Chapter Two
Reanna woke up, still in the seat. She blinked away sleepiness, and noticed her mother hanging from her chair. She hastily unbuckled herself, then ran to her mother and unbuckled her from her seat. "Mom!" She cried, as she helped her mom slither to the ground from the chair she had been hanging from.
"Are you alright?" she asked, eyeing all the scratches covering her mother, all the blood. Then the big and deep gash in her forehead that was bleeding profusely. Reanna's mom smiled at her with sadness in her eyes. She knew that her life was slowly fading away, and hoped that Reanna would be okay. She looked at her daughter, and saw a great amount in life that could not be wasted.
Reanna clutched her mom's hand with all the strength she could muster. "Don't leave, mom! You can't go! You haven't had my baby brother, yet!" she yelled, tears running down her cheeks. Her mother caressed her face, then pointed to some gasoline leaks coming near to the fire caused by the crash. Reanna looked, seeing all the other people from the plane sprawled about, dead. "Honey, you've got to get away from here," she said. "You see that gasoline? Once it reaches the fire, BOOM! Got it? So you have to leave. Without me. And don't forget your pack! And bring mine if you can! You need all the things you can get!"
Deep inside, Reanna knew that she should, but she couldn't bring herself to do it. "Mom, I'm not leaving without you," she said stubbornly. Her mother shook her head.
"This is not the time to be foolish, Reanna," she whispered. "I'm already dying. Your brother's dying. The least you could do is fulfill your brother's, and my own, death wish. Please."
Reanna solemnly nodded, and stood to get up. Then she gave her a hug, and grabbed the bags that her mom requested her to get. "I love you, mom!" she yelled, as she ran farther and farther away. "I love you too, sweetheart," her mother whispered, but Reanna was too far away to hear it. Unfortunately, she was close enough to hear the big BOOM as the plane erupted with an enormous explosion. She sat down hard, exhausted and devastated. Her mother, and all the other people on the plane were dead. Her mother, and the baby brother that was to come in six months, dead.
It was too much for an eight year old to bear. She wrapped her arms around her legs, and started to cry, for the third time that day. It was a loud cry, the kind that you can't keep silent because it hurts too much to be bottled up inside She cried with the painful gulps that came in between. With each sob, it made her chest heave up and down, making her ribs hurt. Eventually when no more tears could be made, she decided that she might as well do something other than mope around, though she wanted to do exactly that.
She got up and looked around, searching for anything that would distract her from all this pain she felt. She spotted wisps of smoke come from the...North? Or was it the West? She knew she should've paid more attention in Girl Scouts. The only thing she'd ever paid attention to was eating those delicious cookies. She decided that she didn't care, just as long as she found it. She grabbed her and her mom's suitcases and began the long walk to the smoke billowing out of... whatever it was coming from.
The big, mysterious cave that might hold an evil, bloodthirsty creature with big eyes and a chilly smile, that would swoop me up and eat me in big bites, then swallow me whole, she thought grimly. Then she took a deep breath and boldly walked forward and into the mouth of the cave.
