Chapter Nine: Narcissistic Asshole

Evelyn was in the Student Union sipping at her water. She has been experiencing a bit of acne malfunction and it was all thanks to her thinking that she could be like everyone else and drink sodas over the holiday. Payback was a bitch. Mother Nature and the Ebony goddesses must have had a good laugh with this one. Now Evelyn had a vendetta against the inhumane mystical figures.

On the other hand, her real concern was seeing George today and actually talk to him face to face. It was different and Evelyn didn't know how she felt about it.

At the party, she was uneasy with him until she let go of whatever mental restraint she had of herself. Over the phone, she felt easy with him, and in person, it was just weird. Yet, they played tick for tack as if they truly knew each other.

It was refreshing and George was even better in person. Evelyn had to stop herself from lingering at the party in his sweats as she spat her fire at him. She enjoyed that he could take the burn. She really liked that. She even liked it better than his impressionable print.

Then he asked her to tutor him, no-told her to tutor him and everything went left. Evelyn does not like being told what to do. Even though he was mainly begging, she didn't like his demanding tone. Then again, she was just really still very heated over his blunt lustful comment about her body. She will have to put him in his place about that if they continued this, whatever it is called.

Even though she clearly dismissed the poor kid earlier this morning, she felt remorseful. This boy, this, George asked her in front of her class, no-begged her basically in front of her class to tutor him. That is uncommon for a young man in college. That says a lot about George's character. Evelyn had to respect that.

Therefore, Evelyn texted him. She texted George to meet her in the Student Union after his class so they can discuss this tutoring venture. Evelyn didn't know why George needed help in the class, he seemed much too old to be taking such a class, but that was all trivial to Evelyn now. She was just doing a good deed for the world.

Three textbooks tumble onto Evelyn's table. She didn't fidget one bit as she already knew who it was. She saw him before he saw her. He nearly ran into some blonde girl as he tried to rush toward the table. Evelyn thought to laugh, but quickly squared her shoulders back and looked at George with her best poker face.

"You're late." She says dryly.

George rolls his eyes and slumps into the chair across from Evelyn. He ran all the way across campus - straight after class - to meet Evelyn in the Student Union. He ran late because he may or may not have stopped to catch up with an old friend and then give attention to some girl who was not shy with ogling him. George made sure to keep track of the time, though. He was only fifteen minutes late. He had a long run. Evelyn should understand, right?

"Come, on. You know how big the campus fucking campus is!" He defends himself.

Evelyn kept a straight face. She does, in fact, know how big the fucking campus is. Which is why she would have reasoned with him if he was five or ten minutes late, but fifteen? She is no idiot. He stopped to do something. Thanks to the number scribbled in blue ink on George's right palm, Evelyn concluded what exactly that something was.

"I hope she was worth it. You have ten minutes of my time." She answered finally.

George's jaw dropped. She had to be fucking kidding him. Is she really timing him? This girl is crazy. What happened to the sweet know-it-all he spoke to over the phone?

"You've got to be fucking me." He voiced his opinions. "What are we supposed to get done in ten minutes?!"

Evelyn bites back her threatening smirk and shrugged at George. He was getting heated and she quickly learned that she loved getting a rise out of him. He is so responsive.

"Well, it's actually, eight now." She spoke in a matter-of-factly tone.

George didn't know why her nonchalant-ness was bothering him, but it was. He knew she could be an asshole, but why kick a man when he's already down? Yeah, he stopped to talk to a friend, and the ogling brunette with a nice ass, but he doesn't deserve this. Right?

"What the fuck, Evelyn! Come on! Stop fucking playing!" George grouses, barking louder than intended.

Evelyn couldn't maintain her composure this time. Yes, she was pushing his buttons, but only because he is wasting her time. He asked for her help and then stopped to flirt with a girl? That is unacceptable.

"I do not fucking play. You asked for my help. My time. I do not entertain people who waste my time! Now yell at me again and I'll have to really beat your ass." She threatened, glaring daggers at George.

The two glared at each other. Inwardly the two fought for dominance. Evelyn had a sense she was winning this who's-ego-is-bigger-than-who's, but George showed no signs of surrender. He was just as stubborn as she is.

The pair glowered at each other for what felt like forever until George realized how childish their argument was. He really needed her help and if kissing Evelyn's ass would help him, then he'd be the best ass kisser in the world.

"You have a nasty ass attitude." George finally grumbles.

"And you have a nasty ass grade in Organic Chemistry, who's worst off?" Evelyn quips as She cracks open the textbook. "Now shut up and read."

George hid the smirk that was threatening his lips as he watched her lip twitch in agitation. He had to admit, her nasty attitude was pretty damn attractive. Not because she had a smart mouth, but because she could back that smart mouth up with actual facts and not just petty comebacks. He likes that a lot.

"Wait, before we start." George leans forward into his seat. "What exactly do you want out of this?"

Evelyn sat back in her seat to think. She never truly thought this part out. Hell, when he showed up fifteen minutes late, she planned on leaving his egotistical ass right there in that seat. She wanted to teach him a lesson, but she realized his need.

George is taking her smart mouth, offering to pay her, and begging for her in front of her classmates, it was too much comedic gold to walk away from. Besides, she genuinely wanted to help this guy with whatever it is.

She catches George's gaze. God, he looked like a lost puppy to her. Again, Evelyn is not the sensitive type, but she does feel remorseful for George. So she sighs.

"Nothing. Nothing at all." She answers honestly.

George frowned in confusion. Surely Evelyn wanted something. Nobody does anything for free. He did offer her money, so maybe she means that she wants nothing else? George didn't know and he needed to find out sooner rather than later.

"Evelyn seriously, what do you want?" George pushes.

Evelyn rolls her eyes and pushes away from the table. She is seriously annoyed with this entire interaction. That and she is also short-tempered. Besides, she has her own homework she could be doing. Instead of sitting here and playing a game of cat and mouse with George.

George panicked as he watched Evelyn stand from her seat. He hastily stood to his feet when he saw that she wasn't stopping. She had turned around to pack her things. For a moment, George stopped to enjoy her backside.

Lord Jesus, George thanks God for athletic girls. Her bottom was small, but he was sure his entire hand could cup it easily.

"I am really sick of you doing that. I'm not like any of these girls to bother with. You better look somewhere else because the next time you stare at me. I'm really--"

"Gonna beat my ass. Yeah, yeah. I know." George mocks Evelyn.

She squints her eyes at George her glare dangerous.

"Have you forgotten that you're talking to a girl?" Evelyn challenged him.

George shrugged and walked, no-strutted right over to Evelyn and stopped inches away from her. He loves that she's so fucking feisty. He loves that she makes him just as feisty and maybe if they weren't so much alike, they would be a blazing couple. Yeah, George liked that idea.

"Have you forgotten that you're talking to a boy, with Spanish roots?" He mocked her again. "Why does it matter if I compliment you? You got at nice ass body, Ev. Deal with it."

Evelyn did what she has been waiting to do since he walked his narcissistic asshole-ass up to her table. She punched him. Square in the jaw. It felt too damn good. She watched as he grimaced. He wasn't expecting that. She had forewarned him on more than one occasion. She is not the one to be fucked with.

"I don't give a flying fuck how bad you're failing this class. Ask someone else to help you." Evelyn picked up her backpack and began storming off. "Son of a bitch." She gritted under her breath.

She ignored the onlookers as they gasped at her actions. Some students looked briefly and continued with their own business. The ones that did stare at Evelyn as - if she had two heads - received a very icy glare that sent their lingering eyes elsewhere. Evelyn was fuming at George's disrespect. She couldn't believe he kept pushing that ignorant philosophy of his.

She is a young woman, not some damn piece of candy to ogle over. She has too much respect for herself. Too fucking much to allow an asshole like George to disrespect her the way he did. She hoped his jaw throbbed for the entirety of this semester. She hopes he is reminded every day that he fucked with the wrong girl.

"Evelyn! Evelyn! Ah, fuck!" George calls after her, rubbing his jaw lightly. "Wait!"

Evelyn hadn't walked fast enough to escape George. She would have ran if it wasn't for her stupid ass backpack. But she would be ready if George approached her incorrectly, again.

She turned around with an eye roll.

"You've got a mean fucking punch, Ev." George pants as he approached her.

Evelyn rolls her eyes, again. In all honesty, she didn't even hit him that hard. He was already too close, so she couldn't swing her arm back like she wanted. Still, Evelyn was glad that he at least felt something.

"Start some bullshit, I'll knock your ass out." Evelyn threatens.

George raises both hands in the air, palms up for surrender. But he couldn't hold them up long enough to stop himself from laughing at Evelyn's pout. She is so unconventionally beautiful and George just couldn't keep a straight face as her lip twitched. She really needs to be complimented everyday, he will happily take a punch to the jaw every time.

"I'm not. I promise I'm not. I'm sorry. But, Evelyn. Please hear me out on this." George proposes, growing serious. "I'm very blunt about everything. You're very pretty, and I had to tell you. I'm sorry if I offended you. Now, will you please help me?"

George apologized in his own fashion and that was honestly the best that Evelyn would get. He hopes she will take it and help him with this class. He honestly believes he'd listen to the Hershey tutor with the mildly pimpled face, short kinky hair, and amazing body. Yeah, he'd do whatever Evelyn tells him to.

Evelyn rolled her eyes. She is really getting tired of this. She has class notes to study and he is taking up her time, again.

"Fine. I'll see you tomorrow." She concludes.

George smiles only to cringe at the motion. Evelyn may have caused him to cut his gum or cheek. He didn't know which, but they both hurt like a mother.

"Wait, what about tonight? Right now? We could--"

"Tomorrow," Evelyn repeats, turning and leaving George to stand in place foolishly.

He wasn't necessarily sulking over her dismissal, he was too busy openly appreciating that little ass of hers. Evelyn would definitely be the death of George.
