Twenty Three (Part One)
The cool air rustled the oak trees that lined the border of central park. Tall light posts loomed over the vacant side walks, only a few lonely strangers using them at that time of night. Y/N sat directly underneath one of them, her body safetly planted on an old bench.
She texted Camila minutes ago, a few simple words to let the mysterious girl know she was ready.
In a way, Y/N was ready. Her body ached to get the stress and mystery over with. But her mind wouldn't let her feel comfortable with meeting three strangers in a place she was entirely unfamiliar with. That's what the can of pepper spray in her back pocket was for. And just in case that didn't work, she had a Swiss Army knife tucked in the band of her underwear.
Y/N sighed and watched as her hot breath turned to fog, only to disappear short moments after. Normally she found it amusing, but tonight she couldn't find any fun in it. The cold was too much to bear, her hands and ears were proof of her discomfort.
"Hey, Honey," A voice said, Y/N immediately recognizing it as Camila's. She flinched and gripped her pants, her fingers folding over the concealed weapon. Her head turned in all directions, searching frantically for Camila and the other two women she was supposed to be meeting.
"It's okay," Camila said, "Don't be scared. I'm going to sit next to you, okay?"
Before Y/N could protest, Camila plopped down on the bench next to her.
"Honey. Look at me,"
Y/N let go of the knife and swiftly moved her gaze onto the other girl. Her eyes softened almost automatically, and the feeling from the other night came back.
Stop feeling like this, dumbass. You can only ever feel like this with Shawn. And he's gone. You have no one.
"Hello," Y/N whispered. She watched Camila's lips turn into a smile. The rosy colour of her cheeks began to return, a permanent blush on her face rising. Y/N was smitten with the stranger, no matter how strange it actually was.
"The other two are here," Camila said, subconsciously reaching for Y/N's hand, "I told them to wait before coming over. I didn't want them to scare you. And with that being said, I know about the knife, Honey. I don't think you'll need it but I won't tell them you have it,"
If she knows about the knife, the other two probably do too. How stupid are you? And to think you thought you pulled one over. Stupid.
"O-okay,"
