Dustin's POV

It was the morning I had just eaten breakfast. And I sat on my bed fiddling with my hat nervous out of my mind. I was going to go ask Emily if she wanted to go out with me.

Steve had told me to just ask but that was easier said then done. I put on a nicer shirt it was a blue plaid and jeans. And for once didn't wear my hat. I told my mom goodbye and headed out. I didn't take my bike so I could rehearse some lines. "Hey would you maybe want go out tonight?" Nah that wasn't good. How did Steve do this?

Before I knew it I was at Emily's house. Swallowing my fear I walked up and knocked on the door. Straightened my shirt and stood taller. Emily's mom opened the door. "He-Hello mrs Tussle" I said trying to be as nice as I could.

A smile spread across her face. "Hello Dustin" she said. How did she know who I was? Did Emily tell her about me? That we were together.

"Is Emily home?" I asked.

"Yes she is,she's in her room" she said opening the door wider so I could come inside. The house was like the Byers but the kitchen and living room were switched.

"Second door on the left" she said pointing down the hall. I walked down the hall and stood in her doorway she was at her desk drawing humming a tune. I stepped into the room and started humming the song as well.

Emily turned around and smiled at me. "What's the occasion?" She said standing up and walking over to me. Oh god I'm committed now I have to ask her.

"Well" I said walking over and sitting on her bed. She came and sat next to me.

"I was wondering...if you would want to go out with me tonight" I asked. She didn't answer.

She leaned in and kissed me on the cheek "I would love to go out with you tonight Dustin Henderson" she said.

My face grew hot and my stomach knotted she said yes. We talked for a bit planing on were to meet and what time. We decided on 6:00 in the big field behind the school. We said goodbye and I walked out of her room she walked me out. "Goodbye Dustin" her mom called I waved to her.

"Bye,see you tonight" Emily said as I walked out of the house.

"See you tonight" I said. I wasn't expecting her to say yes but I had a plan for what I was going to do.

Emily's POV.

Dustin had asked me out! I couldn't believe it. What was I going to wear?

"What's tonight?" My mom asked as Dustin left.

"Dustin's taking me out" I said.

"Well then,we will have to get you a nice dress!" My mom exclaimed grabbing the car keys.

"No mom it's your day off you should relax I'll wear something I already have" I said.

"Nope!" She said I knew I couldn't change her mind. We got in the car and drove to the store. After a couple hours I found a dress. It was yellow and orange kinda plain but it had a ruffled skirt.

My mom dropped me off at the school and I walked around the back. To find candles on the ground leading me to the soccer field. And to Dustin he stood in his blue plaid shirt and jeans. But he also had on a black tie. He stood there with a grin plastered on his face.

"My lady" he said putting his hand out. I took it and he lead me to a blanket surrounded by candles. I couldn't believe that he did all this for me.

"Dustin this is amazing" I said sitting down on the blanket.

"Nah it's nothing" he said. Then he pulled out a basket and pulled out sandwiches for us.

After we were done eating our sandwich he said he had a surprise and tells me to close my eyes,I do.

"Open em" I open my eyes to Dustin holding a 3 musketeers bar out for me. I laugh.

"Yes!" I said taking the bar he then pulled out his own.

"To us!" He said raising his bar like a toast I do the same.

"To us" I say.

After we eat our bars we talk for a while.

"So I have another surprise" he says.

"What another one?"

"Yup! Close your eyes" I do as he says till I hear music playing. I recognize the song and start to tear up.

Then comes the voice but it's not the singers voice. It's Dustin's.

"You are so beautiful,to me" he sings I open my eyes only to shut them blinking away my tears. He puts his hand out for me I take them and he pulls me to my feet.

"You are so beautiful,to me...can't you see" he cradles me in his arms and we dance.

"Your everything I hoped for...your everything I need" I rest my head on his shoulder and close my eyes listing to him and the music.

"You are so beautiful to me"

Tears are streaming down my face now. The song ends and I hug him tightly. "Did you like it?" He asks.

I shake my head and put his face in my hands. "I loved it" I say kissing him. I pull away and we continue to dance even though there's no more music.

His arms wrapped around me and mine around him.

It was perfect.

"EMILY!!!" I jump at my name and pull away from Dustin looking to the source of the sound. My dad was marching towards me and he was mad. Dustin held me close to him and stepped in between me and him.

My dad walked up to us. "Who's this?" He asks addressing Dustin. The smell of alcohol in his breath. His words are slurred and he can't stand still without leaning to this side or that side. Dustin stands between me and him holding my hand behind his back.

"Hello sir,my name is Dustin" Dustin says standing a little taller.

"I'm Emily's—"

"He's my boyfriend" I blurt out. My dad looks at me.

"Did me or your mother ever say you could have a boyfriend" he asks me.

"Mom knows about him dad she's fine with it" I explain.

"Well I'm not!" he says pushing Dustin and grabbing my wrist and dragging me away.

"HEY!" Dustin yells. My dad turns around sluggishly and states at him. Dustin gets up and walks over to my dad looking at him hard. My dad leans in towards him so he's inches from his face.

"What?" He asks anger in his tone.

Dustin doesn't back down though. "Don't you ever touch her again" he says to him. My dad smirks and yanks me forward so I'm standing next to him.  Then he raises his hand and smacks me across the face. My cheek burning as I flinch away from him.

Dustin looks at him hard I can see the anger in his eyes. Then he pushes my dad making him stumble. My dad lets go of me and I run to Dustin who hugs me hard before turning back to my drunk father. "I said don't touch her" he said clearly angry. And with that he pushed my dad hard in the chest sending him to the ground.

"Come on" Dustin says taking my hand and running off towards the road.

We get on the road and run. We run as fast as we can. For a while until I run out of breath and have to stop. I fall to my knees crying my cheek still burning. Why did he have to come and ruin the perfect night why?

Dustin bends down and rubs my back. "Are you ok?" I look up at him and he looks not scared for himself but scared for me. He looks at my red face and I can see tears building in his blue eyes. I nod and stand up I can hear a car coming down the road but not from behind us from in front of us. The car turns a bend and I recognize it.

It's Hoppers truck. Dustin and I go out into the road waving our hands and yelling for Hopper to stop. He comes to a stop and rolls down his window. Dustin runs up to him and explains.

"Hopper,we need help" he says breathing heavily. Hopper didn't even ask any questions he just said.

"Get in" me and Dustin climb into the truck and explain to Hopper what happened.

Hopper drove back to the school to find my dad in his car drinking. Hop arrested him for a DUI and abuse.

Hopper tells us to stay at the school while he drives my dad to the police station. Then he would come back and take us home.

I sat down in the grass crying. Dustin sat down with me. "Hey..it's ok" he said.

"No it's not Dustin! My dads a stupid jerk and he ruined our date. And he probably hurt my mom. And...." I choke on my tears.

"Hey hey" Dustin said pulling me into him rubbing my arm.

"It's ok I'm sorry he came here, but he didn't ruin our date!" He said.

"Why did you do that?" I asked.

"Do what?" He asked me.

"Push him" I said.

"Because I couldn't let him hurt you like that" he said rubbing my cheek with his thumb.

"I love you Emily Tussle" he said.

"And I love you Dustin Henderson" I said putting his lips to mine.

We pulled away and he pulled me into a hug.

I held onto him onto this moment for as long as I could.
