VI - When you put your body on mine (Song #2 : In your gentle eyes)
Style : Soft ballad, piano accompaniments
Rain swung his legs back and forth as he lay upside down on the day bed in his and Sky's shared condo, munching on chips, as Sky poured coffee for both of them. "So you are saying that from being a choreographer for an upcoming group, you are now going to teach Khun Phayu? The Khun Phayu? The idol of idols?" Sky asked, sitting down on the recliner in front of Rain. "Yup! I am still not sure how that happened to be honest," Rain said. "And how was he?" Sky asked. "Well, apart from staring at me for like the first 10 minutes in the beginning, he was pretty much a gentleman," Rain said, thinking back. "But you don't think it's weird? Like you were pretty much sure of what role you would get. And suddenly, out of nowhere, this guy pops up. Plus, why was he so damn sure he wanted you on board? I mean, you are an amazing dancer, and there is absolutely no doubt in that. But where did he see you?" Sky asked.
Rain looked down at his bowl of chips and then at Sky. "I have no idea. You think I should be worried?" he asked. Sky leaned back. "Well, this is one of the best jobs that you can get, because it is your dream job. So I would just say that keep your mind and senses open. If you ever feel uncomfortable, we will take it from there. It is not like we are in desperate need of money, right?" Sky said. Rain nodded. Sky was right. Sky and he were childhood friends, born and brought up in a small town just close to Pattaya. While they were not from very rich families, their parents were reasonably well off. Both were only children, and while Rain's parents ran a small beach resort, Sky's parents ran a store nearby, that catered to most stories that came to that area. They had been only too happy to send their sons to the big city to study, knowing that they could only fulfil their dreams out there.
The next couple of weeks went in a blur of training and practices. Rain became extremely comfortable with Phayu, who also went out of his way to make Rain feel that he could trust him. There was no untoward incident either. Around two weeks after they had started working together, Phayu came rushing in one early morning. "Rain!" he shouted, as he lifted the boy and twirled him around. "Phi? Is all okay? You seem super excited," Rain said, as Phayu finally put him down. "The first track of the album is ready! And I want you to be the first to hear it!" Phayu said. Rain looked at Phayu in shock. "Okay Phi," he said finally, not sure what to feel at Phayu's words. Phayu immediately took out his phone and handed one ear pod to Rain.
Rain listened carefully. It was a beautiful song, sort of mix between pop and funk, with a modern twist, featuring groovy basslines, rhythmic guitar strums, and energetic drums. The choreography for this song could be amazing, and Rain knew exactly what he could do. But there was something else that caught his attention. An almost underlying sense of longing, as if the song was written for someone really special, someone who had caught the interest of the man in front of him, a sort of tribute to love at first sight, if that was even possible. And somehow, it created feelings in Rain that he had not expected. Something in him felt terrible that Phayu had someone special in his life, someone he had fallen for on first sight. Rain kept his head down, not quite ready to meet Phayu's eyes.
"It's a great song Phi. I can definitely create some nice dance steps for this song. We can do the kind of mix of funk, add some classic pop moves. The drum beats will really help in that," he said, pulling the ear pod out and handing it to Phayu, still not looking at him. He knew he was rambling, but it couldn't be helped. He was not good at verbally expressing his feelings, mainly because he had been born to older parents who were pretty quiet by nature. The same was true for Sky's parents as well, so it made Sky also an introverted kind of soul. Although they did discuss things with each other and told each other their feelings, sharing with others was impossible. So whatever he was feeling, he needed to keep it inside himself. This job was too important to him.
"Really? You liked it?" Phayu asked. There was something in his voice that made Rain look up at him, and then he just stared. He had never seen this particular look of vulnerability on Phayu's face. Actually, on anyone's face. He was gobsmacked. What the hell had just happened? "Phi?" he asked. "I am serious Rain. Did you really like it?" Phayu asked. "And I am not asking whether is easy to choreograph." "It is a beautiful song Phi. Captures all your emotions wonderfully. Whoever it is written for will know immediately how you fell in love with them at first sight," Rain said, feeling weird even saying this out loud. He hated it. "Really Rain?" Phayu asked again. Rain nodded, wondering what Phayu was thinking.
"Then why didn't you?" Phayu asked. "Huh?" Rain asked, quite confused now. "You said that the person it is written for will understand the feelings in this song are for them," Phayu said. "Hmm? I did," Rain said. "Then why didn't you understand that these are written for you?" Phayu asked. Rain stared at him, flabbergasted. Of all the things he had expected to hear at that moment in time, this definitely hadn't been one of them. He was speechless and had no idea how to react, but he could see that Phayu was waiting for some kind of response from him. "Phi.. I.." he trailed off, absolutely at a loss for words. "Rain, I am not expecting a reply right away. But I can tell you that this song is yours. For you. You are the one I fell in love with, at first sight," Phayu said. "Why?" Rain asked.
"What do you mean? Why?" Phayu asked, surprised. "Phi, you are Phayu. The Phayu! The idol everyone aspires to be, the man everyone loves, the person who can have their choice of whoever they want in the world. So why me?" Rain asked. Phayu was silent for a few minutes. "That is exactly why," he said. Rain looked so cutely confused that Phayu relented. "Rain, whatever you said, it is true. People have placed me on a pedestal. I will be the last person to deny that that is bad thing, but honestly, I am a man like all others. I have flaws, my own likes and dislikes. I have things that irritate me, that make me happy. But no one so far, except for my brother and best friend, ever considered me anything but a human. But you did. You saw beyond everything I was. When we train, I can see the difference. You treat me like you would anyone else. I have worked with several people over the 10 years of my career, but I have never worked with someone who treats me like a normal human being, the way you have done," Phayu said.
Rain looked at him, his vision completely blurred by the tears that threatened to fall. "But the song was about love at first sight Phi. When did you see me dancing?" he asked. "The day you met me? In P'Ryan's office?" Phayu asked. Rain nodded. "Why do you think I asked for you to be my choreographer?" Phayu asked. "I.. I don't know?" Rain said. "Because I saw you dancing. Right here. In this room," Phayu said. Rain looked around the room. "That day..," Rain trailed off and blushed, remembering exactly which song he had been dancing on and exactly how he had been dancing. "Yes, that day," Phayu said, smirking when he saw Rain blush. "Is that why.. you liked me?" Rain asked, stuttering a bit. "Honestly? it was lust at first sight," Phayu said cheekily and Rain's blush intensified as his jaw dropped open in shock!
"But it is not like that anymore. I know you may find it hard to believe me. But how about giving me a chance to prove it?" Phayu asked, looking deep into Rain's eyes. Rain looked back at Phayu's face, searching for anything that would show him that Phayu was joking or lying, but he could only see sincerity reflecting back at him. "You are serious Phi?" he asked. "Absolutely, totally, 100 percent serious," Phayu said. "But Phi, you are an idol. A same-sex relationship..," Rain trailed off, pouting a bit. Phayu didn't laugh, knowing Rain was actually worried, even though he wanted to coo at the sweet pout. "Rain, first and foremost, I don't care. However..," he raised his hand when Rain was about to protest. "However, I understand where you are coming from. It's not like something I am going to announce right away. I want to pursue you, win you over, make you mine. And you have to trust the fact that I won't lie to you. Two, as far as my fans are concerned, I think pretty much everyone knows I am bi. I know they expect to see me with female idols, but it's not like it would shock them. Three, that is the reason I wrote this particular song. Once you are ready, I will release this song and let people know that I love you, and only you," Phayu said.
"Love?" Rain squeaked. "How did you go from lust to love in two weeks Phi?" he asked, his voice higher pitched than usual. Phayu grinned. "My best friend had told me once that when I fall, it will be with that one and only person. And when I find them, I will be a goner. Looks like he was right," Phayu said, grinning as Rain's blush came back. "You always tease me Phi," he whined. "Well, you are so pretty when you blush, how can I not?" Phayu asked. Rain hit him lightly on his arm. "So? Are you ready to give this teasing Phi a chance?" he asked. "I will think about it," Rain said, smirking. "Brat!" Phayu said. Rain leaned forward into Phayu's space, taking his lips close to Phayu's. "You ain't seen nothing yet Phi," he said and then got up and moved away before Phayu could catch him. "Practice first Phi, then my answer," he added, winking, and Phayu ginned in delight. The boy was truly his counterpart, and Phayu was confident enough that Rain would not say no.
Later that night, Sky watched as his best friend stared at his phone with a sappy grin on his face. "Did the phone finally confess to you?" he asked in Rain's ear, grinning when Rain startled. "Mimi!" he said, in a high pitched voice. Sky merely leaned back. "So? What has you so enamoured with your phone?" he asked. "Umm.. promise me you won't laugh?" Rain said. Sky shook his head. "P'Phayu asked me if he could hit on me," Rain said. Sky nodded and turned away. "Sky? Why are you not surprised?" Rain asked. "Because I am not?" Sky said. "And why not?" Rain asked. "Rain, the man literally chose you as his choreographer on the first day of your work. I always wondered how that happened, then I realised that he must have seen you dancing. It was obvious he felt something for you. So.. I am not surprised," Sky said.
Rain looked pensive. "He saw me dancing. Apparently it was lust at first sight. But he likes me because I don't treat him like an idol," he said. "Rain, that's literally the best thing about you baby. You always treat everyone equally. You have never cared about status or class. And that's why you were always a favourite in school and in college. So it's not at all shocking about what he feels for you," Sky said. "Have you said yes to him yet?" Rain shook his head. "Then let's have some fun at his expense," Sky said. "What fun?" Rain asked. "Well, he hasn't met your best friend yet, hasn't he? And I must meet him too. How can you say yes without my seal of approval? Right?" Sky said, his smile devious. Rain shook his head and laughed. He really loved his friend.
Phayu usually came in to the studio between 9 and 9.30 in the morning. Today was no different. In fact, he was raring to go, and Fah and Pai noticed that immediately. "What's gotten into you?" Fah asked, looking suspiciously at his older twin. "Well, Rain might give me an answer today," Phayu said distractedly, and then looked around at the sudden silence. "What?" he asked, bristling, as Pai stopped the car and both of them stared at him. "What did you do Yu?" Pai asked, in his most long suffering tone. "The song that I made you hear yesterday?" Phayu asked. Pai and Fah nodded. "I told Rain I wrote it for him and I want him to give me a chance to pursue him," Phayu said. Pai and Fah looked at each other and then at Phayu. They were silent for so long that Phayu began to fidget. "What?" he asked. "Tell me you are not serious?" Fah asked, looking harried. "I am. Completely serious," Phayu said. "Yu, do know the repercussions of what you want to do?" Pai asked.
"Pai, my fans know I am bi. As far as Rain is concerned, he is it, my only one. Right now, my priority is my music and then convincing him that I deserve a chance. When he agrees to be with me, if he is amenable, I will find a way to announce him as my partner. And with the way BL series and ships are working, plus the ongoing fight for the passing of same-sex marriage laws in our country, I don't see why me having a male partner would be an issue?" Phayu asked, with complete conviction. "You seem to have given this a lot of thought Phi Chaai," Fah said, looking a bit taken aback at Phayu forward thinking. "Which means I must now definitely meet my future brother in-law," he added, just as he opened the door of the practice room and came to a complete halt.
The boy his brother was gaga over, stood near the music system, another boy beside him. Fah looked at Yu and caught him glaring at the newcomer. The reason? This person, whoever he was, had his arms snug around Rain's waist, and Rain's head was on his shoulder. Pai put a hand on Phayu's shoulder hoping to calm him down. He could feel Phayu vibrating, whether it was anger or something else, Pai was not sure. "Rain?" Phayu called out, his voice quivering a bit, but if you didn't know him, you wouldn't be able to hear it. It really seemed Rain heard it though, because he immediately whirled around, his smile lighting up his face. Then he noticed the other people and he waiied. "P'Saifah, P'Prapai," he said. "And who is this Rain?" Fah asked, knowing his brother was in an extremely fragile state. "Oh! This is..," Rain trailed off when Sky put an arm on his. "I will introduce myself baby," he said, enjoying the look on Phayu's face at the endearment that he had always used for Rain. "My name is Sky Somsri. I am Rain's person, his b..," Sky trailed off. "Boyfriend?" Pai asked, tightening his grip on Phayu's shoulder. "Nope, best friend," Sky said, taking pity on Phayu. He burst out laughing at the look of relief on the man's face.
"Rain told me all about you and what you feel for him.So, as a best friend, I wanted to test you. If you are good enough for myfriend, and if you are serious about him. Looks like I need not worry," hesaid. Phayu nodded. "Absolutely not," he said emphatically. "Phi, I hope youknow it's not going to be easy, considering your status as an idol. And I wouldhate to see Rain hurt because of you," Sky said, looking worried. Phayu nodded, understanding very well where Sky was coming from. "He just needs to give me achance. I will never let him down, that is for sure!" Phayu said, looking atRain. "Are you and P'Prapai okay with this P'Saifah?" Rain asked instead. "Wewill be sure to support Phayu, whatever he decides Nong. We trust his judgement,"Fah said. "And honestly? If push comes to shove, we will ensure that therewould be no backlash on you," Pai said. "Actually.. I have spent 10 years inthis industry, so I know nothing is easy. But he is worth it you know?" Phayusaid. Rain stared at Phayu in shock, unable to believe this man!
Beneath the twilight's tender glow,
I found a warmth I'd never know.
A silent whisper, a gentle start,
You planted love within my heart.
The world fell still, the night stood by,
As stars aligned in your soft eyes.
Each word you spoke, each quiet breath,
Became the life I'd cherish best.
In your arms, I found the spring,
Where every note the sparrows sing
Carries a truth that feels so true,
Love bloomed in me because of you.
Your laughter's touch, a velvet breeze,
That danced upon the autumn leaves.
The walls I'd built began to fade,
Replaced by dreams that we had made.
The moments grew, the shadows waned,
Your love became my sweet refrain.
With every glance, with every sigh,
You painted worlds where hope could fly.
In your arms, I found the spring,
Where every note the sparrows sing
Carries a truth that feels so true,
Love bloomed in me because of you.
The seasons pass, the years may turn,
But through it all, my heart still burns.
Forever yours, this vow I'll keep,
In your embrace, I've found my peace.
In your arms, I found the spring,
Where every note the sparrows sing
Carries a truth that feels so true,
Love bloomed in me because of you.
And as the night gives way to light,
I'll hold you close, I'll hold you tight.
For in your gentle, loving eyes,
I see forever, our sunrise.
