm is all the way across the university and it's late", he offered, scratching the back of his neck.
"Oh...well you see-"
"Babe!"
(Y/n)'s boyfriend, Seojun who's four years older than the both of them, had a smile on his face as he stepped out of his new car before walking towards her, placing his arm around her waist. Hyunjin's smile slowly disappeared and was replaced by a forced one.
"Who's this?", Seojun asked.
"This is my friend Hyunjin. He's in my English class", she said.
Her boyfriend extended out his hand to shake Hyunjin's and tilted his head, admiring his hair.
"Sorry Hyunjin. I'm gonna go eat with my boyfriend. But maybe next time we can hang out", (y/n) smiled apologetically and was motioned towards her boyfriend's car.
Hyunjin watched as they drove off before walking to his dorm.
~~~
"Hey, why'd you come so late? Wondered if you got murdered or something", Felix threw paper airplanes across the living room while his other roommate Seungmin ate a banana.
Hyunjin took off his shoes and placed his backpack on a chair before sitting on the couch.
"I was studying and didn't realize the time", Hyunjin answered.
Felix smirked and threw a paper plane at Hyunjin, "you went to see that cute girl, didn't you? I mean, that's your only excuse to go to that coffee shop and 'study'. I bet you don't even remember what you studied today."
"I do too. And no she's not the only reason-"
"But she's one of the reasons? Come on, why don't you ask her out already? You're always talking about her. So much that I feel like I'm dating her", Felix said.
Hyunjin rolled his eyes, answering, "she has a boyfriend."
"Oh yeah, that one dude that owns like four cars. He's a chump and a suck-up", Seungmin said.
"Seemed like it. Met him today. He drove off with her in his black Mercedes. If only I could've slashed his tires", Hyunjin said.
"Need help? I'm up for it", Felix said, raising his hand.
Hyunjin shook his head and said he was going to bed.
Seungmin and Felix watched as he laid down on his bed, covering himself with his blanket.
"Someone's in looooove", Felix whispered to Seungmin.
The next day, (y/n) woke up a little early to go for a jog around the campus. It's what she usually does each morning so she can have enough energy for the day.
Five minutes into the jog, She almost bumped into Hyunjin was was turning the corner.
"Hey! What are you doing here? I would've expected you to go with your family for Thanksgiving. All my friends have gone", she said, jogging in place.
"Nope. Just me. My parents are actually on a trip so Thanksgiving for one this year", he chuckled.
"Ah, I'm so sorry. Yeah I'm actually working on Thanksgiving even though I should have the day off. But there are gonna be some students on campus so....did you eat breakfast yet? I haven't had anything", she asked him.
His eyes lit up and shook his head before mentioning the small restaurant where his friend works. She agreed to go with him but wanted to change because she was wearing sweats and a huge sweater that belonged to her father.
"You look fine though. Come on, right now there shouldn't be that many people."
~~~
"Good morning—", a guy with slightly long blondish hair looked up from the cash register and raised an eyebrow, "hey, it's the cute girl."
(Y/n) tilted her head and looked at Hyunjin who was blushing a bit.
"This is Felix. He's one of my good friends and roommate. At times he can be a pain though", Hyunjin's said all while Felix was smiling widely.
"Hey, it's nice to meet you. I'm (y/n)", she smiled before stepping aside so Hyunjin would tell him something.
"No funny business", Hyunjin whispered to him, Felix winking while giving an 'ok' with his hand.
Hyunjin lead (y/n) towards a booth and let her sit first. He sat down next to her, leaving a bit of space so she'll feel comfortable, and handed her a menu.
"So what will you two be having to drink?", Felix asked.
"Orange juice", she said.
"Orange juice? What are you, five?", Felix asked.
Hyunjin kicked him under the booth, him muttering an 'ow'.
"What?? I'm joking. I prefer apple juice", Felix said before Hyunjin told him what he wanted to drink.
Their breakfast arrived minutes later, with a few teasing comments from Felix.
"So if you're working, why doesn't your family come over so all of you can be together?", Hyunjin asked.
She shifted in her seat and let out a small awkward chuckle, "it's just me. I don't mind though. Seojun keeps me company most of the time."
"Ah..I see..so this boyfriend of yours..he has a nice car", Hyunjin said.
"Don't even mention it. He keeps buying these dumb cars and I have no clue why when he can just drive in one. What's the point of having a lot of cars when you can just get from point A to point B?", she shrugged her shoulders.
"You don't like it?", he asked.
"I think it's a waste of money. I don't mind riding my bike. He just likes cars to show off I guess", she said.
"What guy isn't like that?", he chuckled.
"You aren't, I'm sure. I mean, you ended up buying a designer coat and wore it to school but you didn't mention it at all. I didn't even know it was designer until some girl pointed it out", she said.
"It was my father's. He gave it to me the day I moved out. I didn't know it was designer either", he chuckled.
She took a bite of her egg sandwich and glanced around the place. There were hardly any people and it was so quiet.
"What about you? Do you have a girlfriend?", she asked casually.
His eyes widened and ears turned bright red. She noticed how uncomfortable he got so she apologized.
Sorry. I shouldn't have asked....does your friend have a girlfriend? A friend of mine is interested in dating...someone. She doesn't think it matters who just as long they're not assholes. So is your friend an asshole?", she asked.
He chuckled and tried not to mention of all the times Felix has flirted and failed miserably. But he thinks it would be nice for Felix to settle for one person and not jump around.
"I'll see if he's interested. Best not to mention it now because he won't keep his mouth shut", he said.
"Ahh he's one of those. My friend is exactly like that. If they do end up going out, I won't stop hearing about it every night", she said.
~~~
When they finished breakfast, Hyunjin walked (y/n) back to her dorm. On the way, they talked about themselves and moments they had in class. Then the conversation switched to Thanksgiving day.
"You're seriously gonna spend Thanksgiving by yourself? You don't have any brothers or sisters?", she asked.
"Nope. Just an only child. You have any siblings?", he asked.
"No. I always wanted a little sister. I kept begging my mom but she would always say 'one day'. I did fine on my own though", she said.
Hyunjin kept wondering what happened to her parents. She hardly talks about them but it feels like she does want to.
"Hey, so—"
"Babe let's go! I've been waiting for you."
They were near her dorm but her boyfriend was leaning against his car, opening the passenger side for (y/n).
"Oh, I forgot he was gonna pick me up. You think I'll see you later when I'm at work?", she asked, smiling.
"Uh yeah", Hyunjin forced a smile as she walked away.
Seojun looked tense as he closed the door after (y/n) got in. He quickly looked up at Hyunjin and shook his head, making his way towards the drivers side.
"So you didn't ask her out? Would've thought after that breakfast date, she would be in your arms already...or maybe in your pants—"
"Quit it. I already told you she has a boyfriend-"
"Who gives no F's about her, obviously. I haven't met the guy but after hearing how much cars he owns, he's out cheating. A guy like him doesn't want to be going out with some college chick. You really like her so why not just try to get her to like you back?"
"Because I don't want to be known as the guy who ruins relationships. Besides, it really looks like she's into him. They've been going out for a year", Hyunjin sat down on the couch, letting out a breath.
"Oh yeah, I hear the wedding bells ringin'. Look, I'm just telling you this because we've been friends since middle school. You always let your opportunities with girls you like fly out the window. Ever since your ex girlfriend broke up with you four years ago, you've been quiet. And I can really see you being with this chick. Just think about it. I have to go. My mom just made fried chicken."
After talking to Felix on the phone, Hyunjin pulled a pillow over his face, letting out a frustrated groan, and threw the pillow across the room.
Later that day, (y/n) went to work. She was a bit exhausted and not in the mood, especially since her and Seojun ended up in an argument a few minutes before her shift started.
There weren't any people in the shop. Well...except for one person. This guy, she always sees him with a book in his hand. A different one each time.
"Need anything?", she asked him.
He looked up at her and smiled, "no, I'm okay for now. Thanks."
She nodded and began cleaning the booths and tables. Not a few moments later, in came Hyunjin wearing a grey hoodie. He smelled like pine cones.
"Hey", (y/n) smiled.
He greeted her back and sat down on one of the booths, checking out the shop.
"Why is it so empty?", he asked.
"People leave to go see their families. Those who stay hardly go out because they don't want to see anyone. Means less money for me", she said.
Huffing put a breath, she went behind the counter and took out her phone. Usually on slow days, she'll scroll through her social media and and check what her friends were doing. She'd comment on a few pictures and leave heart emojis on cute cat videos. Then she'd come across a post her boyfriend put up. Nothing new. Just showing how much he admires his cars. There are times when she just wants to scroll down but then guilt hits..then her thumb double tapping to like the picture. Now scrolling down.
"What's up?", Hyunjin asked, taking her attention away from the phone.
"With what?", she asked, putting her phone away.
"You look...not focused", he said.
Her eyes darted towards the front of the shop. Her boyfriend came in while putting his car keys in his pocket. Sighing, she forced a smile and told Hyunjin she's fine.
Seojun waited as Hyunjin went back to his booth before walking towards (y/n). She was in no mood to talk so she pretended she was organizing the coffee mugs.
"Are we gonna talk or are you just gonna ignore me?", he asked, tapping his finger on the counter.
"I'm working", she answered.
"So what? No one is here anyway", he said.
"I have customers", she said.
Seojun eyed Hyunjin before facing (y/n) again, "like I said, no one is here."
(Y/n) sighed quickly before telling him that they'll talk later. He mentioned he was gonna pick her up after her shift was over and left the shop without saying another word.
The other guy felt a bit uncomfortable so he grabbed his book and left. (Y/n) groaned, feeling frustrated and angry, so she sat down.
"I know I shouldn't say anything because it's none of my business but, if you need space or like a breather, you should let him know. A couple should give each other space so they could be reminded of why they love each other. And then when they reunite, all the problems they thought they had just vanishes", Hyunjin said.
(Y/n) softly chuckled and raised an eyebrow, "What are you? An author?"
"Hey, who has the highest grade in English class?", he said.
"By 2%. I could've had the highest grade if I hadn't forgotten to type one section of my presentation", she answered.
"I doubt that. Your notes may be neat but you hardly understand how to correctly construct your essays and you lack the ability to check your grammar and misspellings. Other than that, you're top notch", he said, causing her to scoff and laugh, but also resulting in a few punches to the arm.
"Hey, that's abuse. Don't make me tell your boss", he joked.
She rolled her eyes and leaned back onto the booth. She wondered many things, her feelings. There are times when she doesn't want to think about her feelings but it happens either way.
"Need some advice?", he asked.
"Do you think I need advice?", she asked.
"I don't mind helping. You should smile more though. Even when you don't want to. If you smile, you'll start to think everything is okay until you start believing that it is. It works", he said.
"Is that what you do? It seems like you know what you're talking about", she said.
Hyunjin shifted his eyes to his hands. He did think about the times he's forced himself to smile, to the point where it just happens automatically. It's like he became a robot.
"I smile because I want to. It makes people's days. Just like yours, am I right?", he joked.
"You're such a clown and I applaud you for that. Anyway, I have to get back to work. Casper the friendly ghost gotta have his coffee too", she stood up from the booth and thanked Hyunjin for making her feel better.
~~~
Days pass, work hours seem longer, but Hyunjin always stops by and orders the same thing, even if he doesn't finish it there.
Seojun and (y/n) constantly argue but later that day they make up. Hyunjin tried to hold back on what he wants to say, to both of them. He hates whenever (y/n) looks sad so he tries his best to make her feel better, even if it always ends up with her in Seojun's arms.
Hyunjin paced back and forth in his living room, hesitating to call (y/n). He would dial her number but hang up right away. His palms are sweaty and his heart is racing.
"Jeez don't be a chicken Hyunjin. Just tell her", he said to himself.
He called her again and let the call go through. When she answered, he began to pace again.
"Hey (y/n)! I was calling because I need to tell you something–"
"Hyunjiiiiiin! Babe look it's Hyunjin. Oh wait you can't see. Silly me."
Hyunjin furrowed his eyebrows and carefully listened to the voices. It didn't sound right.
"Are you drunk?", he asked.
"Nooo...maybe a little but that's okay. I'm having fun with Seojun and– Babe stop it, that's my drink."
"Where are you? I can pick you up", Hyunjin grabbed his hoodie and the keys to his friend's car before heading out the door.
"Seojun will take me home. In his...I think that orange car...or is it the blue one?"
"Just tell me where you are."
Hyunjin arrived at the park where (y/n), Seojun and his friends were drinking. Some of his friends were passed out and two of them were jamming out to a Beatles song. Seojun had his arms around (y/n)'s waist while waving a bottle of beer in the air.
"Hey looook. It's Hyunjiiiiiiin. Come have some fun with us", (y/n) waved her hands in the air.
Seojun rolled his eyes and walked over to his friends and continued drinking.
"The drinks are cold and taste weird but that'll pass", she poured a beer in a cup but Hyunjin grabbed it from her hand, placing it down on the ground.
"Come on, it's late. I'll take you home", he held her hand but she shook her head.
"I wanna stay a bit longer. It feels nice here", she whined but Hyunjin kept pulling her away from that small toxic group.
As he opened the passenger side for her, Seojun noticed and started walking towards them.
"Hey! What do you think you're doing?", he asked, throwing the empty bottling on the grass.
Hyunjin ignored him and got in the drivers side. He knew Seojun is acting tough because his friends are around but Hyunjin wasn't afraid one bit.
He started the car and drove off.
It was silent at first but then (y/n) pushed the button so the windows can roll down. Hyunjin wasn't having it. He rolled the window back up and locked it which made her sad.
"I want air though", she pouted, resting her head on his shoulder.
"I'm pretty sure you wanna keep your head too. Don't you have work tomorrow morning? What are you doing out and drinking this late? And it's quite a stupid decision to let your boyfriend drive you home when he's drunk himself", he explained.
He's being serious but (y/n) smiled and played with his hair.
"I'm jealous of how soft your hair is. Mine is dead and crispy and I say I'm not gonna curl or straighten it anymore but I can't help it. I look like I have a lion's mane if I don't do anything to it", she went on and on about her hair.
"Look, I'm gonna drop you off at your dorm and–"
"Noooooo. I'm all alone. My friends are out. All I have are my pillows...I KNOW. Can we go to the beach??? I like touching the sand but I hate the ocean. Can we collect sea shells?", she asked, poking his cheek.
He chuckled and shook his head.
"It's too late. If we go now, we can get a ticket. But we can go one day. You just have to promise me not to drink anymore. It's not like you–"
"Gross. You're being sweet. And I think imma puke", she mentioned.
He stopped the car and was about to get out to help her but she laughed.
"I'm joking! That was me making a joke. Seeeee, I can be funny too. Not just you", her voice sort of squeaked as she booped the tip of his nose.
"You know, if you feel like you do have to puke, let me know. This isn't my car", he said.
(Y/n) mocked the way he said it and yawned.
"Can I go to your dorm? I don't wanna be alone. I wanna eat and hug a unicorn", she mumbled.
"You wanna eat a unicorn?", he joked, smirking.
"EWWWW WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU?? What kind of person would eat a unicorn?? Do you eat unicorns? If you do, I can't be friends with you. And why are you smiling?? You're weird", she extended her arms to stretch.
Hyunjin smiled, glancing at her a few times. She rested her head against the door and closed her eyes.
A few minutes later, Hyunjin parked the car and carried (y/n), making sure he's careful. He felt bad if he just left her at her dorm alone so he decided to bring her to his dorm. Since his friends aren't gonna be there, he didn't think it was a bad idea.
Though he has to go through the window because people of the opposite sex can't be in the same dorm. Luckily it's on the first floor.
Getting in was a drag because he had to make sure her head didn't bump on anything. And he almost dropped her.
He placed her on his bed and was about to cover her with the blanket but her hand was slightly holding onto his hoodie.
"We're the same age yet you act like a baby. I guess you're kinda fun. Though you shouldn't let your guard down, especially around your boyfriend. I wonder what you see in him", Hyunjin took off his hoodie and carefully placed it on her.
He kneeled down and smiled, softly pushing a strand of hair behind her ear while also admiring the features on her face. His eyes landed on her lips, noticing how small but plump they are. He didn't even realize he was leaning in until he felt her breath, that's when he pushed himself away and shook his head.
"Don't be that guy. She has a boyfriend.....a very annoying boyfriend who's an asshole", he mumbled to himself.
"I want a pony", (y/n) mumbled in her sleep, turning her lips into a pout.
Hyunjin smiled and leaned down to kiss her forehead.
"Goodnight weirdo."
The next morning, (y/n) woke up with a massive head ache and felt nauseous though she doesn't feel like throwing up. She held her head and fixed her vision, realizing she's not at her dorm.
"Ooooh my–...I cheated on Seojun", she gasped, still looking around but then realizing she still had her clothes on.
"Mornin'", Hyunjin headed towards her while carrying a tray that seemed like breakfast.
He placed it in front of her and mentioned that he messaged her boss that she got the flu and won't be able to come in.
"You have the rest of the week off. Oh and Happy Thanksgiving", he smiled.
"My head is killing me. Did I say or do anything embarrassing?", she asked, hoping he'd say no but from the look on his face, she can tell she's in deep crap.
"Let's see, you mentioned how you're jealous of my hair and how dead yours is, you like cuddling with your pillows when you feel lonely, when you go to the beach you love touching the sand but hate the ocean, and you wanted to eat a unicorn. But you also mentioned how I'm the most handsome person you've ever met", he smirked.
(Y/n) ears turned red and she covered her mouth, "did I really say that? Was I annoying? Did...I do anything?"
"Anything like?", he asked, wanting to tease her a bit more.
"I don't know.....did I make you feel uncomfortable?", she asked.
"You didn't. But your boyfriend did. Why did you go out and drink? It's not like you", he asked.
"... I don't know", she shrugged, "I need to call him. Where's my phone?"
Hyunjin unplugged her phone from his charger and handed it to her. When she looked at how many missed calls and text messages she got from Seojun, she panicked and quickly called him.
Standing up, she walked towards the window and waited until he answered.
"Seojun hey. I just woke up. I didn't hear your calls", she combed her fingers through her hair, hearing how angry he is.
While she had her call, Hyunjin made the bed, though he couldn't help but hear them arguing.
"It's not my fault though. He was just helping", she mumbled but that only made Seojun angrier.
(Y/n) felt her breathing get heavy, not being able to hear any more.
"What do you mean? You can't just–.....Can we talk about it?....Seojun?....hello?", she looked at the phone and realized he hung up.
She called him again but it would go straight to voicemail. She tried to keep her tears in because it would be pathetic if she cried in front of Hyunjin.
"(Y/n)? Are you okay?", he asked, placing a hand on her shoulder.
"...if I said yes, would you leave it at that?", she asked.
"No because I wouldn't believe you. What did he tell you?", he asked.
"He broke up with me because he thinks I don't give him enough attention. Which is quite stupid because all I do is try to get his attention. That's why I went out and drank alcohol with him and his friends. I thought that if I did things he likes, he'd actually notice I was there. Lately it's been all about his stupid cars", she mumbled.
He held her hand and pulled her towards the couch so she could sit. He gave her a water bottle to drink before sitting down next to her.
"Let me ask you something. Do you still feel the same way about him as the day you first met?", he asked.
She thought about it and realized that she doesn't feel the same way. Maybe she was trying to force herself to have feelings because Seojun was the only one there for her.
"It's different now. I mean, my mother was never around and my father passed away a year ago and he's the only one who was there for me. He took care of me and even helped out with my debt for school. I don't know what happened.....it's weird and stupid. I'm stupid for not even realizing", she said.
"No. Don't say that. I think he's the one who's stupid. He paid all his attention on cars when really he should've kept his attention all on you. I don't know what type of person would choose an object over a person who is beautiful, funny, caring, smart–", he stopped himself from talking and chuckled awkwardly.
"Anyway, he's not worth it. Hey, since you're not working today, what if we spend Thanksgiving together? We can go to the beach since you wanted to yesterday. Or we can just stay here and watch movies. Whatever you want to do", he smiled softly, reaching out for her hand to squeeze.
She smiled and nodded, "yeah, sounds like fun. Can we do both?"
"Of course. We gotta plan out what we're gonna eat–"
"CHICKEN NOT TURKEY. I always eat chicken instead of turkey. And what about mashed potatoes? I love eating that! And it's gonna be cold so I think some hot chocolate would do. And–.....I don't feel good", her expression changed and she held onto her stomach.
Before Hyunjin could have the chance to hand her the small bin, she had already leaned over and puked all over the floor.
While (y/n) showered, Hyunjin cleaned up the place. He's not disgusted by it because Felix would always drink and become drunk until he either knocks out or pukes where he is. Seungmin ignores him.
He opened up the window and sprayed freshener so it would no longer smell.
(Y/n) is sitting on the floor of the bathroom, mentally cussing at herself. She had already finished her shower and luckily Hyunjin let her borrow some of his clothes.
About a moment later, he knocked on the door and asked if she was okay because it's been a while since she turned off the water.
"Are you gonna come out any time now?", he asked.
"...no. Imma stay here until I am old and dead. That's so embarrassing what I just did. I puked on your floor and I ruined you're socks. Just shoot me now", she whined.
Hyunjin shook his head, even though she couldn't see, and told her that she shouldn't be embarrassed. The sound of his voice and they way he spoke made her feel a tad bit better but she still didn't open the door.
"Okay if I tell you something embarrassing that happened to me, will you open the door?", he asked.
"...maybe", she answered.
He sat down on the floor and against the bathroom door as he thought about something embarrassing that's happened to him. There were a few but he has to choose one that will convince (y/n) to come out.
"Oh! Okay so this happened a few months back. I was carrying my lunch and didn't notice my shoe laces were untied. I tripped in front of everyone and landed on my lunch. But after I stood up, I slipped and hurt my ankle. I had to walk on crutches and every time someone asked how I hurt myself, I had to lie", he said.
Hyunjin didn't hear anything from the other side of the door. He was about to knock but (y/n) unlocked it and slightly opened it. He smiled and rested his head against the doorframe.
"There you are", he scooted a bit closer.
His eyes went down to the clothes she was wearing and tried not to smile.
"You look so cute and tiny wearing my clothes. Like a kitten in a pocket", he said.
"It's not my fault I'm short. I'm a 5'4 and a half 20 year old", she said.
"Right then, will you come out? I feel a bit lonely. I need your craziness to give me energy", he said.
"I'm not crazy. I'm just not boring. Now give me a brush because I need to tame this hair", she stood up from the ground and looked at herself in the mirror.
"Sure. I keep an extra one under the sink", he grabbed it for her and tried brushing her hair but she turned around.
"I can do it myself", she wanted to grab the brush but he extended his arm, out of her reach.
"Come on, let me brush your hair....I'll let you brush mine?", he mentioned which caught her attention.
She nodded and turned back around. As he continued to brush her hair, she hummed quietly and closed her eyes.
"At what time are we going to the beach?", she asked.
"Well, I can take you back to your dorm so you can get ready and we can go on from there–", Hyunjin was interrupted by the door unlocking.
He heard Felix's voice. Stepping out of the bathroom, he found his friend putting his bags on the floor.
"Hey, I'm back early. Got called in for work tomorrow–", Felix stopped talking once he saw (y/n) coming out of the bathroom wearing Hyunjin's clothes.
"Oh....I didn't realize you had company..should I go?", Felix asked, trying not to smirk as his eyes went from Hyunjin to (y/n).
"It's not what you think, pervert. She had an issue yesterday and I was just trying to help out", Hyunjin explained.
"Don't need to make up an excuse. Whatever you two do is your business. Anyway, I'm gonna go get breakfast. You two...continue", Felix excused himself and walked out of the dorm.
"You have friends that have very inappropriate thoughts", she said, chuckling.
She went back into the bathroom to brush her hair.
Hyunjin took (y/n) back to her dorm so she can change and get ready while he waited in the car with Felix.
"Am I invading your date with (y/n)?", he asked, smirking like an evil elf.
"It's not a date. I just feel bad because her boyfriend broke up with her. He blames her for getting drunk and coming back with me. He's the one who kept handing her beer bottles. He's the one who's been neglecting her. If it wasn't for me, he could've killed her because he was gonna drive her back to her dorm. I don't know...the whole thing just frustrates me", Hyunjin said.
"Because you like her. And don't say that I'm wrong because you make it so obvious, especially when you talk about her. Your ears turn red and you smile automatically. If they broke up, this is your chance. You don't want her moping around over that guy. You want her to fall head over heels for you. So when she comes out, I'll drive back to our dorm and I'll let you borrow the car so you can go wherever you want and do whatever you want. And use protection–", Felix got hit behind the head and pouted.
"What? It's better to be safe than sorry", Felix said.
A few moments later, (y/n) came out wearing some high waisted shorts, dark green crop top, and a black leather jacket while having her hair down into waves. She also had a little bit of makeup on.
Both Hyunjin and Felix have their mouth open and eyes wide like two psychos.
"Yeah, I go back to saying use protection."
Felix stayed back in the dorms while (y/n) and Hyunjin hung out at the beach. She's excited and couldn't stop moving her legs.
"Can we collect sea shells?", she asked.
"That's up to you."
Hyunjin parked the car before (y/n) ran out and took off her shoes and socks as soon as she was on the sand. She likes to dig her feet into it.
"Come on slow poke!", (y/n) called out for him as she began walking.
He was following behind and watched as she found different shells. The beach was quite empty which (y/n) loves because she feels calm. She sat down on the sand a few minutes later with Hyunjin sitting next to her.
"We should've asked Felix to come. He's alone for Thanksgiving", she said.
"He told me he was just gonna catch up on some sleep because he has to work early", he said.
"Oh...well we should at least get him some food. Is that alright?", she asked.
"It's not like I can say no because if I do, you're gonna do it either way", he said.
"And you're correct because he's your friend. Even though he's a bit on the perverted side, he's really nice", she smiled.
"Really? Most of the girls I meet tend to call him weird", he said.
"Oh he is. But I'm a good way", she said.
He smiled and nodded.
He stood back up, shaking the sand off his shorts and held out a hand for her.
"What?", she asked.
"In the water", he said.
Her eyes widened and she shook her head. She told him she doesn't like the water but really she doesn't know how to swim. Admitting it to anyone will most likely cause her to stay silent for who knows how long.
"Can't we just.....sit here?", she asked.
"...you can. I'm gonna go and feel the fresh water on my feet. If you care to join, I'll be over there", Hyunjin walked over to the water and felt how cold it was.
He tried not to show it but the loud yelp that came from his mouth made (y/n) laugh. He cleared his throat and stepped in some more.
(Y/n) felt a bit lonely and wanted to be near Hyunjin but she feels that even stepping in the water will give her a panic attack.
It's her fears that make people push her away from their lives and she doesn't want Hyunjin to do that. So she stood up and slowly walked towards him.
Her feet were close to the water and hesitated a bit but Hyunjin held her hand and softly smile to reassure her that it's okay. She kept her hand in his, taking a deep breath and got in.
"What was that?!", she jumped as she felt something touch her foot, getting behind Hyunjin.
"Seaweed. You're gonna feel seaweed everywhere. There's nothing to be scared of", he said.
"Yeah for you. You're really tall and I'm short. I can use you as like a boat", she said.
They continued walking further but (y/n) had the water near her neck and held onto him for support.
"Can we go back? I look like a koala on a tree", she said.
He shook his head but agreed to stay away from the deep side. She didn't want to let go and he was okay with that.
"And don't you dare go underwater. I would've done my makeup for nothing", she said.
"There's nothing wrong with your natural face. And why did you wear makeup? Usually you don't wear any at all", he said.
"...it's Thanksgiving", she mumbled.
"Yes and today's the day to show how thankful we are towards our friends and family. It if that's what you want, go for it. Who am I to say you're not allowed to wear makeup?", he chuckled.
He put her down on the sand and smiled.
"Well I'm thankful to have you in my life. I've only known your for three months but you've done more for me than my roommates who I've known for two years. I mean, they wouldn't clean my puke and say that it's fine. They'd actually make fun of me. I'm glad you're not like that", she said.
Hearing her say that made him blush. And he couldn't even look at her in the eyes.
"Should we walk to the pier? There's usually people selling things", she said, grabbing her shoes to walk but Hyunjin quickly held her hand.
A bit shocked at first, she watched him walk first while softly pulling onto her hand. Without realizing, she smiled to herself and caught up to him.
They bought a few things for each other and decided to eat something. There was an empty bench near the edge of the pier so while Hyunjin bought the food, she waited. But she had wished she stayed with him.
"Hey, you're the girl who works at the campus' coffee shop, right?"
A guy who's wearing a really long coat and cute small glasses stood before her while carrying a calculus book.
"Yeah, you're the guy who's always reading something", she said.
"So that's how I'm referred to as? Hm, well my name is Junseo. I'm a third year", he extended his hand.
"I'm (y/n). I'm a third year too", she said, shaking his hand.
"Oh that's cool! What are you majoring–"
"(Y/n), here", Hyunjin gave her a hot dog and her drink while sitting next to her.
"You're with your boyfriend. I'm so sorry, I should've known. It is thanksgiving after all. Anyway, I should get back. My girlfriend and daughter don't like to be waiting long", Junseo excuses himself and walked off.
"Huh, I didn't know he has a kid...or a girlfriend at that", she said.
"Why? Cuz he looks all nerdy?", he chuckled.
"No. There's nothing wrong with the way he looks. You wouldn't like it if someone called you Pippi Long Stocking", she said.
Hyunjin touched his hair, "I look like Pippi Long Stocking?"
Rolling her eyes, she ate quietly. He did the same.
A few feet away from them, there was a guy laying the guitar. He was singing a song that sounded so familiar to her but she couldn't figure it out.
"You like what he's playing?", he asked.
"Yeah, I just forgot the name of the song", she said.
Putting the hot dog down, he grabbed her hand and pulled her up onto her feet before putting his arms around her.
"What are you doing?", she asked, slightly blushing.
"You said you like the song. So why not dance to it?", he smiled.
"But I can't dance", she said.
As she said that, he grabbed her hand and began to lead.
"Seems to me like you can–OW", (y/n) accidentally stepped on his foot which she quickly apologized.
They didn't have any shoes on so when they did, he grabbed her again to dance. Instead of arguing with him, she let it happen.
"You know, I never told you why I'm so thankful to have you in my life", Hyunjin said.
Her eyes went up to meet his, noticing a sparkle in them.
"It's hard to explain. You're a really great person and you never fail to make me laugh or smile. When I'm with you, I feel comfort and warm inside. You're like my daily dose of happiness", he said.
She chuckled softly and couldn't help but blush. She had no words.
"Thank you for being amazing", he said.
(Y/n) leaned her head forward so it could be resting on his shoulder. They continued on like that for next three minutes until she spoke up.
"Seojun was never like this. I mean, at first he was sweet but I'm realizing now that it didn't feel genuine. You've been more kind to me than he has. You take care of me and show more affection. I wish he'd been more like you", she said.
He lightly smirked and faced her, "that sounds like a confession to me."
She thought about it and should've realized it before. She loved hanging out with Hyunjin more than Seojun. He would just get her into trouble.
Shrugging her shoulders, she smiled before saying, "if only I'd met you sooner. Maybe it wouldn't have been so bad."
"What wouldn't have been so bad?", he asked.
"I don't know...being with you I guess", she said.
"So is being with me now terrible?", he asked, teasing her.
"Oh my god no! T-That's not what I meant! It's great being with you. I meant...", as she struggled to find the rights words, Hyunjin kept a smile on his face before pulling her in for a kiss.
Whenever (y/n) would watch a romance movie or series, she'd get excited about the two main characters falling in love and kissing for the first time. But she hates when the female lead has her eyes wide open like those fish that have humongous eyes. She always hated it and even said she would never do that. But she's only experienced kissing with one male and that is her ex-boyfriend. Never has she left her eyes open when he kissed her.
Now, Hyunjin is a different story. Her eyes were as big and wide as the moon. Her stomach felt weird and tingly while her heart beats rapidly. It took her a few seconds to reciprocate the kiss, wrapping her arms around his neck. She felt his tongue gliding on her bottom lip, asking for entrance but before she could, his phone rang.
He pulled away and sighed annoyingly before answering the phone, "what?"
"Hey since you're out, can you bring me some carrot cake?"
"And you just had to call me now?", he whispered, turning away.
(Y/n) gave him some privacy and took a few steps back while admiring the view of the sunset.
"Oh.... are you guys.....doing it?"
"No!...just...don't call back", Hyunjin said.
"So if you're not doing it then why can't I call you? What if I just wanna hear my best friend's voice??"
"Boohoo cry me a river. I'll be there later", Hyunjin hung up and faced (y/n).
"Was that Felix? Is he okay?", she asked.
"Yeah. Would've figured he'd be asleep", he said.
"Oh...", she turned quiet once Hyunjin stepped closer to her.
His hand went up to her cheek, thumb caressing her bottom lip, wanting to kiss her again. He leaned his head forward but she pulled back.
"What's wrong?", he asked.
"Seojun broke up with me today....and I'm kissing someone else the same day. Doesn't that make me a whore? Or....that's how everyone in school will see it.", she said.
He wrapped his arms around her and shook his head.
"It's none of their business. And if you hear anyone talking badly about you or say something that upsets you, let me know and I'll take care of it", he said.
(Y/n) smirked and asked, "and what will you do? Tell on them?"
"I might. No one messes with Hwang Hyunjin and the people he cares about. And you're #1 right now. You took Felix's spot", he smiled.
"Wonder how he's gonna act when you tell him that", she said.
"I won't. And neither will you", he said.
"And what if I do?", she asked.
Smirking, he got closer until his nose touched hers, " try it and you'll see what happens."
"....okay!", she turned away to walk but Hyunjin wrapped his arms around her again and kissed her cheek.
After a long day at the beach, Hyunjin drove (y/n) back to her dorm. The drive there, they were quiet. Not an awkward silence but of comfort.
(Y/n) took to it to hold his hand and smile at him, because she knows what she's feeling and the way he's with her is genuine.
"You know what I realized? What we've been doing is physical. Our confession was physical...but not verbal. I feel like that's what's missing....and I have another confession I'd like to make. It's not like I just started liking you today. I've had feelings for you for weeks. I was trying to gather up the courage to ask you out but that's when I found out you have a boyfriend. And I didn't want to be the person to 'steal' you away. I have to admit though, he's a bad influence on anyone", he said.
"....the feelings I have for you are quite different than what I had with Seojun. The thing is I should've realized it sooner. You're way better than him", she admitted.
"Like...better kisser? Because if so, I'd keep kissing you. See, I'd ask if he's a better lover but we haven't gotten that far...yet", Hyunjin smirked.
"And we won't if you bring it up. You call Felix perverted but I say you're both the same. But anyway, I'm gonna try to be a good girlfriend to you. Because I don't wanna mess this up", she said.
"You're so sweet that it's gross", he chuckled.
She nudged him before holding his hand again.
Hyunjin offered for her to stay with him and Felix since she's gonna be alone again which she agreed. But he did warn her about all the teasing they'll get when Felix finds out but she doesn't mind one bit. She's happy now.
