Chapter 10: MADMAX Part 2

And now where the real story started. It was late October when we decided to go to the arcade, again.

Yes, Dustin was the best player of us all. But I didn't mind, as long as Will was happy, I was too. We gathered in front of the arcade. Joyce dropped Will of but had to go through all their rules again.

'Yes mom I get it,' he smiled.

'Have fun sweetie!' she said.

Then she turned her car and drove away. The five of us went inside. There Dustin played a video game. He sucked at it and still didn't beat Lucas his high score.

'Hey Dustin, your high score has been broken on one of your game,' said Keith, he worked at the arcade, he was a motherf... nevermind.

We ran to the two best games of Dustin. The first one we checked was Dig-Dug. And there it was. Dustin his Dig-Dug score has been beaten by someone called Madmax.

'Shit, now I have to do this all over again!' Dustin said angry.

While Mike, Dustin and Lucas were fighting over the Dig-Dug score I noticed that Will was walking outside. I went outside.

'Will, is everything okay?' I asked. He startled.

'Yes, totally,' he said and smiled.

There was something not right, cause otherwise, he wouldn't have startled when I asked him if everything was alright. But I decided to leave it.

'Come inside, let's see if Dustin is able to beat the Dig-Dug score,' I said. He nodded and together we walked back inside.

The next day was a Monday, school started again. Me and Will always biked together to school and we would later be joined by Dustin.

When we arrived at school we parked our bikes and ran to the classroom. We were just in time. The five of us sat down at our places.

'Good morning class,' Mr. Clarke started.

'Today we have a new student who will join us on our science adventure.'

For a teacher, Mr. Clarke was very enthusiastic which made his lessons the best. He walked outside and took a girl with him back into the classroom. The girl had long orange hair and light blue eyes.

'Let me introduce you guys to Maxine Mayfield!' he said.

'It Max,' she said.

'Sorry?' Mr. Clarke didn't listen of course.

'No one calls me Maxine, it's Max,' she said again.

'Well then, go to your seat,' Mr. Clarke said. Then I realized something.

Was Maxine, sorry, Max maybe Madmax? I looked at the boys. They seemed to realize that too. After school, we gathered at the main entrance.

'Do you guys think that Max is Madmax?' Dustin asked. Everyone agreed except for Mike.

'Why, do you know another Max who lives in this town?' Dustin asked.

'No but, there probably is though,' Mike said.

'Well, why should we care?' I asked.

'Because she has defeated my Dig-Dug score and I need to know how to beat her!' Dustin said.

'Okay, okay,' I said. Will was again very silent. There was definitely something wrong. But what though?

'Is something wrong?' I asked.

'No,' Will said.

'Don't lie,' I said.

'Okay,' he said and grabbed a stencil. On the stencil was Will with red crosses through his eyes labeled: Zombie-Boy. He smiled nervously. I smiled.

'Don't listen to it, we are here to support you, it's better with you than without you,' I said.

'Thanks,' he smiled. I felt our connection growing.

'Guys look!' Dustin yelled.

Max came outside and started skating around. We ran to a wall and hid behind it. Dustin, Mike and Lucas started spying on her.

Will and I stood next to them but we couldn't see Max so we just stood there.

'Hey, Will, you know you can talk to me at any moment,' I said.

'Yeah but, it's just, sometimes I rather don't, I don't want to make you worry about me,' he said.

'Movement!' Dustin said. Me and Will looked around the corner too.

'She threw something in the garbage can!' Lucas said.

'Wait, you guys aren't going…' I said but they already ran to the garbage can.

'Well, we can't stay behind,' Will said. I nodded and we ran to the garbage can. Dustin had found a note inside.

'Stop spying on me creeps,' he read.

'Shit, she knows about us,' Lucas said.

'Well, like I said, why should we care?' I said.

'I need to know how she defeated my Dig-Dug score!' Dustin said angry.

'Okay relax, I am going home, I do not want to be a part of "the creeps",' I said. Will laughed. I smiled. Mike looked at me.

'Not now,' his eyes said. I walked away. But I got stopped by Mike.

'You want to stay over tonight?' He asked.

'Yeah, I would love to,' I said. We walked to our bikes and biked to Mike's house.

Since the disappearance of Eleven Mike was obsessed with calling her through the walkie-talkie. When I came downstairs he sat on the couch with his walkie-talkie.

'This is day 352, I know, this is the dumbest idea ever, that is why I am doing this for 352 days now, I am still okay, but are you, please, let me know when you're okay?' He hung up. I sat next to him. Tears started forming in his eyes. He fell to me. I put my arm around him.

'Hey, Eleven is always here,' I said.

'No, she isn't,' Mike said.

'Yes, she is, in your heart,' I said.

'You love Will, you lost him and got him back, but will I get her back?' he asked.

I didn't want to answer. That is because I knew the answer. I went back inside my head.

'Eleven?' I asked. Then I heard a voice. The voice of Eleven! She was alive! I returned to the real world. I had to tell Mike. But I decided not to. He should wait to the perfect moment.
