» Volume 3

After multiple discussions, and Steve being slower than everyone else at understanding concepts, the group had finally decided what was to be done about Will.

They would make the shed unidentifiable, tie Will up, and get to questioning.

"Are you sure this'll work?" Frankie softly questions, helping Hopper gather supplies.

"It's worth a shot, kid," he sighs.

Her skin is still deathly pale, and her face is sunken in as if she hasn't slept or eaten for weeks. Her lips are chapped and patchy, splitting towards the middle.

"Frankie, come here!" Steve calls from the hall.

The girl glances at him before dropping what she's doing and following him further into the hall.

"What?" She tiredly questions.

"Are you sure you wanna go in there?" He asks. "You could stay in here and rest a little—"

"No," she states. "I have to do this, Steve."

"I don't like this," he responds. "You aren't in any shape to be dealing with this sort of stuff. You're just a kid! You're sick, and you need to rest while you can."

"She can do it," Mike defends, coming into the hallway and out of hiding.

Dustin, Lucas, and Max follow, ready to defend her.

"Yeah, Steve, she can do it! She's like a super hero!" Dustin adds with a childish smile. "She's got super powers!"

Frankie grins in their direction, nodding appreciatively.

"You're kids. You don't know what she needs," Steve sighs. "This conversation is supposed to be between the two of us. Trust me, she's in no shape to go in there—"

"Will needs her," Jonathan comes into view. "He needs her."

Steve stares at the teen with deep thought. He doesn't know what to say next, surprised that even he agrees.

"Alright," The boy sighs. "You can go in, but you stay by Jonathan. Jonathan, you better not let shit happen to her."

"I won't," Byers swears.

"Hey! I could protect her too," Mike adds in. "I did at the lab!"

Steve glances to him, then back up to Jonathan.

"I think we'll let Jonathan take this one," he mumbles.

Mike sighs annoyedly, leaving the hallway with everyone else.

Frankie links arms with Steve, looking up at him with a reassuring smile. He smiles back, taking comfort in the calm look in her eyes. He just wants everything to be alright for her.

After much preparation, everyone is finally where they need to be.

Will is tied up, and Frankie stands nervously beside Jonathan.

She subconsciously takes his hand, and he looks at her with a soft smile. His hand wraps right back around hers, remembering to keep is promise to Steve.

"Alright, you ready?" Jim questions.

"Yeah," Joyce nods.

With that, he takes the alcohol, and pours it onto the cotton ball as he walks toward Will. With a deep breath, he holds the cotton to the small boy's nose.

Will wakes up with a large gasp, causing Frankie to flinch back.

As he comes to, he stares at the bright lights, trying to figure out where he is and what's going on.

As he begins to notice his restrains, he panics.

"What is this? What is this?! Why am I tied up?!" He begins to shout.

Joyce kneels in front of him.

"Will, we just wanna talk to you. We're not gonna hurt you," She whispers.

"Where am I?!" He questions.

Hopper moves forward, pulling his drawing of the shadow monster out.

"Do you recognize this?" He interrogates. "Do you recognize this?"

Will shakes his head nervously, looking around at everyone in the room.

Frankie ignores the rest of the questioning as she begins to feel suddenly very uneasy and dizzy. She knows that a blood loss will happen to her soon. She's losing so much blood. More and more each coughing session.

She's brought back to reality when Will begins to scream and the lights begin to flash on and off again.

She doesn't even realize that she's hidden her face into the cloth of Jonathan's shirt.

Jonathan of course hugs the poor girl back, feel tears well in his eyes as he witnesses his brother's outburst.

Joyce's calm voice causes Frankie to withdrawn in curiousness.

She's telling him a story about how she gifted him a set of 120 crayons. How he drew a spaceship that was his own original work, and how she took it to work to show off. She says how proud she was.

Will seems to calm down, and almost looks like he's coming through to them.

Jonathan moves forward next, talking about the making of castle Byers.

While he tells his story, Frankie closely watched Will. Her eyes begin to water when she realizes just how much he must be going through. She knows what that's like, and she wishes he didn't have to have it this way.

She's so dazed off that's she almost doesn't get to hear Mike's story. Almost.

However, she listens and is surprised at how similar their meetings were.

Hopper notices something, and forces them all out of the shed in a hurry, when they get into the kitchen, he pulls out a paper and begins to scribble out what looks to be Morse code.

"What happened?" Dustin immediately questions.

"I think he's talking to us, just not with words," the chief mumbles.

Everyone crowds around the table as he decides the message.

"What is that?" Steve questions.

"Morse code," everyone seems to answer, leaving Steve to feel stupid.

The word is "here", and everyone seems to light up with a little bit of hope at what Hopper says next to them.

"Wills still in there. He's talking to us."

Jonathan rushes to get his radio, and Steve pulls Frankie aside worriedly. She seemed to be looking worse, and he isn't sure if she should go back at all.

"Frankie, stay back this time," he demands.

Before she can deny his request, Hopper jumps into the conversation, pulling the girl back.

"We still need her help," he simply says before taking her back to the shed with them.

As they get back in, Mike moves forward to speak of another event.

When Mike is done speaking, Frankie steps out of the shadows, and Will immediately looks towards her as if he hadn't noticed her before.

She slowly kneels before him, still feeling very weak. Mike has to help her down, becoming more and more worried about her well being.

"Hey, Will," She greets softly, a cute smile forming on her features.

For once, his pale expression seems to darken into red. Hopper takes note of this.

"Do you—"

"You're sick," Will interrupts softly.

Everyone one in the room tenses up at his sudden vocal use, Joyce almost goes to cut in, but Hopper holds her back.

Frankie was doing something no one else seems to able to do; she was making him speak.

She glances towards hopper for approval to keep talking, and he immediately nods.

"I'm a little sick," she admits with a sigh. "I think I'll be okay though. You know, before you interrupted me, I was gonna remind you of our first kiss— now I realize how dumb that would've been of me. I mean, how embarrassing, right? Right in front of your mom."

The girl chuckles softly, beginning to blush in embarrassment at the whole situation. Then, she looks up at Will curiously.

"Do you want me to tell you about it?" She questions quietly.

"Yes," He whispers, an unexplainable expression moving onto his face.

She grins softly at this, reaching over and grabbing his hand. His face blushes even deeper, and he seems to be unaware of this, staring deep into the girls eyes.

"We were sitting in your room," she starts, moving closer to him. "I was holding your hand, just like this— a-and I remember I was so nervous— J-Jeez this is embarrassing, I don't think I can tell you with your mom and brother—"

"Kid! Just finish the story!" Hopper groans, all of them leaned forward as if they're watch some sort of soap opera.

"I can't! You're making this weird for me," she blushes, glancing up at Will who seems to be confused.

"Okay, Joyce, Jonathan, leave," Jim states.

Joyce looks at him offended.

"What?! No—"

"She's making progress! Just leave for a second," he begs.

"Fine," the stubborn mom grumbles, leaving the shed with her son.

Hopper turns back to the two, nodding his head.

"There, continue," he sighs.

"You and mike have to turn around," she demands.

With a large groan, they both do as she says.

Then, Frankie turns back to Will another soft smile. He looks down at her blankly, waiting for her story to continue.

"Anyway," She whispers so only he can hear, "we were sitting in your room, and I was holding your hand— just like I am now."

Both of them glance down at their hands, looking back up at each other with a small blush. Frankie's face seems to be close Will's again— just like it was then.

"What happened next?" He whispers, staring deeply into her eyes.

"W-Well," She stammers. "Next, we kissed. It was amazing— I think."

"Can you show me?" He softly requests.

Frankie's heart is thumping so hard in her chest that she's afraid he'll hear it. She remembers having so much confidence then, what happened to it?

When she doesn't do anything, Will leans in himself, kissing her with so much passion she almost passes out.

The lights flicker once again like crazy.

For a split second, she swears she hears his voice echo in her head. He says, "I'm sorry."

Hopper turns around when he here's Will's fingers tap against the wood like crazy.

He does his best to tap as much of the code he's trying to get across. Then, he pulls Frankie away from him and sends Will into another state of panic.

He's quickly put to ease when Jonathan rushes in and blasts "Should I Stay or Should I Go?".

Frankie is dazed by the kiss, a stupid grin plastered on her face for the rest of the interrogation.

Will is still in there somewhere.
