Chapter 7: The Bathtub

NO ONE'S POV:

(The camera pans over a still unconscious Y/N, laying face down on the floor. The wounds on his back seem to be healing. Cut to Steve, Carol, & Tommy in front of Fair Mart.)

Tommy: Hey.

(He hands Steve some aspirin & a bottle of Coke.)

Tommy: You owe me $1.20. Don't worry, he'll need more than aspirin when we're done with him.

Carol: Yeah, if the creep ever gets out. The cops should just lock him up forever. Did you see the look on his face?

Steve: [groans]

Carol: Oh.

(She softly punches Tommy.)

Tommy: [chuckles] He probably had that same look whenever he killed his brother, right?

Carol: Oh, God, I just got an image of him making that face while he and Nancy are screwing.

Tommy: [chuckles]

Steve: Carol, for once in your life, shut your damn mouth!

Carol: What?

Tommy: Hey, what's your problem, man?

Steve: You're both assholes. That's my problem.

Tommy: Are you serious right now, man?

Steve: Yeah, I'm serious. You shouldn't have done that.

Tommy: Done what?

Steve: You know what.

Tommy: You mean call her out for what she really is? Oh, that's funny, because I don't remember you asking me to stop.

Steve: I should've put that spray paint right down your throat.

Carol: What the hell, Steve?

Steve: You know, neither of you ever cared about her. You never even liked her, because she's not miserable like you two. (Y/N) was right about you two. He would've talked me out of this like a real friend would do. Nancy and him actually care about people.

Carol: The slut with a heart of gold.

Steve: I told you to watch your mouth!

(Tommy pushes Steve.)

Tommy: Hey! I don't know what's gotten into you, man, but you don't talk to her that way.

Steve: Get out of my face.

Tommy: Or what? You gonna fight me now, too? Huh? You gonna fight me now, too? Because you couldn't take Jonathan Byers...and your pal (Y/N) O'Connell ain't here to save you so I wouldn't recommend that.

(Steve enters his car.)

Tommy: That's right. Run away, Stevie boy!

(Steve starts to drive off.)

Tommy: Run away! Just like you always do. That Nancy's turning you into a little pussy!

(The tires on Steve's car screech as he turns on the road.)

Tommy: That's right, Harrington, run away! Run away! [scoffs]

(Cut to a still face down Y/N.)

(Y/N): [groans]

*KNOCK*

(Someone's knocking at his door.)

*KNOCK*

(Y/N): [muffled] Go away.

*KNOCK*

(Y/N): [muffled] No one's...no one's home.

(The knocking continues as he picks himself up.)

(Y/N): [sighs] All right.

(He walks towards the door as knocking continues.)

(Y/N): I'm coming! Jeez. Don't get your panties in a bunch.

(He opens his door to see it's Steve.)

(Y/N): Steve?

Steve: Hey, (Y/N).

(He rubs his eyes & gets a better look at his friend's face.)

(Y/N): Who did that to you?

Steve: Did what? Oh, you mean my face.

(Y/N): Yeah, man.

Steve: This is just a highlight of the past couple of days I've had.

(Y/N): Sorry to hear that. Wanna come inside and tell me all about it?

Steve: Please.

(He lets Steve in & he closes the door behind him. As Steve goes to follow Y/N, he looks at his back.)

Steve: What happened to you?

(Y/N): Nothing...?

Steve: Your back.

(Y/N): My back?

(Y/N): Oh! Uh, I fought a bear.

Steve: You fought a bear?

(Y/N): Yes.

Steve: You can tell me the truth later.

(He sits on the couch.)

Steve: Ready?

(Y/N): Fill me in.

(Steve tells Y/N everything that's happened the past couple of days.)

(Y/N): Wow.

Steve: Yeah.

(Y/N): That's a lot to unpack.

Steve: I know.

(Y/N): All right. You thought Nancy was cheating on you with me? Me and Nancy? [chuckles] That's crazy. Especially since she's your mate.

Steve: Mate? Can you blame me? You and her did leave together literally before the game started.

(Y/N): I don't blame you. That's not a good look. Sorry about that.

Steve: It's okay.

(Y/N): Moving on, then you thought she was cheating on you with Jonathan Byers?

Steve: Yes, I saw them in her room together.

(Y/N): I probably would've thought the same.

Steve: Right! [sighs] I should've talked to Nancy about it.

(Y/N): Instead of telling Tommy, Carol, and Nicole? Definitely. Or tell me about it.

Steve: I would've but you were too busy fighting a bear.

(Y/N): You should see the bear. You'd still be pretty if I was there spray painting with you guys.

Steve: Ha. Listen, (Y/N). You're the best guy I know. My best friend. I...I need your help to make this right.

(Y/N gets up & walks into his room.)

Steve: Are you going to help me?

(Y/N): [yells] Of course I am! I'm putting on a shirt!

(He walks out of his room.)

(Y/N): Let's go.

Steve: Where are we going?

(Y/N): To make things right. You're driving.

(Cut to the movie theater where some employees are trying to scrub off the spray paint.)

Steve: Need a hand?

(The employee looks down to see Steve & Y/N.)

Employee: Did you boys have something to do with this?

(Y/N): Me? No, no.

Steve: I just...I wanna help.

(The employee climbs down the ladder.)

Employee: All yours.

(He hands Steve a rag. Steve climbs up the ladder & starts scrubbing away the spray paint.)

Steve: You gonna climb your ass up here and help me?

(Y/N): Nah, I'm good
