[30] : THE DEVASTATING LETTER
Astrid had been sitting alone in her room, savoring the last few minutes of silence before havoc would break loose downstairs. She was staring at the brown owl she recognized as Oliver's. It had a letter neatly tied around its leg and she gently untied it. The letter was simple, containing just a few words and Astrid felt as though Oliver could've tried better.
To the love of my life,
I truly am sorry Astrid, I see no chance of us ever recovering from this. I've seen the way Leo looks at you, seen the way you smile. Listen to your heart my love, just know that I will forever love you.
Oliver.
She stashed the letter under her bed, and it slides right on top of Cedric's. And as quick as lighting, she was writing a response to him, hoping he would respond. She didn't love Leo, she never had and never will. Though they were in good terms, it doesn't really mean she liked him. In fact, she loathed him, but she kept that part of information to herself.
At some point, she had begun crying. Tears staining the parchment and mixing in with the ink but she made no attempt to get another piece of parchment, she went on.

Astrid didn't feel like herself these days. She only spoke when spoken to, spent her days in her room and cried herself to sleep. She never had dreams these days too, and that frightened her to a point where begged Dumbledore to let her use the pensive, feeling as though this was the perfect opportunity to show Harry everything. She didn't know everything but she would do what she could, to help. To protect him. Just like her uncle James had asked her to.
"Just don't judge me Harry or get angry at me or even question me." She said as Harry watched the silver memory being pulled from her forehead. They were in Dumbledore's office and Astrid gave the pensive a vigorous shake. Harry was sure the contents were going to spill all over but to his amazement, nothing happened.
They both ducked their heads in the pensive at the same time and soon, they were standing in what used to be the Potter household. Harry could see James chasing what seemed to be a four year old Astrid around the table. The little Astrid tripped and she fell into Remus' arms and she beamed.
"'Emus!" The little Astrid giggled. Harry could feel anger boil within him. Astrid knew his father but he didn't.
"Is uncle Prongs chasing my favorite little girl?" Remus asked and beamed when Astrid nodded her head with much speed. "How about some treats?"
"Yes!" Harry could hear the Astrid beside him sigh. She must miss these times, when everything was simple.
"What's the magic word my star?" Sirius asked appearing from the kitchen clutching something that looked like a goblet filled with water or pumpkin juice.
"Abara cebara?" Astrid asked with wide dark eyes and Remus laughed, shaking his head.
"It's please my star." Sirius said, placing the goblet on the table and they heard a knock on the door. "I'll get it." Sirius said and turned to Astrid. "Behave little star."
The tiny Astrid nodded and rushed forward to sit on Remus' lap and the man happily let her sit, they began their own conversation about different types of candy and Remus pulled out a chunk of chocolate, urging her to eat it before James or Sirius could see. Harry watched as she struggled to swallow, Remus patting her back in a soothing manner.
"'Tie Lily!" The little Astrid yelled, jumping off Remus' lap with such speed, Harry was sure she was at least going to break something. And Harry was right, Astrid tipped forward and fell face first on the hard wooden floor and when she emerged from the floor, blood was trickling down her chin. Astrid began crying and Sirius moved forward, trying to calm her down. He fixed her broken nose easily with a spell and the girl wiped the blood with the sleeve of the dress she was wearing. Sirius scolded her but Astrid wasn't paying attention to him. Her dark eyes were on Lily.
The scene began whirling and then there were on what Harry could identify as a hill. Lily was picking flowers with Astrid, absent mindly talking to her about Voldemort as though she wasn't a four year old. Harry heard Astrid asking Lily how could Voldemort smell flowers if he doesn't have a nose and Lily replied by saying Voldemort didn't smell flowers, he killed them. Then they were again in the Potter household, Remus comforting a crying Astrid, who was clutching a little doll in her other hand, the other clutching her wand. Harry didn't understand how she could have obtained a wand being only a four year old.
"I made Nana 'Burga mad at uncle Reg 'Emus." Astrid sobbed. Harry could now see that Astrid and Remus had always been close, but he couldn't understand why.
"This isn't my memory." The grown Astrid said to Harry. "Uncle Remus showed it to me a few hours ago, don't know how it got mangled up with the others. But this is just the beginning Harry. If he's truly back, which he is, we all are dead. You and me included."

"Uncle Remus?" They were sitting in the kitchen at the long table. Harry sat afar from them but it could do less to bother Astrid. Sirius was helping Molly with dinner, as well as the girls. Fred and George were busy testing some of their newly created pranks. Ron sat with Harry, and they were engulfed in a conversation of their own.
"Yes Ell?"
"Oliver... He —um— broke up with me." She whispered and Remus prepared himself to comfort her. But Astrid wasn't crying. She couldn't cry in front of Ron or Harry, they'd look at her weirdly.
"I'm sorry Ell." Remus whispered back. "I know how much you loved him."
"We're meeting tomorrow and I'm going to ask him why." She sighed. "Hopefully he'll tell me why."
