{7} Coming Clean
***
They ran out into the hallway and into the nearest room which happened to be the lab. They all rushed inside and the last person in, Scott, closed the door behind them. He grabbed a chair and moved it underneath the door handle. Malina leaned against the table behind her as her heartbeat wildly in her chest. She held in her breath when she and everyone else saw a shadow move across the window.
When she could no longer see the shadow, she let out the breath she had been holding. She was panting quietly, trying not to draw whatever it was' attention. She had only seen it for a split second and it looked like a werewolf. Not the kind that she was used to seeing, but a more monstrous one. The werewolves she was used to seeing just looked like big wolves.
When Scott was sure the werewolf was gone, he spoke to Jackson, "Jackson, how many people can fit in your car?"
"Six, if two people squeeze on someone's lap," Jackson replied.
Malina looked over at him with a look of disbelief, "Six people? Really?"
"We barely fit in the back," Allison added on. It was really uncomfortable with two people in that small backseat. He really needed to get a bigger car instead of sticking with the small one he had now. He was delusional if he thought that six people could fit inside of it.
Stiles broke them up, "It doesn't matter. There's no getting out without drawing attention." Malina tilted her head to the side as she thought about it. Werewolves had very good hearing so it could easily tell if they ever left this room. No matter how silent they were, the werewolf would probably be able to hear them just by their heartbeats.
"What about this?" Scott walked over to a door and the group followed him, "This leads to the roof. We can go down the fire escape to the parking lot in seconds."
"That's a deadbolt." Stiles pointed to the deadbolt above the doorknob. Malina let out a deep breath, that was it. They were screwed. They were stuck here and they were most likely going to die here. Scott and Stiles started whispering to each other about something.
Lydia lightly tapped Malina's arm with her elbow, "What are they talking about?"
Malina shrugged, "I have no idea."
Scott and Stiles whispered to each other a few minutes more. Malina tried to listen to their conversation, but she just couldn't hear because of how quiet they were being. Scott finally spoke loud enough for the others to hear him, "I'm getting the key."
"Are you serious?" Allison asked him as he stopped in front of her.
"Well, it's the best plan," Scott told her, "Someone has to get the key if we wanna get out of here." That was true, but why did they have to basically sacrifice someone to get it? Going out there by yourself would basically be suicide.
"You can't go out there unarmed," Allison said. Worry and fear were clear in her voice.
An idea hit Malina and she didn't wait to voice it, "I can go get it." She doesn't know why she volunteered to do it. She didn't have magic and she couldn't exactly fight well. She had been practicing with her mother occasionally, and her brother whenever he was here, but there was no way in hell she would be able to go up against a werewolf. Damn her and her family's hero complex.
Everyone else seemed surprised by her volunteering as well. Stiles was not thrilled with the idea at all, "Uh-uh! Nope. Not happening. You're staying here."
Malina didn't feel like backing down, "Why no-" She cut herself off when Stiles gave her a look. Her going out there to get it was out of the question it seems. She just wanted to make herself useful somehow. Maybe her experience could have helped her when she went out there. She won't be able to see now.
Scott reached behind Allison and grabbed a pointer. Noticing everyone's looks, he said, "Well, it's better than nothing."
Malina only watched her friend with wide eyes, "What are you going to do to it? Poke it to death," She sarcastically clapped her hands together quietly, "Yeah. That's an A-plus plan for sure."
"There's gotta be something else." Stiles agreed.
"There is." Lydia looked to the cabinet that was filled with chemicals. That was actually a pretty good idea. They could mix together some of the chemicals to make a weapon to use against the werewolf somehow.
Stiles didn't seem to understand, "What are we gonna do, throw acid on him?"
Malina shook her head at him and facepalmed, "You can be such an idiot sometimes."
Lydia explained it to him, "No. Like a firebomb. In there is everything you need to make a self-igniting Molotov cocktail." Lydia spoke fast, but it was slow enough for everyone to understand.
"Self-igniting-" Stiles started.
"Molotov cocktail," Lydia spoke slower this time. It was silent until she noticed all of the looks that everyone was giving her, "What? I read it somewhere." It was crazy to Malina that her friend would even hide that she was smart in front of people. She loved moments like these when Lydia would show people how smart she was.
"We don't have a key for that either," Stiles stated.
Jackson broke the glass with his elbow. Malina turned to Stiles with her arms crossed over her chest, "Who said we needed one?"
Lydia started making the Molotov cocktail. Jackson and Malina would hand her anything she needed when she asked for it. This took two or three minutes of their time. When Lydia had made the cocktail, she put a cork in it and handed it to Scott.
Allison had tears in her eyes and her voice shook as she spoke, "No. No, this is insane, you can't do this. You cannot go out there."
"We can't just sit here waiting for Stiles' dad to have to check his messages," Scott told her. If they were to wait then they would probably be dead by the time that the police got here. Malina didn't really feel like dying today. But, on the other hand, she was also worried about her friend going out there with only one Molotov cocktail. Deep down though, she felt that he would come out fine. It was like deep down she knew something that she just hadn't admitted to herself yet.
Allison leaned her body forward over the desk so she could look him in the eyes, "You could die. Don't you get that? He's killed three people."
"And we're next," Allison let out a sigh at his reasoning, "Somebody has got to do something." Scott starting walking toward the door.
Allison stopped him in his tracks, "Scott, just stop. Do you remember-" She cut herself off as she cried. She tried to get herself together as she continued what she was saying before, "Do you remember when you told me you knew whether or not I was lying? That I had a tell," Scott nodded, "So do you. You're a horrible liar. And you've been lying all night. Just... Just please-please don't go. Please don't leave us. Please."
Scott turned to the others, "Lock it behind me."
Allison pulled him back and the two kissed. Malina didn't really think this was the time, but she still thought it was a cute moment. They pulled away from each other and Allison shook her head, trying to get him to stay. Scott walked away from her and out of the room. He closed the door behind him and they locked it behind him. It was later and Allison was still shaken up, "I don't get this. I don't get why he's out there, and why he left us. And I can't... I can't stop my hands from shaking." Her hands were in fact shaking.
Jackson grabbed her hands, "It's okay. Okay, it's gonna be okay."
Allison nodded, "Okay." Malina shook her head at Jackson. She couldn't believe that he would be so horrible. He was comforting her, but he was doing it to get her to like him. He was also doing this in front of his girlfriend. She just couldn't believe that he would do something so low.
Lydia didn't even say anything about it. She only asked him a question, "Jackson, you handed me the sulfuric acid, right? It has to be sulfuric acid. It won't ignite if it's not."
"I gave you exactly what you asked for, didn't I?" Jackson's tone was harsh. It was then that Malina wanted to punch him in the face.
Lydia nodded slightly, "Yeah. Yeah, I'm sure you did."
Malina shifted around trying to calm herself down, "I'm getting a bad feeling about all of this," A growl echoed throughout the school making her jump. Jackson suddenly fell to the ground, clutching the back of his neck. He yelled out in pain and they all stared at him not knowing what to do. Allison and Lydia help him up while Malina asked him, "Hey, are you okay?"
Jackson nodded, "Uh, no, I'm fine," He broke away from them when they got him up, "Like, seriously, I'm okay."
Allison shook her head, "That didn't sound okay at all."
Stiles started reaching towards him, "What's on the back of your neck?"
Jackson slapped his hand away and sighed, "I said I'm fine."
Lydia, knowing that Jackson wasn't going to say anything, answered for him, "It's been there for days. He won't tell me what happened." He would find any way to avoid the question whenever Lydia would ask. He just became so harsh and rude when asked about it too.
"As if you actually care." Jackson snapped at her.
"All right, can we not argue for half a second here?" Stiles inquired.
Malina nodded in agreement, "Stiles is right. Arguing's not going to get us anywhere."
Allison was still freaking out over Scott, "Where's Scott? He should be back by now," The group heard a noise and looked to the door. A shadow could be seen in front of the door, "Scott!" Allison exclaimed. She ran to the door and tried to open it, but it wouldn't budge, "Scott!"
"Where's he going?" Lydia questioned.
"Scott," Allison banged on the door, "Scott. Scott! Scott!"
"Stop," Lydia said suddenly. "Stop!" Lydia shouted. Everyone looked over to her to see what she wanted, "Do you hear that? Listen."
Malina listened closely. She let out a breath of relief at the sound she heard, "Thank God," The sound of sirens in the distance. The five of them ran to the window to see the police pulling up to the school. The police had come in and got them. The group was now outside, including Scott. Malina had been thinking about her friends and tonight when she finally found figured it out. Why Scott felt like he had to take control of the situation, why he's been so different lately.
She walked over to them when she saw Sheriff Stilinski walk away from them, "You know, you guys have been hiding something from me... And I think I know what now." Malina said as she approached them.
"Hiding something?" Stiles questioned. He instantly became nervous, "We would never hide something from you."
Malina laughed, "You're a terrible liar, Stiles."
Scott walked closer to his friend, "What do you think we're hiding?"
Malina crossed her arms, "That werewolves exist... And Scott is one," The two of them looked at her in shock. They tried to convince her that it wasn't true, but she knew better, "Convincing me isn't going to get you anywhere. I actually have something to tell you so meet me at my house after this."
"What do you mea-" Stiles started to ask.
Malina cut him off whenever she saw her mom, "My mom's here," She started heading over her way, but stopped and turned back to them, "Remember to come over after this." She walked over to her mom and the first thing she did was hug her.
***
Aria had brought her daughter home and the first thing Malina did was sit down on the couch. Her mother had given her some tea to help calm her down and it helped a little. She was just waiting for the guys to come over so she could tell them her biggest secret. She told her mom about how she was going to tell them and her mom didn't seem to mind. Aria trusted Stiles and Scott.
Malina was bouncing her leg and biting her nails as she waited for them to come. Her mother walked out of the kitchen to check on her, "Hey, are you sure that you want to tell them?" Malina looked over at her mom in confusion. She thought that she was fine with it? "I'm not saying that they aren't going to keep the secret, but you just seem really nervous. You don't have to tell them because you found out their secret."
Malina shook her head, "No, I have to tell them. I've been keeping this secret long enough and I need to tell someone." She had been waiting for this moment. She wasn't only nervous about what they would think but relieved that she wouldn't have to carry this burden by herself anymore.
There was a knock at the front door and Aria smiled at her daughter, "Well, looks like you won't have to keep it any longer."
Malina shot up off of the couch and ran to answer the door. She practically swung the front door open, "Hey, guys. Come on in. Let's go to my room to talk." The three of them started making their way to the stairs.
"Hey, Mrs. Mills." The boys greeted Aria.
"Hey, Stiles," Aria smirked, "Wolfie."
Malina's eyes widened and she spoke to her mom with a warning tone, "Mom," The boys had frozen in shock. She had been waiting to tell them that her mom knew after she told them everything, but her mom spoiled that. Malina turned back to them and tried to reassure them, "Don't worry. You can trust her. She has something to do with what I'm going to tell you," They calmed down a little and they went upstairs to Malina's room. They made themselves comfortable. Malina spoke first, "Now, tell me everything with you guys first," They explained what had happened with them and all about how they got into their situation to her, "That's everything?"
Scott nodded, "Yeah."
Stiles had a confused look on his face, "Why aren't you freaking out?"
Malina smiled and laughed, "I'm the daughter of the Cheshire Cat and my dad is the adoptive son of the Evil Queen. I am also related to many other fairy tale characters... Werewolves don't surprise me.
"Cheshire Cat?"
"Evil Queen?" Scott and Stiles asked at the same time.
Malina froze and her eyes widened, "Oh, yeah. I forgot that I haven't told you yet. You might want to get comfortable. I could tell you the long version, but I think I'll stick with the shortened version," Malina got herself comfortable then started to explain as best as she could, "My mom and my dad had this book that they really loved as a kid that was given to my dad by their teacher who my mom was actually living with. In this book were different fairy tales, but they were different from the ones that we know. At the end of the book, the Evil Queen cast a curse that would send them somewhere horrible... Here. Everyone was brought to a town in Maine called Storybrooke."
"Storybrooke?" Stiles inquired with a small smile.
Malina laughed, "Yeah, I know. It's a really obvious name," It was like the town was trying to be figured out by other people. It's a good thing that Storybrooke wasn't on a map, "Back to the story, when they were in the town, they did not remember who they originally were and they had false memories. The only one who could save them was the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming who they called the Savior. Snow White and Prince Charming had saved their daughter by giving her to their friend, the Cheshire Cat, so she could get her to a magical wardrobe that would save the baby from the curse. Twenty-eight years after the curse had been cast, my dad brought his birth mother to Storybrooke so she could break the curse seeing as she was the Savior."
Scott crossed his arms, "Was the curse broken?"
"Yes," Malina replied, "Also, the story my dad wrote was actually the longer version of what I just told you," She added on, "So if you guys want to borrow it and read it, you can. There's also a sequel version of it that he's going to send to me. It's based on everything after that book. It has to deal with the second curse and my evil grandmother."
"The Evil Queen?" Scott questioned.
Malina shook her head, "No, she's actually good now."
"That's not confusing at all," Stiles's voice was dripping with sarcasm, "You said you were related to many fairy tale characters... Who are they?"
Malina let out a breath. She was kind of hoping this wouldn't come up. There were a lot of fairy tale characters she was related to. It confused her after a certain point, "I will only list off a few of them because there is a lot. My mom is the Cheshire Cat-" Just then, Aria walked into the room, "Oh, hey, Mom."
Scott looked at the older woman in shock, "You're the Cheshire Cat?"
Aria laughed in amusement at his reaction, "Yep. I can even do magic."
Stiles had a skeptical look on his face, "Prove it."
Aria held out her hand in front of her. A cloud of smoke appeared out of nowhere and when it cleared, Stiles' bat was in her hand. She held it out to him, "Is this yours?"
Stiles took it from her, "But that was in my room. How'd-"
Aria smirked, "Magic. Percy actually has magic, too. Their father and Malina don't have magic though," She turned to Malina, "So what are you telling them now?"
"About who all we're related to. You want to take over?" Malina asked her mother.
"My pleasure," Aria sat down beside her daughter on the bed, "I'm the Cheshire Cat, her grandmother is the Savior who broke the curse, her adoptive grandmother is the Evil Queen. Then we have her great-grandparents who are Prince Charming, Snow White, Rumplestiltskin," Aria's face suddenly turned grim as she mentioned the next person, "And Esmeralda."
Stiles raised an eyebrow, "Esmeralda from the Hunchback of Notre Dame?"
Malina sighed and nodded, "Yeah, she's not as good as she's cracked out to be." Her grandmother changed her name to Liliana after disowning her family. She tricked her grandfather, King of Wonderland, into marrying her so she would have more power. She treated her mother awful because her mom had magic while she treated her Aunt Jenna, whose name used to be Lydia, like an angel. She also killed some of her mother's closest friends and her own sister. There's even more, but it would take forever to explain it.
Aria quickly moved on after that topic, "Her great-great-grandfather is Peter Pan who is also not as good as he's made out to be. The little bas-"
"Mom!" Malina exclaimed, cutting her mom off.
"Sorry," Aria said, but she had a smirk on her face showing that she wasn't sorry. Her mother hated Peter Pan after kidnapping her father and trying to take her father's heart when her parents were younger. Her father had the heart of the Truest Believer and Pan wanted it because it would make him live longer. "Her aunts are a different version of Cinderella," There were actually multiple versions of the fairy tale characters they knew. It was really cool, "And Anastasia. There's a lot more, including the Dark Fairy, Belle, the Wicked Witch, and the Queen of Hearts, but we would be here for a while if we continued."
Stiles hesitated before saying, "You're family's complicated."
"Tell me about it," Malina laughed. She thought about telling them another detail. It was confusing, to say the least because they didn't even think it was possible until it actually happened. She finally decided to tell them and see how they would react, "Oh... Did I forget to mention that my mom is the reincarnation of the Greek goddess Hecate?"
"What?" The boys' voices were loud and their eyes were wide open, mouths dropped open in shock. The two girls laughed at their reactions.
