A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing
Kirishima had been forced onto the couch for a week at this point and it was driving him mad. He knew Bakugo would be livid, but banning all cuddles and being given the silent treatment just really lit up all of Kirishima's nerves. He told himself he WAS going to confess eventually, Chase didn't need to expose him like that. Word had gotten around the agency and none of his friends talked to him, none of the employees helped him either, not even the interns. Kirishima had been completely stonewalled from all bonding, hangouts, and good missions. He was basically blacklisted from going out, stuck at his desk doing paperwork.
He had gotten sick of it pretty quickly, he couldn't blame anybody but himself for his treatment. He knew better than to expect forgiveness from them, they felt the same things he was feeling in a sense. So, going into his eighth night on the couch, Kirishima looked at the clock. It was around 4 AM, so that meant it would be around 1 PM back where Denki was. He got onto his laptop and typed in Denki's phone number, sending a video call request. He fiddled with his fingers as the ringtone echoed in the dark living room. Kirishima thought he might be busy, and his anxiety flared. But then the ringtone stopped, and Denki's face popped up. He looked to be in a park, on a bench.
Kirishima saw how his long hair was in a low ponytail, a white tank top billowing in the breeze. He could tell Denki had on some eyeliner and he was also wearing a pink leather choker with a metal heart at the center. Kirishima felt his heart beat, just gazing at Denki made him nauseous. He really didn't want to do this, but he knew the sooner he did it the better. Maybe Denki would forgive him by the wedding if he did it now, or maybe Denki wouldn't even care. Kirishima internally slapped himself, of course Denki would care.
"Hey! Ei! You there?! You're spacing on me, man!" Denki's voice echoed around the living room. That beautiful sound was so much better than the ringtone.
"Yeah man! I'm here!" Denki looked off to the corner of his phone and back at the screen with worry.
"Dude, it's probably like 3 AM there! Is something wrong?" Denki's worried tone made the guilt triple in Kirishima's chest. Because, yes, there was something wrong. Kirishima didn't want to do this, he didn't want to risk hurting Denki. Not again.
"Listen, Denki," Kirishima started, "you know I love you right?" he began.
"What?" Denki giggled cutely, "of course I do! We're best friends, Ei!" Denki's cluelessness made Kirishima want to cry.
"Denki, listen," he gulped, "Bakugo and I, well mostly me, we've loved you for a long time," Kirishima held up his hand when he saw Denki about to speak, "this is relevant to the rest of this conversation! So just, bare with me, please?" Denki paused for a bit, but then nodded.
"Alright, Ei, continue," Denki smiled softly. Kirishima wished he was physically there, he wished he could hug Denki while he confessed all this. But, he waited too long and now had to settle for doing this now.
"Denki, before your accident, Bakugo and I were going to ask you to be our third. But then, your accident happened, and Bakugo got really mean. He never meant to, he just acted on emotions he manifested. And I was a coward, instead of reminding him who you were, I allowed him to hurt you. And then when you left, I comforted him for so many nights. We mourned you as if you'd died, because we didn't know if we'd ever see you again. We got over it and officially started dating, we were kinda fuckbuddies for a while. I think we started dating midway into third year, but all of that is irrelevant," Kirishima waved his hand and then wiped his face, heaving a heavy sigh.
"Take your time, Ei," Denki encouraged, which got a cold laugh out of Kirishima. He looked back at the screen with watery eyes.
"I was hurt, but also like really mad at you. Because everyone was so hurt by you leaving, and that's not your fault. We pushed you away, but we didn't know it would hurt so much to not be with you. So, when we saw you on that stage, I watched as Bakugo groveled on his knees again. And it was like high school, and all those emotions came flooding back to me. I posted that video, Denki," Denki's eyes widened before that narrowed and Denki waved his hands.
"Oh, is that it? Eijiro! I don't care! You pushed us into the spotlight, but it all turned out good, right?" Denki smiled at him, but dropped it the moment he saw Kirishima begin to cry.
"Denki, I was also the person who sold the press those pictures. I was the mole for the media, and it was all because I couldn't express my negative emotions properly," Kirishima looked down in shame, "I caused so much drama that Chase and you fought, and had the nerve to be upset when he proposed to you. He knew all this, it's why he tried to keep his distance at the engagement party. I confessed on his bedside thinking he was still in a coma," Kirishima risked a look at Denki, who wore a neutral expression.
"So, you admit to being the cause of not just our fight, but all the drama behind the press?" Kirishima nodded. Denki was silent, which was the telltale sign he was angry. Denki was always a silent angry type of person, if he was truly mad at you he could keep the silent treatment going for weeks, "I'm sorry Kirishima, I need to go," was all he said before he hung up. Kirishima could barely comprehend what he said before more tears ran down his face. Did he burn his bridge with Denki, he didn't know. All he knew was that he finally confessed to Denki what he had done.
A month later, Kirishima began to get integrated back into the group hang outs and hero bonding. Apparently confessing to Denki was the first step to earning back everybody's trust. He was on desk duty when Jiro came into the office with a spring in her step. The office noticed the punk hero smiling, which was rare. When she got to her desk, Ochako popped her head in.
"You seem happy!" she cheered. Jiro nodded and hooked up her phone to the bluetooth plasma TV. All the heroes present watched as Viewtube popped up, with a countdown to STORM's newest music video. It was set to debut in five minutes, leaving the office buzzing to crowd the TV. The countdown finally began and Bakugo had settled next to Kirishima desk, the two having made up after Kirishima told Bakugo he confessed. Suddenly, the video started. An epic guitar rift started and a lightning bolt struck the screen. The lightning bolt formed an 'S' and rest of the letters followed, spelling the band name before the camera was shoved down. They all saw Denki dressed as Little Red Riding hood: white puff sleeve top, black corset, red hood, black booty shorts, and black thigh boots
"Beware, beware, be skeptical
Of their smiles, their smiles of plated gold
Deceit so natural
But a wolf in sheep's clothing is more than a warning!"
A red wolf appeared behind Denki but was swatted away by Pearson, who was dressed as the huntsman. His guitar was an axe, playing into his role as the huntsman. The wolf scampered away, growling.
"Baa baa, black sheep, have you any soul?
No sir, by the way, what the hell are morals?
Jack be nimble, Jack be quick
Jill's a little whore, and her alibis are dirty tricks~" The stage changed and suddenly the bright sunny meadow turned into a dark forest. Chase was the grandma, using knitting needled as drumsticks. Vanessa and Thomas were also hunters, Vanessa's bass painted to look like a bow with a long arrow and Thomas' keyboard disguised as a bush.
"So could you
Tell me how you're sleeping easy
How you're only thinking of yourself
Show me how you justify
Telling all your lies like second nature
Listen, mark my words, one day (one day)
You will pay, you will pay
Karma's gonna come collect your debt~"
The camera pans again, this time Denki is going down the path. He brushing against branches and bushes, seemingly annoyed.
"Aware, aware, you stalk your prey
With criminal mentality
You sink your teeth into the people you depend on
Infecting everyone, you're quite the problem~"
The wolf appears again, Denki rolling his eyes and putting a sassy hand on his hips.
"Fee-fi-fo-fum, you better run and hide
I smell the blood of a petty little coward
Jack be lethal, Jack be slick
Jill will leave you lonely, dying in a filthy ditch!
So could you~"
He seems to tease the wolf, who snarls at the insult and rushes to the bushes. The build up is finished when the camera pans again to see the entire band.
"Tell me how you're sleeping easy
How you're only thinking of yourself
Show me how you justify
Telling all your lies like second nature
Listen, mark my words, one day (one day)
You will pay, you will pay
Karma's gonna come collect your debt~"
The camera pans to Denki, who is about to walk up the path to the grandma's house. He stopped by the rose bushes in front.
"Maybe you'll change
Abandon all your wicked ways
Make amends and start anew again
Maybe you'll see
All the wrongs you did to me
And start all over, start all over again~"
As the lines are being sung, Denki sees the wolf getting into the bed. His face grows annoyed as he kicks in the door.
"Who am I kidding?
Now, let's not get overzealous here!"
He points to the wolf.
"You've always been a huge piece of shit
If I could kill you, I would
But it's frowned upon in all fifty states!"
The wolf growls and gets out of the bed. Denki stays put, side eyeing the door. He smirks and crosses his arms.
"Having said that, burn in hell, yeah!"
It quickly pans to Pearson coming out and attacking the wolf. The fight continues as the next lines are sung.
"Oh, oh, oh
So tell me how you're sleeping easy
How you're only thinking of yourself
Show me how you justify
Telling all your lies like second nature
Listen, mark my words, one day (one day)
You will pay, you will pay
Karma's gonna come collect your debt!"
The fight is over, Pearson is bloodied but unharmed. He takes the skin of the dead wolf, swishing it in front of the camera as it transitions to Chase, still dressed as the grandma, and Denki sitting on a throne with the wolf tapered over it.
"Karma's gonna come collect your debt~" he sings as he cups Chase's face before glaring at the camera, giving a wicked smile.
"Karma's gonna come collect your debt!" He ends the video kissing Chase and the screen fades to black. A lightning bolt strikes the screen, forming an "S" as the name Storm appears as a yellow neon light.
The whole crowd applauds the video, whooping and cheering at the showmanship. Jiro and Tokoyami immediately go into dissecting the meaning of everything. Midoriya and Shinso add their opinions to the pile, and soon enough a majority of heroes are trying to decipher what the music video meant.
But, to Kirishima it was all laid clear.
He was the wolf, that's why the wolf was red. Denki, who was Red Riding Hood, stood up to the wolf for his grandma, who was Chase. And at the end, Denki allowed the wolf to be slayed, and used it as decoration for his throne he shared with Chase.
Denki wrote a song about him, being a lying deceptive wolf. And Kirishima couldn't help but feel like he deserved it.
