Train Ride Romance

Taking the train to work in the mornings has become a part of my daily routine. One thing I've noticed is that I see a lot of the same faces around the same time. One of those faces belongs to a guy. I don't know his name, I don't even know if he notices me, but I see him sometimes. He always holds a red thermos, and he always takes the seat three down from the door.

One day I got on the train and decided to sit across from where he always sits. I sat and when he got on the train I looked up and smiled at him. He looked surprised for a moment but smiled back at me. "Hi" He spoke as he moved to his seat. "Morning" I returned. "What have you got there?" He questioned, motioning toward the box in my hands.

I cracked open the lid and tilted the box towards him. He leaned forwards to look inside. "I made cookies last night for my coworker, she's going on maternity leave and I wanted to do something for her." I smiled, looking down and the cheerful daisies I frosted on last night. "That's incredibly sweet of you to do." He beamed back at me. I shut the lid and laughed softly. "Was that a pun I just heard?". He chuckled back, "No pun intended. I just need to find better adjectives."

"Where are you headed?" I settled the box back onto my lap and leaned forward slightly. "I'm headed to my office, I'm almost finished writing a novel, so hopefully then my publisher will get off my back." He smiled and shook his head. "What about you?" He questioned, mimicking my earlier move and leaning forward. "The same" I answered him. "Except my office is a research lab, I'm a scientist (I want her to be in a science lab, STEM science, robotics, something like that). You mentioned you're an author, what do you write?"

The conversation flowed easily between us for the rest of the ride, my stop came all too soon and I stood to leave. "It was nice meeting you..." "Trevor", he responded with a smile. "And you are..." "Joy". "Well, I'll see you tomorrow Joy?" "Until then." I waved and stepped onto the platform.

The next day, I again sat in front of Trevor and we talked, this time exchanging numbers. We became good friends, and a month later, when he got onto the train, he was holding a bouquet of daisies. A bit of snow was falling, and the white flakes stood out on his dark hair, but among the bouquet it looked picturesque.

"Good morning, Trevor! Those are beautiful!" He took his seat across from me and beamed. "I'm glad you think so Joy, I got them for you." He held the bouquet out for me and I gently took it from his hands. I smiled at him, and before he took his hand back I held it in mine. "Thank you so much! I love them!" I gently squeezed his hand before releasing it. His cheeks were already flushed from the cold, but his blush deepened from my words. "So, Joy." He paused to pull off his gloves and he clenched them in his fist, a habit I noticed he adopted when he got nervous, and I smiled sweetly. "Do you want to get dinner sometime? With me? As a date?" He spoke, starting to fiddle with the gloves in his hand. "I'd love that Trevor." He sighed and leaned back in his seat. "That was so nerve-racking, I was terrified I had gotten friend-zoned." I laughed at his confession. "You know, I had sat across the train and noticed you and your bright pink coat, but was sure you'd never look my way. But then one day you were sitting right here and I saw my chance."

"I was sitting right here because I wanted to say hello to the cute guy I always saw on the train." I confessed to him. He laughed quietly, "I'm glad you made the first move then. It took me a month to ask you out after we met. It probably would have taken me forever to work up the courage to go and talk to you.
