Hels landed with a thud.

The knight pulled himself up, his head swimming. The last thing he remembered was Xisuma using his powers... Hels glanced around.

Oh.

OH.

He was in... The End? He had read about this dimension, and he knew some branches resided in it.

I can try and look for a branch- maybe they can get me back to Hermitcraft.

"Who are you?!" Hels whipped around at the voice. A figure, wearing a purple cloak pinned with a clasp. He had fluffy white hair and lilac wings, and his red eyes were narrowed at Hels.

Hels would know that face anywhere.

"Xay?!" Hels breathed. "How- you- wh- you have wings?"

Wonderful question.

"How do you know my name?" Xay hissed, snapping his fingers.

There was no fire.

Instead, there was a purple-ly magenta Void magic.

"I... didn't Xisuma teleport you here too?" Hels whispered, suddenly fearful.

"YOU KNOW XISUMA?!" the unfamiliar Xay yelled. "Listen here, stranger, I want you to tell me who the hell you are right now."

"My name is Hels," he murmured. "You know me... at least... I thought you did..."

"I don't know any knights, other than Welsknight," Xay's eyes narrowed. "Wels... Hels..."

"You know Wels?" Hels's eyes widened. "He's my brother! Ask him, he'll know me."

"Why should I?"

"Because I'm just as confused as you are."

Xay sighed, before tilting his head back slightly and squeezing his eyes shut. Hels stared at him in confusion, but didn't say anything.

A cloaked figure dressed the same way as Xay appeared out of nowhere.

Hels stepped back out of instinct, then eyed the second person warily.

She had cropped black hair and her eyes were a dark purple. She seemed to be biting back a smile, but she bowed when Xay turned towards her.

"̇/ᒷ ̇/⨅╎," Xay greeted her. Hels blinked at the foreign language, then reminded himself that this wasn't his Xay, and therefore could be capable of anything.

"Xexzi, please ℸ ̣ ᔑꖌᒷ ℸ ̣ ⍑╎ᓭ 𝙹リᒷ ℸ ̣ 𝙹 ↸⚍リ⊣ᒷ𝙹リᓭ," Xay switched halfway through speaking, clearly having figured out that Hels didn't understand what he was saying.

"||ᒷᓭ, ᓭ╎∷," Xexzi locked eye contact with Hels, and her expression softened just slightly.

"I'm going to get Xisuma," Xay told her, now speaking in English. "Make sure that nothing happens."

Xexzi nodded, and Xay opened his wings and flew off into the End City.

"⍑╎! ╎'ᒲ ̇/ᒷ ̇/⨅╎, ʖ⚍ℸ ̣ ||𝙹⚍ ᔑꖎ∷ᒷᔑ↸|| ꖌリ𝙹∴ ℸ ̣ ⍑ᔑℸ ̣ ," the girl chirped at Hels.

"Uh... what?" he mumbled. Xexzi hesitated, then opened her mouth to speak again.

"Hi," her voice held a slight accent, breathy and different. It was slower now too, not as fast and hyper as before. Her accent kind of sounded like Xay and Xisuma- at least the Xay and Xisuma Hels knew. "I'm... Xexzi, but you already know that."

"Do you understand English?" Hels pressed.

"Yes," she replied. "Just don't speak well... Xanthus is teaching. Anyways, you come with me."

"Okay," Hels agreed.

"I should probably tie your hands," Xexzi mumbled. "Eh, whatever."

"Your name is?" Xexzi prompted as the two made their way to... wherever Xexzi was taking him.

"Hels," he replied. She nodded, then took a sharp left with Hels following closely behind.

"We're dumping you in dungeons," Xexzi chuckled. "But you will be fine. No harm this time!"

"Th- this time?!" Hels sputtered.

"We used to bind and tie prisoners," Xexzi said cheerfully. "You are just there for convenience, don't worry!"

"Right," Hels muttered.

The pair arrived at the prisons.

Empty cells lined the walls, the bars made of endstone bricks. It was themed around purple and yellow just like the rest of the End, but it seemed to have a darker atmosphere than normal- even though that wasn't possible in a place with no real light.

"Just going to leave you here," Xexzi explained, unlocking a cell. "No need to overreact, you're not a threat. Armor off, though. And sword." Hels sighed and handed over his armor and sword. He can't remember the last time someone else held that sword- probably the last time being when Badtimes gave it to him, years ago.

"Stay," Xexzi commanded, leading Hels into the cell. "And don't cause too much trouble, please. I will stand guard, though."

Hels stepped into the cell, hearing the door close behind him. A twisting, sick feeling stirred in his stomach, complimented with a thought.

How will I get back to the world I know?

Hels blinked his eyes open wearily. The last thing he remembered was pacing in that cell, then everything going dark.

Opening his eyes further, he registered that he was... tied to a chair. And his hands were bound behind his back.

"He's awake,"

Hels's head whipped towards the voice.

"Xisuma," he breathed upon seeing who had spoken. Xisuma's eyes widened, and he took a cautious step back.

"How does he know your name?" Xay's voice hissed, then the winged figure came into view.

"I don't know," Xisuma mumbled. "I've never seen him before."

"Get Wels," Hels pleaded. "He'll recognize me... probably."

Xisuma sighed, then left the room.

"Can I be unbound from this chair?" Hels requested.

"No," Xay snapped.

"Do it or I do it myself," Hels replied, his patience starting to wear thin.

"And how would you do that?" Xay challenged.

Hels concentrated for a second, then the chair went up in flames, taking the rope with it.

Xay scrambled backwards, his eyes wide with fear.

"What are you?" he hissed. Hels simply snickered at the comment.

"That's funny," he chuckled. "My Xay said the exact same thing when he discovered I could control fire."

"You what-" Xay's words were cut off by the sound of footsteps. Xisuma had returned with some of the other Hermits.

"I figured it'd be best to see how many people he can identify," Xisuma explained. "And if anyone can identify him."

"Wels," Hels tried, locating his brother in the small crowd. "We're brothers."

"I don't have a brother," Wels said slowly. "But I will admit- I feel like I know you from somewhere. I can't place it, though."

"Same here," Beef stepped out from the group. "It's like I've seen him before, but I have no clue when or where."

"Well, that's weird," Hels admitted. "I don't have much of a connection to you, Beef."

"Okay, that's creepy," Beef mumbled after a second. "That you just know my name."

"Sorry," Hels muttered. "But everyone I'm seeing here has a counterpart in my world."

"What's my counterpart like?" Iskall asked with a snort.

"Probably like you," Hels grumbled. "Except my Iskall is probably a lot more traumatized."

"Wh-" Mumbo sputtered.

"I knew Xay, Iskall, Impulse, and Grian the best," Hels told them.

The last name caused everyone to flinch.

Hels tilted his head, noticing the harsh reaction.

"What?" he asked.

"Grian... he died," Xisuma mumbled.

Oh.

Oh my god.

"I- I'm sorry," Hels murmured.

"Still sure your Iskall is more traumatized?" Iskall muttered sarcastically.

"Depends," Hels sighed. "Were you stolen at birth because ice was shooting out of your fingers?"

"WHAT-"

"Wait," Xay interrupted. "You- do the thing with the fire."

Hels snapped his fingers, biting back a smile at the shocked reactions.

"And you said your Iskall has... ice powers?" Xay pressed.

"Yep," Hels replied. "You have fire powers, like me. Although I'm starting to think you actually control heat, but that's a different story."

"Xisuma has Void powers- arguably the rarest power out there," Hels continued. "Too bad he's too sweet to use them- the poor thing is too empathetic to ever use his powers. Except for recently- it's his fault that I'm here, actually."

"I don't think the personalities change at all between worlds," Xay snorted, giving Xisuma an affectionate glance.

"Impulse has electric powers, and they're practically impossible to control," Hels sighed. "Tango is part blaze, Zedaph has a thing we call 'mindstrength', Etho has enhanced speed, Ren is part dog, Bdubs has the rather unfortunate ability to transfer negative emotions from himself to others, Doc is part creeper, Wels controls water, and so on."

"That's... a lot," Xay admitted. "Does everyone have powers where you're from?"

"Not everyone," Hels replied. "Blazes- I wish I could just hand you that book Xay's writing. We come from a... complex world."

"Evidently," Xisuma snorted.

"Why don't you tell me what's going on here?" Hels offered.

"Oh boy," Xay grumbled. "Basically, The End is complete chaos and after nearly getting ourselves killed multiple times, we finally ended a years long war after getting rid of a tyrant that may or may not have completely disappeared."

"That's... a lot," Hels echoed Xay's previous words.

"And then there's the whole deal with the Hermits and the Watchers," Xisuma added. "Plus Grian's whole dilemma."

"Okay, as much as I'd love to hear what insane chaos and drama has been going on here," Hels interjected. "I really need to get back to my own world."

"Xisuma?" Xay tried. "You're the Admin, so you might know how to do that?"

"Xisuma's the Admin?" Hels cried. "Wh- Doc's the Admin!"

"DOC?!" Xisuma shrieked.

"I would not trust Doc to be the Admin," Etho huffed. Nods of agreement.

"Well this is unfair," Doc grumbled. Bdubs pat him on the shoulder with a snicker.

"If Xisuma was the Admin," Hels snorted. "And the server was ever, hypothetically, attacked, he'd just politely ask the attackers to leave."

"Forget what I said earlier," Xay muttered. "The personalities definitely change between worlds."

"X's a tough Admin but a sweet Hermit," Cleo offered.

"My Xisuma is just sweet all the way through," Hels grumbled. "However, I think I'll still happily go back to my world, considering he's probably having a panic attack right now."

"Great," Xisuma mumbled, pulling up his communicator. "Now the fate of some other Xisuma out there is in my hands."

"He'll be fiiine," Hels hummed. "Xay's probably helping him. Or yelling at him. Could honestly be either."

"The rest of you can go," Xisuma said. "I'm staying here until we figure this out." The other Hermits nodded, then filed out.

"Great," Hels sighed sarcastically. "Do you have any idea what you're doing?"

"Nope," Xisuma replied. "Hopefully this won't go south too quickly."

"So," Xay spoke to Hels, clearly trying to make some sort of small talk while Xisuma figured out the... stuff. "We're friends in your world?"

"Not exactly," Hels replied immediately, then clamped his mouth shut.

"Oh, enemies then?" Xay laughed.

"Erm... no," Hels chuckled nervously. "Actually, we're uh- well, if you're close to someone but you're not... just friends, then what are you?"

There was a beat of silence.

"Oh," Xay mumbled as Xisuma started snickering at the interaction.

There was another silence after that.

Hels idly snapped his fingers and watched the fire dance around the back of his hand.

"You might as well tell us your whole story-thing," Hels offered. "While we wait."

"Sure," Xay agreed. "So, basically, there are two kinds of people in The End- the Watchers and the Voidwalkers.

"Watchers are generally considered 'bad'," Xay continued. "Although the Watchers themselves used to consider themselves the only good people or whatever. Xisuma and I are Watchers, but we escaped rather early on in our lives.

"Skipping over our story, basically, Xisuma ended up as the Admin of Hermitcraft, and I stayed in the End, living alone." Xisuma ducked his head at this, mumbling something under his breath. Xay glanced at Xisuma then sighed, before turning his attention back to Hels.

"So, taking place sometime after our whole...thing," Xay began. "Was Grian's whole- situation. He also escaped the Watchers, but only for a couple of months. EVO- the server he escaped to- was short lived and died in a fiery purple heap."

"That took a turn," Hels snorted.

"Any-"

Xay's words were cut off by Xisuma suddenly sitting upright.

"Impulse just sent me a message," Xisuma mumbled. "Look."

<ImpulseSV> come back to the overworld. bring the new guy. ren and I have an idea to get him back.

"Hey!" Impulse called as Xisuma and Hels landed. Impulse had asked to meet in the Shopping District, on the island of the Resistance's abandoned base.

"We have an idea, but it's risky," Impulse continued. "Like- could-get-you-killed-or-trapped-in-another-dimension risky."

"Sounds like half the plans that I've ever followed through," Hels grumbled. "So go ahead." Ren and Impulse shared a glance, then,

"We're going to use a time machine."

Hels stared at them in shock. Xisuma, however, sucked in a sharp breath.

"Time travel doesn't exist," Hels said carefully, simple scientific debunkion being the only thing he could think to say.

"Are you using... his design?" Xisuma asked Ren and Impulse, ignoring Hels.

"...Yes," Impulse admitted. "I still remember it."

"Hopefully we don't send you to alpha, my dude," Ren chuckled.

"Wh- what does that even mean," Hels huffed.

"Grian made a time machine last season," Impulse explained. "At first, he just used it to retrieve some lost diamonds, but later we accidentally sent ourselves way back in time- too far back. It was not a pretty time."

"The original time machine was destroyed," Ren piped up. "But Impulse and I still remember how to make it... although it'll probably hurt to see it again."

"Not sure I want to go back in time," Hels mumbled. "But okay."

"Oh, that's where the risky bit comes in," Impulse snorted. "This is the easy, not-risky bit. The hard bit is that we're changing the design."

"When Grian forgot the compass, we went really back in time," Ren said. "Because the compass wasn't there to control the clock and how far back it goes."

"So maybe if we forget the clock," Impulse added. "Then it won't take you back, it'll just take you somewhere else."

"And hopefully, that somewhere else is your world," Ren finished.

"I- wow," Hels chuckled. "That's not nearly as risky as I expected."

"Wh- but it could take you to a whole new dimension!" Impulse cried. "That could be very deadly! Or you could just die."

"Eh, still," Hels shrugged. "Let's just try this."

"Alright," Impulse said hesitantly, before gesturing for Hels to follow him. The four of them made their way into the Resistance headquarters, and Impulse dug into the ground, revealing a small room that had been carved out of the ocean under the island. Inside was the time machine, an iron box with an iron door.

"Head on inside," Impulse instructed. Hels pulled a lever, opening the door, then stepped inside. It was cramped, and there was a beacon in the center, along with some various buttons and levers.

"Press the buttons," Impulse called from outside. Hels did as he was told.

"Flick the levers," Ren added. Hels did it, feeling a sudden twist in his gut.

"And turn the compass three times," Xisuma finished.

One.

Two.

Three!

There was a flash of white, an ear-piercing screech, and then everything went dark.

"HELS!!"

For the third time that day, Hels blinked his eyes open from unconsciousness. He had a headache, but it was all shoved aside when he saw Xay and Xisuma's concerned faces leaning over him.

Xay didn't have wings.

"Oh thank god," Hels breathed. "It's actually you."

"Wh- what is that supposed to mean?" Xay asked. "'Actually' me?"

"Long story," Hels mumbled. "What happened over here?"

"Xisuma was using his powers," Xay started.

"Which honestly is just a bad idea," Xisuma muttered.

"And he accidentally sent you to the Void," Xay continued. "We were panicking and freaking out and trying to get Doc to bring you back, but before we could figure out how, there was a bang and you arrived in an iron box."

"Wonderful," Hels grumbled. "That was a time machine, by the way."

"A wHAT-" Xisuma shrieked. "Time- that's impossible! There is absolutely no way to go back in time!!"

"Yeah- well apparently it is possible," Hels snorted. "I don't know."

"Where were you?" Xay poked Hels's chest as he spoke. "Time travel is unimportant when my boyfriend disappears for around an hour and manages to get the entire server to panic uncontrollably."

"It was only around forty-five minutes," Xisuma huffed.

"Felt like half an hour," Hels offered.

"Wow, miss me much?" Xay grumbled playfully.

"Hard to when there was another one of you."

Xisuma and Xay stared at him, shock on their faces.

"Ugh, parallel universe of some sort," Hels sighed. "I have no blazing clue."

"Tell," Xay demanded, sitting on a nearby chair. "Details. Now." Hels laughed as Xisuma also got a chair, giving Hels an expectant expression.

"Oh ghasts, y'all are in for a ride-"

Oh my stars I actually love that one so much-
