Jonathan Byers x Reader
This One-Shot takes place during the week Will was missing, when Jonathan hears screaming while taking pictures in the woods.
Y/N is Your Name
H/C is hair colour
F/C is Favourite Colour
"Y/N?!" You heard Jonathan, your best friend, call. "Over here!" You call, coming or from behind a tree, gripping your F/C camera. Jonathan and you were in the woods, taking photos.
"Y/N, please don't go out of eyeshot." Jonathan sighed, gripping his camera in one hand, the other hand running through his hair.
You instantly felt bad. Jonathan had lost his brother a few days ago. He couldn't loose you too. "Sorry.." you apologized.
Jonathan had been your best friend since you met each other in middle school. You had just moved to Hawkins from Edmonton, Canada. You had moved for two reasons. One, your dad's work transferred him. Second, you had been bullied for a majority of your elementary years.
When you first transferred to Hawkins Middle School, the only person who talked to you was Jonathan, due to the fact you both had an interest in photography. However, even back then, Steve wasn't nice to Jonathan, and was urged on by Tommy and Carol.
The first day you saw Jonathan get picked on, you froze and hid around the corner, bad memories flooding back from your elementary years. However, the instant Steve, Tommy and Carol left, you had ran to his side.
At first, Jonathan was mad you didn't help him, but when you explained why, he understood completely. From that day forth, whenever Steve picked on Jonathan, you were always there to whisper calming messages into his ear, calming Jonathan down and occasionally sassing Steve and his friends.
Jonathan gave you a small smile and looked around the forest, searching for a good shot.
Suddenly, the two of you heard a loud scream. Jonathan and you exchanged looks. Nothing needed to be said. Both of you ran towards the direction of the scream as fast as you could.
Jonathan was only a little faster than you were, so he beat you to the skirts of the forest. He sighed, running a hand through his hair.
You gazed over Jonathan's shoulder to see what was there, and you sighed along with him.
Tommy, one of Steve's friends, was pretending to throw his girlfriend Carol into the pool. "Tommy! Put me down!" Carol shrieked. Tommy laughed and put her down next to him. She hit his shoulder, and that was it.
You looked around at the forest around you, still trying to find a good nature shot, until you heard the SPLASH sound of somebody falling into the pool. You focused your attention there instead.
Tommy had pushed Carol into the pool, and he had jumped in with her, with Nancy and Steve right behind.
You noticed Jonathan next to you readying his camera for a photo. You watched silently as Jonathan took several photos of the unknowing teens.
"Jonathan, I don't think you should be taking those.." you say, hesitantly. Jonathan looked at you.
"Why Y/N?"
Sighing at Jonathan's arrogance, you say, "This is basically stalking, Jonathan! You could get arrested if anyone finds the photos." You warn him.
Jonathan sighed deeply, running a hand over the smoothness of his camera. You knew his camera was his prized possession. He almost never let it out of his sight, and he usually never let anyone touch it.
Jonathan remains silent as all of the teens get out of the pool and and race inside.
"You're right." Jonathan says, finally. It's been at least five minutes. You sigh in relief and turn around, when you hear the snapping sound of a camera.
"Jonathan? I thought you agreed no more photos!" You say slightly frustrated, turning back around.
"I know..but look at this shot." Jonathan begs you. You roll your eyes and go back over to him to see. In the windowsill, Nancy is leaning on the window frame with her arms crossed.
She definitely was thinking some thoughts she would never say. "I guess it is a good shot." You admit, looking over at Jonathan.
Jonathan had a small smile on his face. "Yeah."
You didn't know why, but a slight twinge of jealously surfaced. Why was he so happy taking stalker-ish photos of Nancy, who has a boyfriend? No, you think, shaking your head, I'm not jealous. Even though recently you had been wondering about your feelings for Jonathan. What was he to you? A friend or more?
You hear another snapping sound of Jonathan's camera, which snapped you from your thoughts. "Jonathan!" You hiss angrily. Jonathan turns to you, a look of surprise on his face. "What?"
"Do you want to go to jail?" You hiss at him. You didn't want him to go to jail over something as small as this.
Let's just say you heard some bad rumours about the Chief of Police.
Jonathan stared at you, disbelief in his eyes. "Y/N I know what I'm doing! Stay out of it." He snaps at you in a quiet tone.
Jonathan has never been rude to you, even when you're rude to him. Jonathan just doesn't get mad easily. Whenever he was mad, you tended to get a bit frightened.
Your surprise must show on your face because Jonathan immediately softens.
"I'm sorry Y/N." Jonathan whispers in your ear, pulling you into a hug.
You return the hug, and your earlier thoughts returned. Friend? Or more?
You release the hug, staring into Jonathan's eyes. "So. What photo did you take that was so important?" You ask, rolling your eyes, playfully.
Jonathan turned around, and frowned. "She's gone."
You felt confused. "Who?"
"Barb was sitting on the diving board but she's gone now... trust me it was a good photo."
You found it a little odd that Barb had vanished in the short amount of time you had talked to Jonathan, but shrugged it off and turned around.
You started walking, hearing Jonathan's footsteps behind you. Suddenly, you feel a shiver go down your spine as a light flickers behind you and you can hear the quiet sputtering of a living human.
Something touches your shoulder and you scream, smacking whatever touched you. Jonathan yelped in pain and clutched his hand.
"I'm sorry." You apologized. "I'm just scared." You say, honestly.
"Well we can't have that can we?" Jonathan smiled, pulling you into another hug. You took a deep breath and decided to risk it all.
You kissed him.
You placed your lips on his and, to your surprised, he kissed back. You were half excepting something to interrupt but nothing did.
The two of you deepened the kiss, until you both finally broke apart for air.
Jonathan smiled his goofy grin at you. You could feel yourself blushing. You assumed you looked like a tomato from blushing so hard.
"You could have done that sooner." He remarked, grabbing your hand. You blushed more and followed him, hand in hand, back to Jonathan's car.
So I've never kissed anyone.
I don't know how it feels or anything. If I did a horrible description...I'm not sorry.
