Chapter 5: A Bit of Bad Weather

Adrien had never seen it pour like it did that day. The sky was consumed with dark angry clouds and the wind roared with every gust. He pressed his forehead against his window and sighed, listening to the sound of Plagg munching on another piece of Camembert.

"So your date's cancelled then?" muttered Plagg, "Such a shame." He swallowed the rest whole and fell back on Adrien's bed, "So, what now?"

Adrien wasn't too sure. He couldn't abandon Marinette. He'd said he'd be there and that was exactly where he intended to be. He was just going to have to suck it up and run there. Adrien reached up and opened the window, flinching at the cold air that flooded inside his room.

Rain fell inside, drenching his arms and tussled blonde hair. He withdrew his hand and allowed the wind to slam the window shut again.

"No!" Plagg flew under the bed. "I'm not going out in this weather just so you can talk to a girl. No way. Not gonna happen!"

"I made a promise, Plagg." replied Adrien. He sat down on the edge of the bed and Plagg flew up to his face.

He crossed his tiny arms over his chest and glared, "Well whose dumb idea was that? Oh, right! Not mine!" Adrien reached up to grab him, but Plagg flew higher and moved over to Adrien's desk. A small collection of the Valentine's Day cards he'd kept sat neatly on a pile by his computer screen.

"I mean look at this." Plagg huffed and sifted through the cards, throwing them on the floor. "Blondie, Glasses..." He stopped at one. A pink heart shaped card with the answer to his poem. It was never signed, but Adrien always hoped it was from Ladybug.

Plagg brought it over to Adrien and dropped it distastefully in his lap. "Seriously, Kid. You could pick any girl in Paris and you choose the ones that need me."

Adrien glared at his kwami. "Quit whining, Plagg. You've probably never had a single thought that wasn't about cheese."

"Why would I? Anything else is a waste of time. And when you're over five thousand years old you learn to appreciate it."

Adrien glanced back out the window. The storm was getting worse and Natalie would check up on him soon for his piano lessons. If he wanted to go to Marinette's and make it back in time, he had to leave now.

"I'll give you more when we get back if you come with me now."

"No." snapped Plagg.

"Suit yourself." Adrien stood up from the bed and raised his fist in the air. "Plagg –,"

"You don't know what you're doing, Kid."

"–Claws out!" Plagg was sucked back into the ring and in a flash of green light Adrien became Chat Noir. He walked over the window and gently pried it open, feeling the uncomfortable sting of winter against his cheeks. He jumped out before he could change his mind and vaulted from building to building until he reached his balcony.

He somersaulted near the trapdoor and crouched down against her wall. He crept over and knocked against the glass. He would've done it more lightly, but he could barely hear himself think and the roar of the wind was hurting his sensitive ears.

The trapdoor swung open and he was yanked inside.

Chat lost his balance and fell face-first against Marinette's pink sheets. He heard the door slam shut above him and he groaned as he pushed himself up. He turned his head to the side and saw Marinette's shocked face staring down at him.

"Chat, what are you doing here?" She pursed her lips and frowned, "Wait here."

She hurried down the steps towards her desk and disappeared down another trapdoor in her floor. Water dripped off Chat's leather suit, the cold just barely seeping through, and he shivered. He ran his clawed hand through his hair and breathed in deeply.

Her room smelled sweet, like vanilla and strawberries. Chat stood up from the bed and jumped over the railing onto the floor. He shook the water drops from his hair and sauntered to her chaise a few feet away. He sat down on the edge, but froze when he heard the trapdoor open again.

Marinette hurried up, dropping the door shut behind her and threw a towel over his head. "What were you thinking, Chat? You could catch your death out there. And then what?" She knelt in front of him and dried his hair, paying careful attention to his leather ears.

"Honestly, who else would protect Paris while you're sick." she muttered. Chat grinned devilishly and marveled at the way her movements faltered. The towel fell off his head onto the chaise beside him.

"Ladybug?" he guessed. Marinette withdrew her hands from him and instead of the slap or glare he'd expected, she laughed.

Marinette stumbled back and sat crossed legged on the floor, hosing herself with laughter. "Sorry, Chat." she gasped, "But I can't –I just can't." Her eyes shut tightly as she laughed and Chat Noir flushed bright red, extremely grateful for the cover of the mask.

"What?" he asked. She didn't reply and Chat crossed his arms over his chest. "Marinette, come on already. What is it?" She calmed down, face flushed and he glared at her, flattening his ears against his head.

"Your hair." she breathed. She reached up and tangled her fingers through it, combing it.

Her face was only inches from his and he could clearly make out the cute freckles on her delicate skin and the depth of her eyes. They were so focused on her handiwork he wasn't even sure if she knew the effect she was having on him. His ears burned and his suit started feeling unbearably hot.

"There..." she smiled, "Much better." Marinette pulled her hand back and sat beside him on the chaise. "So why did you come and risk your health to see me?"

Chat gestured to her ankle and her smile faded. "I told you I'm fine, Chat. There's no reason to worry about me."

"I just can't help myself." he replied, scratching the back of his neck nervously. How could he possibly explain to her how much he cared? She was his friend, his first real friend, but she could never know that. Not as long as he was Chat Noir. "You know how curious we cats can be."

Marinette rolled her eyes and nudged his boot with her shoe. "I don't suppose this has anything to do with the treats I promised you?" Chat's eyes widened. How could he have forgotten that?

"Yes!" He jumped up from the sofa and clasped his hands together. "This kitty cat could use some sugar." He winked at her and inched closer to Marinette, but she shoved him away.

"I get it, Chat." She walked back towards her trapdoor and asked, "Any requests? You only get one."

Chat Noir tapped his claw against his chin and smirked, "Anything the princess enjoys, I will too." She disappeared downstairs without another word and Chat smiled to himself. He hadn't really eaten anything in the last couple hours and from what he'd heard from Nino, Marinette was an amazing baker.

He stretched his legs and strolled towards her desk. The tape marks against her pale pink walls still bothered him. He couldn't help but wonder what they were. His eyes fell on a small pink box beside her bookshelf and he reached out for it.

The trapdoor opened behind him and Chat withdrew his hand. "I have strawberry and mint." said Marinette. She closed the trapdoor behind her and stepped up to him with a plate of macaroons in hand.

Chat took one and bowed to her, "Why thank you, Princess." He popped one in his mouth and burst of flavor made his eyes widen. Marinette giggled at him.

"Like it?" she asked.

"Like it?" he echoed, "I love it." He grabbed three more off the plate and started shoving them into his mouth. Nothing in Gabriel Agreste's kitchen came anywhere close to this. "You're amazing, Marinette." He saw her blush and couldn't help but smile.

She was completely in her element, comfortable and calm. It was nice to see this side of her. Something he never saw as Adrien.

Chat gestured to her walls and asked, "Did you have any pictures here?"

Marinette tensed. "Just some designs I used for inspiration." she replied.

"Gabriel Agreste?" he asked. Marinette nodded, blushing and Chat felt a sense of pride rush through him. He ate another macaroon and moaned at the flavor in his mouth. "Do you think you can teach me how to make these?"

"I don't know." she mumbled, "It's sort of a Dupen-cheng family secret. You'll have to be pretty slick if you wanna get the recipe."

"Oh, I can be slick, Purrincess." He took the plate from her and tilted his head down to hers. "I am, after all, the Chat Noir." Marinette bobbed him on the nose and lightly pushed him away.

"I guess you are, Kitty."

Marinette dragged her feet out the classroom and stretched. Her back clicked in place, but her limbs still felt sore and stiff. She'd stayed up all night studying with Chat Noir who, surprisingly, knew a lot about chemistry. And it actually went pretty well.

Alya bounded up behind her with Nino, groaning and running her hands down her face. "I can't believe I didn't think to study that section. It was so obvious."

"So uncool." muttered Nino. Adrien came out the class, but unlike everyone else, he looked victorious. His hair was neatly brushed back and his head was held high. His vivid green eyes fell on Marinette and her whole body stiffened.

He approached them. "Sup guys. How'd you find the test?"

Nino glared at him and Alya crossed her arms over her chest. "I studied the wrong chapter. How do you think it went?" she snapped.

Adrien flinched back and glanced over to Marinette, frowning. "And you, Marinette?"

Her voice lodged in her throat. "It –It was, uh...I did test –testing. I mean –!" Marinette face palmed and sighed, "This is so embarrassing..."

Adrien glanced between them and his triumphant grin faltered. "Was I the only one who found it, okay?"

Alya scowled and Marinette cleared her throat. "It was –wasn't that b –bad." she stammered. Adrien's gorgeous gaze fell back on her and she melted. His blonde hair practically glowed against his tanned skin, bringing out the full marvel of his eyes. It was like looking at a masterpiece.

"That's a relief." he sighed. Marinette blushed and flinched when Alya's arm fell around her shoulders. "Well, now that that's over what do you guys say to a movie? I hear there's a really cool one showing this afternoon."

Adrien's eyes lit up and Marinette bit back a giggle. He was just so cute. Nino moved his headphones off his head and grinned, "Sounds cool. I'm in." He glanced at Adrien, "And you Bro?"

He scratched the back of his neck and nodded, "Yeah, fencing was cancelled this afternoon and I got nothing else planned. It sounds awesome."

"It's a date then." replied Alya. She sent Marinette a wink as the boys walked away, but Marinette couldn't concentrate. She couldn't hear anything besides her rapid heartbeat. A date with Adrien Agreste...

She couldn't wait.

I keep watching Miraculous Ladybug reruns and I just can't help it! They're so cute together, especially during the Animan episode where Nino had a crush on Marinette. XD Gets me every-time.

I hope really you enjoyed this chapter!❤ Don't forget to vote or comment.
