Chapter 28: The Monster And The Superhero

El's actions actually had some serious consequences. A whole team of EMT showed up to see if Angela was still functioning normally, which she was. She was crying about her head and nose and how she couldn't breathe. Everyone was staring at her, including me, Will and Mike. I was still holding Will's hand as he got scared a bit at the sight of all the blood.

I don't know why, El was completely right and justified to do this, but just the sight of the violence kinda stung. Maybe she should've just gotten revenge in another way, but maybe now Angela got the message.

I looked at El who was sitting at a table, she was angry, but also crying. It looked like as if she was counting to ten just to like not break out and kill Angela. After a while everyone got sent home, so we followed Argyle and Jonathan who showed up after the incident in case I forgot to mention it. We got in Argyle's van and drove back home.

"I know this may be upsetting and shit, but that future prom queen is gonna be fine." Argyle said to El on our way back. "It's just like, rubber wheels," he continued. "Plastic," Jonathan then corrected. "Not like hard plastic, just the soft kind," Jonathan continued. "But you ever wonder why the wheels aren't wood man?" Argyle then asked. "It's so people don't get hurt when they get shmacked!" Argyle explained.

"They smoked weed," Will said to me. I turned to him. I could still see him being a bit scared. "That's why they're just, saying stuff," he explained. "Will," I then said. He looked me right in the eyes where I saw more than just the bit of fear. "Did you, enjoy your birthday even though I forgot and the uh, El incident?" I asked. Will looked down. "I guess so, I mean, I'm used to being left out and forgotten and the continuously third-wheeling, but you went out of your way and tried so hard to set things right," he said. "I can forgive you for forgetting, as I still had fun today, and it was just like old times," he continued.

'Hey, (y/n) thanks for the great day, see you tomorrow at school?' Will said. Which was after we left the cinema together. Our day going to the cinema was probably what he meant with old times.

He still seemed sad though. "Hey," I said as I grabbed his chin and turned his face towards me. "I still love you," I said. I moved my head closer to his and kissed him. "I love you too," Will said between the kisses.

"Jonathan, Jonathan, there's gay dudes kissing in my van, what should I do?" Argyle asked as he saw us kissing. "Just keep driving," Jonathan said. "Alright man, I got my eyes on the road and totally not on the two dudes kissing," Argyle continued. I had to stop kissing just to laugh at Argyle. Then Will changed his position a bit so he could comfortably lie down onto my shoulder.

Will almost fell asleep like that, but sadly we made it to their home, so dinner time was first. And when we entered, Joyce apparently also had a surprise visitor. It was Murray, I don't even remember if I have ever mentioned him before, but here he was, making risotto.

"Well, well! Aren't you lot a sight for sore eyes, huh?" he said. "Hey, Murray," Jonathan said. "You kids like risotto?" Murray asked. "Yeah," Jonathan replied as he ran to the table to sit down. Argyle quickly followed him. Will grabbed my hand and pulled me to one side of the table to sit down together.

Murray's risotto was, edible, I don't know, never eaten it before so I guess it was nice? I was totally distracted by my oh so amazing opinion making skills that I didn't even hear why Murray was here in the first place. Until Will asked Joyce something.

"Business trip? What business trip?" he asked. "Oh my gosh, I almost forgot to tell you guys, this thing came up at work last minute and it turns out I have to go to a conference tomorrow. In Alaska," Joyce explained. "Whatever happened to friends don't lie?" I whispered to myself as I saw straight through the bullcrap Joyce was spreading. Meanwhile Mike and Will were all like "Alaska!? Tomorrow?!"

"So do eskimo's like still live in igloos?" Argyle then asked Murray. "Or, uh, are they, like, fully-blown, like, living in the... in the suburbs now?" Before anyone could answer Joyce put Jonathan in charge of us. He didn't fully comprehend though. "Wait, you're going to Alaska?" he asked. And then the two started ranting about today and the vicious rollerskate attack. "But the girl is going to be fine," Argyle said. "She didn't look fine," Mike then said. I looked over at Mike and saw El angrily dropping her cutlery and leaving the dinner table. "Mike, oh my god, u can keep some things to yourself," I said.

"Okay I sense some tension," Murray started. "Is it the risotto?" he asked. "No, the risotto is amazing," Jonathan said. "Maybe, I don't know," I meanwhile said, but no one heard cause of Jonathan.

After dinner I followed Will to his room as that was going to be the place where I would sleep. On the floor was a mattress with a pillow and a blanket. It was right next to his own bed though so I wouldn't be too far away. Will sat down on his bed. I sat down on the mattress. "So what is life like nowadays in Hawkins?" Will asked. "Not the same without you and El," I said. "Like I said, Max won't talk to anyone, and Lucas, he is trying to get us to become popular," I explained. "What, how?" Will asked while starting to laugh a bit. "By joining the basketball team," I said. "Oh right, because you can get your friends popular if you are on the basketball team," Will said while laughing. "But yesterday he had his championship game and he missed the ending of Eddie's D&D campaign," I explained. "That's a stupid decision to make," Will said. "Yeah, and the Mike and Dustin dragged me to Eddie to ask him to move his game," I said. "Wait, Eddie "the freak" Munson?" Will asked. "Yeah, he runs The Hellfire Club," I explained. "Hawkins High is really something else," he said and laughed again. I smiled too. I hadn't hear him laugh in forever.

I stood up and sat down next to him. "I missed you," I said. Will smiled and then went in for the kiss. And we kissed for a while. Then he backed off. "(y/n), please go brush your teeth, I can still taste the risotto," he said while laughing. "I thought you liked the risotto," I said as I stood up. "Yes I did, but not right now," he said. I kissed him on the cheek. "Now there's risotto on your cheek," I said as I then proceeded to make my way to the bathroom. There I met with El. She still seemed angry.

"Hey, El," I said. She didn't respond but did the tiniest and quickest smile I have ever seen. "Are you okay?" I asked her. "I think, Mike was mean," she said. I grabbed my toothbrush and put some toothpaste on it. "Hey, if it helps anything, I think that what you did out there, with Angela, she deserved that, she had that coming," I said. "Really? You don't think I went a little too far?" she asked. "Well, to be fair, it was a bit scary to see you like that, and it did scare me to see the blood and all, but in my mind, you did the right thing." I said. "Thank you, for trying to help me back there," she said. "No problem," I said as I started brushing my teeth.

When I finished I returned to Will's room where he laid in his bed ready to go to sleep. I hopped into mine and Will turned his light off. I fell asleep very quickly. But that wasn't a good thing as I once again had a nightmare. I saw Nine again and then a dark road in the middle of the woods. A car came racing towards me. I braced for impact but it got out of the way just in time and crashed into a tree where the car got on fire. I heard someone screaming as someone else crawled out of the car. Then the car exploded. The other boy, that came crawling out of the car then fell into a hole. I quickly ran over and saw him backed against the wall of the hole. "Hello?! Can you hear me?!" I yelled but he didn't react. Then I heard footsteps, heavy, slimy wet footsteps, kinda like a Demogorgon, or the whole meat monster Mind Flayer from Starcourt. But this wasn't a Demogorgon, this was something I had never seen before. "Your suffering, is almost at an end," I heard the monster say as then everything faded away again. Then I saw just the boy as he flew up and all of his bones started breaking. Just like that Chrissy girl. Then it got dark and quiet. I heard the monster walking again.

"I can see you," he said right as I woke up. I was sweating, and afraid, what was happening? It was dark, I don't know how much time had passed.

Will was also awake as he asked me: "Are you okay?" I almost started crying but realized I had already done that way too many times and it actually started to annoy people, so I held back the tears as I climbed into Will's bed. I hugged him tight with my head against his chest. "It's okay, I'm right here," he said as he kissed me on my head. I calmed down again. I felt safe with Will. This showed me again that I still loved him. I looked at him. His beautiful eyes. I started kissing him. He kissed back. "Hey, I'd love to kiss you all night," Will then said between a few kisses. "But shouldn't we try to get some sleep?" he suggested. "You're probably right," I said.

How do I put this, well, uh, we did not fall asleep immediately... But I'm just gonna skip to the next morning.

For breakfast I had Eggo's. Because I knew El loved those, I also made some for her. But she didn't show up.

"Hey guys, there is a 4.00 p.m. showing of Police Academy 3." Jonathan said. "Could be fun," Jonathan said. "Maybe we just stay home today," Will suggested. "What is this, you guys just gonna mope around all break?" Jonathan asked. "No one's moping, it's just the movie is supposed to suck," Will responded. Mike then stood up and grabbed the plate of Eggo's I had made for El and walked away to presumably her room. Will and I finished our breakfast and moved to the couch to watch some weird Ewok show Will apparently always watches ever since they got to California. He said I would like it too.

Then the doorbell rang. "Ten bucks says mom forgot something," Will said to Jonathan. Jonathan chuckled as he got up and walked to the door. "Hi, does Jane Hopper live here?" I heard at the door. "Uh, what is this about," I heard Jonathan respond. "Is Jane's father or mother around?" the people at the door continued. I decided to go have a look who these people where as I also pulled Will up from the couch to the door. El also came down the stairs. The people that rang the doorbell were cops. "You may or may not be aware of an incident involving Jane at the Rink-O-Mania." "That was an accident," Will said. "A warrant says otherwise," the cop replied. "A warrant, the girl got a warrant?!" I asked. "That's crazy, that doesn't need to happen!" I said. But the cops didn't respond as El got off the stairs and one of the cops noticed her.

El was arrested. So of course we had to follow her down to the police station where she was being processed. And me, Mike, Will and Jonathan followed and then had to wait there.

Eventually it took Jonathan too long and he walked over to the front desk to ask about El. Me, Mike and Will followed.

"It looks like she is still being processed," the lady told him. "Okay. So uh, what does that mean exactly?" Jonathan asked. "They're putting her in the system, after she'll be transferred to juvenile hall." she explained. "What?" Will asked. "You're gonna put her in jail?" Mike asked. "A detention hall for juveniles," the lady corrected him. "Ma'am that's literally jail," I said. "Hey, look, is there any chance we can just see her?" Jonathan asked. "Are you a parent or guardian?" the lady asked. "We're her brothers, her family," Will said. "That's not enough, you have to be a parent or legal guardian," the lady said. "That's the law, and you can't change it by complaining to me, you want to see Jane? Find your mother," she said.

I almost flipped but luckily we went outside where I could calm down. Although Mike saw a van and ran towards the street. I realized El was probably inside that van. Mike almost managed to stop it but he missed the van as it drove off.

Why did I have to give my powers away, I could've done something, I could've stopped the van. That is exactly what I told Will once we got back home. Jonathan was on the phone with someone and Mike was just sitting there, knowing his girlfriend was going to jail. "I feel bad," I said. "Why?" Will asked. "I told her that I supported her action of shmacking Angela with that rollerskate, and now she got arrested for it," I said. "It's okay, we'll find her once mom lands in Alaska, that's the next right thing we can do," Will said. He grabbed my hand and started rubbing his thumb over my hand to calm me down. Which worked. It always worked. It was Will. And this moment once again made me realize that I still loved him. I still loved him.
