Back at Mike's HQ, the party returns. Five laying down on the couch while the others sit at the D&D table going over what they heard.

Mike: What was Will saying? Like home but dark.

Lucas: And empty.

Dustin: Empty and cold, wait did he say cold?

Lucas: I don't know. The radio kept going in and out.

Dustin: It's like a riddle in the dark. El you got anything.

Jane was currently stuck in thought, relaying Will's words in her head.

Mike: Maybe he was talking about somewhere else.

It snapped in her head. Home, but dark, empty and cold, Five flipping the board upside down.

Eleven: I got it!

She yells scaring the boys.

Dustin: Got what.

Eleven pushed the figures off the board.

Eleven: Five told us from the beginning where he was. *She flips the board upside down* Upside Down.

Lucas: What.

Eleven: Upside down, when he showed us where Will was he flipped the board over.

Mike seemed to catch what she was saying.

Eleven: Think about it. When we were following Five to look for Will where did he lead us.

Lucas: Will's house but he wasn't there.

Eleven: But what if Will was there but we couldn't see him.

Eleven flip the board right side up.

Mike: I get it now. This *points at the board* is Hawkins and *flips the board over and points at it again* is where he is. Upside down.

Dustin and Eleven: Vale of Shadows.

Dustin grabs his D&D book and skimmed to the page he was looking for.

Dustin: The Vale of Shadows is a dimension that is a dark reflection or echo of our world. A plane out of phase. A place of monsters. It's right next to you and you don't even know it.

Lucas: But...but how do we get there.

Dustin: We cast shadow walk.

Eleven: No disgus, in the real world who do we do it.

Dustin: We can't shadow walk but...*turns to Five* maybe he can.

Eleven eagerly walks over to Five.

Eleven: Do you know how we get there? To the Upside Down?

Five doesn't answer with his word but he shakes his head.

Lucas: Oh my God.

(Ives)

It's early as Jane starts at her reflection in the mirror. It was Will's 'funeral' today. And what's worse is that her, the party and Five knew Will was alive. She had wore a black dress and had her hair tucked behind her ear. It pains her to know this information and not tell his family. They don't know if Will had full contact with Joyce at all. They only know he was pleading. Jane was soon out of her thoughts as she heard a knock on the door. The door opened to her mother.

Terry: Hey sweetie. Karen's downstairs waiting for us.

Jane: Okay. 

Terry: I'm sorry sweetie? I don't even know the words to help you in this situation.

Terry and Jane's eyes being to water but both had different reasons. Terry never had the chance to explain death to Jane when she was younger but Jane was always smart for her own good. And Eleven crying because there's so much she and her friends know but not only could they tell their parents but they wouldn't believe them either.

Terry: But if there is anything you need I'm here for you.

Jane not knowing what else to do she hugged her mother who hugged back.

It was a mother daughter moment that Eleven hasn't had for a long time. If only it were under better circumstances.

(Funeral)

The party reach the graveyard. Everyone who has known Will and his family personally showed, even his 'father'.

Pastor: Fear not, for I am with you. Be not dismayed, for, I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

(A/n: Isaiah 41:10 meaning for the verse is God reminds us that he'll always be with us but how I see it not only he but the people we lost as well)

Eleven looks around and spots Joyce to see her looking around skeptical as if she can't believe it to be happening, Jonathan who looms as if he can't believe it has happened and his 'father'. Another thing she spots is one of their classmates, Jennifer, maybe.

Dustin: (whispering) Just wait till we tell Will that Jennifer Hayes was crying at his funeral.

Karen pats Dustin shushing him.

After they lowered his casket everyone went into the funeral home. The party walks over to Mr. Clarke who was grabbing food to eat.

Mike: Mr. Clarke?

Clarke: Oh hey guys, how you all holding up?

Lucas: We're uh....we're in mourning.

Dustin: Man, these aren't real Nilla Wafers.

Jane lightly nudges Dustin.

Mike: We were wondering if you had time to talk.

Lucas: We have some questions.

Eleven: Alot of questions.

The group and Mr. Clarke is now sitting at a round table.

Mike: So, you know how in Cosmos, Carl Sagan talks about other dimensions.

Clarke: Yeah, sure theoretically.

Mike: Right, theoretically

Lucas: So theoretically how do we get there?

Clarke: You guys have been thinking Hugh Everett's Many World Interpretation haven't you.

Dustin's eyes widen.

Clarke: Well, basically, there are parallel universes. Just like ours, but just infinite variations of it.

Noticing some of the boys were lost Jane spoke up.

Eleven: So basically there could be a universe where I never met them or something along those lines?

Clarke: That's an example yes, that also means there's a world out there where none of this tragic stuff ever happened.

Lucas: Yeah, that's not really what we're talking about.

Eleven: We were thinking of a more evil Dimension.

Dustin: Like the Vale of Shadows. You know the Vale of Shadows?

Clarke: Echo of the material plane, where necrotic and shadow magic...

Mike: Yeah exactly.

Eleven: If that did exist, a place of dark magic, how would we travel there?

Lucas: Theoretically.

Clarke: Well...

He then picked the paper plate in front of him and took out his pen and started to draw.

Clarke: Picture an acrobat standing on top a tightrope. Now the tightrope is our dimension, and our dimension has rules. You can move forwards or backwards. But.. what if right next to our acrobat, there's a flea. Now this flea can also travel back and forth, just like the acrobat, right?

Mike: Right

Clarke: Now, here's where things get interesting. The flea can also travel along side the rope he can even...go underneath the rope.

Party: Upside down.

Clarke: Exactly.

Mike: But were not the flea. We're the acrobat.

Clarke: In this metaphor yes, we're the acrobat.

Lucas: So we can't go upside down.

Clarke: No.

Dustin: Well is the any way for the acrobat to get to the Upside Down?

Clarke thinks for a second.

Clarke: Well. You'd have to create a massive amount of energy. More than humans are capable of creating, mind you, to open up some kind if tear in time and space and then...

Clarke then folds the play and stabbed through it with his pen.

Clarke: You make a doorway.

Dustin: Like a gate?

Clarke: Sure, like a gate. But again this is all...

Eleven: Theoretical.

Mike: But what if this gate already existed?

Clarke: Well if it did, I think we'd know. It would disrupt gravity, the magnetic field, our environment. Heck it would even possibly swallow it up whole. Science is neat but I'm afraid it's not very forgiving.

The party gave each other looks and relaxed but thinking their next move.

Clarke: May I where this all came from?

Eleven: Will mentioned it the last time we saw him.

Clarke: Will always was one of the brightest.

(HQ)

Back at Mike's, Mike, Lucas and Eleven were explaining the gate situation to Five like Clarke even making a model like Clarke while Dustin walked around holding a compass.

Mike: It would take a lot of energy to build a gate like this. But that's got to be what happened right.

Eleven: Otherwise, how'd Will get there.

Five seemed like he didn't understand.

Five:R-right?

Eleven: How can we milk it down so he'd understand?

Lucas: Look, we wanna know if you know where the gate is.

Five shook his head.

Lucas: Then how do you know about the Upside Down?

Mike: Because I don't think he was there physically

Lucas: What?

Mike: I think she means even with the powers he has, he could go anywhere without stepping foot there.

Eleven: Like Professor...

Lucas: Say Professor X again and I'll rip your head off. Guys this is different than some stupid superhero comic. This is real life.

The remaining party sighs and brainstorm again not before Mike calls out to Dustin.

Mike: Dustin, what are you doing? Dustin? DUSTIN!

Lucas: Dustin!

Dustin: I-i need to see your compasses.

Mike: What?

Dustin: Your compasses. All of your compasses right now!

The party soon grabs their bags and dumped them on the table picking out the compasses. Dustin examines them.

Mike: What's exiting about this?

Dustin: Well, they're all facing North, right?

Lucas: Yeah, so?

Eleven soon picks up on what Dustin pointing out.

Eleven: They're not facing true North.

Dustin: This is why Eleven is always the one I never have to milk thing down for.

Mike: What do you two mean?

Dustin: We mean exactly what Eleven just said. That's not true North

There was a pregnant pause between Mike and Lucas as they looked at each ither in confusion.

Dustin: Are you two seriously this dense?

Eleven: Guys the sun rises in the East and sets in the West, right? Which means that's *points* true North.

Dustin then shows the other the needle is facing the complete opposite way.

Mike: So your saying the compasses are broken?

Dustin: Do either of you see a battery pack on this thing?

Mike: No.

Dustin: Because it doesn't need one. The needle is naturly drawn to the Earth's magnetic North Pole.

Lucas: So what's wrong then?

Dustin: That's what I couldn't figure out, but then I remembered. You can change the direction of a compass with a magnet. If there's the presence of a more powerful magnetic field, the needle will deflect to the power. And then I remembered what Mr. Clarke said. The gate would have so much power.

Eleven: That' it would disrupt the electromagnetic field.

Dustin: Exactly.

Lucas: Meaning is we follow the compasses North.

Mike: It would lead us to the gate.

The party smiles as they now have new hope to find Will, but they don't notice Five looking at them with a big worried expression.

(Woods)

The party plus Fove are now walking along the railroad track, they were walking for a long time. Lucas was panting as Fige had been acting strange. He was wiping his nose every few minutes.

Lucas: How much further?

Dustin: I don't know. These only tell directions, not distance. You really need to learn more about these things.

Lucas: I'm just saying, how fo we know when we get to the gate.

Mike: I'm pretty sure that we'll see it, plus the compass will probably act wonky.

Lucas sighs and looked back again to see Five wipe his nose, his head had been down the whole trip and was acting suspicious.

Lucss: Do you think he's acting weird?

Mike: You're asking if the weirdo is acting weird?

Five begins to recall another memory in Hawkins Lab.

Five: How far Papa?

Brenner: Farther than we've ever gone before.

Brenner showed Five a picture.

Five: The Bath?

Brenner: Yes, the bath. Is that okay?

Five nods

Five: Okay.

Five nodded is now seen in a white bathing suit that looks like a vest as he and two doctor walking up some stairs. He keeps looking back for Brenner nervously. Once they reach the bath another doctor puts the wire on Five head. The tank is now open to Five who know has a diving mask on for air. He is lowered into the 'Bath'. Brenner stands outside the Tank and waves at Five, who puts his hand on the glass as it's now closing.

Five panting somewhat heavily he grabs Eleven's arm.

Five: Eleven.

Eleven: Yeah.

Five: Turn back.

Eleven: What? Why?

Five: I'm tired.

Eleven: Don't worry we're almost there.

(Junkyard)

The party now reaches the towns Junkyard, as they begin to rest Dustin looks at his compass confused.

Dustin: Oh no.

Lucas: Oh, no? What's Oh, no?

Dustin: We're headed back home.

Mike: What are you sure?

Dustin: Yeah I'm sure. Sun's setting right there. We looped around back here.

Lucas: And you're just realizing this now?

Dustin: Why is this all on me?

Mike: Because you're the compass genius.

Dustin: What does yours say?

Mike: North.

Lucas exhales in frustration.

Eleven: That's makes no sense.

Mike: Maybe the gate moved.

Dustin: I think it's something something else screwing with the compasses.

Mike: Maybe it's something here.

Dustin: No, it's has to be like a super magnet.

Lucas finally turns to Five and all his suspicions are proven.

Lucas: It's not a magnet.

All eyes now on Lucas. (I hated Lucas in this scene, even after what was going on it was just stupid to me, it was poorly written to me but let's go)

Lucas: He's been acting weirder than normal. If he can slam doors with his mind. He can definitely screw up a compass

Eleven: Why would he do that Lucas?

Lucas: Because he's trying to sabotage our mission. Because he's a traitor.

Five: You have no idea what you are up against.

Lucas grabs his arm and looks at the sleeve.

Lucas: Fresh blood, I knew it.

Eleven: Lucas calm down.

Lucas: I'm sick of it! He's been wiping his nose on the tracks. He was using his powers.

Mike: That's bull. That's old blood right Five?

There was a short pause but Fove remained stoic.

Mike: Right Five.

Five: It's. Not. Safe.

That's when hell broke loose.

Lucas: I told you he was a traitor.

Eleven: For trying to lead us away from danger.

Lucas: What danger?!

Eleven: Lucas i don't know if you remembered but there's bad people after him that faked Will's death and a freaking Demogorgon, you wanna take those thing on with a shitty slingshot?!

Lucas: Of course your on his side, ever since we found him you been sticking to him like glue.

Mike: Lucas there right and you know it you just keep crying about it, we're kids what do you expect us to do.

Lucas: Oh here comes Mike now, I thought finding Will was number one for you.

Mike: It is but we need a plan Lucas, you actually thought we'd go into the Upside Down take Will and not run into the Bad Men or the Demogorgon!

Lucas: Mike, he's been playing us from the beginning!

Mike: That's not true he helped us find Will.

Lucas: Find Will? FIND WILL! Where is he then? Huh, I don't see him.

Mike: Yeah, you know what I mean.

Lucas: No I actually don't Just think about it Mike, he could have told us where the Upside Down was right away. But he didn't. He made us walk around like a chicken with its head cut off.

Dustin finally noticing how tense the situation is and being the middle man like always.

Dustin: All right, calm down!

Lucas: No! He used us! All of us! He helped just enough so he could get what he wants. Food and a bed. He's like a stray dog.

Eleven: Screw you Lucas!

Lucas: No, scwer you Jane! You're blind...blind because you like that a boys not grossed out by you. But wake up, wake the hell up. He knows where Will is. And now he's just letting him die in the Upside Down.

Mike: Shut up!

Lucas: For all we know it's his fault. We're looking for some stupid monster. But have you ever stopped to think that maybe he's the monster.

Eleven at this point was ready to strangle Lucas but Mike beat her to the count grabbing him by the shoulder as they started wrestling and fighting on the ground. Eleven and Dustin yelling at them to stop as Five is hyperventilating

Dustin: Guys!

Five: Stop it.

Eleven: Knock it off you imbecile.

Five: Stop!

Eleven: Mike, get off him!

Five: STOP IT!!!

Five yells as Lucas is went flying off of Mike, he threw Lucas into the side of a broken rusted car. He laid there unconscious. Mike, Dustin and Five run over to Lucas shaking him calling him by his name to get a response.

Eleven: Lucas, are you alright?

Dustin: Lucas wake up man!

Mike turns to Five who is looking at the horror he caused blood running down his nose.

Mike: Why would you do that? What's wrong with you?

Eleven: Mike, now is not the time.

Five is hurt, he trusted them, but he lied to them.

Eleven: Lucas.

Dustin: Lucas, come on!

Lucas begins to open his eyes.

Dustin: Lucas how many fingers am I hold up?

Lucas brushes his arm away.

Mike: Let me see your head

Lucas shoves Mike away.

Lucas: Get off of me!

Lucas rushes off leaving the party behind. Mike tried to go after him but was stopped by Dustin while Eleven ran her hand through her hair. She looked over to see Five but he was gone.

Eleven: Five.

Mike and Dustin soon find out he's gone too.
