12. This needs to be addressed- Part 1

Not a rewrite note but it is a follow up from my notes in part 9 though and this is also addressing a confession i saw on instagram yesterday with parts of it saying that Santana's coming out storyline was messy and not handled well and Kurt's was done well and we got it sprinkled.. it felt like the confessor for the post didn't understand anything at all, and didn't get why Santana had that storyline and it annoyed me when they said that they didn't handle Santana's coming out storyline well and was messy and they shouldn't have done it and they handled Kurt's better and basically saying Santana's coming out storyline should have been like Kurt's.

So...

Following from my notes from part 9 and needs to be addressed and something for people to understand why this happened...

Firstly Trigger Warning: mentions of homophobia, bullying and being outed and the mention of the song cough syrup throughout this part, so read at your risk.

in my rewrite which is part 9 in this book, I would keep the storyline of Santana being outed like how the show did too but like i said in part 9 my rewrite will be about Santana like how Never Been Kissed was all about Kurt, and Mercedes crushing on him and everything.

This needs to be addressed:

The reason Santana had the storyline arc that she did in the I Kissed a Girl ep opposed to what Kurt had in S1 and S6 ep 2009 is because Kurt had the positive side where everyone is accepting of him, and his loved ones love him still especially Burt who always knew and still loved him and accepted him, and we see him even defend Kurt against Finn's homophobia,

we needed to see the different side of what could happen instead, what could happen if one was outed and the aftermath of it and we got that with Santana and got that with one telling her that the way she is isn't "normal." we needed Santana's storyline because her storyline is realistic too, and one people can relate to as well

Yes Kurt was bullied but people still loved and cared about him even Karofosky did in the end and Kurt still had Burt and then later Carole and all his friends, even the Dalton boys accepted him too.

Santana was the opposite, she lost a family member because of her sexuality. She was terrified of her sexuality that we see her with Brittany talking to Holly in the S2 ep called Sex Education about it, and how she's terrified and Holly speaks with her, helps her understand it all, and helps her through it. and helps her with accepting herself before she tells people and helps her accept her feelings for Brittany.

Yes Kurt was terrified but he wasn't as terrified as Santana was. Kurt already knew and accepted himself which we saw in the S6 ep 2009 and throughout S1 even when he told Mercedes in Never Been Kissed and outed himself to Karofosky too in one of the seasons, like Kurt wasn't as terrified to be open and out, he was only ever terrified to tell his dad. The whole school already knew about Kurt well before and Kurt wasn't fazed by it at all, only got bullied in S1 and small parts of S2 but then it all stopped and everyone accepted Kurt.

Santana was petrified to come out that she didn't want the whole school to know about it and know she was in love with Brittany, that she literally blackmails Karofosky and uses his own sexuality while he was unsure of it against him and to her own advantaged and threatened to out him too if he didn't comply to her wishes and help her.

(NOT SAYING WHAT SANTANA DID TO KAROFSKY WAS RIGHT OR JUSTIFIABLE AT ALL AND NOT EXCUSING WHAT SHE DID AT ALL, I'M SAYING AT THAT TIME IT WAS ONLY BRITTANY AND HOLLY THAT KNEW ABOUT SANTANA'S SEXUALITY AND KNEW SHE WAS SCARED BEFORE EVEN BRITTANY SPOKE ABOUT IT IN THE S2 RUMOURS EP WHERE SHE WORDS SANTANA BEING ON TWO TEAMS AS LIKING GIRLS AND NOT BOYS WHICH GOT TO THE SCHOOL'S PAPER TITLED: CLOSET LESBIAN CHEERIO WHICH FINN STARTED TO READ THAT VERY SAME EP, WE NEEDED TO SEE SOMEONE SO PETRIFIED TO COME OUT THAT THEY WANTED SOMEONE ELSE TO SEE AND FEEL THEIR FEAR AND WHO BETTER TO HAVE THAT BE PORTRAYED WITH THAN SANTANA THE CHARACTER THAT ISN'T AFRAID OF ANYTHING AND ANYONE IS AFRAID OF SOMETHING AND SOMETHING PERSONAL AND SHE WENT TO KAROFOSKY WHO WAS STRUGGLING TOO, AND AGAIN I'M NOT SAYING WHAT SANTANA DID TO KAROFSKY WAS RIGHT, OR JUSTIFIABLE AND NOT EXCUSING HER FOR IT ALL)

We needed to see a character struggling with it all, being terrified and we got that with Santana and also aspects of Karofosky too especially in S2 and aspects of S3 where Blaine sings Cough Syrup. And we even had the small mentions of Blaine's struggle and people hurting him for his sexuality which was later used as a Kurt Storyline for the ep Bash (Which to me is a little unnecessary for Kurt's LGBTQIA+ story and would have made more sense to Santana's LGBTQIA+ story instead as Kurt had the positive side with small negative parts whereas Santana portrayed the negative side with small positive sides, and at the end of the day Kurt just had a reused Blaine storyline and it felt as if the writers just wanted something parallel and have Kurt have something in common with Blaine)

Santana's coming out storyline with aspects of Karofosky in S2 and S3 was needed, and was handled well and maturely and was well written also.

Santana's coming out storyline was really realistic especially with her Abuela as there are families who don't accept any form of LGBTQIA+ and do disown and kick their family members out because of it, even with the God Squad in the S3 Valentines Day ep towards Santana and Brittany and Santana wanting them to sing to Brittany for her was realistic too as it focused on the religious point of view of it which was The Christianity point of view, and how they as Christians should handle it and what they should do. Should they as Christians accept Santana and Brittany and do Santana's request or not do so because it's not in the bible and to their religion its a sin.

Kurt never got any of that at all. it was all rainbows and butterflies with Kurt, and small things with Finn, Karofosky and the footballers. Kurt, and his relationship with Blaine never even got any hate from a religious point of view.

Santana even comments saying: I'm looking forward to the day my grandmother loves me again

opposed to Kurt: I'm looking forward to working with Vogue

Opposed to Blaine: I'm looking forward to gay marriage being legal in all 50 states

It's not always rainbows and butterflies and everyone is accepting of the LGBTQIA+ community with only small aspects of judging and harassment like we saw with Kurt.

Out of all the storylines in glee Santana's coming out storyline was one of the most realistic storylines and well handled storylines that Glee did.

It was a storyline that people in the LGBTQIA+ Community who were outed, disowned, treated differently and really petrified like Santana could relate to as well and not just have their LGBTQIA+ story and accepting journey be portrayed unrealistically to them through Kurt.

Yes they had Karofosky and small aspects of Blaine but they needed Santana's storyline more because hers it was her accepting journey we were following, Santana was a main character and one of the only few lesbian characters in the show it was needed and needed to be seen how girls in the LGBTQIA+ community is treated differently opposed to how boys in the LGBTQIA+ community are treated.

both sides of the LGBTQIA+ community needed to be portrayed not just have it that they are all accepted and loved like the storyline Kurt had.

I do not like Santana but she had a well handled storyline throughout S2 and S3 with her coming out and accepting herself and how those around her were affected by her, her sexuality and relationship with Brittany now than opposed to how they were before they all found out and it did not drag on at all. Kurt's relationships with everybody when he came out and dated Blaine did not change yes Finn was homophobic but Kurt's storyline arc needed that, and needed that person that was homophobic but also somewhat accepting that they still want to be around them plus Finn towards Kurt too also showed the opposite affect of having a gay guy crush on a straight boy opposed to Blaine crushing on Sam in S4 (I think) where Sam was cool about it and showed a different affect with a gay crushing on a straight guy.

Which is something that should have also happened with Santana too (but not her crushing on Quinn though)

The only thing that was a small let down was the I Kissed a Girl ep itself focusing on Finn and Klaine and not Santana herself which it should have been like the S1 Never Been Kissed ep and the S6 2009 ep was all about Kurt and his accepting journey and people still liking him with only small aspects of the others but not too much that it took away Kurt being centre of the eps.

And one small thing that could have happened with Santana's storyline too to make it more realistic, and more different to Kurt is her losing some friends because of her being a lesbian and with Brittany and for those friends to never be their friends again because of their sexualities and relationship. It would have been powerful to see that because it can happen too, and people can treat their friends differently because of their sexuality, and not want to be friends with them.

I strongly think that Quinn should have portrayed that. and portrayed her to not want to be their friend at all and treat them differently not just because of Santana being a lesbian and being with Brittany but also because of her Christianity religion and have them leave glee club or have Quinn just part of the New Directions and not be part of the troubletones or anything where Santana and Brittany are. Quinn and Joe both should have portrayed them treating Santana, and Santana and Brittany differently opposed to how they treat Kurt and his relationship with Blaine, and this would have worked with Quinn because of her lack of interaction and communication with Brittany in the show.
