Chapter 2 - Cicada's
The fluorescent lights shifted between colour to colour, moving with the music.
I mostly sat at the bar while Abdiel danced. Occasionally a random girl would come up to him standing close and pressing their bodies against his strong, yet slim figure. I smirked as Diel danced with each one of them. But if they tried hitting on them, he would politely decline.
I watched as a blonde girl staggered away depleted.
It had taken a while for Diel to convince me to take the dance floor with him. But after a few margarita's I was game enough to join.
Both Abdiel and I had lived for hundreds of years. No person in the world knew me better than him and I intended to keep it that way. Before I'd met him, I would be forced watched friends grow old and die as I lived eternally. Abdiel was a lot like me in a way. He had to adapt to his new life all alone, without anyone there to teach him.
My thoughts were drowned out by the loud music, my body swaying with the beat as we danced close to each other. His hand went to my waist and I didn't stop him as the two of us felt each other.
The sensation of it wasn't something I hadn't felt before.
Over his shoulder, I could see a man, with long slick brown hair, hazel eyes and an interesting beard. He was quite attractive and wore a steampunk-styled coat along with a top hat. Ladies surrounded him, clinging onto his arms and shoulders seductively.
But he was paying no attention to them. Instead he stared at me. Or was he looking at Abdiel? I couldn't tell, our bodies were pressed so close to each other. I looked away feeling Abdiel sucking on my neck hard. Luckily, I knew a good makeup tutorial online that taught how to cover up hickeys.
The music began to crackle and stopped suddenly. Diel and I snapped out of our trance and looked up at the DJ. But there was no DJ. I'd soon spotted a man passed out behind the booth. There was an echo of upset roars from the crowd.
I chuckled with my friend, thinking the DJ had passed out.
A woman, clearly drunk, stumbled up to the DJ booth, drink in hand and about to kick the man awake before screaming. A slurred ear-splitting sound that made everyone wince. She stumbled backwards falling off the stage.
As she did the DJ slid off his booth and the crowd gasped. His face was set in to one of deadly horror, his eyes open wide and his mouth gaping. A cut decorated his thought like a bloody necklace spilling onto the stage.
The crowd covered their ears again as the air was filled with high pitched buzzing. I looked around but I couldn't see any bugs, maybe it was the speakers or something? No, I had heard this sound before. "Cicada's." I mumbled. The moment I said it the windows shattered.
A shard of glass dug itself into my shoulder. I hissed.
People bolted for the entrance, slipping over due to their excessive intake of alcohol. I looked up at Abdiel. His body was shivering. He was staring at the DJ's body that had been left behind on the stage. His blood had begun to make pool of red. "Diel. Diel." I cupped his face forcing him to look away from the body, and the blood. "Let's go."
I took his stone-cold hand, leading him out through the back door. The stench of blood was washed away by the musty wind of the alleyway. I watched him sit down against the wall of the alley, his fangs had slid out by instinct. "I'm okay." He rubbed his forehead, as the colour flushed back into his face. "Sorry." He looked down guiltily.
"It's fine, none of this is your fault and you're alright." I rub his shoulder trying to comfort him.
"Happy Birthday." He gave a small smile. I grinned back humorously helping him up but then he spotted my shoulder, the piece of glass still sticking out. "You're bleeding!"
"Oh, yeah. It's nothing." He ripped his t-shirt to make a bandage. "Don't-"
"I'm fine." Was all he responded with. "What the hell happened in there?"
"Robbery maybe? Whatever it is let's dash, last thing we need is for the police to know we were here."
With that we both ran to his motorbike, not noticing the man I had seen earlier watching us.
