to say the least, lucy hated heights. so she told him.
"i'm gonna die!" she screamed as they swung through the city on peter's apparently indestructible webs. "you suck, peter parker!"
the wind whipped her hair around, muting everything around her. but when peter replied, she could feel his lips against his ear, the puff of hot breath on her skin as he said, "don't worry, we're fine! this isn't even the best part!"
terrified by what he meant by that, lucy squeezed her arms tighter around his middle, feeling his muscles tense beneath her touch. if she'd been in any other place than this, maybe she would have grinned at the reaction. she had an effect on him, but she couldn't tell what.
"we're almost there!" she heard peter's voice next to her ear again, and nodded swiftly, wanting the horror of a ride to be over with as soon as possible. her eyes were shut so tightly she saw stars in the blackness of her vision, and the swinging, it never stopped...
she stopped moving. they were standing still. but she was afraid to shift, to even move any part of her lest she fell.
"you've got a killer grip, luce, are you sure you're not related to the hulk?" peter teased her; she could hear the smirk in his voice.
she shook her head, her face nestled in his chest.
"hey," peter's voice was soft, and he took her face in his hands, shifting it up so she faced him. "it's okay. open your eyes." after a moment of no response, he coaxed her by rubbing his thumbs along her cheeks, the gentle movement making her eyes flutter open.
she was captured by his eyes, his mask having been taken off seconds before. they were wild, full of adventure and mischief and...something she couldn't decipher. nervousness?
"you'd better have a good reason for bringing me up here, parker," she scolded him, but her voice came out breathy, her fear taking over her body.
"it's good," he reassured her, and tipped his head to the side, signaling her to look. when she did, she felt her stomach drop.
they were standing on top of a bridge. not just on the bridge, but on the top, overlooking the whole city. the buildings were tall, but she could see over the tops of them, the sun unblocked and warming her face.
"this is..." she trailed off and kept staring at the open space around her.
"awesome, right?" peter's smile was wide.
"why'd you do this, pete?" lucy looked back at him.
he ducked his head. "um...i was wondering..."
"what?"
"you wouldn't happen to have a date to homecoming, would you?" peter asked, flitting his eyes up to hers without moving his chin up.
"no..." she trailed off, and a blush began to form on her cheeks.
"well, do you want to maybe...go with me?"
lucy smiled. "yeah, petey, that'd be nice." she leaned up and pecked him on the cheek. "just promise we'll take a car to the dance, not your webs."
he blushed, a small shy smile on his lips. "promise."
she grinned again and wrapped her arms around his middle. "great. now get me down before i fall, or my mom notices i'm gone."
"roger that, luce," he replied, and held her close with one hand while the other arranged their ride home.
[a/n: ALERT! i have planned this book until the end, and may i say...i'm so proud of this story(wow i'm surprised)! it took me a long time to get back into writing, but this is the one that did it. the chapters are more descriptive than what i started out, and now i have to remind myself that this is a dialogue-based fic instead of a full story, haha. anyway, hope you enjoyed! please vote!]
