So I'll Like to Talk about one of Those Fires, That Being a Fire that Changed the Way Workers are Protected and Stay Safe on There Job when Horrific Disasters Like This Happen This Happen in 1911, 111 Years ago, It was Debuted the Triangle Fire, so let's talk about this Historic Fire and How it became one that had Changed Safety Laws today.

(What Was The Triangle Fire?)

The Triangle Fire also Called The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire, Which happened in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City, March 25, 1911, was the deadliest industrial disaster in the history of the city, and one of the deadliest in U.S. history.

About Half-600 People Died in This Fire Most of the victims were recent Italian or Jewish immigrant women and girls who at age of 14 to 23 Years Old, Because the doors to the stairwells and exits were locked - Which was a common practice at the time to prevent workers from taking unauthorized breaks and to reduce theft - many of the workers could not escape from the burning building and jumped from the high windows.

(The Tragedy in a New York Sweatshop)

In Late Afternoon Saturday On March 25th 1911, Flames had Suddenly erupted on the 8th Floor of The 10 Story Asch Building in The Corridor of Green Street and Washington Place In New York City.

With in Those Minutes 100 Young Garment Workers who worked for The Triangle Shirtwaist Company had been Trapped behind locked doors 100 feet to 31 matters above ground, Sooner Then Later on the 9th and 10th floors workers up there were also surrounded by Fire before Fireman could bring the Fire Under Control 146 to more than 600 workers had perished in the flames.

This Had Became the Worst fire in New York History, The Triangle Shirtwaist Company workers were mostly young Jewish and Italian Immigrant girls who were between 13 and 23 Years Old, who all had worked in CROWDED UNSAFE CONDITIONS! In the loft building.

Although its builders had claimed the structure was "Fireproof" But the Asch Building HELD A LOT OF DANGERS!, and here's why!,

#1: It's door's were opened inwarded!, #2: it only had one single fire escape!, that was only 12 feet to 3.6 meters above the skylight.

And even if the Three Floors that were occupied by the company, have been beyond 85 foot long to 26 meters had lest fire equipment there was no sprinkler system in the building, The Cause of fire was unknown when the Story of America Card came out in 1979, now a days it seems to be confirmed by The Fire Marshal concluded that it was likely caused By the disposal of an unextinguished match or cigarette butt in the scrap bin.

The way how it spread was discovered that before 5 PM Some Men had try to put it out with pails of water but this made the fire spread though some flimsy fabrics and it got all over the Floors, The Elevator operators had Heroically run the machinery as long as they could and had Saved many lives.

Some Workers had used the Single fire escape others had climbed to the roof but once the fire department arrived the rescue had became impossible, The Ladders could only reach the 7th Floor and the Girls on that Floor try to jump in the Safety Nets but Fell Through them and Plummeted on the pavement and Many others had died from burns and asphyxiation.

On April 11th 1911, The Owners of the Company Isaac Harris and Max Blanck, were charged with Manslaughter, But with that the Horror had aroused and terrified the Public and a reform movement had begun, Mass Protests by Unions focused a lot of Public Attention on the Fire, and so finally on June 30th 1911, a Factory investigating commission was established to investigate industrial fire hazards throughout the state.

The Commission's Resort led to a revised building code and also revised labor laws, with this ensuring greater safety for all New York's workers.

(Triangle Fire Survivors)

Now There were survivors of this disaster too, of them who happen to live up to a centerain (Centerain is a name given to a person who reaches 100 years old, Betty White was almost there as a matter of fact).

Bessie Cohen who was only 19 years old when it happened, died at 107 years old in 1999, according to the date of this New York Times article i found, she had escaped the fire and died on a sunday in Los angeles.

The Very last Survivor Rose Freedman died in 2001, also at age 107, she also escaped the fire and was only 2 days to her birthday where she would be 18 years old.

(Remembering Triangle Fire Incident)

An Event was Held to Remember the Triangle Fire more than 200 organizations and individuals formed in 2008 to encourage and coordinate nationwide activities commemorating the centennial of the fire.

And From July 2009 through the weeks leading up to the 100th anniversary, the Coalition served as a clearinghouse to organize some 200 activities as varied as academic conferences, films, theater performances, art shows, concerts, readings, awareness campaigns, walking tours, and parades that were held in and around New York City, and in cities across the nation, including San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Minneapolis, Boston and Washington, D.C.

A memorial "of the Ladies Waist and DressMakers Union Local No 25" was erected in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Maspeth, Queens. It is a series of stone columns holding a large cross beam. Much of the writing is no longer legible due to erosion.

(Ending)

And This is the Triangle Fire, this fire will not be forgotten and I hope this also helps it be remembered and the Card with the Information i used to make this and what's also crazy is it's very easy to find photos of the disaster and the people who died in fire with as you see all in row in what looked like to be coffins but so I'll see you next time when i go over another Story of America Card.
