[17] : A LETTER FROM DAD
My star,
I'm terribly sorry if me escaping has produced new problems for you. You are not safe my star, you are from the word safe. Go to the Whoomping Willow tree. Bring food. Prison didn't treat me well. Burn this letter after you read it.
With much love,
Your dad
Even though she had received the letter a few hours ago and burnt it the second she had finished reading it, the words still danced in her mind. She had grabbed her backpack and made sure the prefects didn't see her when she quickly slipped out the Slytherin dungeons and she quickly made her way to the kitchens. On the way, she had to hide from Mrs Norris in Snape's empty classroom and she ran after that. She stuffed random foods in the bag and asked for a couple of water bottles, she had also taken her favorite blanket. It still smelled of Oliver, a mixture of blueberries and the smell after it had rained. She'd sacrifice her only favorite blanket for Sirius. It sounded dumb, looked dumb, but it showed how much she truly loved Sirius.
She stood at the tree for hours, but no one came and she felt her heart shatter. Maybe someone had tricked her, maybe that someone knew how much she loved him. But if someone was truly tricking her, it was a cruel joke. She was about to leave when a cat appeared from the way that led to the school.
"Mrs Norris?" She had asked and the cat, if she had looked very closely she would have seen, rolled its golden eyes. Astrid watched in awe as it tapped a root and the tree went dead silent. It stood there like a normal tree. The cat sat in front of an opening. She slipped in and landed painfully.
Astrid rubbed her sore wrist as she wandered around what seemed to be a house. She could hear talking and she whipped out her wand, ready to Stupefy anyone if needed.
"You took your sweet time." Remus pulled her into a room and her eyes landed on Sirius. Astrid couldn't explain the explosion of feelings she was feeling. She was sad, happy, angry, paranoid and scared at the same time. "It won't do you any good staring, would it?"
Astrid attacked him with a hug and he groaned. She was crying, but she didn't know if they were tears of joy, or sadness, or anger or fear. She was extremely happy to see Sirius, but scared too.
"I can't believe you're really here." Astrid sobbed and Sirius wiped away her tears with his thumb. It hurt her to see him like this. He looked bony, dirty and his hair resembled Snape's.
"I am my star." He smiled at her and she felt her heart break even more. Sirius was smiling at her, he looked happy even though he sat there, chained up as though he was an animal, waiting for Dementors to come and suck all the happy memories out of him. "Did you bring the food? Your old man is hungry."
Astrid immediately unpacked the horde of food she had stuffed. She then gasped in pain, suddenly remembering her wrist. Sirius took a look at it, Remus as well and they concluded that it may be sprained. Remus used a spell that bandaged her wrist and she thanked him.
"How has Narcissa been treating you?" Sirius asked with a mouth full of food, Astrid couldn't help but smile at him.
"Good." She shrugged. "If you're asking if she treats me bad or anything the answer is no." She tossed him a sausage. He caught it and stuffed it in his mouth. Astrid sat next to him. "Why didn't you tell me about Andromeda?"
"How do you know about Andromeda?" Sirius asked, shocked. He knew why he had never told Astrid about Andromeda, why he never planned to tell her but Astrid would never understand. She'd turn on him, and apart from Remus and Harry, she was the only real family he had, he didn't want to loose her. He couldn't afford to loose her. She was the only thing that had kept him sane all these years in Azkaban.
"I dream about her." Astrid said, watching his features change from shocked to angry. "There's a man too, but he won't tell me his name. There's a girl too, she joined recently. She looks like me but she looks older, and her hair is pink."
Sirius paled. Astrid wondered if there was something she said that was wrong. "The man is Ted Tonks, Andromeda's muggle husband." He sighed.
"The girl?"
"I don't know." He lied. Astrid sighed, she thought that she'd get all the answers to all the questions she had but she was gravely mistaken. "I think you should go back." Sirius said with a heavy heart and Astrid nodded and asked him to take very good care of her blanket. He promised he would. Astrid returned to the Slytherin dungeons feeling happy but scared as well.

Astrid was sitting with Oliver at the Gryffindor table when Hermione came up to them to hand her a scroll. She immediately recognized the handwriting. Dumbledore. She thanked Hermione and told Oliver that she'd meet up with him later. Oliver couldn't help but feel as though they were drifting apart. Astrid was under a lot of stress and barely paid attention to him. But he didn't want to think if it as a big deal. He knew they'd sort it out.
Astrid finally at the statue that guarded the stairs to Dumbledore's office, said the password he had wrote down for her and went up the stairs. She knocked on the door and a tired, but still powerful voice called out, "Come in!"
"Professor Dumbledore. Mr Fudge." Astrid greeted the two elderly men and sat down in the same chair she was stuck in the first time she had met Cornelius.
"Where is he?! You're hiding him aren't you?! Well, you can't hide him forever and when we do, he won't be able to escape ever again, even with your help!" Astrid groaned in annoyance. Not this fucking shit again. She thought as she rubbed her temples.
"Yes, I helped my dad escape and I'm hiding him in a tree sir." She scoffed and Cornelius narrowed his eyes at her. She noted that it did not suite him at all. "Oh and even though I was like four, I started plotting this all. I forgot about it and remembered it in my sixth year. And by the way, yellow is not your color."
"Whatever you're playing at Black, it's not funny. Tell us where your father is, or-" He hesitated and Astrid raised her brow. She challenged him to finished his sentence. "I'll have you put in jail was well."
"I'm trembling from fear."
"Astrid, please cooperate." Dumbledore said, stirring his cup of tea. Astrid had to restrain herself from rolling her eyes at the Headmaster.
"Now Black, I'll try again, where are you hiding him?!" He roared and Astrid rolled her eyes at him.
"Even if I did know where he was, I'd rather die than tell you." She hissed. Cornelius looked at Dumbledore, not quite believing that he was letting her speak to him like that.
"I'll be back Black." And Astrid hoped he wouldn't return, but of course, the universe hated her.
