Attack on Pearl Harbor

So the event I'm about to talk about is only about the attack that occurred December 7th 1941, not about Pearl Harbor in general just the attack, which is devastating because of the injuries and deaths let alone what brought america in the second world war, so this is The Attack of Pearl Harbor from the Wars abroad in Story of America Cards.
(What was the Attack on Pearl Harbor?)
The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise military strike by the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service upon the United States against the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, Hawaii, just before 8:00 a.m in local time on Sunday, December 7, 1941. The United States was a neutral country at the time; the attack led to its formal entry into World War II on the side of the Allies the next day. The Japanese military leadership referred to the attack as the Hawaii Operation and Operation AI, and as Operation Z during its planning.
(A Day of Infamy)
The attack came out of the sky above the still sleeping city of Honolulu, Hawaii, at about 8 A.M on Sunday morning, December 7th 1941. Several thousand miles to the east, in the United States, it was early afternoon, and millions of Americans were glued to their radio sets listening to their favorite football games.
Then, suddenly, the games were interrupted by the terse, dramatic announcement that America's principal naval base in the Pacific Ocean, Pearl Harbor, had just been attacked and virtually destroyed by Japanese aircraft. Later, a somber President Franklin D. Roosevelt spoke to the nation in a radio address, calling it a "day that will live in infamy". And announced America's official entry into World War II.
The surprise attack, which caught the U.S. completely off guard, had been launched from 200 miles north of Pearl Harbor from the decks of six aircrafts carriers belonging to the Japanese Imperial Navy under command of Admiral Yamamoto. In less than two hours, they destroyed two U.S battleships and badly damaged six others.
Only 6 U.S. planes managed to get into the air to defend against their Japanese attackers. Of the 394 American planes in the area, 140 were demolished and 80 damaged, most of them on the ground.
The assault took 2,330 American lives and left 1,145 wounded. It was the most humiliating defeat ever suffered by American forces. The Japanese, who had no intention of actually invading the islands, withdrew virtually unscathed having lost only 29 planes and five midget submarines.
The attack had tremendous consequences, The European was instantly a global conflict, and the immense resources of the United States were thrown against both Germany and Japan. The attack also established the airplane as the superior weapon in naval warfare.
After December 7th, the battleship played second fiddle to the aircraft carrier. Thus six American carriers, the only ones that had escaped damage, having been away from Pearl Harbor at the time of the attack became the mainstay of the Pacific fleet during 1942.
Responsibility for America's unpreparedness has never been completely defined. Most military historians admit that America's leaders were convinced that Japan would never dare attack, primarily because its Navy and economy were too weak to wage a major war.
(The Day that will always live in infamy)
(My Dad Reynaldo Rodriguez will be reading this part in the video).
Franklin D. Roosevelt as you know said this day will always live in Infamy, he was right about that, and every December 7th all schools throughout the country have a moment of silence to remember the people who perished during it and fought back against it, As being American and growing up in the U.S, I myself had partaken in that moment of silence as it's for respect.
As requested from my father; he has suggested I mention these topics for Pearl Harbor about the attack. There is the movie; Tora Tora Tora! Which was a collaboration film with Japan and America in the 1970s, the name "Tora Tora Tora" was actually the japanese code to start the attack and "Tora" means "Tiger" in Japanese so basically it's "Tiger, Tiger, Tiger" if you want to put it that way, also Tora's the female name for Thor as well.
In the film it shows both sides of the conflict, each was allowed to film their views on it from Japan and America all together in this film.
And the USS Arizona, one of the battleships shucked at Pearl Harbor is still underwater to this day as a memorial for that day in infamy.
(Ending)
And that is on the Attack of Pearl Harbor from the story of america card and my take on it as well, I hope you enjoyed it and I'll see you next time in my other story of america cards new and old.
