The view of the ocean is what calms (y/n) down. She loves the smell of the ocean and the feeling of the sand. Every time she goes to the beach house with her friends, there are times she'll stay out for hours.
"Have you seen my socks? I placed them down on the bed-...HEY THOSE ARE MINE", Changbin walked out of the shared bedroom with Minho.
He had noticed Minho is wearing his "lucky" socks. Why are they lucky? He thinks they're the reason why good things have been happening to him.
"But these socks don't hurt the bottom of my feet. Let me have them", Minho said, turning away on the kitchen stool.
"No, you always end up ripping holes in your socks and I don't want that to happen to mine. Besides, I need it for today", Changbin said, watching as Minho took off his socks.
After giving him his socks, Minho glanced over at (y/n) who's sitting on the couch while staring out the window. She had her laptop and notebook in front of her. He noticed she's too focused on what's outside and he became curious. So his eyes followed where she was staring at and realized it was Jisung.
He's helping Chan grill the hamburger meat. Minho smirked and nudged Changbin, pointing to her.
"Something caught your eye?", Minho asked.
She turned around and raised an eyebrow at him, "the hamburger meat."
"Hm..are you sure that's the meat you're looking at?", Minho asked, trying not to laugh at her flushed face.
She began to stutter and dismissed the question with another question, "aren't you gonna help me with this? You said you were gonna help me with this list for home economics class."
Sighing loudly, he got off of the stool and sat down in front of her, explaining some ideas to write.
The conversation happening outside is quite different though. Jisung let out a breath and sat down on a chair while Chan grabbed the hamburger buns out. He turned to his left and spotted Minho close to (y/n).
"They seem smitten with each other", Chan commented.
Jisung glanced and softly scoffed, "no they don't."
"Jealous because she's not smitten with you?", Chan raised an eyebrow, trying to hide the smile the crept up.
Rolling his eyes, he shook his head, "we're just friends. She can be smitten with whoever she wants. It's none of my business."
"Whatever you say", Chan shrugged his shoulders and continued cooking the meat for the burgers.
Jisung let out a quiet sigh as he took one last glance at (y/n) before focusing on something else.
After a few minutes, everyone headed out to serve themselves but (y/n) stayed inside. She was worried about the full amount of assignments she has to finish for school. For those who decide to go to college, good luck.
Sighing, she combed her fingers through her hair and wished she could drop out but she doesn't want to be in debt, more than she already is.
"Hey", Jisung smiled as he walked towards her, "got a burger with your name on it. Literally, Jeongin wrote your name on the meat with ketchup."
She smiled back and thanked him, "that's so cute. Remind me to buy him his favorite ice cream. Anyway, thanks. I'm not really hungry but thanks."
He placed the burger down on the coffee table and sat in front of her, looking down at all the papers lying around.
"Aren't you on vacation? You have time to do all of this", he said.
"No I don't. My professors are a real pain in the ass this semester. Even though I'm only taking four classes, my schedule is stupid and I literally have no time to study. I already failed my calculus test and it was my mistake to take home economics class because it's not even part of the degree I'm getting. I wanted to be more open though. And now it's too late to drop it. I don't want to get a W", she said all of that in one breath.
"You don't have a plan? Did you even talk to your counselor before starting?", he asked.
"I did but he had an accent and I couldn't really understand him so I just agreed with everything he said. Luckily I only have one semester left and I'm done with school", she huffed out a breath and placed her laptop to the side.
"Two years older than me yet we're graduating at the same time", he chuckled.
"It's not my fault I started late. I wanted to save up just in case I wasn't eligible for financial aid. But it's also scary because if I fail any of my classes, I'll be on temporary probation and they won't give me the money", she explained.
"You're smarter than anyone here. I'm sure you won't fail any of your classes", he smiled and patted her knee.
She thanked him, hoping her ears aren't red. Usually happens when she's embarrassed.
A moment later, there was a knock on the door. Seungmin, who was near the door, opened it. Seems like he knows the person. Of course, (y/n) does too.
"What the hell is she doing here?", she asked under her breath.
"You know her?", Jisung asked, surprised.
"Yeah. Mrs. Know-It-All is in my calculus class. She never gives other students a chance to ask or answer any questions", she said.
"Come on, she's not that bad", he said.
As soon as the other girl noticed (y/n), she frowned. The other guys came back inside to greet her but can feel the awkward tension in the room.
"Why is she here?", the girl, who people call Annie, asked with a disgusted face.
"She's our friend. Have you met her before or-", Seungmin answered before being interrupted by Annie rolling her eyes and walking towards the living room.
"I mean, why is she here when she doesn't have any money to afford anything?? Is she leeching off of you guys??", she turned to face her, "you should be ashamed of yourself. It's bad enough you have a horrible family background and now you're making people feel bad for you. You're just seeking for attention. Why don't you just go back to that poor family of yours-"
"Hey, that's enough. Who are you to say she can't be here? We all came here to relax. Maybe inviting you was a bad idea, no offense hyung", Jisung said before glancing at Chan who had invited her when they met at the office.
"That's not fair though. Her kind shouldn't be with us. We can't be the only ones paying for things, and paying for her as well?? That's ridiculous", Annie scoffed.
"Her kind?..you really have some nerve", Jisung stood up out of anger but (y/n) held on to his wrist to keep him from lashing out.
Annie could see her hand on him, feeling disgusted. All she's thinking is she shouldn't be around anyone that has more value than her.
"I think you should leave", Chan added which only made her more furious.
"Fine. If you guys want to hang around someone who isn't worth it, whatever. You'll soon realize all of you were wrong for kicking me out", Annie gave one last glare towards (y/n) before stepping out of the beach house.
That's when everyone looked at (y/n) which made her quite uncomfortable.
"Are you okay?", Jisung asked, sitting back down next to her.
"Yeah, I'm used to it...Anyway, I can't really think in here. It's too stuffy. I'm just gonna take a breather and head out", she smiled before standing up, making sure her papers are together.
They watched as she walked out the back and headed towards the sand. They felt bad, mostly Jisung. He feels really horrible. He was about to follow her but Changbin put his arm forward to stop him.
"It's best if she has her own space right now."
It's been an hour. (Y/n) is still sitting outside on the sand, sighing softly as the wind caught up. It's starting to get cold yet she didn't bring out a sweater. Not unusual.
She felt a warm fabric be placed around her before meeting eyes with Jisung. She smiled and thanked him before properly putting on his sweater. It's warm, just like him.
He noticed the sad look on her face but he knows she won't admit it because she doesn't like any of them worrying about her. He'll do anything to see a smile on her face though.
"You're not okay, are you?", he asked.
"Hm?", she turned to face him, watching his lips curve slightly downward, "I am. I promise.....it's just, I know I shouldn't be used to hearing that type of stuff. It's always her though. Believe it or not, we used to be friends back in middle school. She'd brag about the clothes that her parents would buy for her or even the toys. But when she found out about my dad quitting his job just to be able to work from home so he could be around me more, she changed and didn't want to be near me. She'd make jokes about that being the reason why my mom left us. What she says doesn't bother me anymore though because I know my dad works hard and he sacrificed so much just so I could be happy, and I am. I just don't want him to hear what people are saying. It happened once before and the look on his face when he thought I was embarrassed. I'm not embarrassed of him at all. It just gets me so mad that people think we're less than everyone just because we don't have a lot of money."
"I don't think that at all. And neither do the guys. She shouldn't say stuff like that to you, especially knowing what you've been through. That makes her a horrible person. You are more than what she is. You have goals set, you're selfless, work hard, give so much even when you have nothing for yourself. You have no idea how amazing you are. I'm sure your father is so proud of you. And it's great that you don't care about what other people think. You don't have to have a lot of money just so people will like you", he explained, smiling as he remembered the first time they met, "do you still have the rock I gave you?"
"Are you kidding? That's my lucky rock. Like Changbin, I have something that brings a lot of luck to me. What about you?", she asked.
He nodded and showed her the small rock that he made into a necklace, "I don't go anywhere without it. I remember losing it once and I freaked out because I didn't think I'd see it again. Turns out it was under my bed."
"Whoa. How'd you do that?? I wanna turn mine into a necklace. It would be quite easier than keeping it in my pocket and worrying whether it fell out. Can you show me?", she asked, quite impressed.
"Yeah. It was really easy actually. But we have to go to the store because we need a few materials", he said.
"Oh....can we go now?? I wanna take a break from my assignments...unless you don't want to then that's fine", she asked but Jisung immediately shook his head and stood up, extending his hand so he can help her up.
So as they walked down the path of the sand, the others were watching from the beach house, wondering what they were talking about.
The store is a few minutes away from the beach house so it won't be too late when they go back. They walked next to each other and stayed silent as they were in their own thoughts. Though they were both thinking about the same thing.
"So...how are your classes going?", she asked, turning around to walk backwards while facing him.
"Fine. Not as exciting as last semester but at least the work assignments aren't difficult", he said.
"It sucks we hardly get to see each other now. I miss you sometimes", she admitted, turning back to continue walking normally.
He chuckled softly, "sometimes? So you don't miss me all the time? I'm hurt. And here I was about to admit that I miss you every second of every day but you don't get to hear that now because my heart has been shattered by your cruel words."
She laughed as he dramatically held onto his chest while faking a pained expression, "Drama class has really gotten into you, hasn't it?"
"Hey I love drama class. It's the only time I don't fall asleep in class", he said.
"And yet you're graduating with perfect grades. I don't know how you do it", she sighed softly before spotting the crafts store up ahead.
She began skipping until she was in front of the entrance. Jisung watched as she impatiently waited for him to catch up.
"Hurry up, you snail", she whined while pulling him by the hand.
They walked through each aisle, (y/n) observing carefully on what he was grabbing, just in case she wanted to make a necklace when he's not around....maybe make a couple for him.
"You want a snack or something?", he asked, pointing to the chips and candy.
"Mmm..no. I'm trying to lose weight actually by not eating any junk food. I bought these cute pair of jeans a few weeks ago and a few days later, they didn't fit. Being a college student, I'm too broke to gain weight. I've noticed the bigger the size, the more expensive clothes are because more materials and fabrics are used. That's not fair at all. But I'm just trying to fit into my old clothes when I was less chubby,", she answered as she placed the other things in front of the cashier.
"Never experienced that before", he said as he took out his card but she told him she'd pay..but he beat her to it as he gave the card to the cashier.
"Lucky you with your fast metabolism. It's painfully easy for me to gain weight and very difficult to lose it. I wish I was you", she put her hands in the pockets of the hoodie while walking outside with Jisung behind her.
"You don't jog every morning anymore?", he asked.
"Who has time for that? I just feel more tired. So if I have less time to exercise, I'll just cut the bad stuff...including that delicious wine that I love. I'm so sad", playfully pouting is not her forte. Actually, anything involving acting cute is not her forte. But at least Jisung likes it.
"Your love of wine and thought of it will ruin your will power. So don't think about it and only think about the good result", he smiled.
"I know...but still. That wine that you bought for me, I still have it in the fridge and I didn't even get a taste. Now I have to leave it there to go to waste. But once I go down on my weight, I'll attack that bottle as if it's nothing", she bragged.
"You shouldn't drink it in one go. You're supposed to enjoy it slowly. Besides, won't you gain weight with wine?", he asked, raising an eyebrow.
(Y/n) tilted her head and didn't think about that, "guess I shouldn't then...oh hey! Since we're out here, we should visit our spot! I feel we haven't been there in ages. It's not far and we can make the necklace there. It'll have more meaning."
"The start of our friendship isn't meaningful enough? Oh, there goes my heart again", he held onto his chest, showing a pained expression.
Rolling her eyes, she nudged his arm while laughing.
"Okay, lets go!"
"Wow, didn't think the treehouse would still be here. I would've expected it to be taken down", she carefully climbed up until she was inside the treehouse.
While Jisung climbed up too, she looked around and noticed their stuff was still there, though a bit dusty and leaves everywhere.
"Ducky is still here", he pointed out the small toy he left there, among other things.
They sat down and grabbed the materials m the white plastic bag. She took out the rock in her pocket and gave it to him, watching as he wrapped it with some type of wire. He was so focused on making the necklace, he was practically holding his breath.
It took less than 15 minutes to make the necklace. When he finished, he helped her put it around her neck.
"How does it look?", she asked.
"Looks great", he smiled.
Sighing, she leaned back and looked out the window of the treehouse. Not much to see, just a lot of trees and a small lake nearby.
"Hey, so..Chan was telling me that you have a crush on Minho. Is that true?", he asked, out of the blue.
Raising an eyebrow, she shook her head and answered, "No. I mean he's really attractive but I don't like him like that. Why would he tell you that?"
Shrugging his shoulders, he looked away and tried to suppress a smile, "I guess because you two seem pretty close."
"I'm close with all of you. And we have classes together so he usually helps me with classwork or homework", she answered.
"You don't need to explain anything to me. If you like him then you like him", he teased, nudging her arm.
"I don't!...maybe he likes me but I don't like him back. Why are you bringing this up anyway? If I was interested in anyone, I'd tell you", she said, which kind of upset him because that means she's not interested in him. That's what he thinks.
"Just wanted to see if there's anything new happening in your life. Sorry", he smiled sheepishly before facing out the window.
She let out a breath and apologized too for sounding too harsh.
There was an awkward silence, one that they've never had before. It's never awkward between them, not even back then when they had small arguments.
"We should come here more often. I miss the little games we used to play", she said.
He smiled and looked through the plastic bag, taking out two packets of m&m's, "great minds think alike."
"No way! I didn't even see you grab them. Let's play! You close your eyes first", she opened one of the bags and waited until he closed them.
When he did, he opened his mouth and felt an m&m on his tongue. He chewed on it and tried guessing the color.
"Green", he answered.
"Nope. Yellow. My turn", she closed her eyes and waited.
Once she had the m&m in her mouth, she chewed, "red."
"How the heck did you know??", he's shocked but not too much because he remembers she'd always get them right.
She clapped and teased him before continuing. It went on like that for the next few minutes or so until Jisung decided to do something ballsy.
So when it was her turn to guess, he waited until she closed her eyes. A bit nervous but he's telling himself if he doesn't do something about it now, he won't get another chance.
"Did you leave or what?", she asked, wondering what's taking him so long.
"I'm still here", he said. He scooted closer, leaning forward until their lips were inches apart. At that moment he wondered whether she'll reject him or push him away, that's what he's scared of.
But no time to worry, he's already doing it.
He softly pressed his lips against hers, placing both hands on her sides. She immediately opened her eyes and pushed herself back, feeling confused.
"...that's not how the game goes", she mumbled.
"..I know...I was just....I'm sorry. Just forget I did that", he chuckled awkwardly, feeling a little bit disappointed in himself.
"Look, if this is a joke then I don't appreciate my feelings being played with. You should know that", she said.
"I do know that. Why would I play with your feelings? That's not like me", he said.
"Okay so if this isn't a joke then...", that's when she realized he actually did have feelings for her. Real feelings. "..you could've at least given me a warning. I still had peanuts from the m&m's I ate."
He smiled, trying not to laugh and ruin the moment, "didn't taste so bad."
She hit his arm and covered her face. He's happy that he can see her blushing, which means he has a chance.....but then it got him thinking, who is this person she's interested in?
"Although I feel like this is going somewhere good, I just need to know who you're interested in. Because it's gonna bother me and I need to be prepared for when they're around", he asked nicely.
"Oh...actually...you know how I said I'd tell you if I was interested in someone? And notice how I didn't tell you anything? That's because that someone is you. Minho has been egging me on about telling you and I was afraid you wouldn't feel the same because I thought you'd want to be with someone younger, one who's knees don't crack", she said.
That time it was hard for Jisung not to laugh. Not at her but at what she said. "You're acting like if you're 80 years old. You're 23 with healthy bones I presume. And I don't care if you're older than me. Just as long as we're both legal adults and we are."
"Okay...so what does that mean now?", she asked.
He smiled and scooted closer to her, gently holding her hand before looking into her eyes. "That means I can finally ask you out on a date and I'm hoping you say yes because otherwise, you'd be the one playing with my feelings. So? What do you say? Will you go out with me?"
(Y/n) smiled back and nodded, feeling more than just butterflies in her stomach. He felt relieved that she said yes. But now he's feeling a lot of pressure because he wants the date to be perfect.
She looked at her phone to check the time and panicked as it's almost 11pm. She still needs to finish her assignments and it's not her habit to leave everything last minute. A perfectionist will only stress more if things don't go the way they want it to. And that is not what she wants.
So they packed up their things and walked back to the beach house.
A few of the guys were waiting in the living room, thinking of scenarios between (y/n) and Jisung. Some very innocent, others quite not.
"Bet when they come back she's pregnant", Minho said.
"Dude, gross. And I don't think that's possible", Changbin said.
""Why is it always you and Hyunjin thinking about dirty things?", Chan commented.
"Excuse me Mister I-Walk-Around-Naked-Just-Because-I-Have-A-Great-Body. We get it. You have abs. That doesn't mean we want to see it", Minho's sarcasm is always something to look forward to, only because he's unpredictable.
"That's rude. I don't think about dirty things. I dream about it. It's not my fault, I can't control it", Hyunjin tried defending himself before running off to his room.
Before anyone else can say anything, (y/n) and Jisung entered through the glass door of the patio, catching everyone's attention. The smirks on their faces as they saw their intertwined hands caused them to pause as soon as they stepped in, looked at each other, then quickly let go.
"I have homework to finish", she said before heading towards the couch and coffee table where her assignments were waiting. She grabbed everything and headed towards the room appointed to her.
"So everything is fine?", Chan asked.
Jisung nodded and explained what she had told him. He also explained that she had agreed to go out with him and that he needed help planning the date.
"Don't worry. I have the best idea for a first date", Minho places an arm around Jisung's shoulders.
"Sex on the beach does not count as a date", Jisung said, pushing his arm away.
"Wasn't gonna say that. Jeez, is that the kind of guy you think I am? I'm completely offended", Minho pouted cutely while walking away.
Jisung rolled his eyes while shaking his head, wondering how the hell did they end up as friends. But their indifferences makes their friendship a lot more fun and interesting.
It's now 2 am. (Y/n) has finally completed her assignments and is relieved to be able to sleep all day. Now she can can have fun with her friends and participate in the activities they have planned.
Her phone sat an arm length away on her bed. A few glances at it made her wonder whether Jisung is awake. Probably not....then again....
'Are you awake?'
Not a second later, she got a response.
J: 'Yep. Can't sleep.'
'Why?'
J: 'Well I'm sharing a room with Hyunjin and he's been talking in his sleep, mentioning a man sitting on the chair across the room. Now I can't stop thinking about that so I was hoping watching a few videos on YouTube would help.'
'Hyunjin has been known to scare the other guys too when he does that. Anyway, I just finished my assignments and not really too tired to sleep. Wanna get a snack?'
J: 'Sure. I'll meet you out in the kitchen.'
(Y/n) set her phone to the side and threw her legs over the edge of the bed, putting on her furry black slippers. She waddled out of the room, mostly because her legs fell asleep from all the sitting.
Her hand landed on the handle of the fridge, opening it to be attacked by the bright light, exposing all the food and drinks. She checked each row and spotted a piece of vanilla cake.
"Hey", Jisung smiled as he entered the kitchen.
She leaned against the counter while placing the plate of vanilla cake in the center. She gave Jisung a fork and said he can get some if he wants. He nodded and took a small bite.
They were quiet...too quiet. Both thinking about what to say. He glance at her, noticing a smile on her face.
"What?", he asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Nothing", she shook her head.
"You're smiling for no reason though. Or maybe the cake is that good. Either way, that's a different smile", he pointed out.
"I can't smile?", she asked.
"Of course you can. Just curious on why you're smiling", he turned and tilted his head.
She shrugged her shoulders and took a bite of the cake. Of course, the icing smudged on her lip.
Jisung stepped forward until he was less than an arm length away. He eyed the icing on her lip and reaches forward with his hand, smirking.
"Really? Icing on the lip? Such a cliche. If you wanted me to kiss you, you could've just asked", he chuckled before softly wiping away the icing.
She blushed before looking away, telling him to not be ridiculous, though that is a great way to trick him into kissing her.
The icing was now nowhere near her mouth but he kept a close distance, hands near her waist. His smile softened as he made eye contact. Since he mentioned kissing, there's no harm in doing it, right?
The kiss is soft, gentle, and makes them feel happy. Was there tongue? Just a little. They were still shy about it.
His left hand moved up to pause near her neck while his right hand stayed on her waist but pulled her closer. Her hands grasped tightly onto his shirt, not believing how amazing she feels right now.
The kiss was interrupted by Hyunjin walking into the kitchen, showing an exhausted expression. Once he spotted the two of them quickly pulling away from each other, he sighed loudly before mumbling, "cold shower here I come", and waddled away.
When he left, they looked at each other and began laughing.
"We should head to bed", she calmed down and threw away the plate while Jisung looked at her with curious eyes.
She wondered why until she realized how she said that sentence, "I mean...head to our own rooms. I'm kinda beat."
He followed behind her and held in his smile, "Yep, that's what Jisung's smoochalicious make out sessions do. Hope you recover soon so we can continue."
Before heading into her room, she turned around and hit his chest, somewhat impressed by his cockiness. As she stepped into her room, Jisung leaned against the doorframe while tilting his head.
"Mind if you have company? I really don't wanna go back to be possibly murdered by Hyunjin in his sleep. I'll stay on the floor and I won't try anything. Promise", he said.
"Fine. But you get the hard pillow. There's no way I'm giving you mine", she stepped to the side to let him in.
While she set up blankets and pillows on the floor, hoping it's comfortable for Jisung to sleep on, he was going around the room and spotted a book filled with pictures of trips they've been on.
"Alright. If you wake up with pain on your back, don't blame me", she said, climbing up onto her bed.
He placed the book on the shelf and headed towards his spot, covering himself in blankets.
They stayed quiet for about a minute before (y/n) placed her arm over the edge of the bed. He noticed and extended his arm to be able to hold her hand. They smiled and closed their eyes, falling into a deep sleep.
