Hurry Back
Lindsey picked up his phone and Stevie knew exactly who it was by the tone of his voice. He walked out of the room a moment, knowing the woman in bed wouldn't want to witness the show he was putting on. It turned her stomach the way his voice would get higher, almost sing-song, like he were speaking to a child. A few minutes later, he returned and started pulling on his clothes.
"Another emergency?" she asked, pulling the covers up over her bare chest.
"Of course. It's always dramatic with her. She says Stella is 'really sick' yet only has the sniffles. It's probably allergies" he says, his voice full of irritation.
"You can never tell. Better safe than sorry" Stevie says, giving him a weak smile.
"God, I love you. You're perfect."
"No, that's you."
"I'm sorry to cut this short. I wish I didn't have to go but if I don't, you know what happens"
"I do. It's okay, really."
"No, it isn't."
"Obviously, I don't want to give you back but that's the way it goes."
"I will come back as soon as I can. She was going to take the girls out to some sort of horse thing tomorrow. I'm sure she assumes I will be in the studio again."
"Even with Stella sick?"
"Always"
"Hm" Stevie says.
"You know how she is"
"Yeah"
"Anyway, maybe I can be back here around noon. I will come up with something"
"Alright, baby"
"Maybe I can pack us a little picnic and we can sit outside. I hate not being able to take you out."
"It doesn't bother me. As long as I'm with you, I'm alright"
"I love you. Get some sleep."
"I love you too. I will try" He kisses her lips ever so softly and puts his shoes back on. "Hurry back"
"You bet" She hears his boots on the stairs then the door shutting behind him and she sighs. She turns the tv on, laying back against the pillows. She hated being alone so soon. It felt like he just got there. She sunk down under the covers and turned to face the pillow Lindsey was laying on. It smelled of him, sweat and cologne. It drove her wild as she clutched it to her chest. Her breathing slowed and she was able to drift to sleep, imagining herself laying in his arms as she had so many nights before.
-----
A knock on the door, woke Stevie from a dead sleep. She looked at the clock. It was barely 9 in the morning. She groaned as the knocking persisted. "I'm coming" she says to herself, knowing her uninvited guest cannot hear her. She pulls on a pair of leggings and a top, clipping her messy hair up out of her face. She races down the stairs, checking her appearance in the mirror briefly before opening the door.
"Jenna" she says. "What brings you here?"
"I, uh, I thought you said to come by Sunday so you could give me a run down of the house and stuff"
"Honey, no. Next Sunday"
The young girl blushed "Oh my gosh, how embarrassing! I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to disturb you."
"No, you're fine. Come on in" She walked the petite blonde with big blue eyes into the kitchen. "Let me start a pot of coffee, I will get ready really fast then we can chat"
"Thank you. And once again, I'm so sorry. I must have misunderstood."
"It's easy to do with how much information Karen and I threw at you."
"You're so sweet"
"So are you, my girl." Stevie carried on starting a pot of coffee, told her where the cups were and to make herself at home before she went upstairs to shower.
"I can't believe I'm actually in Stevie's house!" Jenna said to herself. The girl wore grey moto style skinny jeans and a black top with bell sleeves. Her boots were high, much like something her new boss would wear and she was dripping in silver jewelry. She played with her moonstone ring, looking around the kitchen from where she sat, not daring to get up. Before she knew it, Stevie came back down the stairs made up and dressed to the nines. "Wow! You look great!"
"Thank you. I love what you're wearing! We kind of match, don't we?" She noted all the jewelry, their love of a moody color palette and strikingly similar features. "You're such a pretty girl, Jenna"
"Oh, well thank you!" the girl says, taken aback by her compliments. She was a lot nicer than she had been told.
"So where to start? I guess I can show you around down here then we can go upstairs. I can show you my closet room and all that kind of girly stuff. That's my favorite part."
"Mine too!"
"I knew you'd be perfect! If I had more things for you to do, I would keep you and Karen"
"That would be a dream!" Jenna said, her eyes sparkling. Stevie led her around, Jenna asking questions and staring at everything in complete wonderment.
"Alright, so up we go" Stevie tells her, taking the other little blonde by the hand. Once again, Jenna was in awe. She had never seen such beautiful things in her life. "Oh, and your room is on the left if you choose to stay here. I'm sure you have your own place and enjoy your alone time but you're welcome to come and hang out."
"You're so gracious!"
"I like to take care of the people on my team."
"I don't want to be an inconvenience. I'm here to help you, not the other way around."
"Nonsense" she says, waving off her comment. Another knock on the door catches Stevie's attention. Then the bell rings. "Must be urgent"
"Let me get it. I will be right back" Jenna says.
"Thank you sweetheart" Stevie pats her shoulder and the girl goes down to answer the door. The older blonde looks through all of her beautiful shawls, she was just about to get to it when she was interrupted. Jenna was sure to love these!
"Hey" Jenna said, speaking to the man in front of her. She smiles at him. "Welcome, I'm Jenna, Stevie's new assistant. Can I help you?"
"Yeah, I came to see Stevie."
"Right"
"So..."
"She's upstairs. Lindsey, right?"
"Yeah" he said, running his hand through his hair.
"Awesome. Come on in, I'm sure she's been waiting for you."
"Okay..." Lindsey has a strange feeling about this girl. She was young and pretty but something was just- off. Her golden hair, her big blue eyes. She looked strangely familiar. The girl went upstairs when came back down with Stevie following close behind. "You look gorgeous" he said, kissing her cheek. He wanted her lips but with Jenna staring at them, it made him uncomfortable. "I didn't know you had company"
"It was an unexpected surprise but it was a happy one, nonetheless. Oh, she's just fabulous, Linds. You really ought to talk to her."
"Oh yeah?"
"Totally. I mean, if this girl could sing or like, play guitar....she has enough personality and sass to be in Fleetwood Mac!"
"Does she?"
"Definitely!"
"And take your spot? Oh I could never..." he teased, earning him a playful swat. "Watch it, Buck"
"I will" he says, smirking mischievously. "Do I...know you?" He turns his attention to Jenna again.
"No, I don't think so."
"Hmm...you just look..."
"Familiar? I get that all the time! I must have a common face. Run of the mill, boring...y'know?"
"I don't think it's that. You're anything but average" he says and Stevie elbows him. He looks down at her and gives her a sheepish smile. She gives him a crooked smirk in response, putting her hands on her hips. What am I going to do with him? she thinks to herself.
