Chapter Thirty-Three: It Will Rain
Evelyn could not stop smiling. Her cheeks were burning like hell but she refused to drop her smile. As she bounded from left to right, her boisterous laughter filled the air. To claim that she was overjoyed would be an understatement. Evelyn is on cloud twenty. Nothing can steal her smile and especially not her happiness.
Not even an equally happy George threatening her with his bumper cart. She was in the lead and she told him countless times to kiss her ass and accept that he would lose this round. Evelyn is the best at Go-Kart racing and she was bound to let George know.
"Ev, slow the fuck down! I just want to talk!" George yelled over their motors.
The girl was speedy Gonzalez at the mouth and on the track. George thought he was the professional at games like this, but he was certainly proved wrong today. He didn't mind, though because he served Evelyn's ass in Mini Golf not even an hour ago. He will let her enjoy this small victory, for now.
Evelyn let out an evil cackle at the boy with the amazing green eyes as she whipped past him. She is thoroughly enjoying silencing the head trash talker himself. She does not plan on stopping anytime soon.
"Stop being a cry baby and just accept it!" She teased.
George rolls his eyes before offering Evelyn his middle finger as he finally crossed the finish line. He was overly relieved that his laps were finished and he could finally be put out of his misery.
"How the hell did you let her beat you like that?" A certain blue-eyed best friend asks.
George glances around for Evelyn, spotting her still cheering as she gathered her purse and cellphone. With another eye roll, he turns to his best friend.
"She's a fucking cheat. She told me she didn't know how to work those damn things." He scoffs.
The blond chuckles and pats George's back.
"You should've known better my friend. Everyone knows how to ride a go-cart dumbass."
George shrugs the boy's hand away.
"Man fuck you, Justin."
Justin laughs as he holds his hands up in surrender. His best friend is definitely a sore loser.
"So what's next? Are we gonna eat now? I'm hungry." The source of George's sour mood reveals herself.
"We can!" Justin smiles before nudging George. "I mean... Are you hungry, George?"
George rolls his eyes again for the millionth time and opens his mouth to answer, but Justin wasn't finished.
"You did have a full plate of ass kicking go-cart goodness today. I'm talking about a hefty filling of fried loser beans!" The boy continued, earning a high five from Evelyn.
"A little lame but that was funny!" Evelyn chuckled.
"You'll get a mouth full of my dick if you don't shut the hell up, Justin." George warned turning away to head inside.
Justin and Evelyn exchanged another glance before bursting into even worse laughter. They love teasing and riling up George.
"I'll do it after I get your sister's pussy out of my mouth!" Justin called after his best friend.
Evelyn could only shake her head at the vulgar joke. She forgets every time that the two best friends had quite a dirty sense of humor.
Eventually, the duo caught up with George and Justin's other half inside the House O' Fun. The group had run out of tickets and tokens and the only thing left to do was eat and depart.
It is the last week of their summer break and soon, they would all have to resume their stressful college careers. George would be a partial senior as would Justin and his other half.
It will be a huge year for the trio and all Evelyn had to worry about was how much longer she had until she graduated as well.
She honestly didn't like to think about it, but once George graduates, she doesn't know what she will do. Of course, he will have to move on and be who ever he wants, and so does she.
The couple has yet to talk about it and it bothers Evelyn from time to time, especially at a time like this.
"Earth to Evelyn..."
Evelyn blinked a few times before she did in fact, return to earth. She has to keep reminding herself to stop dozing off. She has to focus on the now.
"Sorry... Thinking about food." She tried to recover.
"That's what I'm talking about!" Justin praises. "What's good to eat here? What do you want Jess?"
As the two newly engaged couple talked amongst themselves, George took the opportunity to lean into Evelyn and try to figure out what's bothering her.
He noticed she had her little moment and saw right through her little white lie. She missed a five minute conversation about food. Something wasn't adding up.
"Don't lie, what's wrong?" He whispered.
Evelyn inhales and smiled in time to catch Jess making a face at her.
"Nothing. I'm just thinking about stuff." She exhales.
George frowns. He does not like the sound of that.
"What kind of stuff, Ev?"
Evelyn shrugs and plays with the handle of her purse.
"You graduating, and going your own way." She admits.
Evelyn felt no need to beat around the bush. Although, she hates bringing up negativity in such a positive environment. It has become a terrible habit of hers lately.
Meanwhile, George was relieved that he didn't have to pry the answer out of her. He didn't like what she said, but he was happy that she told him.
Now, he just had to find a solution.
"Ev, you won't have to worry about that. I'll always be here. Okay?" He leans in and pecks her forehead. "Okay?"
Evelyn offers a small smile and nods.
"If you two are done with that sappy shit, the Justin's would like to order some food." Justin interjects.
George rolls his eyes and nudges Evelyn to smile wider. When she obliges he nods his okay to Justin and the group scans the menu for the greasiest thing they could find.
Evelyn had felt the high of the past two days and for some reason, today she is experiencing a low. In this low, she does not feel like herself and for another reason, she has an awful idea of why.
"That's your fourth time running to the bathroom to pee, Ev. We haven't even been up for an hour yet." He strained from the other side of the door.
"Yeah, well... Excuse me for having a weak uterus!" Evelyn spat.
The boy was right, though. Evelyn had been running to the bathroom since she woke up. She didn't drink much before bed last night so her finding herself on the toilet for the fourth time this morning is a surprise, but it's not the only one.
Evelyn also woke up to reddish-pink spotting in her panties. Her period is around the corner, so that didn't worry her much. She figured that it happens sometimes.
What worried her was the fact that her breasts felt like someone was pounding into them with a mallet.
To say that Evelyn is going through something would be an understatement. She didn't know what was going on and the unsupportive asshole on the other side of the door was not helping.
"You don't have to be so damn mean about it." He grumbled as if Evelyn couldn't hear him.
"I heard that you asshole." She gritted.
Not another word came from the other side of the door and Evelyn was relieved. She had to focus.
She didn't know why her damn chest was hurting neither did she know why she there was pinkish spotting in her panties. Red is common, but pink is new to her.
Snagging her cellphone from the counter, she did want all the millennials do to answer their medical questions; Google them.
WebMd was the first to pop up with random and even terrifying diseases. Evelyn knew to scroll right past that nonsense.
She continued scrolling until finally something popped up that made her heart stop for a minute. She scrolled past that heart stopper only to find the same results. Something wasn't adding up or maybe it was, and either way Evelyn was terrified.
"Ev? Ev are you okay in there?" The asshole returned, knocking on the door.
Evelyn couldn't answer, her eyes were glued to her screen. She was hoping that maybe Google would lie to her and that these guests are probably misleading just like WebMd.
Unfortunately, the results were making sense. Evelyn would have to pray extra hard for these results to be proven false, but it seems like they have hit the nail right on the head.
"Ev, I'm coming in." He finally sighs, pushing the door through.
Evelyn hadn't realized she was crying, before the door opened. She didn't realize it until her screen began to seen blurry and the boy's questions ranged in her head.
No, she wasn't okay.
"I think I'm pregnant." She eventually blurted.
Time seemed to stop at the magnitude of her words. Everything around her seemed to move in slow motion. The silence of the room was the only active thing Evelyn could understand.
Pregnant.
Evelyn cannot be pregnant. She is only nineteen. She is only barely a sophomore in college. She hasn't even started her second year. Evelyn cannot be pregnant.
She is on a scholarship. She has three or so years left before she graduates. She wants to be lawyer. She cannot be pregnant. That's not how it works, that's not how any of this works.
Evelyn has never understood someone claiming that their world could fall apart, but in this moment she finally understood. She felt it. She felt her dreams sliding down a drain. She saw her parents disappointment.
She saw everything simply falling down. Her college career, her friends, her degree, her scholarship, especially her George.
"Evelyn? Evelyn? Come back. Come back to earth, love." George snaps his fingers in front of her.
Evelyn blinks a few times, silent tears escaping as she does so. George had to admit that it is breaking his heart to see her cry, but he needs her to be coherent in order to answer him and fully explain everything.
"Ev, I need you to listen to me." He speaks slowly. "Are you listening?"
Evelyn looks up and her lip trembles.
"I'm pregnant." She repeats.
George sighs heavily and glances at the cellphone in her hand. He has seen enough YouTube videos to know if he is being messed with. Inwardly, he is praying that it is all just a joke.
He isn't ready to be a father. He cannot be a father. He just mended things with his own father. He also hasn't even finished college. He has one year left and bringing a baby into the world is not in the itinerary.
He hates to be selfish, but he cannot raise a child. Not right now, not even in a few years. He just can't do it.
"Is this true? H-How do you know?" He asks scrolling through the search results. "How do they know?"
"I'm pregnant." Was all Evelyn could give away.
"Stop saying that. Ev, please." George sighs still scrolling.
He does not want to hear that. Evelyn is not pregnant, she can't be. She used plan B and the last time they did anything he used a condom. Evelyn cannot be pregnant.
"What the fuck does any of this mean?" George is growing frustrated.
Evelyn snatches the cellphone from him and throws it toward the door. Luckily it has a protective case on is so when it missed the door and hit the wall instead, nothing truly happened. At least from what George could see.
"What the fu--"
"I'm pregnant George! I'm fucking pregnant!" She shouts, shoving him away. " I'm fucking pregnant!"
George shakes his head and paces the floor.
"No you're not. You don't even know!" He fumes. "You need a doctor." George tried to reason.
Evelyn rolls her eyes and pulls up her panties and shorts. She knows her body. The answers were right in his face. She knew George would not be excited, but she was hoping he'd be supportive.
"Fucking asshole." She grits as she shoves past him.
George stops his pacing and follows her into the bedroom. He does not understand her anger, he is trying to figure things out and he can't if she's lashing or on him.
"How am I an asshole for trying to figure shit out? Huh?" He confronted her. "I can't believe what Google claims all the time!"
Evelyn had enough. She's already frustrated, confused, and scared and all George is doing is making it worst. He refuses to accept the reality check they have been given.
"I haven't had a period, my fucking titties hurt and I have pink blood in my drawers, George. If I'm not pregnant, I'm close to it you fucking asshole!" She snaps charging toward him. "So either help me or shut the fuck up!" She shoves him again.
"Stop fucking pushing me!" George fires back.
It was a childish retort he had to admit, but Evelyn's violence is not helping their situation. He is trying to wrap his head around this, just like she is.
"Don't ask dumb questions!" She huffs, plopping onto the bed. "I can't believe this."
"And I won't believe it until you take a test." George scoffs.
Evelyn cuts her eyes at him and opened to say something. She thought against it when she caught his frowned afterward. He wasn't trying to sound like a dickhead, he's just frustrated. They both are.
"Just two days ago we were talking about me graduating and now... This? I don't know what to do..." He sighs leaning against his dresser.
Evelyn closed her eyes and invited her tears this time. She pictured this differently. She wanted to be married and for her spouse to be happy about her being pregnant.
Instead, she has a scared George that won't even offer her a hug. She's scared and certainly feels alone and it is not a good feeling.
"I know we gotta get you some tests. And then a doctors appointment. I don't know about the parents part yet. I--"
"Would you want to keep it?" She dared to asks, eyes still closed. "The baby."
George swallowed harshly. He didn't have an answer for that. He is incapable of being a father right now. He cannot care for a child on a college student budget. He also cannot focus on his academics and a baby.
Neither would he be able to live with giving his child away. He would never do such a thing. He knew friends who were adopted and although some of them grew up happily, most of them grew up feeling void, warranted by the fear and pain of abandonment. George doesn't want that for his child.
"We should probably get going." George eventually sighed.
Evelyn fought back the next round of tears as she stood to her feet and nodded. Of course he couldn't answer that. She was hoping that he would have an answer, but he didn't.
That alone is far scarier than finding out she's pregnant. What she does next will determine everything, and Evelyn didn't want to think about those chances.
S/N: Next chapter will be the closing chapter :)
