[14] : CORNELIUS FUDGE AT HOGWARTS
All Astrid wanted to do now was curl up in a ball next to Oliver and talk about pointless things. But of course, the universe hated her. For she was stuck in a chair, facing the unforgivable glare of the Minister of Magic, Cornelius Fudge. Dumbledore stared at her too, but his eyes were soft and kind towards her.
"You helped your father escape Black, did you not?" Astrid wanted to laugh, but she managed to restrain it. She watched Phineas lean forward in his portrait, most probably to hear properly.
"If I did indeed help my father escape, tell me sir, would I be here? Or would I be sipping coffee with my father?" Astrid asked, raising a dark brow at him. "I personally think I'd be eating cake and drinking coffee with him right now." She shrugged. "But I mean, you can honestly choose, coffee or cake and coffee?" She could see the small smile tugging at Dumbledore's lips. Cornelius, however, did not find it funny. He growled angrily at her.
"I have no time for games Black!" He roared, veins bulging and they reminded Astrid of Lucius when he yelled at Dobby. "Your father escaped! And you have something to do with it!"
"Cornelius." Dumbledore sternly said and the fuming man looked at him. "The child obviously knows nothing of her father's escape. Let her be." The man spit profanities under his breath. "I think it's time you leave Cornelius."
"Peace." Astrid smiled at him. He glared at her the entire way to the door. "I think I should leave as well Professor. I am—" Her stomach gave a loud growl. "Hungry."
Dumbledore smiled at her. "We should join them, should we not? They are going to worry about our absence." Dumbledore liked to make things dramatic, Astrid noted that. She followed him out the door and to the Great Hall nevertheless.
"Where were you?" Oliver asked, he looked worried. "I though the Dementors had gotten a hold of you, since you know, you are Sirius Black's daughter."
Astrid rubbed his knuckles and smiled at him. "I got a little visit from the Minister of Magic. It was very unpleasant. He thought I helped my dad escape." She scoffed. "I mean sure, I was planning this my whole life long and I spent my entire summer trekking to Azkaban and dodging Dementors and blasting my dad out of there." She rolled her eyes. "Please. It's like saying I stole You Know Who's nose!" She argued and Oliver chuckled at her, feeling his worries slowly drift into nothingness.
"You just had to, didn't you?" He asked with a brow raised and Astrid smirked at him and wiggled her eyebrows, while stuffing her face with random foods. "Have the dreams stopped?"
Astrid swallowed hard and looked at him. She had forgotten she had wrote him a lengthy letter explaining who Andromeda Tonks was, explaining that the woman with the silver blonde hair now stood elsewhere and that she could clearly see Cedric's limp body in the dream.
"No." She admitted. "I figured I'd tell you in person since school was coming around anyway." She shrugged. "I dreamt of him escaping again, hugging me then he gets killed, I even dreamt of uncle Remus." She sighed. "But just because he really escaped, doesn't mean uncle Remus is going to be here."
Oliver shook his head. "Never keep any of this in okay? Whatever you dream about, tell me, okay?" She nodded. "And might your uncle Remus be Remus Lupin?" She nodded again. "Well," Oliver said, pointing to the staff table.
Astrid's black eyes went wide and they sparkled. "Uncle Remus!" The girl had squealed and the Hall went silent as they all stared at the Slytherin girl. She saw Remus wave at her and she eagerly waved back. "I think I may be a Seer, don't you think?"
"Well, next to Trelawney, you are the worst Seer Hogwarts has seen." Oliver said and Astrid pouted.
"You didn't have to be so mean about it." She whined. "Just some encouragement from my boyfriend, it's all I ask."
"Okay okay, maybe you're a little better than Trelawney." Oliver said, pushing a stray hair out of her face.
"I'll take that." She seemed happier now, and Oliver didn't know was it because of what he said or was it because she saw her uncle Remus but he liked seeing her like this nevertheless.
"Well, you have to. I'm your boyfriend and you have to take anything I throw your way." He grinned at her. "No one is going to compliment you the grand way I do."
She placed a hand over her heart and gasped dramatically. "Oliver! I am hurt!" Harry looked at her and shook his head, clearly disgusted by their love. Hermione sighed as she looked at them, clearly wishing someone would hold her that way. Ron just ate.
"What can I do to ease the pain Miss Black?" Oliver asked in a silky-smooth voice and Astrid giggled, remembering her stupid crush on Gilderoy.
Astrid leaned in closer and whispered something in his ear. The trio watched Oliver's eyes go wide before he grinned. "I accept!"
"It doesn't matter if you do or not Ollie, you were in anyway." She winked at him. Then they ate before they could part ways. Astrid quickly pecked him on the lips, clearly excited to see her uncle Remus again and Oliver went to sleep with his heart nearly bursting from happiness.
*
Astrid's heart was in her throat as she watched the Boggart take the shape of Cedric, but he lay still on the ground. The whole class was quiet as they stared at her.
"You know the spell Ell." Remus said. He had always preferred calling her by her second name, at first it irritated her but she learned to love it.
Astrid stared at Cedric's limp body, even though she knew it really wasn't Cedric, she couldn't stop the tears from falling. It was worse enough she saw him dead in her dreams, but now here he lay, still as a rock. His brown eyes were on her, just like in the dreams.
She raised her wand and weakly said, "Riddikulus." She watched as his limp body suddenly shot up right. A huge red nose appeared and “Cedric” began dancing to a tune only he could hear. Astrid immediately walked away from the Boggart and Remus walked to her.
"Ell, are you alright?" She immediately shook her head and asked to go to the bathroom. Remus didn't press further and went back to his class.
Moaning Myrtle appeared from behind her and Astrid sighed. She had learned that the ghost liked to visit the other bathrooms. But she wanted to be left alone, she didn't want anyone seeing her like this, even if it was a ghost.
"Oh no." Her shrill and very, very unpleasant voice drawled out. Astrid gripped the basin hard. Her knuckles went white. "A boy tease you? Well, they are not very nice are they?"
"Leave me alone Myrtle!" Astrid cried out, hoping the ghost would leave her alone. But she was thankful Myrtle was not as bothersome as the poltergeist Peeves.
The ghost wailed and moaned but left Astrid alone. She relaxed. But then Myrtle came back, asking about Harry Potter. Astrid screamed at the ghost and slammed her hands on the basin, it broke and sliced her hands. She shot a glare at the ghost, and rushed to Madam Pomfrey, trying not to get blood on her robes.
