Robin Buckley- Kisses (c)
Robin gripped onto her short fair hair, pulling on the fistfuls as she turned around, avoiding your eye. She let out a grunt of frustration, having hated the question you had asked her and hating the answer she would have to give you.
The two of you had become quick friends, only becoming closer when you realised you were two of the few queer people in Hawkins, at least that you could find. You didn't think you'd be a walking stereotype though when you found another lesbian and instantly fell for her. You doubted that she liked you in return, but she did, and you started to date but you were starting to be surrounded by insecurities again.
You weren't desperate to jump down her pants, but you wanted to try and have some small ounces of intimacy, but anytime you attempted anything beyond holding hands, she always made an excuse or avoided it. You had lost count of how many times you had attempted to kiss her, and she had dodged you or gone in for a hug instead. She had never explained why but you couldn't help but take it very personally.
It finally became too much for you and you had to ask Robin the question that had been on your mind for so long- Why won't you kiss me?
That question was what led to Robin's frustration. She hoped that you hadn't noticed her avoidance, but it was a stupid belief and now she would have to face the thing that she had been so nervous to tell you.
"You're going to think I'm an idiot," she sighed, still turned away from you.
"I could never think you were an idiot," you whispered, pain still strong within you. "You're the smartest person I know."
"Not after this. Not when you know the truth."
You could feel your bottom lip begin to quiver as you feared what she was hiding, fearing that she would end the relationship or tell you that everything that had happened so far was a lie.
"Please just tell me what I've done wrong."
Robin turned to you, a hurt expression upon her face.
"You've done nothing wrong, why would you think that?"
You shrugged your shoulders. "Why else won't you tell me why you won't kiss me?"
She let out a sigh, moving her fingers from her hair, trying to flatten it back down as she did so.
"I've never kissed anyone before," she admitted. "I didn't want you to hate me if I was terrible at it."
It took you a second for her words to make sense in your head. You had been so set on that you were the problem, that you hadn't even fathomed that there was any other reasonable explanation about what was causing her to be avoidant.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to pressure you," you whispered.
Robin shook her head. "You've not. I want to kiss you, God, I want to... I was just scared you'd think I was an idiot if I messed up."
You took a step towards her, taking her hand into yours. "Robin Buckley, can I give you your first kiss?"
Her cheeks reddened at your question, her eyes averting from your own.
"Do you... do you still want to?" She asked, a quiet nervousness that you weren't used to from her.
You gently raised her chin with a single finger before leaning in to press your lips to hers. It was a short and sweet kiss, but it was perfect, it was everything you had wanted from her and more and helped seal the wound you had created for yourself in the winding negative thoughts.
When you pulled away, you couldn't help but smile like a mad man.
"How'd I do?" She asked, a light chuckle following.
"You did wonderful. I can't wait to do it again."
