Held Prisoner

Today was my birthday. Known to be a day of celebration, but no. My dad had the brilliant idea of taking me on a fishing in his crab boat. I ended up sharing a bunk bed with a guy I didn't even know, and the first morning on the boat I was already feeling sick to my stomach. The only good part of that trip was getting to eat sea food everyday and seeing some sea creatures like dolphins and whales. Having to be stuck with my dad anywhere was a nightmare. He's not all that bad. You could say he is a little strange in some ways. He is the only redhead in a long line of blondes and he is addicted to fishing. The worst part is that I have to work on deck with my dad and all the rest of the guys, and i'm not even getting paid! I mean, how sucky is that. I have been thinking of a way off of the boat since the first day.

It was only three days into the trip and I had already begged five times to be let off the boat at the next sight of land. My dad was totally oblivious that I didn't want to be there, and I had to explain to him that I didn't like to go fishing on a small boat in the middle of the ocean all the time like he did and that it was my birthday when I had been put on a boat and sent out here for six months. He understood and promised that we would be back on the mainland for supplies in one month and that he would get me back home. He also said he wouldn't make me work on deck anymore! It wasn't going to be to long and horrible after all. That afternoon I heard some people talking about a storm that was going to hit us in a couple hours and that it wouldn't be safe to go out on deck at all. I didn't worry to much about it until I saw my dad yelling orders at people on deck. I couldn't make out what they were yelling about, because the wind was howling and there was some thunder in the distance. Then my dad came up to me, punched my shoulder playfully.

"It's going to be a rough night, bud"
