» Volume 2

"There," Frankie grumbles, standing up from the piano bend and stepping away, "you're all alive again, so leave me alone."

A round of cheers sounds from the ghost– humans.

"Thank you, Frankie!" Alex grins, following the girl as she walks to her room. Frankie only nods her head in response, wiping the blood from her nose. "Okay, now I need to ask you something in return," Frankie states, turning to face Alex.

"Oh?" Alex responds, giving a cheeky grin.

"Yeah," she rolls her eyes, "I told Will I'd go treat-or-tricking with him—"

"—You mean 'trick-or-treating'?" Alex corrects.

Frankie nods.

"Yeah, but don't I have to dress up, or something?"

Alex nods and begins to think up a costume. Frankie waits patiently, glancing around her room in search of anything that might spark inspiration.

Suddenly, a devious smile appears across Alex's lips.

"I have the perfect idea!"

Frankie raises her eyebrow at Alex's excited tone of voice. She shrugs her shoulders and simply allows Alex to takeover and do her costume/make up.

"What's happening?" Frankie questions, watching as Alex rummages through her clothing.

"Well, the other day, I saw your little friends playing Dragon's Lair, so I thought maybe you could dress as Princess Daphne," Alex explains. Frankie nods her head slightly.

"Oh, okay. I don't know who that is, but alright."

After about an hour, then girl is finally ready to go out.

"Thank god I have Steve's number, so I can ask him to drive me into town," Frankie mutters, grabbing a pillow case to use for her candy. Alex nods in agreement.

"Have fun."

Frankie grins widely before running towards her landline in the kitchen. Quickly, she begins to dial Steve's number, half expecting him to answer.

The line rings for less than a minute.

"Hello?"

Frankie sighs in relief at the sound of Steve's voice.

"Hey, Steve, its Frankie—"

"Frankie? Are you okay? Do I need to go over? I was getting ready for a party but I'll cancel—"

Frankie laughs loudly at the boy's panic before responding.

"I'm fine. I was just wondering if you could give me a ride into town," she explains, tapping her finger on the kitchen counter. There's a long pause of silent as Steve contemplates his options on the other line.

"Hmmmm," Steve pretends to think, "I guess I could make an exception."

Frankie smiles brightly, "thank you thank you thank you!!!"

"I'll be there in 10," he laughs before hanging up. Frankie puts the phone back onto the receiver, running into the living room and plopping onto the couch with a smile.

In exactly 10 minutes, Steve arrives and honks his horn. Frankie excitedly rushes out of her house and down the porch stairs. She climbs into Steve's car with a smile and turns to meet his expression.

He isn't smiling.

Oh boy.

She sighs deeply, preparing herself for whatever mood he's in.

"What are you wearing?!" He blinks, staring at her with disapproval, "I thought we talked about this!"

"I don't know what you're talking about," Frankie grumbles, "I'm not wearing anything terrible!"

"YOU'RE DRESSED AS PRINCESS DAPHNE. The whores of all whores!" He argues. Despite how angry he seems, he starts his vehicle and starts driving to town. No one speaks, but a thick tension lingers in the air.

"When we get there, you're putting my jacket on," he demands. Frankie shoots him a glare. The town is coming up fast.

"No! I like my costume–it's appropriate– I'm not wearing your stupid jacket!" Frankie argues, angrily crossing her arms over her chest.

Steve lets out a dramatic yell of frustration before putting the car into park in the middle of the street. Frankie's eyes widen in slight terror as he climbs out the car and goes around to her side.

What is he doing? He can't hurt her, right? He wouldn't! There's too many witnesses.

The kids trick-or-treating around them don't even spare them a glance, despite them being parked in the middle of the street.

The only people to notice Steve and Frankie's argument is Will Byers and his dorky friends. They all watch in worry, even Mike. None of them know what Steve is doing, and most of them didn't even know Steve and Frankie were affiliated.

Of course, Steve would never hurt Frankie. Never.

"C'mon," Steve grumbles, swinging the passenger door open. Frankie looks up at Steve confused and slightly afraid.

"W-What?"

Steve sighs and gently wraps his hand around the girl's arm before yanking her out of his car and dragging her towards the on looking group of boys. Mike's eyes widen as Steve drags the girl towards them.

"Stop!" Frankie grumbles, trying to pull out of his grasp, clearly not enjoying being dragged around.

He doesn't stop though. Not until they're stood right in front of Will Byers.

"Hey kid," Steve mumbles, while pushing Frankie in front of him.

Frankie yanks her arm away from him, quickly sharing an awkward look with Will.

"She's your girlfriend right?" He rhetorically asks, not giving Will a chance to answer, "keep her covered,". He then proceeds to pull off his jacket and force it onto the girl. "I'm serious, when I come to pick her up– she better be covered."

Frankie rolls her eyes.

"Steve, you can't—"

"I just did," he interrupts, giving her a cheeky smile and then turns and goes back to his car to drive away.

As soon as he's gone, she immediately begins to pull of his jacket, grumbling incoherent words. Will's eyes widen at her attire, and he immediately stiffens.

Wow, she's gorgeous.

Mike is the only one to step forward and hold his hand out. Frankie looks up at him confused.

"Don't take your jacket off, Steve said—" he begins rambling, not wanting to disappoint the high schooler.

Frankie sighs deeply.

"Yeah yeah," she hums, pulling the jacket back on.

"Hey! What's taking you guys so long? You totally ditched me at the last house— oh..." Max comes up behind the group, noticing Frankie's presence. She smiles a little at the girl, not expecting to see her.

"Lets go to the next house," Dustin decides, beginning to leave the scene. Lucas and Max follow.

Frankie glances at Will, and gives him a sweet smile. Will blushes and smiles back.

Mike doesn't even notice when her hand links with Will's.

(Clearly, Frankie was a very much more appropriate version of Princess Daphne— either way, Dad Steve was not having it.)
