» Volume 1
*a month later*
"Shit shit shit," Frankie mutters, rushing to pull on random articles of clothing. Her alarm never went off, and now it's 7:55.
Steve is supposed to pick her up at 8.
He has been for the past month, and he's never late.
"Language!" Alex mutters, watching as the girl frantically looks for a clean shirt.
Frankie rolls her eyes and decides to pull on a simple tank top, despite the cold weather. It's the only clean shirt she has. Did she even put on a bra? No. She didn't.
She shrugs to herself and rushes to grab her backpack. As she swings the bag over her shoulder, Alex hands her two on the go coffees. Frankie gives the spirit a thankful smile as she walks towards the front door.
"One of those is for Steve!" Alex calls, knowing the girl might try to drink both.
Frankie laughs, "okay!"
Just as she's walking out of the house, Steve's car is pulling up. It's freezing out and Frankie really wishes she had more clothing on. A bra even.
As she swings the car door open and climbs in, she hands Steve a coffee. After getting herself properly situated, she realizes Steve's stare.
"What?" She asks, looking up to meet his semi-annoyed look.
"What the hell are you wearing?!" Steve questions, clearly not approving of her attire. Frankie rolls her eyes and sips from her coffee. "Uh, they're called clothes," she retaliates.
"You're practically naked!" He argues. Frankie doesn't say anything, she just awkwardly shifts under his hard stare.
Steve reaches into the back seat and feels around for something. An article of clothing to give her, probably. He unfortunately finds nothing, so instead he pulls off his own jacket and hands it to her. Frankie stares at the jacket questioningly.
"Put it on," Steve demands, shoving the jacket towards her. Frankie scoffs and crosses her arms over her chest. "You're not the boss of me! You don't even know me," she stubbornly refuses, not appreciating his sudden attitude.
"I'm not taking you to school like that!" Steve argues, putting his vehicle into park, "we don't move until you put the jacket on, and promise to keep it on."
Frankie sighs, but feels a little bit of relief to know someone cares for her.
"Fine," she grumbles while defeatedly pulling the jacket on. Once it's on, she turns to Steve expectantly; he still doesn't move to start his vehicle up. "I put it on! Now lets go before I'm late to—"
"You have to promise to keep it on all day," Steve reminds, cutting her off mid-sentence. Frankie throws her head back in a groan. "Okay, okay! I promise to keep it on all day," she swears. Steve gives a hesitant nod before taking his car out of park and starting down the road.
Journey plays quietly once again. Today's song being, "Don't Stop Believin'".
Frankie sips her coffee while Steve glances at her every once in a while. He hates to come off so harsh, but he honestly just couldn't let her leave in just a tank top.
"Thanks," Steve mumbles, "for the coffee."
Frankie nods her head, not in the mood for conversation. This makes Steve feel more guilty.
"Hey, Frankie, don't be mad at me. I just– you'd get sick if you went out in a tank top. Plus, middle school boys are trashy and—"
"Hey, Steve, I get it." Frankie interrupts, giving the high school boy a sincere smile. Steve smiles back with relief. "I hope you don't get cold without your jacket," Frankie says.
"I think I'll be alright," Steve reassures, "but keep that jacket safe, ya hear? It's my favorite one."
Frankie laughs at how serious he looks while saying that. She nods her head at him, making a mental note to keep his jacket close to her. Not that she'd let it go anywhere. It smells way too good to let go of.
Before they even know it, Steve is pulling up to Frankie's dreadful school. Frankie climbs out of Steve's car, and throws him one last look before closing the door. Steve watches as the girl walks towards the school doors, feeling a warm sense of what he might feel if he ever had a little sister.
"Have a good day at school, Frankie," he murmurs softly before driving away from the middle school and towards the high school.
He fails to realize that another high school male notices him dropping her off.

(I know it isn't the exact jacket, but it's the best picture I could find to fit a female frame. It's just to give you all a bit of an idea of how it fits on Frankie.
Also, can we please talk about how sweet Steve Harrington is to Frankie Prynne?)
