IV - Enemies to Lovers (The Trick or Treat version) 6/8

"Boy! You got LAID!!" Sky nearly screeched when Rain walked into the conference room the next morning. Rain looked towards the door, hoping no one had come through with him before glaring at his best friend. "You are an idiot," he hissed. "And how do you know?" "The hickey on your neck baby. What more do you want to know? Plus, you have this extra spring in your step," Sky smirked. Rain shook his head, mentally facepalming. His friend was the worst. But also the best. "Sky," he said. Sky looked at him, alerted at the seriousness in his voice. "What is it?" he asked, worried, and immediately moving towards Rain. "He said he loves me," Rain said. Sky wanted to roll his eyes and be sarcastic, but something on Rain's face held him back. "Does that surprise you or scare you baby?" he asked, running his hands through Rain's hair. "Both. It surprises me because I am not sure if I should believe it or not. It scares me because I don't know whether I deserve him or not," Rain said.

Sky knew exactly where Rain was coming from. He pulled up a chair and sat in front of his best friend. "Rain, I know you have been through the hardest times. But those times are over baby. Now you need to trust yourself, believe in yourself and have faith in Phi. I have been with that family for close to 6 years. He rarely makes mistakes in judgement. He is the heir to that crown, the oldest in the family. He used to be always serious, always stoic, never caring about the feelings of others. And let me tell you, I have never seen Phi the way he is with you. He has never fallen this fast, or this deep. He is so different with you, almost human. Trust me, even the family noticed the change and what you have brought into his life. So never ever let yourself feel lesser than anyone. You are special, and you deserve every happiness that comes your way, okay?" Sky said, wiping the lone tear that slipped out of Rain's eye. Rain nodded, leaning away, as they heard voices coming their way.

"We got all the permits sanctioned," Rain said, as he and Pai walked in, his voice completely exhausted. Porche immediately gestured for water and Pete shifted, so that Rain may slump down next to him. Rain sighed and put his head on Pete's lap. Pai settled in next to his Pa as well. "Ven is not back yet?" he asked, also sounding exhausted. "He said he should be here in another hour. The meeting ran over," Porche said. Pai nodded. Rain melted further into Pete's lap as the older man ran his hand through his hair. Almost three months had gone by since Phayu and Rain had started dating. Phayu had asked Rain to move in. But instead of moving into his own house, he had moved them both back to the estate. He knew how much Rain wanted a family, the love that had been stolen from him all his life. And he had wanted Rain to have that and more. And he knew that was possible only if they lived with everyone. When Phayu had taken that call, Pai had taken the same decision, because he knew that Sky would want to stay as close to Rain as possible. And obviously, Fah had moved back as well, with his lover, wanting to be near his twin. This had made the older men the happiest, having their sons back into the fold, and privately thanking Rain in their hearts.

"Was it hard?" Vegas asked, walking in, kissing his husband on the head, and then Rain. "It was Dada. No one wants to work. P'Pai and I stood in line for so long. Then finally P'Pai had to call the mayor to come out," Rain said, rolling his eyes. "Only because Rain nearly got into a fight," Pai said, sticking his tongue out at the younger man. Rain shrugged. "Fight? Rain?" Kinn asked, having come in with Vegas. "Bunny porcupine only he is. Ven is right," Pai said, laughing. Rain hmphed. "They were annoying me," he said. "What happened?" Vegas asked. "So we were in line, probably on the tenth or eleventh spot. We were there for Anakhot, not as Theerpanayakuls because Rain and Sky insisted. After the counter opened, we thought we will get done pretty quickly. But they kept calling all the numbers, passing over quite a few in between. At first, we didn't say anything, but it became pretty clear that..," "They were calling their own people first," Rain said indignantly, interrupting Pai and sitting up all of sudden, pouting and looking like a bunny. Everyone began to laugh. "So this porcupine marched upto the counter and demanded that we be called next. When the man didn't react, Rain knocked on the counter top and was like 'If you don't call us next, we will call the mayor.' The man clearly didn't believe him. So he goes, 'P'Pai, maybe we should call Khun Vegas and Khun Kinn instead'. And he says this loud and clear. Thankfully, I had called the mayor by then, so things moved faster," Pai laughed shaking his head. "He pulled the family card?" Kinn asked, laughing with his son. "The man at the counter was ready to pee in his pants. He was not sure whether he should stay there or not," Pai said, his laughter continuing to ring in the air. Everyone else laughed along with him, with only Rain sulking and pouting.

"What's so funny?" Phayu's voice asked from the door, as he and Sky walked in and Rain ran to him immediately. "Phiiiii! They are making fun of me!" he said, pouting and lifting his face for a kiss. Phayu obliged, smiling down at his beloved. "And why is that?" he asked. Pai repeated the story. Phayu stopped himself from joining in the mirth, knowing it would upset Rain, but it was a herculean effort. Sky had no such qualms. But looking at Phayu's face, Rain himself began laugh, setting everyone else off again. It was a very happy family that sat down for dinner. "Well, now that the permits are in hand, that means Rain and I will leave for Ratchaburi immediately, with our team," Sky said, and the table went silent. "Is the team ready?" Vegas asked, looking at Phayu and Pai. "Yes. Sky and I handpicked the best. They are ready to go as soon as we are," Rain said. "So when do you leave?" Porche asked. "By the end of the week, hopefully," Sky said. Pai immediately pouted. "My Skyyyy! I will miss you," he whined. Rain rolled his eyes.

"What? Why are you rolling your eyes brat?" Pai demanded. "Well, considering how Sky puts up with you, I am pretty sure he is not going to miss you. He will enjoy his peace," Rain said. "I second that," Porche said. "And I resent that," Pai said. "You all are mean to me," he pouted more and turned away. "I was not going to settle down in the resort we were planning to build, but now that idea seems exceedingly appealing," Sky said, deadpan. "My Skyyyy!" Pai said, sounding horrified, and the whole table was rolling with laughter. Phayu and Rain looked at each other, and their happiness could have lit up the world. Just then, Rain's phone rang. It was an unknown number and Rain picked it without thinking twice, thinking it would be one of the contractors or anyone else.

"Hello, Varain Lee here," he said. He had changed back to his mother's surname for all intents and purposes and had informed even the keepers of the trust, who had told him that the trust was for Varain Lee and not Varain Tangwai anyway. "Wow! You actually changed your name? Does that mean you have no rights to our money?" a voice spoke up. "P'Uea?" Rain's whisper ended all conversations around the table as everyone stared at him. Sky immediately put his hand on Rain's and pulled away his phone and put it on speaker. Rain nodded. "What do you want Phi?" he asked, firming his tone, knowing that anything else would be considered a sign of weakness. "Dad and mom want you to come home and sign the papers transferring the trust to us. To Tonkhao and me," Uea said, his words enraging the entire family. "That's never going to happen. She left it to me, and I am the one who got it to where it stands today. I will never let you all get your hands on her hard-earned money, just to squander it away on Phaw's indiscretions, Mae's drinking, and yours and Tankhao's vices. Don't think I don't know what happens to the money you all already received. You will get nothing from me," Rain said.

"Then don't be surprised at the consequences of your actions," Uea said. 'What? What do you plan to do?" Rain asked belligerently. "We can spread enough and more rumours of how you spread your legs for anyone who wants it. Rain began to laugh. "Oh, really? And what proof do you have?" he asked. "We have pictures of you with several men, in Singapore. And even today you were with another man. Three days back with another, Last month with another. And the number of sugar daddies you have? It's disgusting. We have all the proof," Uea said. "Go ahead. Spread the pictures. Put it on social media. I dare you. And yes, as far as consequences are concerned, I would worry more about what is going to happen to you people with all these lies that you spread. Karma is a bitch P'Uea, and she is going to follow you until you either succumb to her or she ends you. And I really hope it's the former. I really want to see you all on your knees. It will be fun," Rain said, smiling happily before he cut the call. There was silence for one long moment, before everyone started clapping loudly, cheering Rain on. The boy blushed and hid his face behind his hand, missing the hard looks that passed between the four older men, his lover and his future brother in-law.

Phayu and Pai saw Rain and Sky safely off before going back to their family home. The two boys were driving there, as were the crew. It would take just around a two and a half to three hours, even in peak traffic, so they had chosen to drive. Kim had ensured that the best car in the garage would go with them, as well as two of their best trained bodyguards, Nathan and Tyme. "So, what do we know about this Tangwai fellow Uncle Arm?" Pai asked, as he and Phayu settled comfortably into chairs in their conference room. The whole family was there, as a threat to Rain was a threat to all of them. "Niran Tangwai, son of Malai and Sorn Tangwai, cardio-thoracic surgeon at Bangkok Hospital. He is 59 years old. He is married to Pear Tangwai, who is around 57 years old. Theirs was an arranged marriage, so no love lost between them. They have a son Uea, 32 years old, and a daughter, Tonkhao, 21 years old. Rain was the result of Niran's affair with Lee Ju-Gyeong, a nurse, who had come over from Korea to the hospital for some training. Niran refused to acknowledge the child was his, and Ju-Gyeong went back to her hometown when she was 17 weeks pregnant. It was out of sight, out of mind for Niran, until Child Protection Services authorities called him and told him he had a son. Ju-Gyeong probably bought Rain back before she passed away. Niran told them they could put him in some orphanage, and he couldn't care less. But his mother was a very powerful woman in her own right. She threatened him with disownment, and he was forced to bring up the child as his own," Arm gave the information.

"Obviously, his wife was not happy with this outcome, but she had no income of her own, so she was forced to accept the boy as well. As I said, not a love match, and pretty sure Rain's mama was not his first or last affair. But the couple carried on. As a woman, however, she resented that she had to bring up a child of her husband, who did not even look completely like her husband that she could pass him off as hers. The only way to keep him, and not care for him was to not bother about him," Macau said. "If their former nanny is to be believed, his mother used to pinch and hurt Rain, not give him food either, but I think his Yayi got to know, and that was the end of it. Thank God for that old lady," Arm added. "How is there so much gap between their own children? Especially since they hate each other?" Kinn asked, curious, as he read through the file. "Who knows what is happening with these assholes?" Phayu said, and then flinched, looking up at his Dad and Pa. He knew they hated swearing, which is why he and Fah rarely did that, but this had slipped out. But for once, they didn't react, probably the same thing running through their own heads. "His brother also took out a hit on him. But he escaped I guess," Macau said. "How do you know that?" Pete asked, sounding shocked and furious. "He asked some minor thugs, who belong to one of our low level teams. When we asked, they said that another boy helped him escape. We assume that was Sky," Arm said. "All the more reason we get them out of the way," Porche said.

"So what is our next step? Rain needs to be protected. Sky was nearly in tears the other day. And I don't blame him. His best friend has been struggling for years, not just on the home front, but even at Uni," Pai said, looking disgusted, remembering what Sky had told him. "At Uni? What happened at Uni?" Phayu asked. "Rain never told you?" Pai asked. Phayu shook his head, looking agitated. Pai looked torn. He was not sure whether he should tell Phayu what Sky had told him or just keep quiet and ask him to ask Rain. But Sky had not sworn him to secrecy, so it was probably okay? "Well, he has not had the easiest time at Uni. Those two guys, Sig and Por? They would constantly make fun of him and undermine him, despite him being one of the best in the class. Then there was this girl Ple, and her elder brother Som. Som knew he was your direct codeline junior, but he never allowed you guys to meet. The sibling duo really hated on Rain for some reason, and even Sky had no idea why. Once Sky and I met, and Rain left to go to Singapore, Sky distanced himself from them. But when they came to know that Sky knows you, they sort of slithered back into his life, wanting to get closer to you. Sky put up with them because Rain was not here and had no intention of coming back any time soon," Pai said. "But trust me, the moment Rain returned, Sky tried to cut off contact with them. I think he hasn't spoken to them since the Halloween party."

"We need to have a New Year one then," Phayu said, his face thunderous. "No Ven. Wait for a while. Don't do that yet. Rain is finding his footing in the company. Sky is there so that he can ensure the transition happens smoothly. Both the boys are focusing on their own careers. This resort is the biggest project they have taken up so far on their own. I recommend we wait to deal with the people at the Uni. Meanwhile, we take down Rain's family. As of now, that is our priority," Vegas said. "And by take down what do you mean Phi?" Kim asked. "What Vegas means is that we have to find a way to ensure that Rain's family has no access to him and will not dare to approach him ever again," Kinn said. "Let's take care of the mother and sister. You guys take care of the father and brother," Khun said, pointing first towards Pete and Porche and then towards Vegas and Kinn. "What are you planning Khun Nu?" Chay asked, all sweet innocence and charm and shy smiles that hid the real person inside. Chay was the youngest in the family until Venice and Rome had come along. He looked the cutest but was, hands down, one of the most dangerous members of the family.People looked at Kim and thought, 'Holy shit motherfucker.' But it was Chay who smiled and did the clean-up. Taking him along to scare Rain's mother and sister seemed like bad idea, but Khun grinned, knowing he was the best weapon they could unleash on those sadistic assholes. "We get to work right away. Arm,Macau, get us all the information as to where they all are right now," Kinn said. "Also, Por, I want you to take couple of our bodyguards and our legal advisors and get to Rain's grandmother's lawyer right away. Make sure he stays safe and the team check and rechecks that there is no way those people can get a hand on his trust," Pete said. Por nodded and everyone got to work. Phayu and Pai smiled. This was going to be fun!
