» Volume 2
"Ow! You pinched me with your teeth!" Frankie yelps, pulling away from Mike after about 5 minutes of kissing.
"You mean bite?" He laughs a little.
There's a soft silence between them. Then, reality hits them, along with a slightly awkward silence.
"What did we just do," Mike questions, breathlessly.
"Something we probably shouldn't have," Frankie blankly states with a plain look.
Mike looks at her for a second. She moves her head to look up at him, still pretty close to them. Their lips are both clearly swollen and maybe even a little bruised.
Then, they burst into laughter.
"That was the worst!" Frankie says through laughter.
"Hey! You're the one who leaned in to kiss me! And it wasn't that bad!" Mike snorts, nudging the girl a bit. "At least next time I'll know how to make out with someone properly."
"I leaned in cause I thought I wanted to kiss you, but turns out I definitely think we're better off friends," she giggles, calming down from her laughter. "My lips are sore. You definitely left a bruise."
"Let me see," Mike grins, moving forward.
He reaches his hand over to squeeze her cheeks, causing her lips to pucker.
"Ow, Mike," she grumbles through her puffed lips.
He examines the girl's lips with curiosity, still amused by the whole situation. Half way through making out, both of them realized they really weren't feeling it. Maybe they were just platonically in love with each other.
"Yup, your bottom lip is turning purple," he laughs.
"No way," she gasps, getting off the hood and rushing into the car.
She pulls down the mirror, and stares into it, delicately tapping her bottom lip. She flinches at every tap. A gasp leaves her as she notices the purple.
"Ah, shit, Mike!" She exclaims. "Why'd you bite me? You don't bite people when you kiss! I think, at least. Wait, do you? Have I been missing that step this whole time?"
"No, no," he sighs, climbing into the passenger seat and looking over at her. "I read it in a magazine once and I thought I could try it. I thought that's how older kids did it..."
"Older kids suck," she states. "Why would anyone find pleasure in pain?"
"No idea," he laughs. "So...."
"Friends?" She offers, throwing him a soft smile.
"Best friends," he corrects, also smiling. "Let's not ever tell Will or El about this."
"Definitely."
As soon as the two share a smile, Steve and the others come rushing out of the hole in a hurry, clearing having been successful with setting the den on fire.
Frankie rushes out of the vehicle, and so does Mike.
Everything seems to happen so quickly for Frankie. One second she's hugging Steve, and the next she's bent over and full on vomiting blood.
Heave after heave of blood spills from her mouth and onto the ground, empty more than just her stomachs contents.
"FRANKIE!" Steve screams. "Jesus, Jesus, this isn't supposed to happen."
"What's happening to her?!" Dustin shouts, overwhelmed by the loud screams Frankie projects as she vomits.
"I don't know!" Steve admits, getting teary eyed. "I don't know..."
"She's dying," Alex plainly states, appearing out of no where.
A girl like scream erupts from Lucas, and he immediately clings onto Max. She gives him a weird look, although also afraid.
"Who the FUCK are you?!" Dustin screams, falling back into the ground.
"What do you mean she's dying?! She isn't dying! They're closing the gate! She's gonna live when the gates closed!" Mike insists. "Right?! Right?!"
The ghost gives him and Steve a gentle look, and says nothing.
That pushes the two to panic.
"She isn't dying because of the second gate," Alex admits, suddenly look ashamed.
In a split second, the ghost is suddenly not gentle like they've all known it to be. The ghost is a completely different being— a monster like creature with a cynical smile ok it's lips.
"She's dying because of me," it laughs.
Then, it's gone again.
Steve is terrified. He feels completely betrayed, and absolutely horrified. That was not the ghost he was introduced to. It was different. It wasn't a ghost at all. More like...
"A demon," Tony appears. "Alex became a demon after feeding off Mrs. Prynne's energy for so long. That ghost has been with her far longer than any of us— although, Alex did not do this on purpose. It's just something that happens to ghosts when they've spent too long not accepting their death. Her energy was so easy to feed off of."
"What does that mean?!" Steve frustratedly shouts. "I don't fucking know what any of this means! Can we save her? WE HAVE TO SAVE HER!"
"Please stay calm, Mr. Harrington," Tony tries. "We must exercise her immediately and close the ghost dimension. It will still open annually if she chooses to open it. Now, though, we must save her soul before it's entirely consumed."
"How do we this?" Mike questions, looking over at Frankie who has now stopped throwing up and is simply staring of in the distance.
"Tie her up," he states. "Get her to the house quickly, and we need all the support possible."
The kids all share a look, and Steve frowns.
Frankie turns to them.
"What? No!" She chuckles. "Don't tie me up."
Dustin looks at Steve for what to do next. The older boy pushes his hair back nervously, realizing that Frankie was no longer herself. He simply nods.
Dustin seems to understand, motioning for the others to help him as he gathers the rope from earlier and starts advancing towards Frankie.
Frankie noticeably panics. She becomes frantic.
"No! NO! Don't tie me up! Don't tie me up! NO! GET AWAY," she screams.
It becomes clear that she isn't herself anymore when her voice deepens and her eyes glow a bright shade of light brown.
"GETAWAYGETAWAYGETAWAY," she chants, slowly lifting off the ground.
"Holy shit," Dustin mumbles, stopping in his tracks. "STEVE, a little help here?!"
Finally, Steve turns around, and frowns.
"I'm sorry, Frankie," he mumbles.
She stares at him confused. Then, he tackles her to the ground and pins her down with all his might. She fights it as much as she can, kicking and shoving everywhere she can reach.
"TIE HER UP, GO GO GO," Steve demands.
The kids snap out of their daze and rush to rap the girl's hands and legs, knotting them tightly.
