Betrayed (Alt. Ending)
NOTE: Wattpad, don't flag me for copying Kobaltic 's story. He and I both worked together on it and he even states that in his version. We simply made an alternate ending to it.
Also, spoilers for his version so go read his first. This is also longer. And it's been on Docs for MONTHS, and it wasn't until like a few weeks - a month ago when we finally decided to finish it and add more stuff.
Since Ko renamed "Harm" to "Zane", we had to go back through and replace those. I just now realized that there was a replace thing on docs where we could have done that. But oh well.
So.. yeah. Enjoy.
_______________
The sounds of battle echoed across heaven as angel fought angel. Screams of agony were drowned out by the clashing of steel against steel. The ground upon which all that was holy stood was tainted with the golden blood of the angels. Leading the opposition was an angel in darkened armor, cutting down angels with a twisted greatsword. Opposing him was an archangel in shining armor, holding the line with his own longsword.
Hiding behind a barrel was the only nephilim in Heaven.
Alison, was watching as her older brother, Braden, fight the other angels. She silently cried, knowing that she would never see him again once the Rebellion is over. Her other brother, Zane told her to hide, but she didn’t want to.
As blood was spilled across the land, a rebel sword came flying at her, landing in front of the barrel she watched the battle behind. She silently crept out from her hiding spot to the front of the barrel and picked up the sword. It was at that point another Fallen saw her and headed right for her with the intent of killing her, a wicked smile stretched across his face.
"There you are, you little sh*t." He playfully taunted. "Oh, what's wrong, scared? GOOD." He started to raise his sword to strike her. Alison's eyes widened in fear.
"I'm going to enjoy getting rid of you, like we should have done all those years ago." He swung his sword at her head, without any other thought.
Alison picked up the sword and managed to block it. She caught the Fallen off guard and attacked, the blade slicing through his physical form, killing him. Alison's eyes widened a little bit then immediately ran off and hid somewhere else. Keeping the sword with her. After a while, she heard footsteps coming near her, she grew frightened and stayed absolutely quiet.
“Alison..?”
She heard who it was, she slowly looked out from her hiding spot, ready to attack, but soon felt safe when she realized who it was: Zane. He was injured badly, and his armor was half broken. Alison hugged him tight, dropping the sword in the process. “Where did you get that sword?!” He asked her.
Tears filled her eyes and she began to cry. She replied, “I found it. Someone came at me and tried to kill me-” She was soon cut off when she saw Braden standing right behind Zane.
In his silvery eyes was a glint of sadistic glee. In his hand was a bloodied blade. Zane struggled to his feet, raising his weapon against his brother. He put himself between the rebel and the nephilim, taking a defensive stance to protect his younger sister.
“It’s a shame you two didn’t see things my way,” Braden playfully lamented. “Then again, why would I let you two hold me back from my destiny?” He swung his sword at Zane, who blocked the attack, then the next, and the next after that.
“Braden, please-“
“Wrong,” Braden growled. “Braden was a fool who let his slavemaster dictate what he could be. I am the fatal strike to destroy this empire!” Braden launched a flurry of attacks, each one designed to wear down Zane’s defenses. Zane parried as best as he could, but he had lost his shield earlier and couldn’t block. Zane suffered laceration after laceration, spilling golden blood onto the ground. “Please, Braden. Let's not fight in front of our sister..”
“DON'T BRING HER INTO THIS, ZANE.”
“Both of you! STOP!” Alison cried. Braden looked at his sister with anger in his eyes. Her eyes turned completely white as light blue vines made of pure light came out of the ground and held both brothers in place, the grip was extremely tight, so it was very hard to get out of. “Will you two stop fighting?! Please! I can’t stand any more of this!” She cried out. She could feel a sharp pain in her chest. “I hate this… I hate ALL OF THIS.”
“Alison,” Zane advised while struggling to breathe, “you need to calm down.”
“Oh, save your breath, brother.” Braden’s last word had a venomous emphasis imbued within it. “You can’t help her. You can’t even help yourself.”
“SHUT. UP.” Alison said to Braden as the vines holding them in place grew tighter, making it them for him to breathe. Tears were flowing down her face like a waterfall. “WE SHOULDN'T BE FIGHTING EACH OTHER. WE'RE FAMILY FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. THERE IS NO REASON FOR ANY OF THIS BLOODSHED TO BE HAPPENING!!”
“A-Alison…. Please….” Zane managed to get out. Alison loosened the grip of the vines on Zane. She stayed quiet and started to cry even more.
“Let him go, Alison,” Zane ordered as he coughed up golden blood. “He needs to pay for his crime, and he can’t pay for anything if he’s dead.”
Alison was quiet for a second. Then the vines disappeared. She began to cry even more.
Braden stood to his feet, glaring at his brother. “Naive fool. Do you honestly think you will win?” He picked up his sword and began to walk towards Zane, looking like a man about to kill. Before he could raise his weapon and strike his brother, he felt a hand on his shoulder. Braden turned and saw what was keeping him from his target.
“You.”
He was dressed in golden armor, and his dark hair was trimmed short. In his other hand, he held a longsword. In his eyes was disappointment.
Alison saw who it was and became scared. It was Michael, the archangel. She slowly backed away from them.
“Braden,” the golden-armored angel lamented, “you’ve disappointed me. I thought you would be a great guardian and one day become my equal, but you’ve shown that you’re willing to kill for something that is not your destiny.”
“What would you know of destiny, Michael?” Braden spat. “All your life, you’ve known nothing but power over the rest of us.”
“Do you honestly think my position has any meaning or power? I am nothing more than what any other guardian is.” Michael sighed. “This rebellion is over. Lucifer has surrendered. Every rebel is being gathered in the center of the city. You and I both know where you’re going for this.”
Alison’s eyes grew wide, she knew what was about to happen. “No….” She started to bawl her eyes out. She muttered under her breath, “You can’t do this…. You… CAN’T.” The three of them could see the massive amount of anger in her eyes. Zane started to become frightened.
Both Michael and Braden looked concerned, but Michael didn’t falter. Braden offered no resistance to the two guardians who would bring him to the city’s center as he was led away from Alison and Zane.
Alison fell to her knees and cried. She didn’t want Braden to leave, but she couldn’t stop them. After all, how could she? “This is all YOUR FAULT.” She said under her breath. Suddenly, she felt something enter her mind. Everything for her went pitch black.
Michael and Zane watched as Alison stood on her feet, a wicked smile now stretching across her face. She opened her eyes, revealing dark voids where her silvery eyes once existed. In her hands appeared two swords, darker than the night and made for tearing through opponents. When she spoke, the voice of Lucifer rang out as she announced, “I will not be denied!” With that, she lunged like a feral beast at Michael, who barely managed to parry her attacks.
Her attacks were relentless, pummeling Michael’s defenses over and over and over again. His fight wasn’t a fight to defeat an opponent, but a fight to survive. As Alison continued her rampage against the golden angel, Zane rose to his feet, feeling his wounds healing themselves. He picked up his sword off the ground, holding it as though it was the only thing in the universe that could end the conflict.
Alison was almost about to finish off Michael, who was getting exhausted, and nervous.
Even if Alison is freed from Lucifer’s control, it will leave a permanent scar in her memory of what happened. She tried so hard to fight off his control, but to no avail. It just made his control over her stronger. In the distance, Braden saw and realized what was going on as he was being dragged off to the center of the city.
Braden suddenly forced his way out of the guards’ grasp and flung himself at Alison, clenching his hands into fists and pummeling his sister with all the force of a great typhoon. Again and again, he beat the possessed nephilim. His rage could not be contained as his attacks carved a path through the holy land. As he got further and further from the center of the city, his relentless offense became more ruthless.
As he found the outskirts of the city, he threw the nephilim into the city walls and began to mercilessly beat her. As he attacked, he could hear Lucifer’s screams of agony, and he was happy to know that his theory had been confirmed. As he continued his rampage, Alison's screams of pain became mixed in with Lucifer’s. The left eye was now glowing white, signaling she was barely there, but Braden failed to realize this.
His attacks became slower and softer as his rage waned. After a few minutes, Braden stood over the body of his sister, beaten to death. His rage turned to grief, realizing that he had just murdered his little sister while trying to hurt the rebel that possessed her.
Tears streamed from his face as he just stood there, horrified at his actions. He couldn’t believe it. He fell to his knees and began crying his eyes out. He never wanted this to happen, not to the person he cared for the most.
The expression on his sister's face was of complete shock and horror, her eyes were back to normal and wide opened, and tears were streaming down her face up until the final blow where he killed her.
Moments later, Zane came running over.
Zane didn't know what had happened at first, but then realization slowly crept up to him at what he just witnessed. He put the pieces together as rage and grief soon filled his system.
Braden continued to cry, all he wanted was to reverse time and stop himself from killing his little sister. “I'm sorry..” He muttered, as if speaking to Alison. “I am so, so, so sorry.” He could not contain his emotions, and began bawling. He loved his sister with all his heart.
“WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!” Zane asked him, tears streaming down his face. “WHY WOULD YOU KILL HER, AFTER EVERYTHING YOU'VE DONE FOR HER!! SHE WAS OUR BABY SISTER! SHE LOVED YOU!!”
Braden looked down at his hands, covered in Alison's blood, and began crying even more.
His hands clenched into fists, and his whole body began to shake with rage. He slowly stood, then put his bloodied hand to his face. He wrote something on his forehead, then turned to Zane. He had written REVENGE.
“All injustice will be paid back with blood,” he decreed. “I will destroy everything good and everything evil, and I will raze all of creation, and neither your Creator or Devil will stop me.”
Then he disappeared.
Zane rushed over to the body of his sister and knelt down beside her, blaming Braden and Lucifer for the death of his little sister. He began bawling as Michael approached the site, seeing what was happening. More angels came over to see what was going on.
“Zane..” Michael said, his voice filled with sorrow. “I am so, so sorry…”
“Why did it have to be her?” Zane asked himself quietly. “Why wasn't I there to protect her? Now.. she's gone… I… I failed her….” Zane put a hand on Alison's cheek, feeling her cold skin. He could feel his heart shatter into a thousand pieces as they all watched as her body turned into white dust, the only thing left of Alison was said dust and a near-flawless aquamarine gem. Zane picked up the gemstone and cried even more.
Michael knelt down beside Zane and put a hand on his shoulder, stating, “Alison didn't deserve this.. She didn't deserve any of this… She was like a sister to all of us…”
“How..” Zane softly said, “How can I save people and help them… if I can't even save my own baby sister?”
"Zane.. Everything's going to get better-"
"HOW WILL ANYTHING GET BETTER, MICHAEL?! THIS REBELLION CAUSED THE ONE PERSON I HAD LEFT IN MY LIFE TO DIE. I CAN NEVER MOVE ON FROM THIS!" Zane yelled at Michael, rage filling his system. "You hated Alison, you never wanted anything to do with her when she arrived here and when we took her in. You tried to avoid her in every single way you could possibly think of.. and now all of a sudden, you act as if you cared about her her whole life!"
Michael hung his head. "That's not true, Zane." He stated.
Zane looked at Michael, confused. "What?"
"I do care about Alison.. I just never showed it. She was always like a sister to me, despite not having any siblings."
"So then.. why were you trying to avoid her?"
Michael stayed silent, refusing to answer. He finally responded, "..That doesn't matter anymore. Now.. we have to do something with her remains…"
Zane kept crying. "I never even got to tell her the truth…
•••
Several millennia later…
Lucifer’s screams were mute in the void. Everything he wanted to control was destroyed, the only two entities left across the universe and time itself, were Braden and Lucifer. Braden watched Lucifer suffer, with no expression on his face. He had a sadistic smile stretching across his face, like he was simultaneously the happiest person in the universe and the angriest. “Howl all you want,” Braden taunted. “It won’t stop the pain.”
Lucifer then glared at Braden with pure, raw hatred and anger in his eyes. “YOU! I should’ve killed you when I had the chance!”
“It’s too late,” Braden replied with mad determination in his eye. “There will be no apologizing, no bribery, no mercy. Just you, me, and my vow.” He stepped towards the demon as he screamed and spat, then Braden began to stoke the flames that seared Lucifer’s flesh. The scribe’s eyes leaked blood as he cried out in agony and rage, wanting so desperately to escape and rip Braden to shreds.
“I told you and our people that I would destroy all that is good and all that is evil,” Braden continued. “I didn’t know then that I couldn’t destroy all that is good, but I know you’re the single most concentrated source of evil in the universe and I can most certainly destroy you.”
“Let me guess,” Lucifer taunted through clenched teeth, “all of this is because I made you kill your sister? Oh poor innocent Alison, always so full of light and happiness, until you murdered her. I don't know why you all consider her as an angel, when all she is, is nothing but a mistake. IMPERFECT. SOMETHING THAT SHOULD NEVER HAVE EXISTED IN THE FIRST PLACE. How could anyone love something so imperfect?”
Braden snarled as he summoned a knife. “SHE WAS MORE OF AN ANGEL THEN YOU EVER WERE. ALISON WAS PERFECT IN HER OWN WAY. I remember seeing your expression when you first saw her when she arrived. You saw her as a threat. A mere child was a threat to you? You obviously knew something that we didn't know about her future. Now, why is that?"
"She was a being with no job, someone who can have any job. Even take over a high-ranking one. Even mine. But now that she's gone because of you, none of that will happen. You walked the path I laid out before you. In a way, you are my most loyal servant, and you killed your own sister to prove your blind loyalty!"
Forcing open Lucifer’s mouth, the knife was plunged deep into Lucifer’s head, severing his tongue from the rest of the head. Lucifer screams became louder, and Braden tossed the fallen angel’s greatest weapon away. “It was you that manipulated me to murder her. For that, I have destroyed all you have ever wanted, all you have ever had, and now I’m going to take your power and life. Then, once you’re out of the way, I will be able to reshape the universe in my own image. You won’t be remembered, even as a footnote in history’s chronicle.” With that, Braden summoned a large sword and severed the head of the deceiver.
The body withered into dust and shadow, leaving behind only his severed tongue. Braden looked down at where the body used to be, and he took a deep breath. He had done almost all of what he said he would, and yet he felt as unsatisfied as when he started.
Is this not what you wanted?
Braden slowly turned toward the voice, and he felt satisfied for once. Standing before him was Alison, surrounded by a light blue aura. She looked at him with disappointment and sadness, as a father would look at his prodigal son. Braden recognized this immediately as a projection created by the Creator as a way to communicate with him.
“It is,” Braden answered, “but I’m still not finished, and I am not satisfied with everything I have done.”
Even if you managed to kill me, the Creator reasoned, you will still fail in your task. There are many other universes where you try to take on this task, and you fail.
“Then I’ll-“ He stopped himself. “You’re right,” he admitted.
You can still see her, the Creator offered, but you will be stripped of power and imprisoned for 1000 years. I will create a new heaven and a new earth to replace what you have destroyed. After 1000 years, you will be able to return and see your sister.
Braden thought for a moment. “Yes,” he agreed. “I cannot hope to rival your might, and seeing Alison is all I want now. I will agree to your terms.”
The image reached out, and golden streams of light and ether reached out of Braden’s body. They returned to the Void, reforming day and night and the stars that define them. Braden’s body faded away, leaving behind a small spark of light. The Creator placed the spark in the deepest and darkest prison. In the next seven days, the universe was restored, and a new heaven and Earth were created.
Over the course of 1000 years, everything returned and all was perfect. Well, not to Braden.
Braden knew that his time in the prison was almost over, he was anxious to see his baby sister again after so long. But he had a thought. Would Alison ever forgive him after what he had done? He began questioning this, coming to the conclusion she wouldn't forgive him. Sorrow now filled his mind, thinking to himself that Alison wouldn't want anything to do with him. She does have a reason to not forgive me.. She probably hates me after everything I have ever done. He thought.
When his 1000 years had come to an end, an angel dressed in gold opened the prison. “Come,” the angel commanded, “and see what has been done.”
Braden exited the prison, scared and upset. He regretted everything he did, but those feelings melted away as golden light shone down upon him. He took a physical form, frail and vulnerable, and bathed in the light of the new heaven. Braden took a deep breath, enjoying the first fresh air he had ever truly been able to enjoy. “It is good,” he declared.
“You will find Alison at the gates,” the other angel informed. “Go and see.”
Alison was sitting down underneath a tree, she felt alone and depressed. She remembered everything that had happened. Ever since she was brought back, she never smiled, she barely talked to anyone, and like before, she had no job, which only made her condition worse.
When Braden approached, he saw his sister and his began to tear up. For the first time in millennia, he felt complete and whole.
Alison looked up and saw Braden, her eyes widened as she stood up and felt like crying. She ran over and hugged him tight, almost knocking him over. He hugged back and both of them started crying.
“I am so sorry… I am so, so, so sorry…” Braden whispered to her. Alison was crying into his shoulder. She finally smiled.
“...You're going to stay, right…? Please, tell me they're going to let you stay here..”
“I’ll be with you forever,” Braden replied. Alison tightened her hug and somehow popped his back, which was surprising to both of them. Both of them exchanged a concerned look before chuckling a little bit.
Zane had just returned from his work, he knew Braden was released, he was torn about how he felt about his brother, he was angry for everything that he has done, but also relieved that he surrendered. He also worried about how Alison would feel now that Braden is back.
“So..” Braden asked, “Do you have a job yet..?” Alison hung her head, she feared she would never have a job. “No.. I still don't have one..”
Zane saw the two of them together and in an instant, he was overjoyed. He rushed over to Alison and Braden, hugging them tight. Braden was surprised that this is how his brother greeted him, but eventually hugged back, tears running down his face.
“Zane, I’m so sorry for what I did…”
“You have no idea how happy that makes me,” Zane replied. “We’re family, Braden.”
Alison meanwhile, was being squished in between her brothers. “Uh.. Help.. I'm being squished… badly..” She said to them, slightly muffled. Both of their eyes widened as they backed up a little bit, forgetting how short their sister is.
“Sorry..” Braden apologized. “Sometimes we forget how small and short you are.. And- wait a minute… are those freckles on your cheeks?” He smirked a little bit.
Alison soon looked annoyed. “Don't make fun of my freckles.”
Zane chuckled and gently messed up Alison's short hair. And both Zane and Braden can agree their sister a cinnamon roll.
A messenger came running over, almost tripping on a tree root, he had a letter for Alison.
“I got a letter for ya Alison. I think you'll like what's written.” The messenger informed her while handing Alison the letter. “Well, I gotta go, good luck.” And with that, the messenger ran off.
She opened it up and read what was written. It was basically saying she's getting a job, but they have yet to determine what it is. Her eyes widened with excitement.
“What does it say?” Zane asked her. Alison reread it a second time to make sure she was reading it correctly. “I… I'm getting a job..”
Braden was happy for his sister. “That's amazing! Did they say what you were going to be?”
Alison's smile faded away a little bit. She replied, “No.. They have yet to determine what it is..”
Braden's smile faded away. “At least now you have a job and know what you are supposed to be..”
“I just hope it ain't something crazy. Too much stress is not good for ya.” She teased. They all chuckled and headed back into the sanctuary, finally back together again after so long.
~End of story...for now.
