Chapter Twenty-Nine
Chapter Twenty-Nine
I stand aside watching everyone as they either say their goodbyes or getting instructions. My stomach turns. Joyce was talking to Will, Murray was talking to Nancy and Jonathan, Hopper talking to Eleven.
"Hey," Mike steps forward. "We should probably go."
Eleven wraps her arms around Hopper's neck and he hugs her back. Eleven pulls away and Hopper gives her a nod. Eleven smiled at him before Mike and Max put their arms around her, and help her walk away towards Lucas.
"Mike?" Hopper questions. Mike turns back to face Hopper. "Be careful." Mike nods and rushes to catch up with Max, Eleven, Lucas. Jonathan, Will, and Nancy looked over at me as they begin to walk towards Max, Eleven, Lucas, and Mike.
I joined them, following behind.
We had eventually made it outside the mall entrance. "El, you're bleeding." Max pointed out beside her.
"Are you okay?" Mike added on.
"Yeah," Eleven grunts. We all moved towards the car, Max opens the back of it, Mike told Eleven to lay down in the back, we all climbed in one by one.
Nancy was driving, Jonathan was in the back. Nancy turned the key in the ignition.
The engine splutters. "What's wrong?" Jonathan asks.
"I don't..." Nancy stutters, trying to get the car work. "I don't know. You can't be serious. Come on!"
I sit beside Will. Mike, Lucas, Max, and Eleven were sitting in the back. I looked at Will. "Didn't your Mum just buy this car?" I asked Nancy.
"Yes." Nancy stresses. "I'm sure it's be fine."
"Did you leave the lights on?" Will asked.
"No," Nancy answers.
"Do we have gas?" I questioned.
"Yes!" Nancy exclaimed.
The engine continues to splutter. "Hey, hey, leave it, Nancy, you're gonna blow the engine or something," I tell her.
Nancy sighed and stopped. "Pop the hood," Jonathan tells her. Jonathan and Nancy climbed out of the car, the hood popping.
That's when there was a loud engine roaring, my breath hitches slightly and I looked out the window.
There was Billy in his blue Camaro car, his lights flashes on. He was there, in the empty parking lot.
That's when Nancy at smacked the window. "Back to the mall!" She shouts. I jumped out of the car. "Go, go, go!"
The kids are being ushered into the mall, I was the last to leave and looked behind me, Billy was still there, not moving; his gaze fixed on me, causing my heart to hammer against my chest. My stomach was turning as we made eye contact, it made me want to scream.
"Stacey!" I heard Jonathan shout my name, I looked at him before joining with them, going back into Starcourt Mall.
We all piled into the court, Mike uses the walkie talkie to comminute with 'Scoops Troop', aka Stiles, Dustin, Steve, Robin, and Erica. He paces around and my eyes land on Lucas who pulls back his slingshot, Eleven stands next to him as he sat in the cafeteria.
I watched Nancy take a gun off a dead man's body. Will and Max looked at Nancy. "You're gonna kill him, aren't you?" Max questioned her carefully.
"This is just for precaution, okay?" Nancy reassured them, looking between them.
"And not just angaint Billy," Will reminds Max, who turns her head towards him. "If he knows we're here, so does the Mind Flayer."
"Scoops Troop, I repeat, we are in need of emergency transportation, do you copy?" Mike speaks repetitively on the Walkie Talkie, still pacing around.
My stomach turns again. They're not picking up, something bad must've happened to them... Or worse... It's dangerous for me to go down in that spiral of thinking, I will literally have a panic attack and Stiles won't be here to calm down this time.
Nancy's eyes land on the damaged car that El had thrown earlier. "No chance that thing'll drive, right?" Nancy asked and looked back over at them, chuckling to herself.
"We don't need it to drive," Jonathan had stood next to Max now, his eyes on the vehicle. "We just need the ignition cable."
I watched as the boys, Max, and Nancy tried to lift it up, Eleven and I stand side by side. "Let me try," Eleven requests.
"El..." Mike speaks unsurely.
I looked over at Eleven, maybe my scream can help her, too. "Let us try," I tell them, Eleven looked over at me unsurely. "Trust me."
Moments later, the group stands behind Eleven, who stands opposite me. Eleven had her arms stretch out and I was building up the courage to scream loudly. "Block your ears," I advise them and I watched them as they all covered their ears.
Eleven begun us off, using her power to try and move the car. The car doesn't move, and her hands start to waver.
I let out the loudest scream I could muster, I aimed my hands towards the car, something Lydia had taught me to do to control where our scream is pointed. I hear the glass shatter around us, I noticed Eleven had stopped but that didn't stop me.
I continued screaming - sounding like a complete nutjob - and the car had moved, eventually getting on its all fours and I stopped screaming, before collapsing on the floor. I was awake, I just felt very tired.
"Stacey!" I watched as the group run towards me, Jonathan helping me up and I lean on them, smiling.
I thought maybe if I screamed, then that feeling would go away in my stomach. But it didn't; it kept turning and turning.
"That was awesome," Max tells me. "I didn't know you could do that."
I let out a low chuckle. "It's a hidden talent." Jonathan and Nancy both loop an arm around me, helping me around the counter and the kids following us.
"Here, take her to the seats," Jonathan tells Max and Will, they both complied and take over Nancy and Jonathan's job.
"I'm fine," I tell them, waving off their help but they don't listen and take me to the seat that didn't sit far away. I watched as Jonathan and Nancy tried to lift up the crumbled hood.
"How do we get it opened?" Nancy quickly asked.
"Uh, there should be a latch," Jonathan puts to the car. "Check under the wheel." Nancy walked over to the car and peered inside. "You see it?"
"I don't know, hold on," Nancy tells him as she digs further.
"What's she doing?" I looked over at Max whose eyes were locked on Eleven who is digging through the trash can. Mike turns around who was standing behind Max.
She finds an empty new coke can and sets it down on a ledge surrounding a column. She focused on the coke. "El," Mike and Max had walked over to her, I blocked them out, a ringing in my ear.
Jonathan raises the hood. "Do you see it?" Nancy had asked him and I stand up, feeling better already and walked over to them.
"I don't know," Jonathan admits, looking through the engine. "It should be right here. Distributor, distributor..."
My stomach turns entirely and my eyes wander over to the loud banging that came up from above us; my eyes widen when I noticed something large moving along the ceiling. Pounding footsteps could be heard and I watched as the roof begins to cave in.
"Guys," I speak, my voice rusty. The glass begins to buckle under the weight of the monster.
"Nancy!" Mike had yelled, noticing it as well. Nancy turned and looked at Mike, as well as Jonathan.
Eleven regards the monster, a low snarl from above could be heard. Mike grabbed her hand, I was moved by Nancy and we flee deeper into the food court just as the ceiling gives way and the monster drops into the mall; letting out a large shriek.
