II~Percy~II
Percy drove while the others slept. His eyes glanced to the boys squished beside him in the cab of the truck. The girls were currently unconscious in the back of the fake U-Haul truck.
Percy cursed silently, this is all Nico's and Leo's fault. Like things weren't bad enough as it is. He didn't need this right now. He had enough to worry about without three extra passengers to look out for.
He gripped the steering wheel tighter and clenched his teeth. He honked loudly at the car in front of him venting his anger.
Next to him Leo stirred. "'Rything 'sallright?" He asked sleepily.
"Yeah," Percy answered swallowing his anger. "Fine. Some people just don't know how to drive."
Leo nodded once with a yawn and leaned back over to claim Jason's arm as his personal pillow.
To quiet his thoughts Percy turned the radio on a low volume so he could listen.
"There's traffic all up..." Percy listened before quickly turning it off. Expecting something about the deed he had done to be on the air.
Then again it had only been a couple hours. It was too soon to report a kidnapping.
Kidnapping.
He had stolen someone. Two someones.
"Damnit Percy," He muttered to himself. "Calm down. You've done worse."
Percy took a deep breath knowing that his own words were more than true. He had done worse, much worse.
But it was all for the right reasons wasn't it?
He wasn't so sure anymore. Though it's not like he had any other options other than to follow the orders he had been given. That's all his life had been reduced to. Following commands. Day after day. Month after month. Year after year. He he was yet to see his prize.
He couldn't mess this up. If he did he'd be out of chances and have nothing to left to live for bedsides the Zero chasing him down and killing him and in a predetermined way. An order that had been predetermined by the higher-ups.
Even if he escaped the Zero, he'd be the reason the Zero died.
There was no way out. No way to win. Only to play a stupid game and hope for the best.
"Want me to take over?"
Percy was jerked from his thoughts by Jason's sleepy voice.
"Yeah. Sure," Percy nodded. "There is a rest stop in about ten miles. I'll pull over there and we can switch."
Jason nodded in the dark.
"Can I ask you something?" Jason asked after a short pause.
"You just did but go ahead."
"Well I know we were supposed to go on a mission before. But you were off he grid. Why did you go rogue?"
Percy bit his tongue at first trying to phrase his words carefully. Based on what he had heard of Jason Grace, the blonde was a "Golden Boy". Doing all the right things, not exactly someone Percy needed on his team. Finally Percy gave up and shook his head. "It's not that important."
Jason frowned slightly but didn't push.
They rode in silence to the rest stop. Once switching seats Percy ended up squeezed in between a sleeping Leo and a sleeping Nico.
Jason drove on while Percy did his best to get comfortable.
Percy closed his eyes waiting for the sleep he knew wouldn't come easily in the mean time he decided to try for a conversation.
"How long do you think it will take to get there?" He asked Jason.
"Not sure," Jason admitted. "Hopefully no more than a couple days. Still not sure how this is gonna work. We have three extra people."
"We can throw 'em out," Percy suggested sarcastically.
Jason seemed to take his words seriously. "The higher-ups don't know yet right? Can't we just ditch them all?"
Percy stared past Leo at Jason in the darkness. "No."
"No?"
"No," Percy agreed. "Despite the fact I don't want them... They are only doing what we all want. This world is everything for themselves. And-"
"Exactly," Jason agreed. "So-"
"You didn't let me finish. I was going to say that even if we did, the blonde has seen our faces. Plus despite everything, I have my morals."
Jason didn't respond, clearly unhappy at not getting the response he expected.
They silence became uncomfortable and it was finally broken by the sound of yelling and banging from the back.
With a groan Leo and Nico both awoke. Leo rubbed an eye. "I told you all we should've duct taped their mouths."
"You should pull over to somewhere safe," Nico advised. "We can let them breathe and get them to shut the hell up." Nico turned in his seat and banged back to which the banging inside momentarily stopped.
Jason sent Percy a look, Percy ignored it.
"Take the next exit," Percy told Jason.
Jason turned on the blinker and moved over. As they pulled off the highway the banging returned.
"One more and we're out," Jason stated.
Percy nodded repeating the words in his head.
One more and we're out.
One more and we're out.
One more and we're out.
He couldn't mess this up again. He was out of chances. He was going to get out here. He'd get them all of the guys of here. But he was the main priority. Rather- she was the main priority.
One more and I'm out.
