Back In Time
A month in, two more months until we move. We started to pack a few things, just the little things, books, extra stuff we had. It was early, 6 am early. I woke up by the sun that peeked out from the window. I turned to see El sleeping. I silently got up and went to the kitchen.
"Good morning." Aunt Joyce said as she gave me a kiss on the cheek. "Up a little early dont you think?"
"The sun kinda woke me up."
"Remind me to fix those curtains then." She said as she poured herself some coffee. I sat on the couch and turned on the tv. The news played. Aunt Joyce sat next to me. She went through her keys and handed me one. "After your parents died, Lonnie decided to put their things in a storage room, then gave me the key." She looked the key. "Now that we are moving, now that you are grown, you can look through their stuff, keep whatever you want." I saw the tiny key.
"Everything is in there?" I looked at her. She nodded.
"Everything." I took a long pause. "Whenever you are ready of course."
"Im ready Aunt Joyce. Maybe me being there, it will bring me closure." She rubbed her hand on my shoulder. "Thank you." She gave me a smile.
"You are welcome Wendy." I pulled me for a hug. She's literally the best aunt. I mean she is the only aunt i have but, she is the best. Aunt Joyce went to work, the kids went to Dustins house, Jonathan went to develop some pictures. I stayed home. I pulled out a map to see where the storage place ways. After i did my calculations, i drove to Steves house. I ran to the front door and knocked.
"Ahoy there beautiful." Steve smirks.
"Ahoy handsome." I gave him a kiss.
"What bring you here to the humble abode of Steve Harrington?"
"Okay, so what do you think about if we go on an adventure?" I asked. He smiled at me, seeing how excited i was.
"Go on."
"So my aunt Joyce gave me keys to a storage unit, Lonnie put all of my parents things in there. I did my math, it will take us 45 minutes to there and back here. Are you in?"
"45 minutes?" I pulled out my car keys.
"Since im the most beautiful, awesomeness girlfriend in the whole entire world, Im driving." I sang.
"Ill buy dinner then." We both laughed and went to my car. It was a stressful drive, Steve was confused by the roads on the map, telling me the opposite roads, restroom stops, snack stops, BUT finally we made it. "Using a map is so hard, i wish we had someone tell us where we are going." Steve whinnied as we walked to the storage room. I walked up to the door. "Are you sure about this?"
"Im 100 percent sure." I put the key in the lock and unlocked the door. There was a bunch of boxes and some furniture. i walked in and scanned the boxes. They were all labeled my dads name, there was some labeled my mothers named.
"Dick?" Steve asked as he opened a box.
"Short for Richard, my dad." I smiled. I sat on the ground and looked at boxes. Steve found some old pictures of me as a kid and baby. He definitely kept one of them. We took some boxes to the car. I sat down and I opened one the boxes. There was a bunch of video tapes, and a box full of letters. I opened the first letter.
What a day let me tell you. It was the first day of high school, Lonnie and I were new to Hawkins High. I went to school late, which was Lonnies fault because his hair wasn't even. We drove past the limit, went to school. Lonnie left without me. I heard the first bell and I ran to the office. I wasn't looking and I fell on top of this, beautiful girl. She has these beautiful blue eyes, dirty blonde hair, she is beautiful. As I was on top of her, she looked at me. I totally forgot about I needed to go to the office. I helped her up and ran. I got my schedule and went to my first class, physics. I looked up and saw the same girl. The teacher said her name, May Jenkins. She is stunning.
This sounded so familiar. I wiped my tear away.
"Hey Steve." I called out. Steve sat down next to me and I handed him the note. "My dad met my mom the same way we met."
"Bumping into each other." He said as he read the letter. "Wow."
"Thats strange dont you think?"
"Fates not strange."
"Strange love, huh?" I smiled. "Its crazy that people fall in love in strange ways." Steve kissed my hand.
"Its like its meant to be." I stared at him, smiling.
"Meant to be." I whispered to him. We got the last box in the car and the storage was empty. We drove back to my place. We put the boxes in my room and I decided to pull out some tapes that my parents had.
"Wendy darling!" My mother smiles as she saw me walking for the first time.
"This is going down in the books!" My father laughs as he focused on me.
"You are so cute." Steve said as he hugged me from behind.
"Baby me or me me?"
"Both." We laughed. We went through so much tapes that it was getting dark. There was one last tape. I pulled out a cigarette and gave on to Steve.
"Wendy, darling, its me dad."
"Its mom." They waved at the camera.
"I hope you find these tapes. We just want to say we love you. Hopefully you are older, in college, with a loving boyfriend." Steve placed his chin on my shoulder. "If your boyfriend is watching this, you better be good to her."
"Oh enough Richard!" My mom gently pushes him.
"Anyways, you are a great daughter. We are extremely lucky to have you. We will be there for you every step of the way. No matter what you decide on doing with your life, we will be there."
"You Wendy are a strong girl, the moment the doctors put you in my arms, i just knew you are destined to be this strong, independent women." My mother started to cry.
"Wendy Ringo Byers, fall in love, get your heart broken, get fired from a job, get your dream job, have kids, get married, just live your life to the fullest, promise me that."
"We love you Darling!" They both blew kisses the camera and the tape stopped. I stared at the tv, taking a puff. Tears hanging onto my eyes.
"Ringo." Steve said. I silently laughed.
"After my mom favorite Beatle of course."
"Wendy Ringo Byers, has a ring to it." I turned to him. "They love you so much."
"They really did."
"They are amazing parents."
"They really were." I sniffed. "God my dad would love you." I touched is cheek. "If he was here now, he would talk about basketball and music."
"And I would listen." Our foreheads touched. "Your mom would love me too?"
"She'll have some time to adjust since she doesn't want me to grow up to fast, but she would really grew on you." I laughed. Steve places his hands on my face. We collided our lips.
"Im sorry but was your mom wearing a peace sign necklace?" I laughed.
"She was a hippie back in the day. Trust me, my nana Willa was all about love and peace." I stuck out the peace sign.
"Interesting." We both laughed. We sat there in the living room, everyone came back.
"Is this chubby Wendy?" Jonathan said as he pulled up the picture when i was chubby. I jumped up.
"Johnny no!" We ran around the house. Jonathan gave the picture to Steve. "Why you little-" i pinched him.
"What you look too darn cute." Jonathan smiles. My face turned red as Steve smiles.
"Im keeping this one as well." He stuck the photo in his wallet. I shook my head.
"Your are something else."
"Yeah well, I love you so that doesn't matter."
