A Cure for Deadly Powers (Sci-Fi) (D)

World Building: In this world, there are some people who are born with powers. They include, but aren't limited to, Pyrokinesis, Telekinesis, Clairvoyance, and Telepathy. When a child is born, they are tested for a power, and everyone is required. You could tell if a person has been tested if their arm has a small black dot. The reason is that if a person uses their powers, they die within 12 hours. Luckily, if you're aware of the powers, you can prevent yourself from using them, but in a period of stress, they might accidentally be let loose. To prevent death, there's a cure. If administered before death, it'll save the person. Unfortunately, it's very expensive and so the person is usually contracted into working for the government to pay off their debt. It also has awful side effects. The person has nearly permanent black bags under their eyes, and it knocks you out for one day after use. It makes the person irritable and grumpy, and their hands usually shake a lot. They get dehydrated easily as well. There's a twist on this though, that now one's aware of. The "Test" for powers is actually a virus that will kill anyone that uses their powers. The cure will save them, but gives the person awful side effects. This was all developed by the mayor/president/leader, who has the power of immortality, and wants to keep people with powers from being too powerful. It was developed XXX years ago because of a rebellion.

Main character A was not tested as a child, because A's mother/father (B) already knew they had a power. B got A a tattoo so they didn't have to take the test. When A is XX years old, they accidentally use their powers to prevent them from dying. The government administers DT-40 and A is forced to work for the government in some job where they're required to use their power. After using their power and not dying, they become suspicious of the government's motives. A then finds out about the government's motives, and tries to stop them.

Notes: Originally, A was a boy. He had telekinesis, and he used it stop an object from falling on him, and that's why he got DT-40 (what I called the cure). He was aware he was never really tested, but didn't tell anyone. The name of the drug stood for "Don't Take, 40th Version". It's a little cliche so you can change it. This story should probably not be comedic. As for how A gets into the rebellion, I had him joining a small rebel group, and convincing his teammates to join them. Oh yeah, in my version he was an assassin too, and his team killed people in a war.
