Part 6

Dawn looked down at Don in complete and utter shock. This crazy alien had no idea what he was doing did he? Great and right in front of a bunch of people who think that we are together. Well there is no way that I can say no to him so smiling as wide as I can I embrace Don as tight as I can so that I can whisper into his ear.

"Are you completely crazy? Doing that to a woman is asking her to marry you!" I whisper in a tense tone right into his ear. "I can't say no in front of all these people here either so just play along with me ok?"

Pulling away Dawn can see Don nod at her with a smile also on his face. Taking the ring out of the box he put it on her ring finger since Dawn made that the only finger available for him to put the ring on. Smiling brightly Dawn began to play the part and smile while nodding her head yes and appearing to tear up.

"Don! Yes a million times yes!" Dawn smiled as she answer his unspoken question.

Going with the flow Dawn felt herself be picked up by Don and his lips make contact with hers. At first she was shocked but then she eased into the kiss and it felt almost natural for her to be kissing him as he eyes began to close and relax in his arms.

"Is she pregnant and you have to marry her to do the honorable thing?" Kelly questions of course running the moment.

Dawn pulled away from Don's kiss and narrowed her eyes right at Kelly as if to send her a silent death threat.

"No, I want to be with Dawn and I don't need her to be with child to be with her." Don said a bit defensively catching even Dawn off guard.

"I thought...you and I had something." Kelly said disappointedly as she made her way to the door but turned her head back to the couple one more time. "If you regret your decision you just come find me."

That was it, Dawn began to struggle in Don's arms because she was now going to kill Kelly and put her on a nearby wall to show to anyone who dared mess with her. Struggling to keep her still Don tightened his grip but took his one free hand and directed Dawn's head to look at him as he leaned in again and kissed her. Somehow he knew that would distract Dawn long enough for Kelly to take the hint and leave. Which she did, a part of Don knew that she might be back though and that he couldn't keep Dawn distracted like this forever.

"Don...people are staring..." Dawn said through their joined lips.

Realising this Don slowly pulled away and looked around.

"Show's over people, back to your own business." The old man who originally told Don to give Dawn the ring said as he went back to his morning coffee and paper.

As if he were the leader of the town, everyone around them went back to their own tasks and everyday lives. Dawn on the other hand put someone else in charge and directed Don back to their apartment so she could explain to him just what he had gotten himself into.

"Marriage?! That wasn't part of the deal! Do you know that as of just a few minutes ago you and I are engaged?" Dawn asked in a bit of a panicked tone as she looked at Don who had a silly smile on his face. "Why are you smiling about this?"

Don shook his head as he seemed to realize that Dawn was just scolding him. Rolling her eyes Dawn lead Don to the computer and google search "marriage, wedding" and made him read the results. None of this seemed to upset him though, in fact it had the opposite effect, it made him happy! Confused as to why Don would be happy about marrying someone not only that he barely knew but someone that was also not his species!

"Don do you not see what you did?" Dawn questioned as she sat down beside him.

"According to this, I asked you to marry me and be my wife." Don replied not looking away from the computer screen.

"Exactly...do you see why that may also cause a few problems?"

"Not really, we have taken others of your species as spouses before and they all seemed to have happy long lives as well." Don shrugged in response...definitely not the response that Dawn was expecting.

"What? You abducted our species so you could marry them and what mate with them?"

"A few did, others went to earth like we have to explore your world and they fell in love. There is no law against our species marrying others."

Dawn didn't know what to say, not only was she shocked to learn what Don had just told her but the thought that other aliens had been here and done this before did seem to put her mind on overdrive. Then again why should that shock her? After all people had been reporting alien sightings for some time now...though they were thought to be crazy...was there a chance that they were right?

"They had children that weren't deformed or sick or anything like that?" Dawn questioned since that was another random question she had.

"No, we are closer to your species than you think." Don said turning back to look at Dawn now. "Does it scare you to be engaged to me and the fact that we may have children someday?"

This is where Dawn's brain had decided it had indefinitely had enough information for the day since she passed out right there on the couch, right after Don had asked his question. Don scared that something may have happened to Dawn went right to her and caught her before she fell from the couch. Unsure what to do he went to the only other person he knew he could trust, Jeff.

Laying Dawn on the bed Don heard Jeff walk up behind him.

"What are you two doing back so soon and why is she not awake?" Jeff questioned as he looked between Dawn and Don.

"She may have been given too much information that caused her head to shut down and make her sleep." Don replied with a shrug.

"What did you do?"

"According to what I read on the computer...when a man kneels down and offering a woman a diamond ring that is a proposal of marriage." Don began to explain as Jeff put his hand over his mouth trying not to laugh. "What is humorous?"

"So you mean to tell me that you ask Dawn to marry you...and she said yes?" Jeff asked as he laughed.

"She is wearing the ring I bought her and she said yes quite a lot when I asked her. Though the minute I informed her our kind had been with her kind in marriage and reproduction that is when she passed out."

"Of course she passed out, that information is classified and now she knows about just as much as we do! Don why in the world did you have to tell her that?!" Jeff sighed as he shook his head.

"She wanted to know if our children would be deformed." Don said as he sat down beside Dawn. "I wanted to reassure her that they would be just fine."

"Whoa, you actually plan to marry and reproduce with her? A human female that you just met? Are you sure you are thinking correctly?" Jeff asked as he went up to Don. "That's not something anyone takes lightly no matter what species we are."

Don knew he had just met Dawn but every time he looked at her he felt a sense of warmth that he had never felt before in his lifetime with any earth woman he had ever met. Something about being with Dawn and just being close to her and get to know her made him want to stay with her no matter what. He didn't know what the feeling was called but he also knew that he didn't want to lose it.

"If you do think I highly suggest that you delete all of Kelly's memories that include you." Jeff said as he put her hand on Dawn's forehead. "She'll be fine, just take her back to the apartment and let her rest today."

Don took Dawn in his arms once again and looked to Jeff as he began to walk away.

"Jeff...do you think Dawn does not want to marry me?" Don asked honestly.

"Well...I think you two should have dated first but hey what do I know. After all like you said she is the one wearing the ring you bought her. Just take it super slow now...like snails pace slow." Jeff said as he turned and walked out of the room. "She will chew him up and eat him up in a week."
