Not So Typical-3?

Quick author's note. This part was never intended to be in the actual "Not So Typical" story line. It started as a prompt in writing club and I decided to use my characters from the story. That being said, it does use information that I always knew about them, but was supposed to be a huge plot twist in the actual book.

----

They arrived at the cabin, just in time to see grey storm clouds choke out the golden sun. Her sunglasses dangled from her hand as she glared at the sky.

"I guess we can't build a campfire tonight, guys." Allison turned to face the rest of her group, who were dragging their bags behind them.

"Gee, what gave it away." Ryan said, dropping his bag on the dirt with a solid thump. She raised an eyebrow at his now dirt covered bag before gently setting hers on the ground. The door creaked open, and Allison saw Kate walk into the cabin. She picked up her bag and followed her in.

"Wow. It's very..." Allison began, but couldn't find any word to describe what she had just walked into.

"It looks fine to me." Mason came in and shrugged.

"Yeah, well you're color blind, baby brother." Kate spoke from the couch.

"I'm with Kate" Allison chimed in, still staring at the cabin walls. "You don't have to face the monstrosity the rest of us do."

"Oh you're being dramatic, Allison. It's not that bad." Ryan announced as he entered the cabin, closing the door behind him. Mason dropped his bag on the floor next to the dining table and took a seat. His hands instinctively went to his jacket pockets.

"Hey." She looked up to see a mischievous smile painted across Mason's face. "Do you want to share a Kit-Kat?" He leaned over the table, a bright red wrapper displayed in his palm.

"Why not?" Allison shrugged. She moved to the table and took the seat across from him. She rested her chin in her hands and watched him make quick work of the wrapper. Then, to her horror, she watched him break it across the line. The storm had picked up, and a bolt of lightning flashed, followed by deafening thunder which seemed to echo in the room, silencing her thoughts.

"Monster." She couldn't tear her eyes away from the chocolate smearing his fingers.

"Are you talking about your cat?" He questioned, a smile on his face but confusion in his voice.

"Nope." She popped the p, and moved her gaze to Mason's eyes. "I'm talking about you." Ryan sighed as he came back into the room.

"Allison, why are you bullying my boyfriend." He smiled then, struck with an idea. "I've always known you were jealous but this crosses a line."

Allison let out a short laugh. "I hope you know that demands retribution."

"I got you Allison" Kate called back from the couch, where she promptly threw a pillow at Ryan's chest. He caught it and tossed it back on the couch smiling.

"I'm bullying your boyfriend because he just did something unforgivable. Look what he just did to that innocent candy bar." Allison's eyes shone with humor, but she pointed accusingly at Mason's hand. Ryan decided to play along with her, he nodded his head, still wearing a smile.

"You're right Allison." He then turned to Mason, trying not to laugh. "I don't know if our relationship can survive this." Kate burst into laughter, which led to Ryan's laughter spilling out.

A lopsided smile painted Mason's face, but he shook his head. "I don't know why I put up with you people. Here's your cursed candy bar."

--------------

So in case anyone's curious, the original prompt was:  'romance in a secluded cabin which morphs into a horror/ elements of horror'. But I don't like to write horror so the lightning flash was the dramatic moment in old horror movies, and he called the candy bar cursed.

This is the last fragment I have from the "Not So Typical" story, if you really count this one. If my memory is right, this is the first story I really dedicated myself to write. I wanted to make it novel length, I even have a pretty general plot outline that I was pretty excited about, but as I've said before, I'm not very good at finishing stories. I couldn't figure out how to build up the plot without having moments seem rushed or out of place.

I'm still very endeared to these characters though. Allison is very quirky, and does a lot of stuff that I always think would be funny to do, like name her cat "Monster" but I'd never actually do in real life. I could never really flesh out Kate, but she's Allison's best friend, and I wanted her to be an actor in their school theatre, going off to Hollywood after she graduated college. Mason is supposed to be kind of quieter, but still social. Ryan is loud though, not volume wise, but he's a talker, and he's also kind of a nerd.
