Just A Scratch

PROMPT:  By @WattpadVampires   There comes a point in an infinite life when boredom sets in. How does your protagonist deal with it?

"Okay, you're turn."

Gabriel rubbed his hands together, dug in his toes, then raced forward. Near the pen he launched himself into the air, arms stretched out like Superman. The rabid dogs in the pen leapt up, desperate to sink their teeth into the soft flesh so tantalisingly close.

"Damn!" he shouted as one dog's teeth scraped down his buttocks.

Clearing the other side of the pen, he effortlessly rolled through his shoulder and popped up to standing- except he leapt around like the wounded vampire he was.

"Hot damn! That stings!" He twisted around to get a better view of the scrape.

Viola walked up and grabbed hold of his trousers. With a jerk she ripped them off.

"What the-?" Gabriel protested, snatching for the ruined fabric.

"Easier to see... the damage," she smirked and wiggled her eyebrows.

Gabriel hated how Viola was constantly after him. He rejected her time and again because he found her crassness unappealing.

Benjamin whistled. "Got you good, Gabe."

Free of his trousers, Gabriel could easily see the long pink scratch from the dog's teeth.

"How do you feel?" Nancy carefully watched his eyes.

Gabriel poked at the wound. "Like I just got bit by a dog."

A complete lie. He could already feel the rabies burning a path through him. He figured he had about two minutes to escape before he showed the symptoms. If he was going to go out, he knew what he wanted to do with his last few moments.

The furtive glances everyone was casting his way told of the readiness they had to end him. Of the need to end him if it turned out he was susceptible to the infection, no matter how much killing him would hurt them. There was no cure for a rabid vamp.

He was an idiot to have come today. His horoscope said he should stick close to home.

Gabriel gestured towards the cut. "I'll head back and clean this up."

"I'll come with you!" Viola trilled.

"Figures. Can I have my trousers back?"

Viola danced ahead. "Back at the mansion!"

Gabriel waved goodbye and took off after Viola.

She was through the front door and in her room before he caught up to her.

Holding the trousers over her head, she ogled him openly and said, "Now we're alone, why don't you come and get them?"

Gabriel closed the door. It was moments before the infection spread to his brain and he lost himself.

He said, "I've never told you how much I hate you, Viola. I warned you to leave me alone. Now you'll pay."

With that he became rabid and raced forward to end her limitless life before her screaming brought anyone who could intervene.
