Bang Chan
You've been in foster homes ever since you were 14. Your relationship with your parents is nonexistent though there was a lot of abuse. You ran away from each foster home, knowing it wouldn't work out. You weren't a person who would commit any violence, that's until the last home you were in.
One of the girls put the blame on you for destroying a very important art piece that was gonna be sold at an auction. You tried to confront the girl but she just got angry and slapped you. Everything turned downhill from there.
You were gonna be sent to juvenile hall and since you were almost eighteen, you might be sent to jail depending on what they say. You were a bit scared since you've never been behind bars before. Then a social worker that was on your case has informed you that a family is willing to take you in until they find something more permanent. You weren't too sure about it but it was either that or juvie.
The social worker lead you towards a grey SUV with tinted windows. You waited a few feet away as a lady came out of the car.
"Mrs. Lee, how are you? This is (y/n)", the social worker said to the lady.
He looked back at you and said,"(Y/n), this is Mrs. Lee. You will be in her care. I expect you to behave. No more getting in trouble."
While Mrs. Lee and the social worker talked about you and your situation, a guy came out from the car. He was around your age. He came around towards the back of the car and leaned against it, examining you from head to toe. Probably judging you from the worn out clothes you were wearing, or maybe the bruises on your face. Then he offered a soft smile.
"I'm Felix. Your name is (y/n), right?", he asked.
You hesitantly nodded. He kept his distance which you found very strange. Mostly other kids at the foster house you are put in are very touchy, and by touchy you mean very annoying.
"Okay (y/n), shall we get going?", Mrs. Lee smiled as Felix opened the door for you.
During the drive, they were talking about what they were having for dinner. Felix looked back and asked what you wanted to eat.
"I'm..not really hungry", you said.
He looked at you for a couple of seconds before sitting back correctly onto his seat. He thought for a while until he asked his mom if a friend could come over. You didn't bother focusing on their conversation . You just rested your head against the window, counting each tree that passed by.
You were now in the bathroom washing up while they made dinner. You stared at yourself in the mirror for a long time before breaking down into tears. You wished you had a normal life with a normal family.
After a few minutes, you washed your face and made sure it looked like you hadn't cried. Once you finished, you headed towards the kitchen where Felix was setting up the table. You sat down on one of the chairs and stared at the plate in front of you. Pasta. Your mom would always make pasta on Friday nights. That was until she started drinking.
"Who's this?"
You looked up to your right and noticed another guy who was much older.
"This is (y/n). She's gonna be staying with us for a while. Remember when I said my mom wanted to foster kids?", Felix said, grabbing a piece of toasted garlic bread.
"Ah really? Well I'm Chan. I'm a close friend of the family. Nice to meet you", he smiled as he placed a piece of garlic bread on your plate.
You couldn't say anything. When he smiled, his dimples would show. And no one ever treated you this way before.
After dinner, Mrs. Lee asked Felix if he can show you to your room. You'd expected him to say no but he said yes. You followed him down the halls. His house was huge. You can easily get lost in it.
"Well here it is. You have your own bathroom. There are extra towels for you and there are brand new toothbrushes under the sink. Make yourself at home", Felix smiled.
"Thanks but I'd rather not. This is nothing like home", you said.
You passed by him and sat down on the bed before taking off your shoes.
"(Y/n), you know we're not bad people. We're not like the others. We actually care. You've been through a lot so we wouldn't do anything to traumatize you", he said.
You glanced down at the ground and waited for him to leave. He said goodnight before leaving you alone.
~~~
"She's a little weird. What happened to her face?",Chan said, jumping onto Felix's bed.
"She's been through some stuff. Hey, do you think you can try to get along with her? She's gonna need more than one friend", Felix said as he pushed him off.
"What kind of stuff?", Chan asked.
~~~
You had just finished taking a shower. Mrs. Lee lent you some pjs that were her daughter's. You sat down on the bed and brought your knees up, hugging them before resting your chin on them.
"Hey."
You glanced up and noticed Chan smiling while entering the room.
"How are you holding up? I mean, sleeping in strangers house, it's not an easy thing to settle in", he said.
"Used to it", you shrugged your shoulders.
"Um, so Felix and I are going to a carnival tomorrow. He's bringing his girlfriend. Do you wanna come?", he asked, softly smiling.
"...why?", you asked.
"Everybody needs a friend right?", he asked, chuckling.
"I don't need anyone to pity me. Especially fake pity", you said.
You did sound a bit harsh but you can't let yourself get attached.
"You know, I get the feeling that you like pushing people away. Well too bad we're not the type to walk away. Goodnight (y/n)", Chan said before leaving the room and closing the door.
You sighed and laid down, hoping to get some sleep.
~~~
A few days pass. The Lee family were really nice to you. Chan kept trying to be your friend. Sometimes he would leave small chocolates on the drawer with a note on the side. You didn't read the notes but you were tempted to.
You were sitting outside on the porch while hugging your knees. It was cold outside but you didn't care.
"Hey, What are you doing out here all alone?"
Chan was walking up the stairs of the porch and sat next to you. You slightly scooted away. At first Chan didn't really know why you would always do that. He thought he was making you uncomfortable so he didn't push it.
"It's cold and you're not wearing a sweater. You'll get sick", he said.
You rolled your eyes and looked the other way. He understood that you didn't want to talk so he stayed silent. You would've expected him to leave and find Felix but he was still sitting down next to you.
"What do you want from me?", you asked.
"To get to know you", he said.
"Why?", you asked.
"Because I find you interesting", he smiled.
You glanced down and had to hide your face with your hair just in case if you were blushing.
"Hey...you know I still have the tickets for the carnival, if you're still willing to go. They don't expire until the end of the week", he said.
You looked at him, his dimples showing as the corner of his lips were raised. He lifted his eyebrow, waiting for an answer.
"Okay. Fine. But no funny business", you said.
"I promise", he smiled, raising his hand.
"..when?", you asked.
"Tonight? They're actually showing fireworks", he said.
"Oh...Kay. I have to ask Mrs. Lee though", you said.
"I'll pick you up around 6:30. Is that okay with you?", he asked.
"Um yeah", you said.
He nodded and smiled again before walking back to his house.
You went inside and asked Mrs. Lee if she had any clothes for you that you can wear since the clothes you had are worn out. She helped you get ready and made you feel pretty. You don't know why. It's not a date.
Chan picked you up exactly at 6:30. He drove carefully so you can be comfortable and made sure he didn't overstep boundaries.
He parked the car near the entrance and opened the door for you. Your eyes widened at all the lights and games and rides. Never in your life have you been to one of these.
"Come on, you choose first", he smiled as he motioned you to walk.
You examined everything. You wanted to get on every ride and play all the games. You searched and noticed one where you shoot basketballs into the hoop. You walked over with Chan following you.He raised his eyebrows and watched as you scored three times.
"Wow, I didn't know you were good at basketball", he said.
"There's a lot of things people don't know about me. And that's because they don't take the time to ask", you said.
While you chose a reward, Chan looked at you as if he felt bad. You grabbed some cat ears and walked back towards him.
"Here, let me put it on you", he said.
He was about to grab it but you pulled away. You stared at him for a while and placed the cat ears on his head. His ears turned red a bit.
You softly smiled at him before continuing to walk. That was the first time he has ever seen you smile...and he liked it.
You got on almost all of the rides and played a few games. He asked if you were hungry but you weren't so both of you walked towards the pier where they'll light up the fireworks. It was nice and all but the loudness from the fireworks caused a bit of anxiety. Chan noticed so he decided it was a good idea to go home.
The wind was blowing hard and it was freezing. Before getting into the car, Chan grabbed an extra sweater from his trunk and put it on you. He went a bit extra and placed the hoodie on your head.
You had a really great time with him. You couldn't stop staring at him. Without thinking, you stood on your tippy toes and quickly kissed his cheek, catching him by surprise.
"Uh s-sorry. I shouldn't have done that. Crap everything was going so well. Why did I have to ruin it??", you whined as you pulled the hoodie to cover your eyes.
Chan smiled cheekily as what you call 'embarrassment' made you look cute. He pulled over his hoodie to cover his eyes like what you did and got closer to you.
"Hey", he whispered.
When you slowly looked up, Chan was a few inches away from you with a smile on his face. Your cheeks turned red and gasped as his hands landed on them. His thumb caressed the outline of your lips. You were expecting him to kiss you but he pulled away. A soft smirk rose from his lips as he noticed your reaction. He grabbed you by the hoodie and pulled you in for a passionate kiss. You were shocked.
After you processed what was going on, you wrapped your arms around his neck while his arms wrapped around your waist. He pulled away but kept a very close distance.
"So much for making friends", you said.
"This is way better", he said.
