Part 28: Future
This story takes place quite a few years after the FAYZ.
Alicia Oswald has never been in danger. Unless you count forgetting her homework. It was the beginning of her freshmen year (9th grade) and everyone was anxious, this was the year they would learn about the FAYZ. It had been ten years since the anomaly happened so no one in her grade really remembered what had happened because of them being between the ages of 3 and 6.
The quarter class was dubbed Pass Out due to the number of kids to faint or get hysteric while learning about the gruesome history. Alicia was determined not to be among them, but this year there was going to be a new teacher. Excitement seeped from the children in Alicia sixth period as they waited for their Pass Out teacher to enter and three minutes after the bell, he did. The man looked to be in his early 20's with oceanic blue eyes and had sandy blond hair combed upwards. He was tan and slightly muscular. He had a scar that ran from the beginning of his left cheek and ran down to his chin.
"Hello tiny people, I'm Mr. Leeman and I'm your teacher this year." Mr. Leeman stated calmly.
Some of the girls in Alicia's class giggled and Alicia rolled her eyes. Of course they'd think he's cute she thought. Mr. Leeman paid no attention to the lovesick girls as he wrote on the marker board:
F.A.Y.Z.
"Can anyone tell me what this means?" Leeman asked
A couple of people rose their hands, Alicia included.
"Alright, you uh," he looked down at his roster "oh yes, Miss Oswald."
"Fallout Alley Youth Zone" Alicia answered confidently.
Mr. Leeman nodded. "Correct, Miss Oswald. Class, this quarter we will be learning about the FAYZ and what the children went through. We will be studying about the assorted governments they made, the wars they fought, the everyday life of a citizen, and the powers people got. Now, does anyone know has many kids died in the anomaly?"
No one raised there hands.
Mr. Leeman wrote on the board:
332 kids
136 fatalities
139 survivors
A collection of the students gasped. A survivor rate just over 40%. If you rounded it nicely, about half the kids died while the others returned scarred for life.
Mr. Leeman sat on his desk "I myself am a survivor of the FAYZ."
Alicia's heart panged with sympathy.
"I was 14 when the adults disappeared but beat the blink and lived through all the wars we had, the lack of food, and everything else. More on me later, get out your notebooks and take notes."
The class silently did as the survivor said. Alicia felt a new appreciation towards her teacher and instantly loved the class. After all, it won't be long til a new FAYZ appears. Alicia smiled evilly to herself. The time was coming for -
Alicia woke up in an instant. She looked towards her clock. 2:00 am. She curled up in her blankets and forgot about the bizarre dream.
