A Place To Stay

It was a cold, blustery night, and Rose was outside in the brutal cold. It was a bone chilling 16 degrees, and she didn't even have gloves to keep her hands warm. She recently been kicked out of this apartment, for not paying the rent on time. Rose was homeless, and in search of a place to stay.

She walked hither and tither, until she saw a small red house coming up on the left. There was a blue Cadillac DeVille in the driveway. She ran over to the house, and rang the doorbell.

A man opened the door. "Yes?" he asked.

"Sorry to disturb you, sir, but I am homeless, and I need a place to keep warm," said Rose.

"What do you want me to do about it?" snorted the man.

"Please let me stay with you," said Rose.

"Go find a homeless shelter!" snapped the man. "I don't take in freeloaders! Beat it!" And with those words, he slammed the door in her face.

"I'm not giving up!" said Rose. She rang the doorbell again. The man opened the door.

"You again?" he hissed.

"Listen, bub! I am not gonna spend my time out in the cold, and get hypothermia! I asked politely, if I could stay with you!" said Rose, giving him a piece of her mind.

"You better leave, before I call the cops!" warned the man.

"Randy, for goodness sake, let that woman in!" demanded his wife. "She'll freeze to death out there! Come on in, Ma'am! I must apologize for my husband!"

"Thank you!" said Rose, walking inside. "You're truly a saint!"

"Pleasure was all mine!" chuckled Randy's wife. "I'm Lorraine, what's your name?"

"I'm Rose!"

"Nice to meet you, Rose!"

"Likewise!"

"Come sit by the fireplace! Warm yourself up!"

Rose sat by the fireplace, in the living room, and felt warm by the instant. "That's more like it!" sighed Rose. "Nice and toasty!"

"Get out!" yelled Randy.

"Randy, be quiet!" snapped Lorraine.

"I said, get out!"

"Randy, if you don't leave her alone, you're sleeping on the couch tonight!" warned Lorraine.

Randy just grunted, and stormed upstairs. "How ya feeling, dear?" asked Lorraine, sitting down on the sofa.

"Much better!" beamed Rose. "I don't have to sleep outside in the cold, do I?"

"Nope, you can sleep here, tonight!" said Lorraine.

"Thank you so much!" exclaimed Rose.

"Don't mention it, sugar!" said Lorraine. "Don't mind my husband! He's so rude!"

"He sure is!" nodded Rose. "Can I have something to drink, please?"

"Sure, what would you like, honey?" asked Lorraine. "I got Minute Maid fruit punch, and some Coke, although it isn't as fizzy as it once was."

"I'll have the fruit punch, please," said Rose.

"Of course!" said Lorraine. She got up from the sofa, and went to the kitchen, pour some Minute Maid fruit punch into a cup. She gave it to Rose. "Here ya go, hon!"

"Thanks!" said Rose.

"You're welcome, dear!" said Lorraine, sitting back down on the sofa.

Rose drank her punch. She was now nice and toasty.
