Mooni p.o.v.

(Finally, a p.o.v. of our favorite Impostor, Mooni! Yeah, it's Mooni-)

(Of course it's Mooni-)

(Who else?)

Mooni ran through the white halls of the building, their footsteps hitting loudly on the smooth floor. They almost tripped but their brother, Sunni, clutched tightly to their arm, holding them up. The two continued running, away from the angry mob that was chasing them.

Why was the mob chasing them?

Good question.

Mooni's mom was a crewmate. And their dad was an Impostor. Somehow, they had fallen in love with each other. And they didn't only have one child, but two. Mooni and Sunni.

At that point, the Impostor chief decided to kill off the 'traitors'.

Mooni and Sunni had only escaped the execution due to luck. But now, Mooni wasn't sure their luck would hold on for too long.

They turned the corner into another hallway. At this point, Mooni had no idea where they were going, but Sunni said they only needed to follow him. And so they trusted him.

Mooni always trusted their brother.

They reached an end which was split into two corridors. Sunni stopped abruptly as he turned to look at Mooni. Panting, he said,"Mooni. Listen. You have to promise me you'll do what I tell you. " Mooni nodded, too tired to protest. "You have to go down the left corridor, then turn right. Keep going, ignore everything and everyone. Do you remember the password? There will be a lock, then you'll be in after you hacked inside. There will be one escape pod. Use it."

It was so much to take in, but Mooni nodded once again. Sunni had explained it clear enough to them. "W-What about you?" Mooni rasped out, their throat hoarse from all the crying and yelling they did a few hours ago when their parents died. "I-" Sunni's words seem to choke in his throat,"I'll distract them. Now go." He choked out, his voice low.

"You-you can't leave m-me." Mooni hiccuped, their eyes desperate. Tears prickled at their eyes, they were not about to leave another member of their family behind. Especially not their brother. "You can't." Mooni said, slightly louder.

"I'm sorry. But you have to get out of here alive!" Sunni said. "Come with me!" Mooni pleaded, tears now streaming freely down their face,"Please!" Sunni averted his gaze. "I..." Sunni could barely make anything out, but he said,"No... they'll catch us... you... go." His voice was tearing up and his words were barely audible.

"Brother..." Mooni clutched tightly to their brother's sleeve, afraid to let go, to let him go,"Sunni, please..." Sunni could not bear to look at Mooni's face. "You promised me... now go."

Sudden footsteps were heard. The two looked up in horror as two large figures appeared. Mooni took a shaky step backwards. Sunni moved in front of his brother protectively. The two aliens grinned and one held up a gun, blood dripping from it's mouth.

'BANG!'

Mooni watched in shock as the bullet hit their brother's forehead. Sunni gasped and his legs gave way, falling into Mooni's arms. The wound was bleeding badly. "Sunni!" Mooni gasped, dropping onto the floor, their brother's head cradled in their arms. "SUNNI!" Mooni yelled.

"Go..." Sunni rasped out, and his eyes closed for the last time. Mooni let out a heart-wrenching scream in seeing their last loved one die. In their arms, too.

'BANG!' The Impostor shot another bullet at Mooni. Mooni looked up, their eyes brimming with tears. They swiftly dodged the bullet, skittering across the ground. Their lips pressed into a thin frown.

'Sunni... his dying wish...' Mooni thought, as another bullet was shot. It missed. Mooni wanted nothing more to die next to their brother, for all this to end. But Sunni asked this of them. They had to run, to live for Sunni.

Mooni didn't know where they found the courage or strength to stand up, and ran away, but they did. Bullets were shot, but they all seemed to miss their mark. The fluorescent lights flickered above as the Impostors chased after Mooni, yelling angrily.

A sharp tongue pierced the wall next to Mooni.

Mooni could see the metal door that Sunni had told them to go to.

Slamming their hand on the respective buttons, the door opened with a 'hiss'.

Mooni stepped into the room, the large white escape pod in front of them. Mooni ran up the steps, hammering on the door. It opened after a few hits. Mooni jumped inside the pod then slammed the door shut.

The Impostors ran inside, alarms blaring as the escape pod began to slowly rise away from the headquarters. Bullets were shot at the window, but it did nothing to the bulletproof glass. Mooni smiled grimly, knowing that they had just been fooled by their own creations.

It wasn't till the escape pod was far in space, far away from the hellish place that Mooni had called home once, that Mooni found the ability to cry again.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mooni sat numbly on the floor of the escape pod, sitting in a puddle of their own tears. Their eyes were red and puffy from crying, and they sniffed every once in a while. Mooni stared out the small window, their mind reeling from the events that had just happened.
Mooni thought they were rather overwhelmed.
No, that was an understatement..
It was traumatizing. Not only overwhelming, but absolutely, traumatizing.
Mooni had thrown such a 'temper tantrum' after they had gotten away, hammering angrily on the walls of the escape pod, cursing God for giving them this life, crying, screaming, their heart aching for Sunni to come back...
It was all a blur of emotions that Mooni could barely recall now.
They had let out all they had. Now, Mooni's heart just felt like an empty abyss. There was nothing and there would be nothing in it.
Until a purple blur whizzed by.
Mooni's eyes jerked wide open as they stared at the purple planet, covered with snow. "Polus..." Mooni muttered. The escape pod halted and changed direction, towards the planet.
A flame seemed to ignite in Mooni's heart. If the escape pod was landing on Polus, and Polus had been taken over by Impostors... that meant...If the Impostors knew about Mooni and their family, they would definitely kill Mooni. And Mooni didn't stand a chance of surviving... but maybe, that was good?
Mooni would be reunited with their family, at least.
Another tear rolled down Mooni's cheek, but they managed a sad smile.
They had fulfilled their promise to Sunni.
They had gotten out.
Now, their wish would finally be granted.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Landing on the planet, the first thing Mooni noticed were the other escape pods. People started to emerge from the hatches, and Mooni reluctantly stepped out too. What were these people doing here? They certainly didn't look like Impostors...

Mooni observed the scared looks on their faces. It seemed like they were crewmates, the same as Mooni's mom. A brown haired girl began to speak nervously, fiddling with her hands. She wore a white spacesuit. She encouraged the others to speak as well. Mooni didn't really hear what they were saying, until everyone's eyes were on them.

Mooni hesitated.

"I'm Expresso, and I'm non-binary, just so you know." Mooni quickly said, putting on a casual voice,"Calling me Moondrop or Mooni is also fine." Well, at least they had gotten over that one. Mooni didn't know why they were responding, they should've 'killed them off as the repulsive pests they are'. At least, that's what the chief said in his monologue before the execution.

Mooni wasn't like that. They weren't ruthless, cruel killers like the rest of the Impostor population... at least, they tried not to be.

Mooni thought it was going quite smoothly until a person with sandy blond hair tied up in a ponytail began to speak. "I'm Sunni." Something seemed to explode in Mooni's head as they tried to register what the person had just said. A low buzz sounded in Mooni's ears.

"W-What did you say was your name?" Mooni couldn't even recognize their voice. It sounded distant. "Sunni, is something... wrong?" Sunni asked, their voice so concerned even Mooni was convinced.

Sunni. Their name was Sunni. What kind of bad luck did Mooni have, to be stuck on Polus, with someone coincidentally named Sunni. Any thought about life being slightly more fairer disappeared at that instant. Of course, there had to be some kind of reminder of who they had just lost.

Mooni couldn't believe they still had tears, but it was a breakdown worth a Guiness World Record. Looking back, Mooni didn't really remember what they had yelled to Sunni, how mad or sad they had gotten, and how much they revealed about themselves accidentally.

Mooni stormed inside the Dropship, hoping to find some peace and quiet. Mooni didn't even notice Nexus-the tall black haired, red eyed boy, as Mooni recalled-coming up behind them until a lot later.

"What do you want?" Mooni snapped at Nexus.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Communication."
"Have to try!"
"We forgot the weapons."
"Oh my god, it's actually intact!"
Mooni vaguely remembered all that. They remembered them punching the window-it hurt- and making a weapon themselves. They remembered how they actually helped, for some reason, them send the S.O.S to Mira HQ.
Mooni was getting along so well with the crew, that they almost thought they belonged here. Yet, that small voice inside of them reminded, 'You're an Impostor. You will never belong. They will hate you if they find out. Do something!'
'Well, what am I supposed to do?' Mooni replied scornfully. They were getting tired of that small voice.
The small voice didn't answer.
It was only in the middle of the night, when they woke up, that they knew the answer. Aiden had just died and the mood in the Dropship was somber. To be honest, Mooni was terrified when facing Aiden. It reminded them of the day their mom and dad were executed. Aiden had that same furious and hungry look like the executor.
Mooni didn't know if the lights they sabotaged had anything to do with it, but they were just messing around. Curiosity got the better of them.
It came quite suddenly. Mooni woke abruptly to find themselves hungrier than ever. Buut it wasn't that kind of hungry-for-food kind of hunger. It was more of the... well, Mooni couldn't really pinpoint what it was at the time. They hoped food would satisfy it, even as they knew it wasn't that kind of hunger. It wasn't like they had anything else to eat.
Then they took a glance at the sleeping crew, then suddenly, Mooni's vision went red. They found themselves craving for blood. That was what it was, bloodlust. Mooni had the urge to get their weapon and stab someone, only for them to taste-or at least see- that delicious, red liquid spilling out...
(ew. seriously, don't actually think Mooni is this creepy. It's just their alien side acting up)
Mooni's hand found their handmade weapon subconsciously.
They crept over to a sleeping crewmate... Jessica, was it? Their weapon hovered a mere centimeter above her throat... Then Mooni came to their senses, jerking their hand away. Scrambling away, Mooni was consumed by a terrible fear. They were rational yet the fear wasn't.
They had just tried to kill someone. Mooni couldn't believe... they promised they would never try to kill like those ruthless Impostors. They swore they wouldn't follow in their footsteps, yet they had just wanted to. That bloodlust, where did it even come from?
Turns out, Mooni was lucky to have not killed Jessica. Caylee was awake.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The next day, Mooni decided to go along with the crew to do tasks. They were an Impostor but that didn't mean they couldn't actually do tasks if they wanted to. And right now Mooni felt guilty, and so they decided to go to Communication.

They were still confused by the sudden feeling last night, but decided to shake it off. It wasn't until they went outside, with the actual intention to do the weather node, that it came back again. Upon seeing the vent, Mooni's legs acted on their own. Crouching next to the vent, Mooni reached in and felt something...

A gun.

Mooni shook their head , quickly throwing the gun back into the vent. Yet... they couldn't get their mind off the gun. They jumped inside the vent and grabbed back the gun. Excitement coursed through Mooni's body as they crawled through the vent. They felt so... happy, for some reason.

Then a faint shimmer of light was ahead, and Mooni realized they had vented to Electrical already. Peeking their head out slightly, Mooni was able to spot Jessica and Lily talking in Security.

Their vision went red once again. Their hand automatically rose up as they grinned in glee, and 'bang'. The bullet found its target and Jessica dropped down dead. Mooni almost laughed out loud, feeling dizzy from exhilaration. It was so... satisfying, you could say, for Mooni to kill. "Was this what the Impostors felt when killing? It's... amazing!" Mooni thought.

Then they took another glance at the gun, and they were on the floor, crying and shaking. What had they done? Why had they done that? Mooni felt guilty beyond themselves, but what was done was done. But why... why did they feel that way?

During the meeting, Mooni's hands were trembling like crazy. Mooni had perfected their poker face for a long time already, it being an essential skill for Impostors, so nobody noticed that they weren't only scared, but guilty too.

After the meeting, Mooni quickly threw the gun in the lava, tears welling up in the corner of their eyes. Gulping, they ran back to the dropship.

There had to be a way to fix this. The death of Jessica wasn't intentional, but it wasn't like Mooni didn't want to do it either. Was there a way to fix this? It only seemed like fate was trying to tell Mooni that they would never be anything else than an Impostor.

Mooni's heart hammered inside their chest as they felt tears coming to their eyes again. If only they could make something good out of this death, maybe they would feel better. Mooni just hoped for Sunni, honestly. Their brother always seemed to find a way to cheer them up no matter what.

Then it hit.

If Mooni successfully killed everyone in this crew, certainly, the Chief Impostor would have to be impressed, right? He might reconsider killing Mooni, and he might just let them come back... so Mooni could kill them all, or punish them.

It wasn't only bloodlust that Mooni felt. Part of it was revenge. They wanted revenge on the Impostors who had murdered their family. But was it right, to kill off a crew of people just so Mooni could get revenge?

Didn't that mean Mooni was becoming the same as the Impostors?

'No.' A small voice told Mooni, that same irritating, annoying voice that had insisted on Mooni being nothing else than an Impostor,' This sacrifice is small compared to your vengeance on the Impostors! They will understand... or they won't. Your pain is too much for them to understand!'

Mooni shook their head. It was a terrifying and ridiculous thought. How could Mooni kill off innocent, unknowing people just so they could get revenge? The idea of vengeance was tempting but it wasn't right.

Little did Mooni know, they would succumb to this idea soon enough.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"And it was all a matter of time, before I decided I would do it." Mooni told Nexus, grinning. Nexus stared in horror at his friend. Who was this person and what had they done with Mooni? Mooni wasn't like that... but somehow, Nexus could understand.
Nexus wanted to speak, to tell Mooni this was all wrong, but no words came out of his mouth. He was utterly speechless.
"Remember when the lights went off for the second time? Yeah, that was me. Of course it was me. Who else would it be?" Mooni continued,"I didn't plan on killing Lily at first... but... well, I wanted to, suddenly."
"I won't lie. I panicked, and I quickly palmed the knife to whoever was close to me, then I ran for the back of the group. Turns out, Gladys got the knife. Somehow, she escaped being ejected." Mooni said, sighing,"Lucky her, but it didn't matter."
"I knew I would need to put more blame on her, and it was easy, since Caylee was super suspicious of her already. I just needed another death. Can't lie, I doubted myself for a little while, but Auburn... oh, she trusted Gladys so much that she let Gladys split up with her. Well then, I ran out of Lab, and stabbed her, before running back and stabilizing the seismic whatever-they're called. You werent even suspicious of me!" Mooni gave a short laugh.
"Well then, she was ejected."
"Y-You don't even feel bad for... for killing her? She was innocent! She was twelve!" Nexus said,"All these people, they didn't even do anything to you!" Nexus shook with rage,"This isn't right!"
Mooni stared at Nexus, then their eyes went dark. They threw their head up and giggled, a maniacal sound. They bent over, still laughing, then fixed their eyes on Nexus' ones. Their expression went deathly serious,"You killed her, Nexus. You pushed her."
"I-" Nexus was speechless once again. "She was innocent." Mooni said, mimicking Nexus' voice,"Oh, I feel so bad!" They said in a girlish voice. "I had to do it, Nexus. For revenge."
"You won't feel better getting revenge, Mooni. Please, this is wrong." Nexus pleaded,"Think! You can't possibly be okay-" "I'm not okay with it." Mooni shouted,"It just has to be done! For Sunni! You don't understand!"
Mooni stamped their foot on the purple ground like a child throwing a temper tantrum. They took a deep breath then calmed down. For just a second, their eyes reverted back to their normal red under the moonlight. But when they started speaking, they turned back to their soulless, creepy black just now.
"Then..." They faltered, seemingly confused,"Then, I-" "Who did you kill next?" Nexus asked coldly,"Bet you remember the sequence, everyone you-kill..ed..." Nexus gulped, he just couldn't bring himself to say it. As much as he hated Mooni for killing all of the crew, he still couldn't admit to himself that Mooni was evil, utterly and completely evil. They just... weren't, Nexus insisted.
There was something about Mooni's eyes that told Nexus. They were cruel to have killed them all, but Nexus thought Mooni wasn't thinking too rationally. As if some maniacal, homicidal part of Mooni was controlling them.
Based on what Mooni told him, it wouldn't be completely absurd...
"Nexus, you don't know..." Mooni started with a low voice,"It hurt me too. I'm not... completely overcome with bloodlust... I have a heart. You gotta understand, that.. that I'm just doing this because the Impostors are evil! They killed my family!"
"I cried in Specimen Room, I did... because it was stressful! I could die, you could find out and all. I doubted myself so many times but after all I know I'm right, this is right, this is right..." Mooni said, half crying now. They clutched their head, sniffing, and kept muttering the phrase 'this is right' over and over again.
Nexus was paralysed with fear. What happened to Mooni? It only confirmed his theory of Mooni not being able to think rationally, maybe, a parasite took control of them? Nexus had read somewhere that the first Impostor was actually a crewmate being taken control by a parasite, and that led to them being going crazy with the lust of killing.
Maybe Mooni had a part of them, an alien part of them, that told them to keep killing?
It certainly seemed like Mooni was trying to fight that part of themselves.
"Mooni, I- I know-" Nexus started, but then stopped, because he didn't know. He didn't know what was going on with Mooni. He recalled his first conversation with Mooni.
'I understand, you've lost a loved one too, haven't you?'
"Mooni, I know losing a loved one is hard." Nexus said,"I know it's hard to cope with, and you shouldn't be dealing with this at such a young age. But Mooni, revenge is never going to help anyone."
He decided to take a bigger leap,"I know something is telling you this is right and it's going to work. But from what you've told me, the plan, do you really think you'll be able to get revenge on the Impostors? It's almost a whole society against you. I'm angry at the Impostors too, and I might've been angry at you too, but I believe there's a better part of you. You're not-"
"STOP!" Mooni yelled,"THIS IS THE BETTER PART OF ME! The smarter, the.." Mooni was breathing very fast,"It is going to work."
"And I... I self-reported Ruth's body, yeah, yeah, I did that..." Mooni closed their eyes, intent on remembering all the people they had killed,"And... no one thought it was me. That's good."
'Okay, something is seriously wrong with Mooni.' Nexus thought,'It's like.. someone is forcing them to remember the deaths and be proud of it.'
"I talked with Tsunami." Mooni's head jerked up, their black eyes opening,"She... reassured me. It was comforting, talking with her. I thought someone understood... but I knew what I had to do. It was only a matter of time before someone thought I was suspicious, and my plan would fail... so... I had to fake my death."
Nexus found it absolutely terrifying that Mooni was talking about faking their death in such a calm voice, but at least they weren't talking in that crazed, frantic, desperate voice that scared Nexus.
Mooni continued,"I was walking the other day and I found a hole... like, a small one on the side of the wall... of the lava pit. So I talked with Tsunami, and I jumped down to make you all suspect Tsunami. Like she killed me. But she didn't. I threw my weapon into the lava to create that splash, and I slipped into that hole. My suit's purple so I blended right in. I hid there while you guys gaped and started accusing Tsunami... and you didn't even notice me!"
Mooni laughed, a chilling sound.
"Oh, it was such a good plan! Such a good idea! Then obviously, all the other deaths were caused by me." Mooni clapped, laughing happily.
"Show some damn remorse!" Nexus yelled,"Mooni!"
"Remorse?" Mooni said.
Mooni walked closer to Nexus. "There's a reason why I left you for the last. At least you would understand, before you died. Because you were my friend. My only friend. Caylee, maybe, but you were the first one that talked to me, made me feel better." Mooni said,"You, Nexus."
"You cared for me so I cared for you. Caylee was the second closest so I made you guys last. Obviously I knew you would win, and you would understand me. Because you're my friend. You'd let me do this, kill you so I can get revenge. You wouldn't put up a fight because if you were truly my friend, you would give your life for my happiness."
"You won't be happy." Nexus said, his voice a low whisper,"Please, Mooni, don't make me do this. You are my friend, yes, but..."
Nexus got to his feet, and reluctantly took out his knives,"If I have to, I will fight you. Your reason is understandable but still no reason to kill off this many innocent people who had a chance of getting off this planet! Have you forgotten?"
"Nexus... I thought... I thought you would understand." Mooni looked down.
Nexus said,"Mooni, I know the real you is somewhere inside, fighting the voice, don't listen to it! You still have a chance, if you'd stop right now. If not, I'll be forced to fight you... then at least, the crew didn't die in vain."
"You never were truly my friend... you hate me!" Mooni shouted, their face streaked with tears,"Why can't anyone understand? You just care for your own life!"
As much as it hurt Nexus hearing Mooni say these words, he forced out,"I'm not going to die today. And neither are you, if I can help it." "I don't care anymore. I'll still kill you!" Mooni growled and lunged at Nexus, their tongue outstretched.
Nexus jumped backwards and parried the strike with his blade. He took a swing, forcing Mooni back. Mooni raised a hand and Nexus barely had time to notice the bullet flying towards his face. It whistled past his ear and he gasped. It scraped the side of his head, bleeding.
Nexus winced but then took a hit towards Mooni's arm. Mooni sidestepped and their tongue shot at Nexus again. Nexus deflected it. Mooni suddenly took out two knives as well. 'How did they get so many weapons?' He thought, but then Mooni started attacking.
A hit at his right, a hit at his left, Mooni's strikes came as fast as lightning. Nexus was suddenly super grateful for all the training he got before. Even still, it was hard to ke eep up. Nexus was forced backward, until his back hit the giant rock.
Mooni's blade was immediately at his throat. Nexus panted as he struggled to speak,"M-Mooni, please-" Mooni said,"Goodbye, Nexus. I hoped to give you a painless, or at least, less painful death. But I guess you chose otherwise."
"It could've been so easy."
Just as Mooni thrusted their knife forward, Nexus stabbed Mooni's thigh. Mooni howled in pain as they staggered backwards. Nexus' hand went to his throat as he felt a slight trickle of blood. He grimaced again. Mooni opened their mouth, their eyes burning with rage. Nexus quickly ran behind the rock to catch his breath.
He knew that he wasn't going to win. If he could just take them both down together...
He got an idea. The lava pit. He had to lead Mooni close to the lava pit and bring them down with him. 'Let's hope this works.'
He ran out of behind the rock as Mooni threw a knife at him. He ducked and it missed, clattering on the ground. Another strike from their sharp Impostor tongue, Nexus stopped just in time. He kept running towards the lava pit, hoping that Mooni's attacks would not find their target and kill him.
He was a few meters away from the lava pit. Three meters now. Nexus turned around to find a knife hurtling towards his face. He quickly deflected it into the lava pit. Nexus found him eye to eye with Mooni.
Mooni hobbled towards him as he pretended to be exhausted. Actually, he was exhausted. He pretended to be giving up. Mooni scowled as they moved in for a final strike.
Nexus grabbed their arm and tackled them into the lava pit, falling together.
Somehow, Nexus' fingers found the edge of the lava pit and held on. Mooni grabbed on tightly onto him, their fingernails digging into his arm. He swung his arm left to right but Mooni didn't fall. A finger slipped.
Another.
A third.
Nexus grunted. He couldn't hold on for any longer. He had to let go... just then, he felt some weight being lifted off him. He looked down and saw Mooni's hand freeing him. Their eyes were red.
Then they fell and Nexus' hand found its grip again. "MOONI!" He screamed, but Mooni was already gone. They gave him a final thumbs-up before their hand went under lava. The lava churned and bubbled, as if it was laughing at Nexus.
Despite the heat, Nexus could still cry. Suddenly, he wanted nothing more but to let go.
Then came the sounds of a helicopter... no, thrusters.
Nexus tilted his tear-streaked face to the sky and was surprised to see a sleek, white spaceship about the size of a coach landing onto the ground. Big bold words were printed on the side of the spaceship, reading: SPACE RESCUE TEAM. So, they had finally come, after all this time. A black haired woman stepped out and held out a hand to Nexus.
Nexus took her hand and climbed up. "You're safe." The woman simply said,"Come on." Nexus didn't listen, he knelt next to the lava pit and began to cry freely.
He had survived... but at what cost?
