Changbin
*TRIGGER WARNING: Mentions physical abuse and toxic relationships*
_______________________________
Changbin is one quiet kid. Not like the rest. Many boys his age were ready with adrenaline and much energy to run around and kick soccer balls, tease their friends for liking a girl, and sometimes even call each other names. But not 12 year old Changbin.
He's the quiet kid....but never around (y/n). He loves to talk about his favorite video games, the songs he's listened to and even talks about how he's feeling.
He trusts her 100%.
(Y/n) is the type of person to listen carefully to what her dear friend tells her. But she trusts too easily. That can be very risky and dangerous.
Her back has been stabbed many times by friends, family, and boyfriends. Throughout the years, Changbin keeps warning her to make sure she knows what she's doing or else she'll keep getting hurt.
Skip to six years later, Changbin and (y/n) moved into their first apartment. They kept their promise to become roommates.
"Hey, is this your shirt?", (y/n) asked Changbin as she held up a black shirt with the words Guns N' Roses on it.
"Oh yeah! I was looking for that shirt everywhere. Where'd you find it?", he asked, grabbing it from her hands.
"It was in my closet. I must have mixed up our laundry when I went to go wash our clothes. I was tempted to wear it. I was gonna pair it up with some black shorts and the cap you gave me for my birthday", she said.
She walked over to the couch and grabbed one of the books she started reading. She has this small collection of books, some that have been read and the rest that are new. Changbin knows how much she loves to read so he tries to buy a few for her.
"What are you reading?", he asked, sitting down on the other couch.
"Twilight. I'm reading it again", she said.
"You have other books you haven't read though", he said.
"I know. I really like this one. I've loved Twilight since I was in middle school. I couldn't get the other books even though I really want to read them. Movies aren't the same because it skips a bunch of scenes. Books are the only way I can get full detail", she said.
"Books have messed up your mind. You think everything will get a happy ending. Remember Romeo & Juliet? You wouldn't stop talking about their death and wondered if they're happy", he said.
"Well....they should be, shouldn't they? They loved each other. Haven't you ever thought about falling in love with someone? I mean, you haven't even dated even though people keep asking you", she said, putting the book down.
He propped up his feet on the couch while resting his head back.
"Nope. I don't see why I have to", he said.
"You don't have to. I just wanna see you happy with someone. You're Mr. Grumpy", she said before standing up and looking over him.
He smiled and poked her side.
"Hey! Stop that!", she whined, slapping his hand away.
Changbin sat up and noticed a bruise on her wrist. He reached towards it and held her hand lightly while examining the bruise. She quickly pulled away.
"It's not what you think. I had a bracelet that was starting to get old so I wanted to take it off but I couldn't. As I tried, it got tighter and it was hurting. I had to break it off", she explained.
"That doesn't look like a bracelet would do that. Looks like someone grabbed you. Did that really happen or are you lying to me?", he asked.
(Y/n) shook her head and mentioned it was more than one bracelet. Changbin didn't believe her but also didn't want to argue with her. Instead he wanted her to learn by mentioning that if anyone hurts her emotionally or physically, to let him know.
"But I'm fine though. It's just a little bruise. It can't kill me", she said ever so innocently while batting her big eyes.
Knowing (y/n), he knows she won't admit what's going on. He always has to find out the hard way. He already took care of one ex-boyfriend. Never bothered her again.
(Y/n) noticed the face he's making and realized she didn't convince him so she stood in front of him and placed her hands on his cheeks, slightly squishing his face.
"Trust me on this", she said.
He softly pushed her hands away, "I trust you. I just don't trust anyone else. You're always getting hurt. Where the hell do you find these guys anyway?"
"School. I get partnered every project I have. They don't really wanna come here though when we work on it", she said.
"Why?", he asked.
(Y/n) pressed her lips together and turned around, trying to escape from explaining but Changbin caught her hand.
"They don't wanna come here because of you. Everyone heard about what you did to Loui. They were surprised too", she said.
Changbin scoffed and rolled his eyes.
"Are they siding with him? That's ridiculous. You better not be siding with him as well", he said.
"I didn't say anything. I think they're just scared. I mean, you do look intimidating now that you started working out more. You look like the hulk except you're not green", she said.
He couldn't help but laugh and called her weird. She sighed in relief and threw him a pillow.
"We have to buy new pillows for the couch. These are getting old", she said, sitting next to him.
"Well you can do that. I suck at picking out furniture. Remember the yellow couch we got when we first moved in here? It did not match with anything else", he said.
(Y/n) remembers everything. They didn't have a lot of furniture or decorations to make the apartment feel like home so they went shopping. Changbin was so confused because he kept choosing stuff that made no sense. After a while (y/n) chose everything and he felt bad so he ended up buying food.
"You were so smiley back then. What the hell happened?", she joked.
Changbin nudged her and then messed up her hair which he instantly regretted because the last time he did that, he ended up getting a hard fist to the stomach and it was not the greatest feeling ever.
"I was just excited. I never thought I'd move out at 18. And with the most greatest person ever, might I add. It just makes me feel more grown up and responsible. Though paying the bills is not exactly fun", he said.
"Well you had no choice but to let me move in with you. It's not like I was gonna stay behind with your parents and little sister. I don't mind it but I'd feel like I'd go insane", she said.
(Y/n) moved in with Changbin and his family when she turned 16 because her family had enough of her making mistakes. Fortunately his parents loved her and treated her like she was their own daughter.
"It's because they feel like your parents didn't show any affection towards you. They want you to be happy just like they want me and my sister to be happy", he said.
"I called them yesterday. They said they were gonna come visit soon but don't know when. You're gonna be here right? Last time you weren't and your mom really wanted to see you", she said.
"It depends on the day. But I'll try to get the day off", he said.
(Y/n) stood up and went into her room to grab a notebook where she draws her doodles. She was in the mood to draw and had an idea in her mind.
Changbin exhaled loudly before his head shot up when her phone beeped from the coffee table. Because neither of them have any problems looking through each other's phones, he reached over and looked at her screen. There was a message from an unknown number.
'You really don't like me? You weren't saying that last month at the club.'
Changbin got curious and opened her messages. He read the entire message from the number and felt his stomach drop.
(Y/n) walked down the hall and into the living room only to see Changbin going through her phone. She quickly ran over and tried to snatch the phone away from his hands but he pulled it over her.
"Give me my phone", she said.
"What is up with these messages? And when the hell did you go to a club??", he asked.
"..I didn't. I don't even know why you're looking at my messages. That's an invasion of privacy. I don't go through your messages", she said, crossing her arms over her chest.
"You would if you found out I kept in touch with toxic people. Why is this guy messaging you this way??", he asked.
(Y/n) grabbed her phone when she had the chance and put it away in her pocket before answering, "it's none of your business."
Changbin's eyes widen, shocked to hear how she reacted.
"(Y/n), do I have to remind you what happened a year ago? Did you not learn from that??", he asked more seriously.
"It was just a small scare. No big deal. Nothing happened", she answered, shrugging her shoulders.
"Nothing happened? You were bawling your eyes out. You had trouble sleeping. A pregnancy scare is a big deal. Did you sleep with this person??", he asked.
"That's personal. And you're not my boyfriend so you have no right to ask. I can hang out with whoever I want", she started getting mad because she thinks he's making it sound like she sleeps around when that's not really the case.
She turned away and headed for the front door.
"Where are you going??", he asked.
"Out", she said before slamming the door.
While walking down the sidewalk, she kept grumbling words to herself. No one was around because where they live, it's kind of hidden. She sat down on a big rock near the corner of the street and took out her phone.
Looking through the messages, she began to realize that maybe she sounds a bit desperate. It's like she wants to say no but then if she does, she'll feel bad.
Then she started to think about that night when she went to the club with the guy she met a few weeks ago. She had fun. But she started losing interest after a few days because she found out she's not the only girl he talks to. He won't leave her alone though.
"Ugh!", she groaned while covering her face with her hands.
She feels bad for talking that way to Changbin. He's only looking out for her yet she acts that way. She's surprised he hasn't left her out on the dirt.
"(Y/n)."
She turned to her left to see Changbin walking towards her while holding onto a red jacket. He placed it around her and sat down next to her.
"You're gonna get sick. It's too cold out here", he said.
"...thought you would be mad at me. I would be if I were you", she said.
"You're just confused. I know you wanna be in a relationship that seems 'perfect' but there's no such thing. Every relationship has issues. But what you go through is not healthy. The guys that you meet are assholes and have no respect for you. When are you gonna see that? You should be treated like a queen and be showered with hugs and kisses and compliments. Not be treated like a punching bag", he said, lifting up her bruised wrist.
"I told you this was because of my bracele-"
"Bull. Hiding this isn't gonna help. If he touches you, or if anyone touches you, you know what I'd do. Nothing will stop me. So if I go to jail, that will be on you", he said, causing her to laugh, which is what he wanted.
"But seriously though. No more talking to this guy. No more dating for now. Just focus on yourself, okay?", he smiled, pinching her cheek.
She nodded.
"Okay. So...back to my question. Did you sleep with him?", he asked.
"Does that really matter?", she asked.
"Yes. It does", he said.
Sighing, combed her fingers through her hair before nodding.
"Did you use protection?", he asked.
She stood up and paced back and forth.
"This is weird. I don't want to talk about it", she said.
"I'll take that as a no. Correct?", he asked.
She feels like she's being interrogated. Again, she nodded.
"You went to the club a month ago. Are you...feeling okay?", he asked.
"Changbin-"
"You were sick last week. It's possible...", he said.
"I really don't want to talk about it", she said, once again crossing her arms over her chest, slightly moving them down.
He noticed.
"Unless you already know..", he said, standing up correctly.
(Y/n) began to stutter and faced away. He noticed tears in her eyes so he took a few steps forward and wrapped his arms around her.
"I don't know. I don't know if I want to find out", she mumbled, feeling ashamed since this is now her second time.
"It's best if you do. Once you do, we'll figure something out, okay?", he said.
"We? This has nothing to do with you though", she said.
"You're my best friend and roommate. Of course it has something to do with me. I'm not gonna ignore you or push you away. Although I do have to tell you that if you are and it's a boy, I'm gonna get him obsessed with Pokémon Go!", he said.
She laughed against his chest and looked up at him.
"It kinda sounds like you want me to be.......I'm scared", she admitted.
"Whatever happens, I'm here."
~A Few Months Later~
"Changbin, I'm gonna be late. What are you even doing? I'm surprised I'm ready before you", (y/n) waited near the front door as she struggled to put on her shoes.
He ran out of his bedroom and apologized, explaining to her that he couldn't find his belt. He noticed she couldn't put on her shoes so he kneeled down and helped her.
"If I get any bigger, I swear I won't even be able to look at my feet", she said.
When he tied both shoes, he stood up and smiled.
"I think you look cute. You waddle like a duck", he teased while making duck sounds.
"Shut up", she stuck out her tongue and opened the door.
They drove up to (y/n)'s doctor's appointment which almost took an hour to get there because of traffic.
They sat down in the waiting room, (y/n) looking around and wondering why everyone is there. Her hands landed on her stomach and exhaled slowly.
"Are you nervous?", Changbin asked.
"A little", she answered.
He held her hand to comfort her and said everything will be fine.
"Do you think you can go in with me? You won't see anything. You can just cover your eyes or I can punch you until you get knocked out", she said.
"You get more and more weird now that you're pregnant", he chuckled.
(Y/n) rolled her eyes and snuggled herself against him because it was quite cold, outside and inside.
When they called her name, the nurse lead them into a small room where they waited at least three minutes for the doctor to come and check on her.
She had to lie back and as she did, she felt her heart race. Changbin once again held her hand and stood aside so the doctor can do her job.
The doctor lifted up her shirt so her stomach can show and was a bit concerned when she saw a bruise on the side she's in. She then looked up at Changbin who was focused on (y/n).
"So you have a small bruise here. Nothing to worry about. It's very common with pregnancies depending on how hard the baby kicks. Do you know how many times the baby kicks each day?", the doctor asked.
"No. I don't really feel the baby kick...is that bad?", she asked.
"Each pregnancy is different. I'm just gonna check on the baby and if you want to know what the gender is, I'll let you know. I'll be right back", the doctor excused herself, leaving the two alone.
"Bruise? You never said anything", Changbin said, checking her stomach.
"It's nothing", she mumbled, covering her stomach.
She tensed up once Changbin reached over to her stomach. His eyebrows scrunched up and found another bruise on her upper arm.
He lifted up her short sleeve and eyes widened, noticing how dark and big the bruise is.
"(Y/n), who did this??", he asked.
"No one. I hit myself against the door. That's probably how I got the bruise on my stomach", she said.
"You're lying to me. I thought we talked about this. Is this the same person who won't leave you alone? Hm? Because if it is, I'll call the cops again to make sure he won't touch you", Changbin said.
"You're being dramatic. I bruise easily. You know that", she said.
Anything she says, Changbin won't leave it alone. Who would?
Before he could say anything, the doctor came in and asked if Changbin can wait outside because the questions she's gonna ask (y/n) is a bit personal.
He glanced at her for a second before leaving the room.
"Is everything alright at home?", the doctor smiled.
"Yes. Why?", (y/n) asked.
"Well, the type of bruise you have doesn't show it was by accident. The color of the bruise and the size of it as well. And I can also see another bruise on your arm and your waist. If you're being abused, you need to let someone know. Is it your boyfriend? He tensed up when I walked in here", the doctor said.
"He's not my boyfriend. And he would never do anything like this.... I already told you I hurt myself against a door. So if you don't mind, can you please hurry up?", she said.
The doctor exhaled before continuing with the sonogram. When she had finished, the doctor was about to say something but she just walked out and met up with Changbin who was in the waiting room.
They walked out of the building, Changbin was quiet. Even as they got in the car. During the drive back home, (y/n) glanced over at him. The veins in his arm were popping out and he had a serious expression on his face.
"I'm having a girl...isn't that great?", she said, hoping he'd talk.
He stayed quiet. (Y/n) shrunk into her seat and looked down at her stomach.
"..you're mad", she mumbled to herself while sighing.
A few minutes later, Changbin parked the car in front of the apartment, frowning as he saw a familiar person waiting.
"Stay here and lock the door", he said before getting out of the car.
Changbin stormed his way towards the guy that has been stalking (y/n) and pushed him.
"What the hell??", the guy wanted to push Changbin back but he got punched in the face.
Falling to the floor, the guy was kicked repeatedly until he couldn't move. (Y/n) couldn't bare it any longer so she got out of the car and ran towards Changbin, holding him back so he'd stop.
"If the neighbors see you, they're gonna call the police. Please stop", she begged, wrapped her arms around him.
His face softened and took steps back.
"Guess you're whoring around with him now? Not surprised", the guy said which got Changbin angry.
He headed towards him again and continued beating him up. Not too long after, the police arrived. Changbin stopped as soon as they rushed towards him, telling him to put his hands in the air.
(Y/n) tried to explain to them that it was all a big misunderstanding but he was already in handcuffs. Changbin kept telling them that the other guy should be going to jail because he has been hitting (y/n) but they didn't listen. She tried pulling Changbin away but a police officer had to stand in the way and carefully hold her.
The police had told her that Changbin will be staying overnight. Unfortunately they didn't arrest the guy who has been stalking (y/n) even though she had already told them everything.
(Y/n) waited on the couch and kept checking her phone. The same guy keeps sending her messages but she made sure this time to keep the messages and not erase them.
She stayed on the couch until the next morning. As she heard the door open, she sat up and watched as Changbin quietly walked by and ignore her, going in his room. Curious as always, she stood in front of his bedroom door and softly knocked.
"Are we not going to talk about this?", she asked.
Pure silence.
(Y/n) knew that deep down, Changbin is still angry. She feels terrible. She wanted to open the door to check on him but of course she wants to respect his space and privacy so she walked into the kitchen and started taking some pans out.
A while later, Changbin came out of his room to the aroma of chocolate. His curiosity lead his towards the kitchen where (y/n) is too focused on decorating a cake.
"What are you doing?", he asked, startling her.
"Jeez you scared me. What if I had a heart attack?? Or gone into labor??", she dramatically said.
"You're not due for another 8 weeks. But why are you baling a cake? Our birthdays aren't even close by", he said.
"I wanted to make it up to you...and apologize", she said.
Once she turned around to face him, he was in shock to see her with a black eye and a busted lip.
"I told the police everything. He came by yesterday night and I tried to get him to leave but that only made him angry. I showed the cops the messages he's been sending me and the bruises I have. They arrested him and when he gets out, he can't get near me and the baby or else he'll be arrested again and he'll get more time. I'm really sorry Changbin. You were only trying to help and I should've said something sooner", she said.
He could feel her apology is sincere, plus she's trying not to cry. Instead of making her feel worse, he sighed and wrapped his arms around her.
"Is that whole cake for me then?", he asked.
"Yes", she answered.
"So that means I don't have to share?", he asked.
She chuckled and pulled away.
"It's all yours", she smiled.
He grabbed a fork and put a small amount into his mouth, giving her a thumbs up. Satisfied, she leaned against the counter and watched him eat small pieces.
A few weeks pass until (y/n) ended up going into labor. She was so terrified and in pain that whenever Changbin offered his hand, she'd squeeze it so tight that he would scream as well.
He had to wait outside because (y/n) was a bit embarrassed. So he waited and waited, pacing back and forth, feeling worried and excited.
When the nurse told him that he could pass, he quickly went over to the room and carefully peeked inside. (Y/n) was resting on the hospital bed while holding her baby girl. Changbin smiled and entered, keeping a distance.
"Hey, how are you feeling?", he asked, walking a bit closer.
"Exhausted....and happy. But mostly exhausted", she said.
Changbin looked down at her baby, watching her observe the world.
"She's so tiny. She looks like you. Mostly the nose", he said.
"Really? I don't know how people can notice these things. All I see is wrinkly skin with a face. A very cute face. Nothing can top a birthday gift like this", she smiled.
"That's right. You two now have the same birthday. Now we gotta celebrate twice. More birthday gifts for you", he said.
"Sucks for your wallet", she joked.
He was now on the side of the bed, having a clear view of the baby.
"Wanna hold her?", she asked.
"..I don't know. What if she doesn't like me? What if she starts crying?", he asked.
"You're the uncle, and probably her favorite already. I doubt she'll cry", she said.
Changbin hesitated before carefully carrying the baby. He was a bit worried first but then relaxed as she smiled at him.
"Did you give her a name yet?", he asked, thumb being wrapped by her small hand.
"No. Not yet. I suck at names. I mean, I called my pet goldfish Jerry. Who names their fish Jerry?? I don't want to give her a name that will end up with her being bullied. It'll come up to me", she said.
He nodded and felt the baby's hand tighten around his thumb.
"(Y/n), please don't date assholes anymore. I'm sure she won't want to see you hurt. Neither do I. Focus on her and focus on yourself", he said.
"I know. I've given it a lot of thought. I guess I'm just messed up from being kicked out by my parents. It's stupid and that sounds like an excuse-"
"It's not. You've been through a lot. I was there when you came crying to me about it. That's why I'm here to help. Not because I feel bad but because you're like family to me. My own parents even think of you as a daughter. You have plenty of people that care about you. Always think about that when you're having a bad day", he said.
"Did you call them?", she asked.
"Yeah. They're on their way. My mom almost fainted. She got really excited", he chuckled.
"I bet she's gonna be talking about how badly she wants a grandchild from you. It's the first thing I remember when I first moved in with you guys. She didn't really care how young we were", she chuckled.
"I gagged in disgust. As a joke of course. But they know I wanna get a good career first. It'll happen some day", he said.
(Y/n) watched as Changbin couldn't keep his eyes off of the baby. She can tell he'll become a great father one day and their kids will annoy the heck out of each other. But she wonders if she'll be a great mom. She doesn't have a job and she couldn't keep up with school. But luckily she did graduate.
Then she started thinking about how life will be for her and her daughter. Whether it'll be easy or difficult. She knows she can't always depend on Changbin because she's an adult and has to learn to become independent.
"Did they say when you can take her home?", Changbin asked.
When he didn't hear a response, he looked at (y/n) and noticed she's asleep. So he sat down on the chair and continued to hold the baby, promising himself that he will take care of both of them whether (y/n) likes it or not.
